The chef has now left the building never to return . Popped in for a bite to eat with friends. The restaurant is not run by the pub but the bar lady kindly took our order. Took a while for the meals to come out even though we were the only people in the restaurant. Huge portion of fish and chips and cheese and onion pie and chips. Chips were chunky chips but over cooked. Pie and Fish were fine. OK as far as pub grub goes and reasonably priced.

Attempted this place on Father's day, preordered our food to make it easier and quicker on the day. Upon arrival the lady told us that they were experiencing delays. We waited 45 minutes before starters arrived, then an extra 1 hour before we walked out because the mains hadn't arrived. There was one table of two in when we arrived so it wasn't busy. When we said we wanted to leave because of delays in food, the waitress said she didn't know when food was going to arrive so probably best we left. High expectations met with bad service. The young waitress we had was lovely, but the older waitress (think the owner) was very short with us.

Excellent food and good value for money. However you do feel like your in a scene from The Wrong Turn. The surroundings are also breathtaking with many random old lady hats stapled to the walls and Smirnoff vodka bottles decorated like vases. You can also purchase the vases if you wish which is nice. There is also lovely shiny tin-foil cellotaped to the ceiling in the conservatory. As you dine you can also listen to the landlady (Mein Fuhrer) loudly dictate orders to the other staff whilst she knits or plays solitaire on her laptop.

Ok...so here goes, the food at the Harrows is excellent. Can not fault it. Its hot, fresh, tastey and plentiful. The Staff in the restaurant are also polite, warm and friendly, but thats were it stops, the landlady and decor let it down big time. She is rude without a doubt, she has no courtesy towards other people, and by people I mean, her husband, staff and customers. Its such a shame, because it could be a fantastic place. There are cabinets, filled with tat, but no one will buy it, because a) Its crap, b)its got no prices on and c)no one dare ask the landlady for fear of being shouted at. Is it a bar or a junk shop? The decor is horrid, It looks cheap and nasty. There are hats stuck on the walls in the conservatory...Whats that all about???? The toilets, need some TLC. They are VERY Basic. There is a young man on the bar, most of the time in there. You only ever see the landlady, when she's talking on her computer in the bar or when shes shouting at the customers or staff. Word of advice for the owners.....Stick to doing fantastic food, get rid of the landlady and do the place up.

Had the carvery. Meat was fine. I thought the veg were fine; my wife considered them over done. The plates were snatched away virtually as the last mouthful slid down. One gained the impression that it was a case of getting bums on seats. We normally do a crossword before/after lunch. I don't this would have met with unalloyed joy here. The person (possibly the landlady) was miserable. We were looking for somewhere close at hand to have the occasional meal over the Christmas holiday. We shall look further afield.

My wife and I visited this establishment on a Wednesday November night, amongst a party of people who were celebrating a 70th birthday. The Harrows offers a cavery which normally serves up to 7pm on a weekday. As ours was a pre-booked special party the carvery extended it’s serving hours to accommodate us. Our party was seated in the conservatory which is located to the side and rear of the pub. The conservatory was a little cramped for the size of our party. The bar at the pub provides a range of beers, non-alcoholic drinks, and some wines also. Prices are much as expected. The pub has a friendly atmosphere. The carvery itself comprised 3 meats, being beef, turkey and ham, but only 2 meats could be chosen from that selection. A range of vegetables was provided, along with mash, new and roast potatoes. There were Yorkshire Puddings, stuffing and Gravy available. Meat was well cooked, vegetables and potatoes fresh. Dessert was a choice between chocolate fudge cake and trifle. Coffee was served after dessert. The carvery price per head for our whole party was £9, including dessert and coffee. Altogether The Harrows carvery is reasonable value and similar in quality to others available in the area. The Harrows is conveniently located, quite popular with locals, and there is ample car parking at the rear of the pub.

