Had a perfect evening at the Harcourt Arms. Can highly recommend the scotch egg in particular - absolutely delicious. The environment is cosy and welcoming, with woodburners lit - just what we wanted on a chilly evening. We were served by the very knowledgeable Jude, who was friendly and professional, with impeccable server timing. Will definitely be returning again soon - just wish it was within walking distance!

This pub is very nice in a very pretty village. The service and the staff are very attentive and friendly. The menu will please many but i struggled to choose something that i wanted but in the end i opted for the pork chop and chips. The bacon chop was fine but for some odd reason it was placed on my chips so the juices blead onto the chips making them soggy and not very nice. Its just daft doing that. To be fair everyone else was happy with their food. Then we got the bill with a discretionary service charge of 12,5%. So we can ask for this to be removed and create and atmosphere and spoil our afternoon. I never ever return to a place that does this.

We had a very disappointing evening meal at the Harcourt Arms, even though the waiting staff tried to make amends for the experience. The whole place seemed dysfunctional from start to finish, from tardy service to poorly cooked food. We live locally, but wouldn’t eat here again.

Stayed for one night en route . Upgraded to the Blenheim suite ! Wow ….it didn’t disappoint.Everything top notch ! Booked Dinner Food was served in dog friendly dining room . Sadly only four people dining ,so atmosphere a little lacking . I had Rotisserie chicken with juices . Half a roasted chicken ,nothing special at all (£20) Potatoes extra at £5 as not included . No veg …..Nothing at all special I’m afraid.Husband had the Gammon ,again just average but at £18 expected it to be better. A shame really as we had high hopes of a delicious culinary experience…..wasn’t bad but just OK

Stayed here on a business trip, not a typical business stop over location but was struggling to find a hotel. This place was great, top level service from the moment i arrived. Food quality excellent - good value for money. It's slightly off the main track for me personally - based on where I work, however i'll be keeping it on my list to use again.

I could not find anything on the main menu I fancied so I asked what was on the specials board that was advertised as a daily specials menu. There was no specials! ( Monday) I then went and chose the fish & chips but was extremely disappointed! The fish batter was over cooked and minty pea’s “yuk”! Why not just stick to the traditional mushy peas as minty peas do not go with the small pot of curry sauce!

This Hotel does not do a buffet breakfast - fine - but the availability of basic items every morning was really not acceptable. (We stayed 3 days). For example :- no fruit - no hash browns - no yogurt - no brown bread- and one morning when they were clearly very busy only 12 eggs between everyone. The white bread tasted stale on the Monday morning - I had to have mine toasted. Total mismanagement of the person responsible for the ordering of kitchen stock . The breakfast menu only provided two cereals - Granola or porridge. The juice tasted as if it was from concentrate & the Yogurt - if they had any - was only plain. There were no bread rolls / croissants/ pastries available. The coffee was good though and the one morning I had poached eggs they were perfectly cooked. The Hotel was very clean and the staff very nice, polite and attentive. The rooms are cleaned well and provide a hairdryer and tea / coffee facilities. The Aston room - lovely bathroom but let down by no hand held shower hose - just the power down one - you need to take a shower cap if you do not need to wash your hair everyday. Comfortable bed but too hot as a winter filled duvet was on the bed. Bedroom fan was supplied which helped. Internet was of good signal but the TV reception hit and miss early evening. Hotel is in a lovely village but no shop to nip to.

This pub is really nice it's located in a lovely oxfordshire village. The pub must have been recently refurbished and it has been done very well. The food, I had the scotch egg to start, very nice runny egg mmmm. Main course chicken with Jersey royals and asparagus, the chicken was superb nice and juicy. Asparagus yummy and cooked properly very nice. Potatoes a little overcooked but that can be forgiven. The gravy very nice and tasty. All in all in was a lovely meal with god friends. My wife and our friends all had the fish and chips and were all very happy as well.

