Good food and excellent service.

We went with friends on Saturday 15th February and I can honestly say we have never had such disgusting food. None of us could eat our meal. The seafood platter (£20!) was just Iceland deep fried food, no vegetables and no garnish. Plate just looked like a brown mess 🤮. Another friend had the pie and it was so dry that it was almost inedible. The Soufflé was completely tasteless. I won’t go in to every meal but it was inedible. Added to this was the wait of over an hour from before we even got our food. This is the first time we have been to Hankridge Arms and we had such high hopes with the building being so pretty and the menu looking good. We won’t be back!!

Cajun chicken burger arrived cremated, beef burgers very dry, tough and not much taste. Fish and chips also over cooked and saturated. Used to be a nice place to eat. Very expensive for the quality. Would rather go to McDonalds.

Don't let the location put you off. This is a lovely old building that trains much of its period charm. Generous portions of good food. Service was, unfortunately, slow with a very long wait between starters and main courses. The onion rings were very dark and tasted like they had been fried at least once too often. The food was otherwise very tasty.

JUST WOW! Booked in for Sunday lunch at 12pm sitting for my husbands birthday, 5 adults, 3 children and a dog, as if accommodating that didn't deserve 5 stars and though dogs are only allowed in the bar area, it was still like being in a main restaurant = a lovely ambience! Then 3 of our party of 8, were delayed by a crash on the A38, the staff didn't get stressed/demand the table back, instead we received the best service imaginable. Then when the party was complete, we received absolutely fabulous food and again fabulous service - even catering for a dairy free toddler. I just cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! The food is superb, the staff are lovely and even at a Sunday lunch sitting, several diners were having alternatives to the Sunday Roast from the menu (although the roast was 100% bang on!) Thank you so much to all of the staff, front of house and in the kitchen - you were AMAZING

Excellent food that tastes delicious. I keep coming back to here for food, it never disappoints. Fave so far is the slow cooked belly pork, really tasty and tender. Portions are decent as well, and they’re dog friendly. Win win as far as I’m concerned.

Lovely place and hard working staff, only a 3 star due to my pork belly was not crispy and rubbery fat top, completely the chefs fault as it should not have left the kitchen, all others on our table had very good food.

Venue is lovely, very interesting building, and the staff are friendly and attentive. Food is fine, not outstanding but perfectly acceptable, portion sizes are great. A decent place to go.

Christmas Dinner here was fantastic. Easily the best Christmas Dinner I have had eating out anywhere. The staff all went to a lot of effort into making what should be a special day special

Super busy as Christmas so that's fine. Poor waitress had a streaming cold and probably was made to work - and we all got it!! 😭 Food was really mediocre. All had roasts. Bacon featured far too heavily and was flabby. Sprouts were inedible. Panna cotte is meant to have a wobble, not be solid and something buttermilk flavoured should hopefully taste like it. Weird that the landlady/manager made a huge deal about people not having cappuccino after lunch but serves milk based desserts instead! 😂 Sorry, but would not recommend or go back.

We came in here for a ‘light lunch’ and some of the food were to a good standard whereas I had the burger and it was extremely dry almost to burnt. An hour long wait possibly more for food to arrive and had various mess ups on the order. There were what looked like only two members of staff working on a very busy Monday lunch. However the waitress was very friendly and mostly understanding.

Welcoming, attentive staff. MASSIVE portions! Really good GF choices. Easy parking.

Worst meal here ever. Fish and chips very overcooked, two peoples burger plates burnt. Come on you can do better than this surely !

Lovely food. Just what we wanted. Chef standard food in a pub setting.

Visiting for the afternoon to meet a friend, I was recommended this establishment. On arrival my immediate impression is of an environment that is not overly friendly and is very cold. After taking a (rather hard) seat and ordering a drink (a not hugely pleasant tasting coffee and in search of sugar), I have already decided that I am not going to stay for lunch. The atmosphere is bizarre, a mixture of a very cold room, overly loud music and staff laughing, focused on chatting between themselves about non-work related matters, which I understand can happen when it's quiet, but it really does not add value to the atmosphere or my experience. For the menu prices, I would expect better. I am not likely to return. Sorry, not a place for me.

