We have really struggled to find good takeaway in the Oswestry area for a few years now. This restaurant was one of our favourites but at least in the last year or so there has been quite a big change in the style and quality of the food we where used to getting. At first we thought it was maybe teething problems new chefs ect but sadly things just kept getting slightly worse as time went on. Now no one in the family will eat the food from here it's just not what it used to be by a long mile as I said earlier it's becoming very difficult to find good take-out in Oswestry especially Chinese style takeaway. Staff here are very polite, store is in a very good location and always clean and tidy whenever we have visited.

Ordered a simple egg fried rice and chicken curry, when it arrived and I opened the container I knew instantly something was off because of the smell, the chicken was dark in colour and still have jellied skin on it. It’s really gone down hill in the last few months. I ain’t be coming back. Shame

Food is the best in Oswestry, great service and even gave prawn crackers. 10/10 chow mein and salt and pepper chicken. I would definitely recommend 💯.

Wow! Zero flavour wasted £42 didn't even get salt and pepper chips either which we paid for! Won't ever go back...really bad to be honest!

Not at all nice, some of the dishes either had unpleasant flavours or were bland. it’s unfortunate that the previous people retired. Won’t be back. Don’t waste your money is my advice.

I am so disappointed that New City has changed hands, it used to be so good. Since changing hands I have ordered from there 3 times, 3 different meals and everytime I’ve been disappointed. This is my opinion but not as good as it used to be which is such a shame. Given it a chance but won’t be ordering from there again!

So sad that this has changed. It WAS great. No more. Rude, surly boy at the counter who needs some serious customer service training or remove him, he is affecting your business. Dishes are no longer good either, what has happened, new chef too? I assume new ownership/ management. What a shame, it was the best in Oswestry!

Regrettably, a recent change of ownership appears to have resulted in a distinct decline in the quality of food and surly service at the counter. Maybe things will improve in time…

We have enjoyed the occasional delivery from New City for years, but after uncooked rice, missing part of our order & barely any prawns in our dish we shall not be ordering again! Saddened...

After years of using this establishment, I am sad to say the quality has dropped considerably following a take over . I have an allergy to one of the products used in one of the dishes I have, so previous owners always left it out. I stood and explained this when placing my order, however when I get home open my meal and find 2 big pieces of the problem substance, unfortunately with it even being cooked in there means the whole meal had to be binned. Other times since the takeover meals have been under seasoned and on one occasion chicken undercooked. So sad

We were always very loyal customers to new city, and always very happy with the food and customer service (always so friendly on the phone!) Sadly, they’ve changed hands, and now under the new owners the food has degraded in quality, often with missing items from orders and even very undercooked rice, which is a bit of a health risk. Hoping things improve for a once lovely business.

Update, now changed hands, and the food we just ate was nothing like it was a few months ago with the past owners! So disappointed. Bland chicken chow mein and bbq sauce was terrible, like watery sweet and sour?? Past review: Always friendly, whether we pick up or get delivery, very quick and always before the time they state if anything! Yummy food! Can’t fault them!

Ordered food last yr on a regular basis ordered last night and curry sauce in our chicken and special curry's was like water meat was nicely done thou rice perfect chicken balls and chips

Worst Chinese food. Chicken still raw, soaked in a casing of oil.. Straight in the bin. ZERO STARS.

Delicious food. Always delivered hot within the hour. Can be a bit hard to get through on the phone but keep trying. Would be great if they joined food hub or something like that so you could pay by card.

One of the 4 Chinese take-away's here in Oswestry and got one before I headed back home as it was the closest to where I was. The portion was very good value and my "House special Chow Mein (sauce)" meal was okay but not the best I've had.... Friendly staff and pretty quick service!

give me raw chicken then sent me another and that was also undercooked, waited an hour for terrible food. also my sweet an sour sauce was basically jelly it wouldnt come out the pot. thanks alot👍

Really tasty Chinese, roast duck and pork chow mein is lush. Not greasy and very easy to collect or they deliver. Would recommend.

