Food. Excellent. Atmosphere. Great. Service. The waitresses were brilliant and attentive. However the lady behind the bar (who I discovered is the landlady) was incredibly slow and had no sense of urgency about her. Will I be back? Yes.

Great food and service every time I've been here!

Lovely looking place and inside just as nice! But we found a big difference on our visit on the Sunday 30th June to another visit on Tuesday 2nd July! On the Sunday we had just arrived and went inside to have a drink, I know they had a few tables reserved for food and we were literally directed to a corner of a very quiet No atmosphere room! I was told I could sit at a table in the main room but would have to move if someone came in !! The staff were so orientated on food never seen anything like it! Then we weren’t going to visit again but as we next door at the Travelodge we decided for convenience to go and have a drink! Well what a change with staff! 2 cheery young ladies serving a drink with friendliness and smiles!!!

After being recommended to have a Sunday lunch here by other family members who have only ever had good things to say, myself and the people I was with were very shocked with how our afternoon went. Overall, the service was really poor. Hardly greeted at the door and seated with hardly any word even though the pub was not busy at this point. Specifically for the roast menu, what came out was not what was written on the menu itself and what did come out was not really what we were expecting for what it's priced as, which is far too high for what it was and the overall service experience. Having to ask over and over for items that were missing with our meals. We weren't asked if everything was okay with our meals and when we were finished no one was coming to take our plates away! We paid and left before they were taken. And myself and another member of my party started to feel really unwell only half an hour after leaving, bad stomach cramps and nausea which carried on into the next day. It was a real shame to have had the experience we did as we have always only heard good things which it may well be most of the time or we wouldn't of had the recommendation, but I have been well put off form going again personally.

Just behind where we were staying. Total brilliant find. You may have to wait as they were busy when we went. Food was amazing Not fast food But good food done as quick as they can.Burgers were homemade and so tasty. Portions big. Staff friendly and atmosphere really comfortable. Would definitely recommend to anyone....

Lovely lunch here, food was great. Staff lovely. Disabled toilet was a bit tricky to access in our electric wheelchair but it was do-able.

We were recommended this place while staying at the Holiday Inn Express and I'm so glad we went, myself, my wife and my 2 adult children all expressed how lovely and delicious the food is. So we all ordered the Chicken filled with mozzarella and chorizo wrapped in Bacon and it was so tasty and moist, we then all had the Chocolate Fondant which a lovely balanced flavour in that it was not too sweet. My wife is an excellent cook and even she said how good it was.....high praise indeed.

Great experience, excellent food. Asked about allergies unbidden and when told about my milk allergy, took our order and checked with the chef, potato puree etc substitued for non milk containing items. Fabulous. Quality and safety.

I have been for a meal at lunch time here before, and enjoyed the belly pork so thought I’d order it again!! unfortunately this meal was far from the same, considering it was £20 ahead the portion had shrunk to less than half, the pork had gone from two nice portions to one small one without cracking, the plate was cold and made up with vegetables, my six year old granddaughter had very little choice for food as there was no child’s menu, which was just blurbed at us by the waiter, everything was with chips except some pasta, which was was under cooked and bland, my friend had the burger which was dry and under seasoned. And to top it off it was £7 for a glass of wine!!! The staff weren’t very warm towards us and the woman at the bar seemed to be staring at me most of the time. Very weird atmosphere and well over priced for reduced portions. Want be coming back again.

Great homemade food. Dogs welcome in the bar area which was great for my in law's who came to visit from Wales.

Great place to stop at and break your journey. Food OK but the sea bass we had was overcooked and drowned in a green salsa. Stir fry was excellent. Good outside area and would visit again

We had plugged in our EV and wanted lunch within walking distance. Google maps said this place.was a ten minute walk, so we decided to give it a go. The walk was very pleasant including a pedestrian bridge over the highway. We were seated right away and the food selection made it challenging to pick something, but we succeeded. The food took a while to arrive but we believe several large tables had ordered just before us because our food and several tables around us had all our meals delivered at the same time. The food was excellent. The staff was friendly even with the high customer count. I would love to go here again if I am ever in the area.