Thoroughly enjoyed Sunday Lunch at the Hankridge Arms today. Fantastic old building with great original features. Superb menu with lots of choice including a Sunday Roast with a fantastic selection of veg - fed cabbage, swede and cauliflower cheese alongside the usual roasties, carrots and greens all included in the price of £18 for meat and £17 for lentil nut roast. Hubby enjoyed the beef - thinly sliced but plentiful and tender. My friend had the chicken, served on the bone with bread sauce and stuffing. I enjoyed the nut roast. Even though we were full from main the desserts looked too good to miss and we each tried a different one - sticky toffee pudding, chocolate and caramel tart and banana fritters (suitable for vegans) Wish we lived closer as we’d make this a regular place

I have given this one star but the starter and the main were really nice. But then came the dessert..... one of my party ordered the chocolate caramel tart which when he came he discovered that he was unable to cut the base of the tart even with putting some brute force to try to cut. The reason for the one star review is because we mentioned it to the waitress she apologised and said she would take it off the bill after we declined another dessert. She then returned from the kitchen to say that the chef says that is how it's meant to be the caramel hardens over time (how long had it been sat there) when the bill arrived the tart was still on there...... as my party did not want to make a scene we paid and left.... really disappointing in the end to what started off as a good meal

Very disappointing visit. Our meals came out at totally different times and one was incorrect and had to be changed. Meat was very dry and stir fry very oily. Did mention it to staff who didn't seem bothered. Additional drinks we didnt have added to our bill. Such a shame as this was always was a 'go to' for us. Hopefully, just an off night

A big improvement on my last visit in 2022.Some of the young wait staff are not fully aware of the beers on sale. Our meals - a chicken dish in a skillet and a spicy Moroccan lamb burger - were very well prepared and tasty, Reasonsble value in the post Covid hospitality scene

First and last time here. Food was cold. Tasted burnt. Was very poor for the cost of the meal. Staff not very welcoming..had to sit in a cold room eating cold food for top prices.

Walked round to this pub a couple of minutes away from the Travelodge Taunton where we were staying. Friendly but not in-your-face service, excellent food. Would recommend.

A pub I felt OK to be in as a single woman there for a meal. A tasty roasted veg linguini on a proper sized pasta plate. I would go back again.

Lovely pub tucked away in a retail park.

Stayed at the local hotel and thought I'd nip in for my evening meal, £32 for steak and chips. I'm at the skylark tonight it's just cost me £12.99 and that comes with a drink. Food and atmosphere here is different league.

Food was a bit overpriced. Children's menu was useless. Was told they really don't cater for children so only had two options, which they have added recently, If they don't want children then they should say ADULTS ONLY. People could take themselves and children elsewhere. Also their disabled parking bays are not wide enough. We weren't told about daily specials either.

Food. Excellent. Atmosphere. Great. Service. The waitresses were brilliant and attentive. However the lady behind the bar (who I discovered is the landlady) was incredibly slow and had no sense of urgency about her. Will I be back? Yes.

Lovely looking place and inside just as nice! But we found a big difference on our visit on the Sunday 30th June to another visit on Tuesday 2nd July! On the Sunday we had just arrived and went inside to have a drink, I know they had a few tables reserved for food and we were literally directed to a corner of a very quiet No atmosphere room! I was told I could sit at a table in the main room but would have to move if someone came in !! The staff were so orientated on food never seen anything like it! Then we weren’t going to visit again but as we next door at the Travelodge we decided for convenience to go and have a drink! Well what a change with staff! 2 cheery young ladies serving a drink with friendliness and smiles!!!