ok this his a 3rd review which needs to be said. before you judge my opinion on the Harrows read my other 2 reviews regarding this establishment. i have just come home feeling dissapointed after a long spell away from here as the last time the food was bad. i thought it was a one off and stayed away hoping things would improve how in correct was i. firstly Glenn the cheff needs to stay in the kitchen and not serve his mannerism is all wrong. we arrived tonight and was served very low standard food the 3 meats were very dry followed by bland cauliflower cheese and cold carrots the peas were missing they had been replaced by what i can only describe as ukrainian or polish slop!!! stick to whats english that goes with a carvery. i managed to saw my way through the beef which was very chewy and the gamon was like boiled luncheon meat. the turkey which my wife and father had was as dry as ghandis flip flops. we normally have a pint afterwards however we made a sharp exit and went to the Pub up the road for a pint. like i say i have been here maybe 3 times a month over the last few years and stuck up for the harrows regarding malicous reviews however these things need to be adressed. 1 stick with English items ie.carrots peas cabbage DO NOT USE FOREIGN FOOD it looks bad and you will lose custom. 2 keep Glen in the kitchen He his a rusher and his all round manerism is garbage. 3 Craig behind the bar his a top class barman friendly, proffesional.and his manerism is first class he is an assett to your establishment keep hold of him. 4 only put 2 meats on during the day and after 5 put 3 meats on this would eradicate all 3 meats being dried up. and finally i am part polish and part ukranian so i am not being offside regarding the Foreign food. just get it back to how it was please until then me and my £100 a month will be spent elsewhere.

An excellent British carvery! A choice of beef, turkey, ham and you get loads of it! The server will ask if you want more and if you are a big meat eater like me you will love this place. The vegetables are nicely cooked in the British style and you can have as much as you like. The Yorkshire pud and gravy are just perfect. Very friendly owners and staff and the beer is first class. A choice of lager and bitter ale which are served in nice glasses too! All in all, why would you go anywhere else in Greater Manchester! Just love this place. Don't expect the decor of the Ritz but it is still a nice place to eat.

The carvery at The Harrows is lovely...fresh vegetables and melt in the mouth turkey. The carver even asked us if we would like more meat putting on our plate! Cannot fault the food and value for money. The pub/restaurant decor is dated and the conservatory where we sat is not the most inviting of places but the quality of food makes up for this. Most of the staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. We had to queue a little for our food as it was a Sunday and quite busy and an older lady who was re-stocking the vegetables seemed a little miffed that we were all stood in her way (there was nowhere else to stand)...a 'please' and a smile with her abrupt 'excuse me' would have been appreciated. This must be a common occurrence when the restaurant is busy so perhaps the layout needs a re-think so staff can service the vegetable area without customers getting in the way (which was how I was made to feel). Shame about this but just to reiterate, the food was excellent.

Hi all. After looking for a new carvery in Rochdale on Trip Advisor, I decided to go to this pub, simply because of the banter I read. There were some complaints about a miserable landlady and I just had to check her out! Anyway we got there ordered food, and sat down in the restaurant area, which was quiet at the time we went (thankfully, peace and quiet). The food was piping hot, tasty, without too much seasoning. It really did feel like a home cooked roast. The lady serving the food gave generaous portions, and they were polite and professional. No issues here, decent price and I would definitely go again, I would choose this now over my regular place which is always full, like a cattle market. The pub is clean, they have a good selection of beers, wine and the decor is pretty plain. Nothing to complain about here. Oh and the landlady came in last minute and (gasp) smiled and greeted us!!!

Just to clarify, I am not the Landlady, the lady you are referring to is Natalie. I am married to Glen, who is the head chef, and also happens to be the son of Roy, who is married to Natalie....I am however truly sorry to hear of your bad experience at 'The Harrows'. Natalie does appear to come across quite abrupt at times, I can only apolygise for this, as this is just her manor and is not meant to come across offensive in any way.As we have daily bookings, we do prefer to direct our customers to certain tables, as some tables are reserved, but we do have a sign advising this at the door into the restaurant. We do charge a small fee for card payments under £10.00, as it too costs us, to process payments, we do not charge excessive amounts for our carvery and can not afford incur costs on processing fee's. I will address your comments with my in-laws and husband. I do not have a problem, with people adding reviews that are true, but please understand, some people (not referring to you) use trip advisor to sabotage reputations. We are a family business, and stand by my husband and his success.

