I’ve been here on a date for food and drinks. The staff were really friendly and helpful. There is outside seating on a sunny day which we enjoyed. The food was really good and fairly priced. The drinks were very strong (we had a few different cocktails) but still very tasty, and very fairly priced. It is a super cosy vibe which was great for a date style atmosphere, they also had 90s indie type music playing which I really enjoyed. I would definitely go back here and highly recommend.

The place STINKS of wet dog. So strong I worried my clothes would smell of it. Menu sounds lovely but we couldn’t stay and eat here, I couldn’t enjoy my food with that smell and I’d worry about the hygiene of the kitchen. People had warned us about the smell before we went, but we didn’t think it could be that bad so thought we’d try it. We left and went elsewhere sadly.

I always like to try anything new on the menu. This time I tried the vegan tofu with coriander & Pak choi. I didn't really enjoy it although it was well prepared. It just didn't work as a dish - only reason I give it a 3 star on this occasion. I wouldn't order this dish again However all the other foods were great, and atmosphere is fab.

Fantastic food and good service. Only annoyance was that we asked if we’d ordered too much and were told it was fine. It was way too much (we are all fairly big eaters). The portions are generous so order cautiously and add more as you go, if required. Peanut and chilli dip is back to its tasty OG recipe. Delicious.

I used to be a semi-regular when I worked on Ashton Lane 2012 - 2016, however our visit this evening was utterly disappointing. When we walked in, no one was there. No staff. No customers. Then we were hit with the strong smell of dog, which we were later advised by the 1 staff member when did he arrive was the fish sauce. If your fish sauce smells like dog, you shouldn't be using it! We considered leaving at this point. We had in fact just been offered to order drinks when we raised the issue with the smell, and the staff member proceeded to leave before taking our drinks order after our criticism. We went on to order 1 bowl of chicken pho and one of bike shop tofu and mushroom pho, both level 4 spice. We then witnessed the 1 same staff member assemble it behind the serving counter. I've never known an establishment to ask it's servers to act as chef as well. We both found our dishes bland, and the chicken in particular tasted old, as though it was being reused and reheated, and did mention we were unhappy to the 1 staff member, who to his credit did ask if we wanted anything else, but at this point we just wanted out of there. After swallowing what we could, we asked for the bill as soon as we could. A 2nd staff member has appeared to take our payment. She seemed polite enough. I couldn't quite believe the price for the quality of meal we had however. £42 for 2 bowls of sub par pho with 1 extra and 2 drinks?! The quality does not match the price. Do not waste your time, money or calories here. A shadow of its former self.

Our family visited the Hanoi Bike Shop again yesterday after a few years' absence. The three of us were seated downstairs. In short, we had a wonderful dining experience. However, there are a few things that could be improved. I'm not sure if it was just a one-off, but it seemed like there was a staff shortage. The server had to juggle greeting new guests, seating them, and serving the tables. Years ago, the steak we had here left a lasting impression on us. With that in mind, we ordered two portions of medium-rare steak. Despite being one of the most expensive items on the menu, it was the weakest dish on the table. It was tough and overcooked, closer to medium-well than medium-rare. I think it was rump steak. Although the sauce improved the flavor a bit, we weren't very happy with it. On the other hand, the fish cakes and the chicken and mushroom dish were excellent. Finally, and I don't think it was intentional, we ordered prawn crackers, but they never arrived. We didn't remind them, but they were added to the bill. It was a small thing, but it was corrected immediately when we pointed it out. The staff weren't the most cheerful, but I understand the stress that staff shortages can create, and I attribute it to that. All in all, we had a very enjoyable family meal. Considering the price-performance ratio, I think it was a success. 4/5 stars.

Was there with my family last night. Hadn’t been for a decade but won’t be back. The first thing that hit me was the overwhelming stench of fish sauce upon entering the restaurant. My wife had the mushroom grill dish which was one mushroom cut into four slices and an enormous chunk of kimchi- should have been a starter and wasn’t worth £17. My daughter had the pork belly and it was also tiny. My son and myself had the design your own pho, it was tasteless and neither of us could bring ourselves to finish it. Don’t come here if you have ever been to SE Asia as you will be disappointed with the quality, portion size and value for money. We won’t be back, should have gone to Ka Pau.