After being recommended to have a Sunday lunch here by other family members who have only ever had good things to say, myself and the people I was with were very shocked with how our afternoon went. Overall, the service was really poor. Hardly greeted at the door and seated with hardly any word even though the pub was not busy at this point. Specifically for the roast menu, what came out was not what was written on the menu itself and what did come out was not really what we were expecting for what it's priced as, which is far too high for what it was and the overall service experience. Having to ask over and over for items that were missing with our meals. We weren't asked if everything was okay with our meals and when we were finished no one was coming to take our plates away! We paid and left before they were taken. And myself and another member of my party started to feel really unwell only half an hour after leaving, bad stomach cramps and nausea which carried on into the next day. It was a real shame to have had the experience we did as we have always only heard good things which it may well be most of the time or we wouldn't of had the recommendation, but I have been well put off form going again personally.

Just behind where we were staying. Total brilliant find. You may have to wait as they were busy when we went. Food was amazing Not fast food But good food done as quick as they can.Burgers were homemade and so tasty. Portions big. Staff friendly and atmosphere really comfortable. Would definitely recommend to anyone....

Lovely lunch here, food was great. Staff lovely. Disabled toilet was a bit tricky to access in our electric wheelchair but it was do-able.

We were recommended this place while staying at the Holiday Inn Express and I'm so glad we went, myself, my wife and my 2 adult children all expressed how lovely and delicious the food is. So we all ordered the Chicken filled with mozzarella and chorizo wrapped in Bacon and it was so tasty and moist, we then all had the Chocolate Fondant which a lovely balanced flavour in that it was not too sweet. My wife is an excellent cook and even she said how good it was.....high praise indeed.

Great experience, excellent food. Asked about allergies unbidden and when told about my milk allergy, took our order and checked with the chef, potato puree etc substitued for non milk containing items. Fabulous. Quality and safety.

I have been for a meal at lunch time here before, and enjoyed the belly pork so thought I’d order it again!! unfortunately this meal was far from the same, considering it was £20 ahead the portion had shrunk to less than half, the pork had gone from two nice portions to one small one without cracking, the plate was cold and made up with vegetables, my six year old granddaughter had very little choice for food as there was no child’s menu, which was just blurbed at us by the waiter, everything was with chips except some pasta, which was was under cooked and bland, my friend had the burger which was dry and under seasoned. And to top it off it was £7 for a glass of wine!!! The staff weren’t very warm towards us and the woman at the bar seemed to be staring at me most of the time. Very weird atmosphere and well over priced for reduced portions. Want be coming back again.

Great homemade food. Dogs welcome in the bar area which was great for my in law's who came to visit from Wales.

Great place to stop at and break your journey. Food OK but the sea bass we had was overcooked and drowned in a green salsa. Stir fry was excellent. Good outside area and would visit again

We had plugged in our EV and wanted lunch within walking distance. Google maps said this place.was a ten minute walk, so we decided to give it a go. The walk was very pleasant including a pedestrian bridge over the highway. We were seated right away and the food selection made it challenging to pick something, but we succeeded. The food took a while to arrive but we believe several large tables had ordered just before us because our food and several tables around us had all our meals delivered at the same time. The food was excellent. The staff was friendly even with the high customer count. I would love to go here again if I am ever in the area.

Amazing menu .. loved the Mediterranean style ... staff worked very hard as quite busy ... but still had time to chat with us ... gardens were beautiful and well looked after . Cant wait to return in Sunday for lunch 😋

Disappointed evening out.. staff friendly and helpful but food quality poor. Starters of soufflé and the squid were very good. Steak was tough chips dry not what you expect when paying over£30 , this was taken off bill. Belly pork was ok nothing special veg and potato spoilt by very bland taste. Hence didn’t have dessert.

Lovely old characterful place with nice outdoor seating too. Big car park and dog friendly. We were welcomed straight away and the service from Mia, our server, was excellent and she went above and beyond. We had mixed grills which were massive and we could have shared one between two and also they were excellent quality. Highly recommended

Deceptively excellent restaurant

Lunch today ...I ordered belly pork. The plate was cold...I asked for mashed potato instead of fondant ...but it was only just warm and the belly pork was tough! Crackling pretty poor too. A friend had cheese soufle which although tasted ok ...the presentation of it wasnt good...it looked burnt....

