The harp is a whimsical legend shrouded in mystery. The fact this location now seizes to exist is the single most devastating news the sleepy town of Bangor has ever encountered.

I can’t believe this place has anything other than poor ratings. The place stunk. The smell was overpowering. We walked in at about 7pm on a Saturday evening, there were only a couple of people in the bar, one of which was asleep; sprawled out on a bench. The pool room was full of surly teenagers, no older than about 15. The beer garden was the only place to get away from the horrendous smell, probably because the gents toilet has no door on it with the urinal in full view of the pub. The decking in the beer garden was falling apart. The only plus point was the bar man who appeared to be trying his best but looked like he’d rather be anywhere else but there. We won’t be going back.

I recently visited the harp for a Sunday lunch, after hearing good things about the place but I wasn’t pleased with the customer service from the bar staff. I had been waiting at the bar for over 10 minutes to pay for my meal with my family and there were still no staff at the bar... I was disgusted at how long it took just to order a drink, food was exceptional but I’m disappointed with the bar staff after hearing good things about the place.

I went to the Harp with my partner and our friend for a carvery, which I must say we all enjoyed. However the welcome we received from one memeber of staff who we have been told is the manager was appaulling. His attitude towards us was disgusting and we all felt targeted by him. Will never be going to The Harp again.

I am a Master student and am not a fan of big crowds, but the Harp has surprising become my friend's and I'd 2/3 time a week hang out because of the fantastic staff, brilliant atmosphere and reasonable priced drinks. Over the Christmas period, the society I am part of had their Christmas meal there. The food was amazing and the Manager on duty made sure we had the private room to ourselves. The set up looked lovely also. Will always recommend, if nothing else, for the fantastic staff

I arrived at the Harp last Sunday for a carvery after hearing good things about the place. To my surprise, I was greeted by a green haired young girl behind the bar. She clearly has no customer service skills whatsoever! She was more interested in her phone than anything else, the young lad however was rushed off his feet. Food was very nice fair play, the only downside was that the stuffing balls were a bit hard. Unfortunately it was quite a task finding a table to sit on due to most of them being occupied by empty plates. Furthermore I went to use the bathroom, and upon my arrival I was greeted by the most offensive smell and sticky floors. cleaning staff obviously have no idea! Based on my experience, I would definitely not be coming back. It’s a shame as the food was fairly priced and the portion was adequate.

Had visited for a drink once before Xmas and found the place to be quite nice. Noticed a fireplace which was a plus. I regretted my return for food. The food was advertised as homemade. I think a microwave meal would have been better. Plates had finger marks on the sides, chips appeared to be frozen, portion sizes were small & generally tasted half-cooked. I went to get another drink whilst I was waiting for food, which had already been too long, only the barman was nowhere to be seen! To my surprise it appeared he was cooking the food too!! After the shoddy service & poor food, we went to another pub down the road, where they at least smiled when taking our money!! The place did have the feel of a traditional pub, so was a shame about the negatives mentioned.

Recommend to us by a neighbouring pub, the 5 of us went here with 3 kids. It was extremely busy and there was limited space to sit. However the staff, even though rushed and under pressure remained calm and did all they could do to keep up with the trade. This pub has lots of area it could improve in, however when you break it down to what they were there for, top marks. Food excellent, staff very polite and enthusiastic to ensure we all enjoyed our food. A few area to improve, the availability of plates and cutlery being the first. Possible working on allocation of seats to ensure larger family's can get seats together and smaller families can take the smaller tables. We had the carvery which we all thought was amazing, my daughter had the nut roast which also was thoroughly enjoyed. Tip would be avoid busy times of possible and be prepared for a little wait if not, as the food really is worth the wait.