Wontons were soggy with no filling at all rice was the driest thing on Earth and the 4 prices of chicken we were given had less flavour than water. Don’t even want to talk about salt n chilli chips

Such a shame always liked this Chinese and the staff but I will never go again. Wontons were greasy, burnt parcels with no filling, prawn toast was greasy with a small amount of grey filling. Salt and pepper chicken consisted of 8 rubbery bites, 3rd bites tasted off so binned the rest and I didn’t bother to attempt the noodles. I’ve had food the next day which tasted fresher.

Outstanding food however very poor delivery service. Had deliverys on different days always takes over 2 hours. Tonight was the longest 2 and half hours was not told this when ordering

Consistently very good food. It’s the only place we go for Chinese food in town. Service has always been excellent, both no issues with pick up and delivery. If I had 2 gripes it would be that at busy times the phone is often engaged but repeat tries gets through, and cash only but not really a massive issue. I recommend thoroughly for a decent Chinese takeaway

Food was nice but the price was expensive for what we bought. I understand there was a price increase but the new increased menu should be online to see.

pretty good chinese, I found the chow mein to be a little over sauced/salty but everything else we ate was lovely. Prawn crackers are particularly good good value for money.

Lovely food - best take-away in Oswestry, and the only one I know that does tofu.

After a wait we took our meal home, we tried the won ton and hot and sour soups and thought it was a beef oxowith peas and a fingerbowl, but we persisted and found when we opened the mains that there was little difference between chop suey and chow mein and still little flavour, but at least we had the spice of the house special kung po to look forward too. This turned out to be a particularly bland sweet and sour. Upon ringing New City to get it sorted I was told nothing could be done until the manager who had served us returned, some 40 mins later I rang back to be told it was kung po and it is not meant to be spicy, despite it being listed as hot and spicy and also the manager had said we had the right order. At this point I gave up, but save yourself the disappointment and go elsewhere.

I’m a wagon driver and Travel all over the country and Singapore chow mein is always my goto dish when having Chinese food. It’s up there with one of the best I’ve had full of flavour nice little kick to it. This is my goto place in Oswestry good service fast delivery and never had bad meal yet keep it up.

As a trucker..im all over the country...tried New City some time ago.. Friendly efficient and good food too..ordered again tonight...delivered promptly despite being 4miles away...piping hot on arrival...thank you..

I love the food from here, the noodles and rice are always dry not greasy like many other places. I particularly like the Beef Ho-Fun which is a hidden delight on the menu. The staff are always friendly and the quality has always been good. I collect the food so can’t comment on delivery but in the 13 years I’ve been going here I’ve never been disappointed.

My son was told it would be an hour, he called after an hour and a quarter and was told it was on its way. After waiting over an hour and a half he called again and they pretty much put the phone down on him. It finally arrived after an hour and 40 minutes! Rubbish service in all honesty.

Ordered the crispy chilli beef & on opening it had a huge bit of fluff on it, like it had been dropped on the floor. I tried to ignore but whilst spooning out, it had a long hair intertwined with the beef....I’ve never seen anything so disgusting.

Had a Take away from New City while on holiday in Oswestry,only took 15-20 mins to deliver very quick.The food was excellent,very tasty,very fresh,the meat and chicken cooked to perfection.Best Chinese take away we have had in a long time,thank you very much NEW CITY.

Ordered a delivery...not easy normally as i didnt have a postcode...parked in a layby...checked if they would deliver Yes...be approx 45mins...turned up before time...good portion...tasty... Would give 5stars but you forgot my menus....lol.... Thank you from a happy lorry driver...

Always good friendly service and food is tasty

this little gem of a takeaway seems to always get it right. (for us at least) as my wife and i have a couple of dietary requirements that are usually used in Chinese cooking finding a good takeaway can be a challenge, However these guys take each request in their stride and serve great food. Looking forward to our next one :)

A great value for Monday and a great taste

We started using New City after our regular Takeaway changed hands and the food went down hill. What we like about New City is the food isn't heavy and the vegetables are clearly freshly prepared and full of bite and flavour.