Food was good - not blown away but will say the pork cheek was very nice. We opted for the banquet as we aren't top picky, we got 2 starters, 2 mains and a side dish between us for £60. Wouldn't quite call it value for money looking at what we got but it was enough food. Guy at the table next to us got Pho and it looked really nice. We were in on 2nd Jan and service was a bit slow but looked like they only had 2 staff on. Cool place inside but small so make sure you book. Music was in point that day - early 2000s punk rock/emo 😆

Disappointed after a much anticipated trip to Hanoi Bike shop. We had previously heard good things but don't think this place lives up to the hype unfortunately. We had one tattered paper menu between 3 people and waited over 40 minutes for our Pho dishes while the table next to us, who entered after us, were served quickly. The food was good but bland, lacking the zest and flare a good Vietnamese should have. For these prices we expected much better things. Sadly, an underwhelming experience.

Dined outside here years ago and it’s definitely gone downhill. Also the smell of feet which hits you at the front door is horrendous. We were asked upon arrival if we had any dietary requirements and we asked for a gluten free menu. Server said no problem and brought us to our table. 10 minutes later we were greeted by a different server who asked us what we wanted and we said we were still waiting on the gf menu. He said no problem and disappeared then continued to serve other tables at which point we had to chase him up and remind him we needed the gf menu. He said he’d forgotten. When he finally brought it we asked how to interpret it as it was a little confusing and he admitted he didn’t know for sure and disappeared again to check with a colleague. This was understandably not great. on the surface the place looks well curated, but the upstairs bathroom was pretty filthy, and I cut my hand on the flusher for the downstairs bathroom. There’s rustic, then there’s a real lack of care. Considering the service and odour - which I’m told is a special fish sauce but smelled horrible, and I say that as someone who likes fish sauce - the place is definitely overpriced. The temple tofu was very good, as were the chicken thighs, but other items like the potato cakes weren’t worth the price point. My partner and I have been together for a while and had a laugh regardless but I feel bad for anyone going here looking for a romantic evening.

I went to the Hanoi Bike Shop for the first time in a couple of years and was very disappointed. I remembered it as a great eatery with good quality food for good prices, but it seems like things have changed quite a lot recently. After 30 minutes of waiting and multiple staff telling us they’re were looking for the allergen menu they were finally able to bring it to us. Apparently there’s only one allergen menu for the entire restaurant. I ordered pork belly and potato fritters for a total of £27 (18 for the pork belly and 9 for the potatoes). As you can see from the pictures the cost vs the amount of food I received don’t really seem to match. While the pork belly was absolutely amazing, it’s simply not enough to feed an adult. The fact it came with two vegetables didn’t do much to satiate me either. There were 5 (five!!!!) potato fritters!! For £9?! I wouldn’t even have minded if they had tasted good, but they ended up being incredibly bland. They didn’t even taste of potatoes… I have no idea how you can make something like potato fritters not taste like anything 😭 What happened to this place? When I got home I was still so hungry I ended up making myself a sandwich.

Attended with a party of 3, and I have to say I had one of the best dining experiences that I have had in a very long time. Gorgeous tasting Pho, made with clearly fresh and high-quality ingredients, at a very reasonable price. The cocktails were lovely too. I ordered a coconut espresso martini, which was the best espresso martini that I have had before. The wait staff were lovely and very accommodating to common allergies, and can provide an allergy matrix ahead of time to your visit to make sure that you are ordering the correct dishes. Excellent work, and it is a very short walk from the subway, so I will be 100 percent making the effort to come back in the future. Well worth the trip into Glasgow.

Visited recently after walking past a few times and thought it looked nice! We were seated at an outside table with stool chairs and no back support, I had a plant right against me the whole time which was a bit distracting. I did notice there is a very strong smell but I understand it’s due to the fish sauce. The glasses were dirty and had lipstick around them, as well as the small side bowls which I wiped clean. We ordered Pho which was nice enough, light and refreshing! The portion sizes are giant also :) However their spice levels are not accurate at all- their “level 5” is barely even medium. As a positive the staff were very friendly and attentive.

