No great choice food was bland and unappealing nothing more than a greasy spoon there is no WC facilities on asking , however if I wanted to take a 5 minute walk there was a public facility , the olny plus was the server was pleasant , not an experience I'd care to repeat again its a sit in chippy nothing more My advice go up the road to a real chippy and Spend a quarter of the price for taking away the same food

After being told Girvan is the best place to try fish and chips I thought I would give it a try. Staff were friendly enough and the portion was massive. The fish tasted fresh enough but oh my goodness the grease was dripping off everything. On that basis I definitely won’t be back and it really spoiled the quality of the fish.

Always a tasty chip shop, despite some of the bad reviews, I can honestly say its class. So many chip shops dont use local butcher produce but this guy does and it makes a massive difference from generic, pale and tasteless cheap pork sausages that seem to be deemed acceptable. I'm not a fish eater but theres plenty of choice to be had and my chips are always great.

Sad to write this review.Service was efficient but the food was awful. The chips had the particulate remains of their predecessors sticking to them and tasted as if they had been fried in fat which had been used countless times. We ended up here as there is generally nothing in Girvan, dispute the great scenery all around its quite a deprived looking little place. I haven't seen this sort of cafe since I was a kid at our local market. But we found although it looks cheap and cheerful the menus is a couple of pounds too much for each item in this kind of cafe. The staff were friendly though and it didn't take long for our food to come out. And what was served was all eaten.

Going on the positive reviews I popped in for a fish supper with high expectations, however I found the whole experience very underwhelming for a number of reasons. As a previous reviewer mentioned, there is no mention of the fish type on offer just a generic "fish" which is kind of strange as in other Scottish fish and chip shops the type of fish is always highlighted and in most there is actually a choice of fish. The fish I ended up with was very wet in texture with absolutely no taste surrounded by a tasteless better. The chips were fine but the condiments on offer were generic red and brown sauce, salt and vinegar substitute which tasted of nothing! Surely at the prices charged for the fish a real malt vinegar would make an appearance. On the positive side the service was quick and friendly and the tea was hot and tasty.Maybe I was just unlucky? Certainly improvements need to be made in my opinion.

We needed food and fast - but we didn't want to be attacked by seagulls (having watched four burly bikers get fish and chips to take away, then spend their entire time fending off the enormous swooping thieves...). The Harbour Cafe was GREAT! It was super clean; they found a table for six of us - plus the dog; the waitress was really friendly and the food was fantastic. The fish and chip portions were huge, and really well cooked. We had arrived late but they locked up the shop and made it very clear that we were to take our time to enjoy the meal. All the staff were very kind to the children and genuinely friendly - I really can't rate this place highly enough!

Before going on a day trip to Girvan I decided to check out Trip Advisor for a place to eat. The Harbour Cafe sounded a safe bet going by all the good reviews to be found on the site. I must say the contributors are spot-on when they recommend this cafe; it's spotlessly clean with very pleasant waitresses who give great service & last (but not least)...... they do a great fish tea. My wife went for the special fish while I opted for the battered variety & both were perfect, no bones to be found, not greasy & great chip shop chips to round it off. Graziano's next door is the takeaway part of the Harbour Cafe ( though it's rated higher on here) We both had fish & chips with mushy peas, and, while the fish was fresh & the batter crispy, the chips had definitely seen better days. Chips which came out to people who had ordered after we had looked much better, in fact I heard the fellow at the next table say it was the best sausage supper he'd ever had. It's also worth noting that the Harbour Cafe has no toilet, and a notice on the door directs you to the public toilets at the harbour. What it might be useful to know is that you'll need 30p to get in, or else pop into the Harbour Bar next door, whose toilets are accessible to the public.

My 3 yr old grandson was desperate to go to the toilet and we stopped off looking for kindness and my daughter in law asked if he could use the toilet but was refused even tho he was clutching the front of his trousers, the place was empty and they were promptly directed to the public toilets over the way in strong winds and rain!So they had to walk but they couldn't find the toilets but thankfully a bus driver gave them directions. I hope that woman is very proud of herself! 3 yrs old he is, outrageous, how unkind! Stopped here in July of 2014 on route to Portpatrick to get a bite to eat. As my partner and i were on a tight timeline, i suggested that she get carry out fish and chips from Grazianos which i believe is part of the Harbour Cafe. As i was ravenously hungry i suggested to my partner that she get two portions of fish and chips. She returned to the car minutes later with one portion. I realised why as the portion size was enormous ! The fish was delicious and the chips, whilst slight greasy, appeared to have just been cooked. I'm not a great fan of chips and only ate a couple but it has to be said but these were ok. Having consumed our fill and still having food left ( too much even for two to eat) we made our onward journey to Portpatrick satiated and happy. I would have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone.