Amazing menu .. loved the Mediterranean style ... staff worked very hard as quite busy ... but still had time to chat with us ... gardens were beautiful and well looked after . Cant wait to return in Sunday for lunch 😋

We had a wonderful experience at The Hankridge Arms. The food here is absolutely delicious! Everything we tried was bursting with flavor and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend Sunday roast. Very friendly staff and atmosphere. Well done! We will come back.

Disappointed evening out.. staff friendly and helpful but food quality poor. Starters of soufflé and the squid were very good. Steak was tough chips dry not what you expect when paying over£30 , this was taken off bill. Belly pork was ok nothing special veg and potato spoilt by very bland taste. Hence didn’t have dessert.

Lovely old characterful place with nice outdoor seating too. Big car park and dog friendly. We were welcomed straight away and the service from Mia, our server, was excellent and she went above and beyond. We had mixed grills which were massive and we could have shared one between two and also they were excellent quality. Highly recommended

Deceptively excellent restaurant

Lunch today ...I ordered belly pork. The plate was cold...I asked for mashed potato instead of fondant ...but it was only just warm and the belly pork was tough! Crackling pretty poor too. A friend had cheese soufle which although tasted ok ...the presentation of it wasnt good...it looked burnt....

Our first and definitely last visit. We came to the Hankridge for a family celebration. The bar staff are nice and helpful, and to be honest, I thought this would be a good sign for the food. Wrong. The Tuesday tapas were poor quality and bland. The veggy burger was so dry and flavourless that my daughter was so disappointed. My nephews beef burger, in his words, was the worst he had ever had. He ate half of it and gave up. I sent my mezze board back to the kitchen because the fresh mozzarella was slimmy, fizzy on the tongue, and rancid. Yes, the dish was taken off the bill, bit for the rest of the night, the chefs took turns walking past our table and scowling at me! Sorry, but this is just not good enough. Won't go back and definitely won't be recommending to anyone.

We visited the Hankridge Arms for Sunday lunch. The landlady was very welcoming and accommodating as we hadn’t prior booked. Great service and the food was delicious with generous portions and reasonably priced. Highly recommend and we will be back

Love this place, second visit and always great food and service. We have been with our young children and are so accommodating. It's a great stop on the way down to Cornwall, as just off the M5. Recommend the cod sandwich, brie and bacon and the special meat sandwich.

Surprisingly good for its location.

Our family went to the Hankridge for a Mothers Day lunch and we were all very impressed with it. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly. We all had roast beef which was great and the serving size was huge. they also gave us Mums a free glass of prosseco. Highly recommend

33 pound steak, grilled and delicious

Came today and we thought it was great , service was really good and food was even better even had a table inside for our dog to come in as well. We will be back

You wouldn’t expect something like this to be where it is. I have had three different dinners here now and they’ve all been really nice. It’s nothing fancy it’s just good food. Plus very friendly service.

Found this very close to M5 Taunton junction 25 after searching for GF pub with carpark.Lovely atmosphere and staff, good value and well presented pub food. Completely better than a service station! We will go again next time we are on the road. Open for food lunchtime 12 - 2.30 and 5.30 to 8.30 week days and from 12 to 8.30 on weekends.

Great menu. Food good. Service courteous and attentive. A bit slow on meal delivery, but acceptable. Will definitely go back.

Hankridge Arms is a halfway house location to meet with family. Booked for Sunday lunch week in advance, easy online process. Did state one dog and baby requiring high chair to be taken into account, table most suited for our needs waiting. The roast dinner was lovely, well cooked, definitely plenty on plate. Great staff, from bar to waiting, decently priced from food to drink.

Crikey, there's a reason this place is empty. Food was awful, but the staff?! We saw them rolling their eyes at customers when they turned their backs, denying someone being allowed to sit in the dining area (because the music was so rubbish in the bar) when there was not one person in the area, and only 6 in the entire pub! That was our first and last visit. Not a nice place.