We stayed at the Harcourt Arms earlier this week and unfortunately there were a number of issues. The fire alarm was triggered at approx 10.30 PM. We understand that faults do occur however we were surprised, as were the fire brigade that there were no staff either on site or alerted. More worryingly there was no out of hours or emergency number listed or communicated anywhere. After having stood out in the cold for an hour we scoured the website and managed to call one of the other hotels in the group. Obviously there wasn’t much they could do but we were in the surreal position of explaining to them what was happening at one of their own assets. The fire brigade struggled to access key areas in the property and this extended their (wasted) visit significantly. We booked the pub on the basis that we’d be eating and dining there. Which I guess is why most people stay at a pub. This is how it’s advertised on Booking.com and was repeated in the welcome email from the ‘Harcourt Team’. It turns out that this was mis-advertised and we wouldn’t have booked had we known that they don’t function on Sunday evenings. The young staff at the pub - especially the young lady were very professional , capable ands accommodating and deserve better. There are clearly problems at a more operational level. They offered us a £50 voucher on checkout but obviously we’re not coming back. We emailed the contact address we were given by staff but obviously haven’t heard back and I’m not holding my breath. All in all - not a great experience.

We enjoyed a remarkable 2 nights at the Harcourt Arms, checking-in on a Sunday evening and leaving Tuesday AM. All staff were very welcoming & engaging. Our room was exceptional (we booked the suite which is highly recommended!) and the Harcourt Arms is very well placed geographically for Oxford, The Cotswolds, Bicester etc. The ladies at breakfast were lovely and the food (both breakfasts & dinner) were of a very good quality. We cannot recommend this 'gem' highly enough and will definitely be returning one day... For those travelling with 4 paws - it's a super warm welcome also!

A warm welcome was really absent on arriving at the Harcourt arms for an overnight stay and dinner on Saturday evening. A 'How was your journey' 'did you find us ok' 'have you had a good day' would've been small touches but would've made a positive difference to our arrival. Even an enthusiastic smile would've been welcoming at the very least. The staff on Saturday evening service in the restaurant seemed to be inexperienced without a senior member of staff in charge, lots of hanging round the bar trying to look busy, but forgetting they had paying customers in. It had a disjointed feel to the service and team. More relaxing seating needed in the bar for after dinner too - this would've made us stay in the bar longer than we did, rather than heading back to your room with our drinks in order to relax somewhere. James at Breakfast on Sunday morning was the friendliest of the weekend and should be a good example for the rest of the team to note. Overall the food was very good and a good choice on the menu too. A beautiful location, but the overall service can be much improved to make for a friendly, relaxing stay.

Dined at the Harcourt arms for the second time is the last few months and was fantastic again. And my waitress Molly was so friendly and helpful I'm really glad she was there again as although the food was great I'm not sure it would have been the same without her helpful suggestions . My crayfish and prawn starter , venison main and creme Catalan ( creme brulé in place of the panacotta which was perfect last time and I didn't think could be beaten ...but it was just as good if not better ) Nice atmosphere, friendly helpful staff , cosy and warm , great food and drinks. ..what's not to like . Better value than a lot of similar classed eateries around the Cotswolds too. Thanks Molly and the Harcourt arms. I will be back 😀

Our first visit and a bit of a “middling” experience really. TBF, if I could, I’d give it 3.5 stars, rather than 3. So, pros and cons - Pros : Parking was easy. The Staff were friendly. The room we stayed in was pleasant enough and quiet (as we’d asked for). It got rather hot during the night, but of course that’s subjective; some people would love it hot. The food was mostly good, I say mostly, as my wife had the steak, which although small, was good, (I nicked a piece). I had the pork schnitzel and although to be fair it was ok, it didn’t really taste of much. The singer they had in was really good, we enjoyed listening to him. The wine was nice, (but see Cons below). Cons: My wife ordered a side dish, but it never appeared and before too long it became pointless to chase it up. We also asked for a dessert menu which never appeared either and unfortunately there wasn’t anyone around to follow up with immediately & by the time there was, we’d lost interest. The wine was nice, but for the price, I should hope so! I’m sorry, but over £11 for a large glass of non-fancy Chardonnay is expensive given the location. Breakfast was included in the price, which was good as if we’d had to pay separately, we’d would have complained. We both got served up a cold large mushroom and a barely cooked & cold tomato, plus a vegan sausage (unasked for;there was also a tiny skinny meat sausage which we had asked for), which was unfortunate given the length of time it took for the meals to appear. All in all, we’d have to ponder as whether to go back again. The room was quite nice & the place has some charm, entertainment good and the staff were friendly. But the issues with the food , (it’s not cheap either!), and the differing levels of service, means it wouldn’t be at the top of our “go to” places.