My wife and me went in and ordered 2 fish Teas. So far so good. The girl who took our order was really nice, very friendly. The food arrived and it was really nice. I teach food hygiene so I'm always on the lookout for good/bad practice. One of the girls had a wee pick at her nose, followed this up by wiping her hands on her clothes. She then picked up a wet cloth and began wiping at surfaces. One of the main vehicles in Food Poisoning. She then took some chewing gum and put it in her mouth, again her hand was at her mouth. To top it all off she applied some lip gloss, putting the container onto a chopping board. At this point I was going to discuss Staphylococcus Aureus with her but decided on an early exit. Behind the counter was a Bacterial utopia. Crumbs all over the work surfaces, cloths lying around and egg boxes lying out on a day where the temperature was in the 60's. Someone should have a word with this young person. Good food ruined by terrible food hygiene practices

Just a quick review from a road trip a friend and I took recently. The Harbour Cafe is tucked away next to the harbour, where the tours leave for Ailsa Craig. I had the large (2 fish) option which was plenty (and then some) with a pot of tea, bread and butter. Whilst I had been advised by the friendly staff that this was very much a hungry portion size, I wasn't expecting the quality, simply superb! My friend and I both had Fish Teas so I can't comment on the rest of the menu. But who cares! GoFor the Fish Tea!Great location overlooking the bay, clean restaurants and very friendly service, there's even a take away if you don't fancy sitting in. Ideal for your pre/post meal from your visit to Ailsa Craig

A really nice cafe where you can get a decent fish, pie, sausage or chicken supper from friendly, helpful staff at reasonable costs. Recommended, especially after a visit to the seaside.

£6 for probably the worst fish and chips I've ever had.The fish was full of bones and swimming in oil, whilst the chips were pale and equally swimming in oil. Managed 2 bites before my stomach gave up. Avoid.

After a 3hr trip to Ailsa Craig this cafe was a godsend. It is what it is and the food was tasty, the portions very generous, the staff friendly, service quick and the atmosphere great - full of real people. No toilets, however public ones are nearby. Not many cafes would accept nine dripping wet folk with s smile!

When visiting Girvan and looking forward to some Fish And chips we were diss appointed. I don't no what fish it was certainly was not haddock or whiting. The fish was paper thin and covered in greasy batter we had to throw them in the bin. Went to the supermarket for sandwiches . Will not buy from them again

Lovely light and crunchy batter and succulent juicy fish. Served with some chunky chippy chips which are a fine example of what chips should be: tasty, with a bit of bite on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. A quarter lemon to squeeze over and a healthy portion of mushy peas along with 2 Ali es of buttered bread.A classic done justice. If I'd been around a while longer I'd have been tempted to try their sweet chilli haggis but I was only I. Town for the day. What denied this place a 5 out of 5 was the cleanliness of the cutlery and tea pot. I had to pick dried stuff off bith a fork and the tea pot.Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to go back because the grub was top notch... Might even have my supper on the beach... It IS only 1 mins walk away.

The sandwich was simple but nice enough. Tasty cheese and ham. The macaroni was awful. Cold sludge made from cheap ingredients. Possibly the worst I've had. The place itself is fine but they really need to review their catering. It could be so much better

Usually eat here and never had an issue. Today we called and waiting 15 minutes and not served. Approached the counter and older lady said it was table service and take a seat. (We knew this but had waited). Sat back down and waited nearly another 15 minutes and nobody took our order. We were walked past several times by staff and ignored. Left and went elsewhere. Really disappointed at being made to feel so embarrassed after others noticed clearly and those arriving after us were served. Will sadly not return as left to feel like we were deliberately being ignored. Completely embarrassing experience.

We live between Deeside and Dorset and rarely in Ayrshire but down for wedding and decided to go to Scott’s as knew the owners through business over 20 years ago when they just had a couple of places & heard a lot about their massive success . Honestly , we couldn’t fault it and … we eat out a lot . From a genuinely lovely welcome from Beth to excellent service from all the staff ( Isabelle was particularly charming & efficient ) - wonderful choice of menu , terrific cuisine and good value for money …. With a charming view . Some people look to find fault wherever they go but , we genuinely found Scott’s faultless ( inc toilets , decor etc etc ) . Absolutely SUPERB - 10/10- well be back and Soon 🥂

What a wonderful shop and cafe the hub of the local community. The manger Alex and Young worker Becca are fabulous such excellent customer service. I'm currently walking the entire UK coast path solo for the RNLI with my Big agnes tent Aggie since July 4th over 7,600 walked and I am staying at a campsite nearby yo rest a sore ankle. Wow I arrived and was treated like a local welcomed in offered coffee and cake. The atmosphere was heartwarming everyone happy picking up provisions hot food or stopping by for a chat. A lost dog was found and kept amd cuddled by a staff member till the happy owner arrived to claim his doggy ❤️ fully recommend this wonderful place. Thank yoy manager Alex 5 star .