Visited with my friend for lunch as we have been here for food before and enjoyed it. I ordered the chilli con carne and paid. I was then told they didn't have any. I then decided to order a panini. Again, I was told there was no paninis and the waitor didn't seem apologetic. This left me with limited choice as the menu is small anyway. I decided on lasagne in the end and was told they were unsure they had this! They did have lasagne left luckily but I then arrived after my friends meal and was covered in a thick layer of cheese with hardly any meat in. Disappointed with the meal and lack of choice available

I had the lamb shank on chive mash and the wife had the hunters chicken special, both of which we would happily recommend! The local ales were great, a small, but varied selection with some beautiful tastes. The pub was clean, freshly painted, warm and very homely. The atmosphere was really nice too, the barman portrayed a very friendly and honest service, we felt like friends rather than just another pound in the pocket which was really refreshing and something most pubs lack nowadays. We didn't get to see the chef, but we'd like to pass on our thanks to him and the young man behind the bar. Overall it was great place to visit and we'd easily recommend it. We called in for a Sunday lunchtime carvery, and the service for drinks at the bar was pleasant and friendly. We asked the gentleman who was carving the meat about the vegetarian option, and he said he would arrange for it to be put in the oven, and would come to our table and let us know when it was ready, which he duly did. He came across as very helpful and pleasant. After the vegetarian option had been heated, he found us at our table and let us know. We then went up for our carvery. The vegetarian option was good, and the meat portion was very generous. There was meant to be a good range of vegetables, but roast potatoes and several other vegetables had run out. He apologised and, whilst we were serving ourselves to the few vegetables which were there, we heard him repeatedly asking another member of staff to ask the kitchen to prepare more vegetables.I'm sure that The Harp Inn would be deserving of five stars when all is well, We'll probably try them again for a Sunday lunch, and will hope that they have cooked all of the vegetables next time.

Both meals came in under £15! We had 3 pints and a half which was £9! Not only were we all impressed with that but it was actually the nicest pint of the night! When the food came I had homemade lasagne and I think homemade garlic bread! Really nice food. And I was even more shocked to see the the chips were also homemade! Have visited this establishment very regularly for the last few months and cant really fault anything! The food is homemade and always good, especially the carvery on a Sunday - excellent value for money. The drinks are very reasonably priced - probably the best in Bangor, and the staff are always polite and more than willing to help. On our last visit the gentleman in the waistcoat (sorry should have asked for your name!) was ever so helpful to one of our party who is a vegan and wanted to know what beer she could drink and what food she could consume. Even I myself know that some companies use fish bladders to filter the lager to make it clear but his knowledge was much appreciated and very helpful - he could also tell us what she could and couldnt eat as all the food is homemade which makes a massive change in Bangor. He made us feel so welcome as most restaurants/pubs make you feel as if youre causing them hassle by having a vegan present and most of them dont have a clue what theyre serving! The other gentleman behind the bar is also very efficient and always has a smile on his face. This place is busy almost every night and for good reason too. Well done to you all!

Back in Bangor for our annual reunion, The Harp once again provided a wonderful backdrop to a fantastic ten days. Our first night, myself and many of my friends were arriving in dribs and drabs from the station to be welcomed by those still in Bangor. James at The Harp had been pre=warned, and knowing our liking for real ale had increased his order (a nice touch, considering we had drunk the Belle Vue out of beer two years ago, despite warning them in advance). The Snug was reserved for us and we had a lovely, jolly evening catching up with old friends away from the frantic pace of the students and locals in the main bar.Sunday we sampled the carvery, which was fantastic. Watching Scotland playing Wales at rugby whilst tucking into good, honest, home cooked food washed down with local beer was a joy. Pay at the bar, take your ticket to the hot plate where the chef gives you the choice of three meats (carved in front of you), with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and a choice of about five other veg (including a delicious combination of cabbage, onion, bacon and creamy sauce). Proper gravy (i.e. not from a packet) and a choice of sauces including horseradish, mint and apple, and you have the makings of a fine meal. The pub itself was full of families taking up most of the tables (we hadn't reserved a table which was a mistake. It gets very busy), and there is a veggie option which none of our group sampled, but judging by the number coming out of the kitchen is obviously just as popular. There's a lot to like about this bar - massive beer garden which isn't much use in February, but is lovely to sit in during the summer. Pool table and darts board in the upper room. It does get very busy on certain nights, and is very popular with students. We visited most nights and Wednesday (Bangor University's Athletics Union club night) was loud and raucous with lots of students toppling around in togas, so although we were happy enough being with friends, had I been visiting with my husband it would have been a signal for us to head off somewhere else. But during the day, especially at the weekend, it's a lovely place to enjoy good company and good beer/wine. It's rare to find a jolly, family orientated pub which also caters for the student population, but the Harp manages it.I don't think I'll be able to wait until next year!