While the food was really lovely, we felt the service let down the price they were charging. My main course arrived 5 minutes after the 3 others on my table which meant they had to start as already getting cold (plates were not warm). What was more annoying was that no one came to collect our main course plates after we’ve finished or ask about desert. Instead I had to walk into the bar and find a someone who could pay our bill but almost all of the service staff appeared to have left, it was empty, and no one was looking after us. At £30 a main course, we felt this was sub standard and needs to be addressed. To be forgotten felt unacceptable. While food was very good, probably best mackerel I’ve had, we won’t go back as did not feel valued.

Nice decor and location. The pub was quiet for a Sunday. The service was very average and no smiles - for example we complimented the belly pork to be told “that’s nice glad you thought it was ok” - where’s the enthusiasm? In terms of the food- the roast dinners were great (they should be for the price!!), but the burger was stingy and dry, as well as poorly presented. The crumble was really awful - why was the topping in large rock hard chunks and there was hardly any fruit? The icecream on the side was melting before it even arrived - a really small portion all in for £8. Should have sent it back but didn’t want to make a fuss. The sticky toffee was ok. The children’s meals are £10 including icecream which was okay as they were quite big portions but not great for tiny ones on our table who only ate 1/3 of it. All in over £70 for a beer, a coke, a roast, a burger and 2 desserts (and 10% tip). Very disappointed considering it’s “Michelin recommended”

The food was beautifully cooked and delicious so we retired to our comfortable room very happy. Breakfast was also really well cooked - full English for my husband and again the service was friendly and attentive. The cost of our stay definitely represented value for money. Best pub food I’ve ever had! We had such a lovely meal, the food was amazing and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The fish and chips was delicious and I would highly recommend the spicy cauliflower.

Visited this pub a few times and it has seriously gone down hill. Poor quality of food, as well as being stone cold. Before COVID this place was great, and lived up to what they claimed to be... But now they have a new kitchen team it’s a disaster. Management seems to be a disaster and Service was at its worst, at one point we were completely ignored by one of the staff and had to ask several times just to get clean cutlery. Horrible experience, and shan’t ever be returning.

Nice food but the evening was spoiled by an officious, (verging on rude) waitress/manageress and a rather unpleasant table by the staff station adjacent to the open kitchen. Tables have obviously been moved around for social distancing but then the waitress takes the order in old style, bending down, face right up to you. A great show was made about the table retaining their paper menus for Covid security, but the wine lists are shared among the whole restaurant . All minor perhaps, but it didn’t feel very Covid safe, which combined with the table being cold (due to the power of the kitchen extractor?) noisy and in the middle of the staff bickering was a shame as the food was good. A different table and different waitress and this would have been a different review!

I very rarely leave a review and I am usually underwhelmed when heading out to a pub for Sunday lunch. I thought it only fair to congratulate the team at the Harcourt Arms for serving our party of four with a high quality roast (two of us had Sirloin and two had Pork). Really good range of vegetables, including properly crispy roast potatoes, and the meat was very tasty. The desserts were also really good. Only small gripe was that the antique table we sat at was a bit wobbly and not easy for two of us to put our legs under. Will definitely be back...

I brought my parents for a night and had family arriving in the evening as a surprise. The staff were so brilliant at keeping the surprise as assisting me. Every single staff member we came into contact with were so professional and amazing. They are so thoughtful and make you feel as if you are taking to friends. Food was to a very high standard. Rooms were so cosy and very clean. We cannot wait to return!Thank you to Beth and to the blonde lady who served us (so sorry i didn't catch your name!), to the very young gentleman who served us drinks and to the South African barman. Well done to management and owners for firstly having such lovely professional staff and an absolute gem of a property.Thank you

We come here often but I felt compelled to write a review after our last supper here as it was so wonderful to see hogget on the menu, and - no surprise - it was cooked perfectly. The food is always excellent and we’re incredibly lucky to have this pub on our doorstep. The wine list is well thought through too, and this time we had a delicious and well priced bottle of Lebanese red - we’ll be back again very soon.