Being Friday and having an hour off work me and my mate thought it would be nice to go for a carvery. On entering the harrows and the place being empty, you would think we'd be able to sit at a table of your choice? Whist we where choosing a table a lady, I assumed the owner, said you will sit at a table for two. Being shocked at the service I can only describe as abrupt, rude and damn right arrogant therefore creating a unbearable atmosphere. I understand that a corner shop has to charge to use card facilities however a restaurant should not be charging to use these kind of facilities not only does this give The Harrows a name for itself, it also discourages increased sales as people do not want to pay every time there wish to use their card. Having taken our sits and decided to get our food, the staff serving behind the till and the chef servicing food where well manned, maybe the owner should taken notice of these and act in a similar manner. The food was nice, however the beef was a bit chew and overdone for my liking and the mash could have been mashed a bit more to remove any lumps that where remaining. Furthermore just a comment about a post for Caroline (again I assume the owner) people's post are there opinion and you really shouldn't post a positive remove about yourself as this effects you rating. Although following the perception when walking in I wouldn't approach you to complain face to face as your attitude on entering you premises stinks and found you to do very unapproachable.

The staff very very friendly & helpful & so polite. Well now for the food... 3 joints of meat ham turkey & beef. You can have any 2 selections. We opted for the beef & ham. Now I have eaten in many Toby carveries but I have never ever been asked if I want more meat! Well only for an extra charge that is! The harrows is certainly very generous with there meat portions & as much unlimited veg as you like. The roast potatoes & mashed potatoes were excellent, & gravy is the best I have ever had. I can honestly say we will be back again very soon! :-)

Dear Mr N,If you were not satisfied with your meal, why did you not speak to a member of staff? who would of been more than happy to speak with you and address your complaint.. I find it very hard to believe your food was cold....as we do not leave our vegetables standing under the heat lamps. The vegetables are taken into the kitchen after each set of customers and replaced with fresh. Our meat is from a local butchers, and is cooked to perfection(as the majority of the reviews state)...It isn't left to dry up, as we are very busy, and therefore it doesn't get chance to go dry.We are a family run business and take much pride in what we do....We are number 6, out of 94 restaurants in Rochdale, and as you can see all our customers, baring you are more than happy with our food. In all honesty, your review is utter nonsense.Regards,Caroline

I am not the biggest fan of carveries in general however I was pleasantly surprised by this place. I rang mid morning on Sunday and booked a table for later in the day for 6 adults and 1 child the lady was very helpful on the phone and even rang back when I list signal! When we arrived I must admit I thought we had made a mistake as the bar area is very outdated and in need of some attention however we were greeted very a very helpful man who took our drinks order and sorted our slips for the meal. We were then led through to the eating area which was pleasant. The chef came to our table and stated that he was ready to serve us as soon as we were ready which I though was a nice touch. Now the food was brilliant a choice of 3 meats (you can have any 2) which were all cooked perfectly. I was asked how much meat we wanted and then as much fresh veg and potatoes as we wanted. All the food was steaming hot and the vegetables were fresh and hand cut. The mash was lovely and creamy and the stuffing home made. There was a good selection of sauces and then to follow a nice choice of simple deserts - all this for £7.95 (I believe it's £5.00 in the week). The drinks were very reasonably priced and in all 7 of us ate and drank (including 5 pints of lager and 2 or three soft drinks a price) for under £70... Bargain. So in a nut shell... Great home cooked food, lovely friendly staff and low priced drinks - how can you go wrong??