Our first and definitely last visit. We came to the Hankridge for a family celebration. The bar staff are nice and helpful, and to be honest, I thought this would be a good sign for the food. Wrong. The Tuesday tapas were poor quality and bland. The veggy burger was so dry and flavourless that my daughter was so disappointed. My nephews beef burger, in his words, was the worst he had ever had. He ate half of it and gave up. I sent my mezze board back to the kitchen because the fresh mozzarella was slimmy, fizzy on the tongue, and rancid. Yes, the dish was taken off the bill, bit for the rest of the night, the chefs took turns walking past our table and scowling at me! Sorry, but this is just not good enough. Won't go back and definitely won't be recommending to anyone.

We visited the Hankridge Arms for Sunday lunch. The landlady was very welcoming and accommodating as we hadn’t prior booked. Great service and the food was delicious with generous portions and reasonably priced. Highly recommend and we will be back

Love this place, second visit and always great food and service. We have been with our young children and are so accommodating. It's a great stop on the way down to Cornwall, as just off the M5. Recommend the cod sandwich, brie and bacon and the special meat sandwich.

Surprisingly good for its location.

Our family went to the Hankridge for a Mothers Day lunch and we were all very impressed with it. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly. We all had roast beef which was great and the serving size was huge. they also gave us Mums a free glass of prosseco. Highly recommend

You wouldn’t expect something like this to be where it is. I have had three different dinners here now and they’ve all been really nice. It’s nothing fancy it’s just good food. Plus very friendly service.

Found this very close to M5 Taunton junction 25 after searching for GF pub with carpark.Lovely atmosphere and staff, good value and well presented pub food. Completely better than a service station! We will go again next time we are on the road. Open for food lunchtime 12 - 2.30 and 5.30 to 8.30 week days and from 12 to 8.30 on weekends.

Great menu. Food good. Service courteous and attentive. A bit slow on meal delivery, but acceptable. Will definitely go back.

Crikey, there's a reason this place is empty. Food was awful, but the staff?! We saw them rolling their eyes at customers when they turned their backs, denying someone being allowed to sit in the dining area (because the music was so rubbish in the bar) when there was not one person in the area, and only 6 in the entire pub! That was our first and last visit. Not a nice place.

Hankridge Arms is a halfway house location to meet with family. Booked for Sunday lunch week in advance, easy online process. Did state one dog and baby requiring high chair to be taken into account, table most suited for our needs waiting. The roast dinner was lovely, well cooked, definitely plenty on plate. Great staff, from bar to waiting, decently priced from food to drink.

The place has a very welcoming energy, the staff were friendly and polite, plenty of options on the menu, food came quickly, big portions, i couldn't eat half of it, was so filling. Good value for money, i'd happily go on my own if ever down there again

Nice burger - pub lacking in atmosphere but otherwise all good

Was really pleased they fitted us in without a booking as they were busy - Perhaps 10 minutes later would have been a different story. Atmosphere was great as it was the run up to Christmas. I ordered the Festive Turkey dinner and Mum had the Harrissa Salmon Tagliatelle. The food wasn't as nice as meals we've had there before which was disappointing but hoping it was just an off day.

The best steak we’ve ever had! It really was out of this world and we’re quite fussy with our steaks but we honestly couldn’t fault it at all! Generous portions for what you pay and service was excellent. We’ll be back and recommending to friends and family for sure!

Lovely hidden away restaurant/ bar. Decor is so nice and old barn looking. Stayed in a hotel nearby so was well within walking distance. Staff are so so friendly. Meal was good Definitely coming back again.

A group of us (11 ) came for a roast dinner. It was absolutely delicious/ the best we have ever had!! Staff couldn’t do enough for us. Thankyou so much to ALL of those who made our experience really enjoyable. Beautiful and cosy and Christmassy 💕

Overall really good. Staff were friendly and the food nice. I gave only 4 stars because of the pathetic excuse for a mince pie with the mulled wine. a lot of money for that.