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! We’re staying one night here in the middle of a 100 mile walk along the Thames path. We got here on a Sunday afternoon and not realising that the food service stopped at 4pm, we went down to order at 4.30pm. They assured us that as we were guests staying the night and had not had a meal all day, they would whip something up for us. They served us 2 incredible roasts (best roast I’ve ever had) and also gave me some ice to put on my strained knee. The shop was about to close and when we informed staff we would be heading off walking at 7.30am they gave us some croissants and a muffin (for free!) that were left from the day for us to have for breakfast. The hotel room we are in is beautifully decorated with lovely toiletries and a very comfy bed. The room has a coffee machine & pods - a lovely touch. They gave us more coffee pods on request too. The village is beautiful and only 3km off the Thames path - the perfect stop before Oxford. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely come back. I’ve never known service like it - we feel like royalty. Thank you to all the staff for making us feel so special after a weary couple of days of walking!

Probably the best food in Oxfordshire, have meant to review pub ages ago, when it first opened last year.Retuned again last week, well executed dishes, some pub standards, others that are both imaginative and well constructed.Again a well thought out wine list which offers some great wines at reasonable prices.Did not see the man in the leather sommeliers apron this time, but have now bought my own.Great building conversion , all apart from the very institutional residential block, which makes it look like a care home, otherwise superb.

This was our second visit to The Harcourt Arms, having visited in February, not long before lockdown., when we’d vowed to be back. Now that we can get out and about again, THA was our first choice, and it did not disappoint in any way. They have done everything to make the hotel Covid safe, including a pop up outside bar. Thankfully Friday was sunny and warm, and we enjoyed a delicious glass - or two - of Sauvignon blanc on the terrace in the sun with the papers to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Our room was gorgeous, the food as delicious as we remembered, although a limited menu right now, and the staff helpful and friendly. Thank you to Olivier, Ellie and the team for all that you do.

The Harcourt Arms (for those who are yet to visit) is an authentic twist on traditional country with classy modern newness. The food is delectable, presented creatively, beautifully seasoned and of a great quality, sourced locally. The fish and chips was a true favourite, along with the roast being second to none! The room was spacious, clean, modern and again reflected quality in every corner. Our room was truly unique with stunning decor echoing throughout the space boasting a very tranquil and peaceful atmosphere which was exactly what we needed after 2020 being the year its been! The farm shop selling organic fresh produce and homemade items was very handy! (Also open you the public). The system in place to manage the effects of covid was very smooth too, we felt in very safe hands. The owner made a big effort to make us feel very welcome and made an effort to introduce himself and the whole team couldn’t have done enough for us! Couldn’t recommend enough, can’t wait to go back! Thanks so much for Harcourt Arms! A real pleasure.

I visited the Harcourt Arms at the beginning of February this year for a friend's 40th. I was lucky enough to be able to stay in one of the rooms onsite (which was helpful at the end of the evening!) and had a wonderful time. The food was incredible, staff helpful and hilarious, rooms were stunning and the bar/restaurant relaxing and comfortable. I would thoroughly recommend this place and look forward to visiting again soon!

Having celebrated my 30th and our wedding party some years ago at The Harcourt Arms I was interested to see all the changes and wasn't disappointed. Enjoyed a lovely meal for my Dad's birthday & as a surprise booked for my parents to stay over. Food very nice although some dishes were very rich would next time ask for any gravy/sauce to be served on the side. Kids loved their burger and fish & chips and also thought the soda bread to start was delicious!! Drinks and service good.My parents loved their room which had everything needed and a huge bathroom. They said the breakfast offered a good choice and were particularly impressed with the quality of the food apparently the muffins were to die for. Will return soon.

Extremely disappointing meal Starter of figs — expected fresh not dried- and then only 3 Gnocchi - limited amount and minimal flavour Price far too much for meagre portions Friends similarly disappointed with their main courses and a dessert order of 2 different scoops of ice cream, came with 2 of same flavour! Not asked about the meal at anytime during the evening Would not recommend

We went here to get a little desert as we have been to this cafe before and saw it had quite a good range of gluten free options. They didn’t have much left in stock so we were lucky to get what we got.The gluten free cookies were delicious, tasted really fresh and like they were homemade. Also the cake was really lovely too and tasty. They clearly list the allergens of the product on the screen protector thing behind the cakes. Also tell them about any allergies when ordering.I believe their menu is 100% vegan too.The toilets were really clean too.

This is a lovely pub, just as a local should be. The owner is very experienced in the hospitality industry and it shows. The welcome is warm and the Hook Norton beers are well kept. Where they knock the ball out of the park is the food. Fabulous home made generously portioned dishes. Just go, it’s a gem of a place.