Don't really want too many people going here as the value is superb however needs must. The food is well prepared and the roast potato's and cauliflower cheese are outstanding. I always have the gammon and it is always juicy and succulent. In some places, the roast potato's taste as though they have been kept for too long and have a metalic taste to them. Not here. Service is very good and extremely friendly. Try a pudding with custard if you can manage it after the main course.

I have been many times to this pubs for a carvery the food is always fantastic and the chief's are friendly and always smiling there is a choice of meats and veg is always hot and very tasty it is all fresh and the yorkshire puds are an added bonus, the bar staff are great and the place is clean the only down side for us was the land lady she always made us feel unwelcome when we took our children(that are very well behaved) and banished us to the conservatory that was sometimes cold, and she never smiled just made us feel uncomfortable and seemed to bark at us rather than talk she was like it every visit this is such a shame as all the other staff are so nice and helpful, we got the feeling that she would perfur older people or couples and not really familys!! we will not go again not due to the food just due to this

Have visited this pub twice in past 10days to eat in their carvery. Open 12 Noon to 8pm this establishment boasts a three meat carvery accompanied by fresh, yes fresh vegetables, Yorkshire puddings, real home roasted potatoes and excellent gravy. The quality of the food is far superior to other carveries and so called Sundy lunches offered by competitive restaurants/hotels in the Rochdale area. This has to be the best value around. The management and staff should be justifiably proud of their presentation and exceptional quality. If you havn't visited this little gem you don't know what you are missing.

Just nipped in for a carvery and it was lovely and fresh. The chef came out and said sit down while i bring out fresh vegetables. I live a 5 minute walk from The Sandbrook carvery and i would rather jump in the car and go to the Harrows. I wish we lived nearer as this would definitely be our local. The sandbrook is frozen veg and over grilled food. The harrows all the vegetables, yorkshire puddings and fantastic roast potatoes are fresh and not from the freezer The cauliflower cheese is very nice. Would recommend to anyone to go. Even do small doggie bags of meat for the doggies £1.

We booked a table for a 40th Birthday for 12 people and they seated us in the lovely conservatory. It wasn't explained to us that we had to goto the bar and buy a ticket for our group but I did ask a customer who pointed us where to go. The food is well presented and plenty of meat is offered, the vegetables are fresh and plentiful. The price included dessert (I recommend the Jam Roly poly with Custard). The pub side is a little drab and old looking but the bistro area is spacious and welcoming, I'd go back again and recommend it. :-)

This carvery appears to be fresh food. There are different prices dependent on number of different meats you choose. Never had a bad lunch at The Harrows. They have a conservatory which we have also booked as a private party. Best value and best carvery we know in the area.

I visit this cafe regularly and always have first class service. The staff are friendly and accommodating, the food is freshly prepared and full of flavor. Theres a few toys for the younger kids to keep them occupied while you wait, seating indoors for those colder days and a glorious suntrap with outdoor seating for those hot summer days. The prices are extremely reasonable with various hot and cold drinks. Definitely worth a stop for a drink or bite to eat if you're passing in middleton, just opposite the bus station.

Just got back from having lunch for my mothers' 86th birthday. The staff were so nice and couldn't do enough for you. The food was excellent, freshly prepared and a wide choice available. The cakes were a delight and the choices suited everyone. What a lovely tea room in great surroundings with excellent food and staff. Would definitely recommend.

Brilliantly crafted coffee the way I like it and the staff(especially Michaela) are lovely 😊 not even the big coffee chains grind decaf beans to order… I’ll be back!

Staying with family for the weekend and one suggested Cherry Brekkie…..let’s have it! Very busy small cafe, seating about 35 people and was packed! Lucky to get a table! Cherry breakfast, buttered toast, 2 eggs to your liking, bacon, mushrooms, hash brown, black pudding, white pudding, beans, tomatoes and 2 amazing sausages, complemented by a cup of tea for only £10.75 !! Excellent service, simple menu, and quality food! Normally, you’d expect a cafe of this size and location to be serving Aldi fayre…..not a chance!! Will be back again and again