The place has a very welcoming energy, the staff were friendly and polite, plenty of options on the menu, food came quickly, big portions, i couldn't eat half of it, was so filling. Good value for money, i'd happily go on my own if ever down there again

Nice burger - pub lacking in atmosphere but otherwise all good

Was really pleased they fitted us in without a booking as they were busy - Perhaps 10 minutes later would have been a different story. Atmosphere was great as it was the run up to Christmas. I ordered the Festive Turkey dinner and Mum had the Harrissa Salmon Tagliatelle. The food wasn't as nice as meals we've had there before which was disappointing but hoping it was just an off day.

The best steak we’ve ever had! It really was out of this world and we’re quite fussy with our steaks but we honestly couldn’t fault it at all! Generous portions for what you pay and service was excellent. We’ll be back and recommending to friends and family for sure!

Lovely hidden away restaurant/ bar. Decor is so nice and old barn looking. Stayed in a hotel nearby so was well within walking distance. Staff are so so friendly. Meal was good Definitely coming back again.

A group of us (11 ) came for a roast dinner. It was absolutely delicious/ the best we have ever had!! Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Thankyou so much to ALL of those who made our experience really enjoyable. Beautiful and cosy and Christmassy 💕

Overall really good. Staff were friendly and the food nice. I gave only 4 stars because of the pathetic excuse for a mince pie with the mulled wine. a lot of money for that.

We had a 50th surprise family get together. The food was delicious and really the best we’ve had in a very long time. The staff really made the experience unforgettable and will be returning again. Nice old pub, circa 17th century, good food and service, bit of an odd Location on a retail park off the Motorway. Beer choices could be more extensive.

Only stopped for a pint. Great service, great location with garden views to the sea. But, expensive!

This is a beautiful old building with wooden beams and wood burners. It's really full of character and feels full of history. The food was delicious but I such massive portions that it was a bit off putting. The ham hock terrine was full of meat and very tasty but the curry flavoured veg lent nothing to the dish at all. I would have preferred it to be a piccalli and that's what I thought it was but it turned out to be nothing like it. The steak was flavoursome and cooked really well. The green beans and garlic were perfectly cooked. The chunky chips were crispy and fluffy. A genuinely lovely experience with friendly service and no long waits

Three of us were looking forward to a fun family meal. However, all our meals were of a poor standard. The Kapso Chicken was no more than 4 strips of chicken goujons covered with curry sauce you would buy in a fish and chip shop making the chicken covering soggy. The two pizzas were tasteless n dry. It is not in my nature to complain however, this meal was very disappointing and not good value for sure

I have eaten many times at the Hankridge and always the food is very good, my favourite is the Fish & Chips. My recent visit I ordered my favourite the fish was nearly all batter hardly any fish. Very disappointed. Reported it to one of the staff and the response was very negative.

Ate here whilst travelling to Cornwall for hols before the Bank Holiday in August. I emailed them earlier in the week explaining we were staying nearby at the holiday inn and would have a dog with us. Fast reply and table booked in bar area. Faultless experience- good food, friendly staff and nice drinks selection. Dog was given her own water bowl and some attention from the service team.

My husband and I visited last week. The Shellfish Tagliatelle was incredible. The portion size was generous considering it was on the Light Bite & Salads menu. Couldn't fault a thing.

Good food, good service, good to relax, better book

I really love the food at this lovely little pub, but today left me feeling a little underwhelmed, although I opted for the light menu by having the ploughman’s lunch I didn’t expect for £13 to only get a tiny breadboard with two pits of different cheeses some ham and a boiled egg. All as you would expect, but it only came with a tiny ramekin of piccalilli half a pickled onion, and two slices of bread, not whole slices, so no salad, no apple, no tomato, no onion no accomplishments, as expected from a normal traditional Ploughman’s lunch. I asked for a small side salad 🥗 in the end which was a tiny bowl of salad leaves 🤷‍♀️ such a shame 😌

Book a meal for 3 people for a special occasion, despite not being very busy, we were seated in the bar area, with a dog right behind us. Restaurant area was almost empty. Food was terrible, fish pie and mash completely tasteless with no seasoning, green veg smothered in garlic (why?). I had to get this changed. The 3rd person had a Thai curry which was watery and the chicken was very dry. We ate less than half the meal and just couldn't face any more. We told the 'waiter' the meal was almost inedible and tasteless, but no apology or anything. Needless we will NOT be returning. Overpriced and not at all good.