I am a local student, and as such have eaten in most places in Bangor, this is without a doubt one of the best for food and service. I personally have never had a bad meal in there. Would happily recommend to anyone, plus the staff are very friendly which is always a bonus.

Sunday roast was great value £10.20 for 2 courses... As much veg as you'd like, Turkey, beef and lamb... All cooked to perfection, the gravy was delicious and the parsnips are the best we've ever eaten,Well done chef! Bar staff very friendly and polite. Paid £2.45 for small individual wine, same price as in a supermarket. Will be visiting again.

If you want a well cooked, well presented and delicious meal then head for "The Harp". Nice gestures were that we were repeatedly asked if we were all right and needed anything else, even the chef came. The wine was good too and a bargain price of £6 per bottle when purchased with a meal. Indeed the price of the meal was very good at £14.95 for a three course Christmas dinner.I would recommend going late afternoon/ early evening as it is a popular student pub later on and can get noisy, especially with the loud music. Perhaps opting for a table in the small snug would have been a good idea.

The staff are very welcoming and friendly, easy to become a local. Has a great outdoor area which is perfect in the summer, a jukebox, and pool table/ darts area. Would highly reccommend, as there is a great atmosphere.

Absolutely fantastic food. I'm enthusiastic about eating out throughout the North Wales area and am happy to travel for a quality meal. The first time I dropped in for the Sunday Carvery I was very impressed and have now added The Harp Inn to my weekly routine. I recommend it to friends and family and try to drag along as large a group as possible for each visit. I am glad to say that all my friends are also turning into regular customers. I'm happy to recommend The Harp Inn to anyone.

Went to the harp for a meal with my partner and kids after hearing good reviews. It was better than I expected! Food was all homemade, generous portion size and was very reasonably priced. Lovely food! The bar staff were friendly and helpful and even the chef came over for a chat. Have told my friends and family to try there. Going again Sunday to try out the carvery!

I come in here usually once (but sometimes twice) a week and always get excellent and welcoming service,at a cheap price of £2.15 for a John Smiths. It has also recently started to become lively now a lot of people have started using it which is a good thing. They have also now started serving food, which although I am yet to try, I have been told very good things about.Well done!

The Harp in have only just started serving food, however the meal I had exceeded expectations. With competitive prices and locally sourced meat, it definitely beats other competitors like weatherspoons and varsity.come along and enjoy.

Friendly staff, service a bit haphazard but they got there in the end. Hearty meal after a day climbing. It's in the centre of town, worth booking at weekends

A most welcoming local pub with an excellent chef who happily adapted starters into a main for me - veggie! Although menu catered for everyone. Mine hosts were so cheerful & hardworking - many could take a leaf out of their books! The place was absolutely buzzing with people of all ages - locals & holidaymakers having the time of their lives singing along to the live musician of the evening who sang everything from Beatles/John Denver to modern day...talented chap! We will definitely be back - next time we may stay if not during the summer months, perhaps for an Autumn/Spring walking holiday!

Awful experience. We arrived around 2 pm, and we asked what the soup was. We were told it was Parsnip and immediately ordered. The member of staff went to the kitchen to ask something and then came out to say they are no longer serving food. We found this odd given that she had just confirmed the soup with the kitchen, and the cafe is open until 4 pm. Fair enough if we were trying to order at 3.45pm, but this was at 2pm. We ordered coffees and welsh cakes, which took 20 minutes to come (cafe was empty, save for ourselves). The rude member of staff then slammed them on the table, didn't even take the items off the tray, and walked off. Never have I had such an awful customer service experience. Complete letdown to what is a lovely area.