I went alone on a Thursday evening, the place was busy with lots of people sitting outside and inside. When i went in the waitress was rushed but took the time to acknowledge me and find out what i needed, table for 1 inside. She seemed to be on her own and was super efficient. She gave me a table around the corner with a few tables and occupied by couples. I appreciated that i wasnt planked in the middle of a busy restaurant. She then asked if the table had enough light for me to read the book i was carrying, which I assured her there was. I ordered the wee mussels and sweet potato fritters, a glass of pino grigio and when she brought the wine she asked about my book. The food was delicious, fresh and full of authentic flavours - I was even eating the micro greens to get that holy basil flavour! I will definitely be back, alone or with friends.

good food but very bad service. The staff including the management are entitled and treat you with no respect or kindness. We were sitting there for hours with our young child, to be served, while there were two large groups who arrived after us and being served before us. After many recommendations, we visited recently and were somewhat disappointed. The smell of wet dog inside the restaurant was our first concern, however the service was excellent and food portions were generous. Even after asking for no spice, one of the dishes was very hot and difficult to enjoy, only because we don't like spicy food, however, probably due to red chilli's in everything. My main bone of contention was the cost, £4.20 for a CAN of coke zero was a rip off and for that reason including the above, would not return and felt a little scammed to be charged such an amount for a soft drink Twice. Total bill was £85 for two course for 2 people with drinks.

Very disappointing experience, after all the hype this turned out to be an inauthentic, tasteless hipster joint instead of a proper Vietnamese restaurant. We tried several menu items, but aside from the banh mi (which was good) the rest was just a comedy of errors. Shitty satay (bad sauce and presented in a bowl, for maximum discomfort when eating), lifeless pho (avoid the pink cabbage) and gross fish cakes made for an expensive and unsatisfactory meal. The ambiance is sort of nice for five minutes, but the tables are small and make for uncomfortable seating, the toilet is more like a diorama of a toilet than an actual toilet and the whole place is hot and unpleasant. In other words: either get your Banh Mi to go, or just avoid this place altogether.

I’ve now been to Hanoi Bike Shop three times and each return was worse than the last. On this occasion the food was fine, the drinks were alright, and the service shocking! The dishes come as and when they are ready, ok, but an hour for what is effectively noodle soup to be served is just ridiculous! By the time my meal arrived everyone else in our party had finished. It also took the server twenty minutes from being seated to offer us a drink. Embarrassingly poor service. I could have forgiven this (maybe) if the food had been good but it wasn’t, it was fine and fine isn’t what you want when eating out. In short, there is a Tesco around the corner selling pho kits. Disappointing experience. Very lengthy wait between arriving and finally ordering a drink. It was explained that the food would arrive as and when it was ready- this concept only really works with sharing plates, not when you are encouraged to order a starter and a main. For us, it meant again a very lengthy wait between dishes. Half the party had finished their main before others had received their first dish. If it had been explained that they were short staffed, we would have understood. However there was little in the way of an apology or any explanation. We only were afforded the opportunity order a drink once, meaning a long time waiting for dishes with nothing to drink. We won’t be back.

I've been here twice but now wouldn't go again. The first time was good (though it was after a couple of drinks) but the most recent time was really disappointing. We both had the vegan pho, but the tofu tasted stale and was cold in the middle. The coating wasn't crisp and felt almost bready. It seemed like it had been sitting around for a while before being put in the soup. I raised this with the server - which I never do, but the tofu really was so bad - and they said it wasn't crisp because it was in the broth. I've eaten and cooked a lot of tofu in my time and wasn't convinced. This did not taste like tofu that has recently been crisp but had soaked up broth, not least because it had a stale texture on arrival. We were also waiting around for a while after coming in through the door, which was confusing and almost made us go elsewhere, which we probably should have done.

They also operate a "your food will arrive when it's ready", which resulted in eating every dish one after the other - nothing arrived at the same time. We also had a voucher to use, however due to an ongoing promotion, the staff could not add our voucher in conjunction with this. Even though the table booking asks for the voucher code online, we were not informed about this at any point until we asked for the bill. Poorly handled by staff who couldn't have cared less about the situation.