Top level of service fantastic people and food you pay for what you get and the price and food was amazing so fresh. We spent a lot of time here and was always welcomed back. Was there with my brother from a different mother his a fantastic Welch one and turns the landlord was from Wales so chat was great. Felt very welcome on each visit. Although had to explain I wasn't wearing a skirt it was a camouflage kilt. We had a good joke about that one. Great place great food and people.

I genuinely hate writing a negative review, but what has happened to The Hankridge? Usually so reliable, but this evening three out of the four of us had disappointing meals. An underwhelming tiny fish pie with shreds of fish, an undercooked pizza base with no sauce under the cheese, and a burnt veal chop with soggy mushrooms in an incredibly salty stock (not a mushroom sauce). Very disappointing. We were too embarrassed to make a fuss as we were celebrating with a family member, but we won’t be back in a hurry.

Hi-end gastropub but (unlike most) with a friendly atmosphere for those just popping in for a drink.

It is a convenient location near the town but also near the motorway. Plenty of parking. Dog friendly. Friendly staff. The food was nice.

Nice pub close to the M5. My beef burger was a bit burnt so i had to remove small sections but nothing crazy. Desserts were amazing with the homemade cheesecake as my favourite. The brownie is also good. Familiar environment woth a nice outdoors area for the summertime

Good pub and place to eat and have some drinks. We had a burger and a chicken salad. The desserts were really good and a homemade cheesecake different every week. This was white chocolate and baileys. Really recommended and nice and efficient staff.

We had Pizza. Not a lot of topping, bit bland so disappointing and expensive for what it was. Staff very helpful and friendly. Lovely building.

After getting settled in the nearby Travelodge, we went out for a evening meal and found this lovely pub a few yards away. Staff are very welcoming and friendly and the pub is one of plenty of character. We looked after by the lovely Leah and made sure was ok during our meal. Food is of high quality and good sized portions for the money. A good selection of drinks are on offer. They have plenty of rooms with seating and a lovely beer garden as well. Plenty of parking at the back of the pub.Fully recommended. Fantastic service.

Came here with friends for a Sunday dinner. I personally found the waiter rude,wanted to know what I wanted t drink the second I sat down,when I asked for a drinks menu she harshly stayed they don't have one unless I want wine so what do I want! Well without knowing what they have I felt bad having to ask what they serve. She didn't seem happy. Two of us that had the beef Had to unfortunately send it back to be cooked more as it was mostly red raw which maybe some people's preference but not ours. Food was good quality and a decent portion.sad they didn't have stuffing. Puddings were quite expensive for that they are so I wouldn't recommend them..cheaper to pick up a bigger better cake at sainsburys over the road. Toilets available but exstreamly small..I mean it. Lovely building and outside area.

Surprising , so much history , authentic property. We both enjoyed top notch sandwiches. Dog friendly too.

I don't think I've ever eaten such tasty food, I certainly haven't in years. Add to that the fascinating architecture and the lovely staff and it was an extremely pleasant day out. Although it's in a surprising area there is a very nice riverside walk close by and the proximity to the motorway is very helpful (for me anyway) I will certainly be going back when I am in the area.

We turned up on a Saturday evening having just travelled back from Bristol Airport and were all starving. Despite the kitchen being just about to close we were made to feel very welcome. Food was great as was the service. Not many people in which is why I scored lower for atmosphere but that's only a snapshot. I'm sure it would be great with a few more punters.