Our first time trying Vietnamese food with their 50% pho & pot & grill meals. Really yummy food & great value at 50% off! The steak bavette was a little underwhelming, needed a bit of rice or something for the price. The beef pho (I got extra noodles & an egg) & the ginger caramel chicken were really good! Loved the food, not much atmosphere inside which is why I rated it quite low on atmosphere. However, a good spot for a cold day!

This is a lovely small restaurant with a real buzz. The food is superb, so flavoursome and portion sizes generous. Will definitely return.

"You won’t find tofu like ours anywhere else in Scotland " Partner booked it for our anniversary, we got there and got told they don't have tofu today 😂 The disappointment when you're vegetarian and got hyped up for that "best tofu" in Scotland. After driving ages from the other side of Glasgow and wasting petrol. Doesn't take much to either post it on Instagram story or email customers so they don't waste their money on fuel. Especially that a lot of people would be coming for that tofu. Definitely put us off trying this place. Anniversary date ruined 😂 The smell in there was very off putting as well. It was awful. But the boy that talked to us was very lovely and I completely understand that it's not his fault that the place that prides itself in their tofu, doesn't have any. Definitely 5 stars to the boy. He was trying his best to come up with recommendations of where we could go instead.

Wow, great food and atmosphere! We will be returning to sample the rest of the menu! I had Caramel Ginger chicken which was amazing and my wife had a spicy beef dish. In truth, we ended up sharing each other's plates.

We were very taken with the Hanoi Bike Shop. The staff were delightful and the food excellent. The menu was quite wide and varied and we were very happy with the choice.

4 friends out to try the banquet menu which didn’t disappoint! Lots of varied dishes with plenty of food, each one was as fresh and delicious as the next. Really not sure why this place has had some bad reviews, we were very happy customers.

The chicken satay alone was worth the visit, the food was superb.

Located in the hipster enclave. Had a light lunch of their fishcakes. Was pleasantly surprised at how meaty and springy the fishcakes were (other establishments add too much flour and fillers to cut costs and they end up hard and rubbery). The fishcakes were panfried and crispy on the outside. Friendly service. Industrial/rustic/Viet decor. An enjoyable meal.

I really loved my meal hère. Thé beef pho IS delicious. The noodles were perfectly cooked and it was neither too spicy or too bland. Thé staff was incredibly polite and hardworking. However thé bench closest to the bar IS too high relative to thé table meaning you have to eat hunched over. Also theres a very particular scent in the restaurant which IS very noticable when you first arrive.

Had an anniversary meal here and ordered the banquet tonight. The food was ok but the amount of food we got for £60 was not enough it’s called a banquet but it’s half a main and a couple of starters. Poor quality and disappointing.

Had been about ten years since visiting Hanoi Bike Shop. It’s in a great location down a little lane and has a cute interior, good music and service was not bad at all. The food was that kind of British-Vietnamese fusion and was just OK. The prices are absolutely extortionate however. Steer clear of the fish cakes in the street food menu as £13 for 3 measley potato smiley sized salty fish cakes is a complete and utter rip off - that’s what you would expect to pay in Chelsea or Knightbridge, not Glasgow. Mains from the 'grill' menu hover around the £18-20 mark and are relatively filling but again the overpowering flavour is of salt and not much else and don’t feel there is value for money here. I haven’t tried the pho but have heard it’s good… maybe that’s where I went wrong.

Food was pretty good but not mind blowing. Tofu is definitely worth trying and was unique. Food will come out as they make it, so some folks may be waiting. Also room is small with not really comfortable seating for such a wait.

Food was lovely but the service is shocking. We were left waiting for ages for the staff to come and take our plates away and give us our bill. The staff were all really bored looking and sitting about. There was one nice lady who worked the bar but that was it. We even saw a couple waiting to be seated that left because they were left standing for too long. I was really wanting a dessert but because they took so long to come back to us after our mains I decided against it. Even though the food was lovely we won’t be coming back purely based on service.

Excellent food and service. Staff are friendly, polite efficient. There are no long waiting times between being seated, ordering and being served. There is also no sense of being rushed here. It's not expensive. The portions are an appropriate size, so you don't feel too full of leave hungry. It's popular for people of all ages. There's usually been a family or two when I visited. A good choice for a special meal, or just a catch up. I've visited several times, and still find things I want to try, as well as having favourite dishes to return to.
