Best fish and chips in the Taunton area for fish and chips. Very generous portions (1x Large chips will feed 3 hungry adults).

Had fish and chips . Sorry second time I have been and the food drastically needs to improve. Won't be going here again x

I’ve just paid £5 for utter rubbish ! Chips were clearly reheated, burnt, dry and tasteless . Would NOT recommend

The chips are utter rubbish. Burnt, dry and like cardboard. 5/6 times I have been there and they are always the same. The give you the excuse that the potatoes to make proper chips aren’t in season? Yet every single chip shop in the county manages to make perfectly good chips.

Friendly service. Had the curry sauce with a jumbo sausage and chips with pineapple fritters and still booking hot when we got the food back to where were staying. Price not bad for the area and would definitely recommend to anyone. If you spend under 5.00 you cannot use card.

The staff at this fish and chip shop are very accommodating but I’m afraid their products are not always as good as I would hope. The fish is generally very good as long as it has been freshly cooked. The chips are certainly plentiful but vary greatly and sometimes, as on this occasion, contained several that like leftover bits that had been warmed up.

I went here to get dinner with my friend and got a quarter pounder cheeseburger and got home to eat it and is was all pink inside the burger so couldn’t eat it so lost out on 5 pound make sure you check the burgers before you eat them

amazing quality of fish and chips as well as the sausages. all dishes are so tasty that' s impossible to stop coming back very nice staff with a new attendant extremelly professional, nice and polite, the kind we expect to see at a high end restaurant. strongly recomend this take away as it is probably the best I' ve ever been to.

Just paid all but £20 for 2 fish & chips, peas & sauce. Straight home (mins) Not problem IF! it had been hot & not 'old' chips..... ( same as the previous reviewers photo). This is not the first time we have experienced this lately. The quality of the end product has definitely deteriorated over last year. Shame.

Lovely food, polite staff, but on two occasions they have got my online order wrong, and the telephone isn't answered to rectify it. Will still use however 😊

Chips were really crispy and fluffy, fish was crispy and fresh

Polite and efficient staff however, a few times now we have tried to treat the kids to fish and chips and they have wrapped up old dry chips and dry fish. They keep the food in hot hold WAY too long and then sell it anyway. Very annoying especially when it is a treat for the kids. Best to go at a peak times so that you dont get sold old inedible food.

Decent fish and chips, which it should be for the prices they’re charging. Other than being a bit expensive all was good 👍👍

There is something wrong with the way they prioritise orders. It's not unusual to order something and have to wait and whilst you're waiting see a new customer come in, order the same thing and get their food straight away. The first time I thought it was a one off but it's happened a few times now. I've waited 20 minutes before and 5-10 other customers have come and gone and all that time the food I asked for was sitting on display in front of me. I don't know if they are playing games or just badly organised. I think I've had enough of it now and will go elsewhere.

We had fish n chips and doner, fish and chips was fresh and crispy, food was nice presentation kabab could of done with a little more sauce, the salad was nice and fresh, have had soggy chips in the past but was so much better tonight!

What a nice change to visit a fish and chip shop and not be disappointed. Good size portions cooked fresh and .friendly staff. Well done all, will definitely be using again.

Unfortunately tonight for some reason food was terrible, almost as if the fat was days old and hadn’t been changed. I called them to let them know, usually excellent.

Not star fish bar anymore new place new owners and called EMPIRE great food fresh tastes great new menu cand definitely say the chips with bacon and cheese are delicious 😋 Order online through themselves and pay online as well rather then just eat prices are reasonable as well small delivery chare of £3.50 cheaper than just eat photos of my 1st order pizza was very fresh and still nice and hot on arrival same as burger price list added for you guys as well so please give them a shot and give them a go

Previously good under the old ownership, over the course of the existing ownership portions have been thinning out prices have substantially increased (more than competitors) quality has remained ok, wrong orders frequently, however its clear what the ownerships agenda is (large profits) Business is built on fair pricing consistent service and good experiences, i have had several poor experiences, however I questioned the price of an item discreetly I was insulted by the 'owner' and told not to come back as I got into my car to leave I could see that I was being insulted led by staff and to customers who were all staring at myself.

Once again called at the Star ⭐️ Fish bar for my “ pensioners fish and chips “ wow so well enjoyed after carry home in their special box and eaten Also with a slice of lemon 🍋 We’ll done to you all and may it continue Malcolm

Worst place to get a kebab in Taunton. Always get the order wrong. I asked for regular salad, confirm it with the servers and the prep staff always manage to put the wrong, mixed minty salad on my meal. Ruining it in my opinion. Will not be ordering kebabs from them again Only gave 2 star so it got noticed. Would have preferred to give 0

Not been for a few years with lockdown etc so thought I’d try again but will not be going back. Cold chips and over cooked fish. £9 for a regular portion as well. Seems to of gone downhill

The usual range of products with added extra if burgers and kebabs, food is fresh as trade is good at peak times. Slightly pricey for chippy.

The food is lovely, always nice, hot and very reasonably priced. It is normally busy but it never takes long to get your order. I've been here numerous times and never had a bad meal so not sure about the bad reviews. COVID compliant too.

Recommended to us, and by far the best fish and chips we've found in the Taunton area. Chips were very nice and portion size was sensible. Fish was well cooked, quite flaky and the batter was crispy. Everything was hot. Service was very prompt, and we were in and out in just a few minutes. This was our first visit and we'll certainly be back.

The chips from here are never fantastic, we’ve been disappointed before, but tonight they were worse than usual! They really did have the taste and texture of chips that had been cooked on a previous occasion and then warmed back up again.Yuk! Perhaps they had been hanging around for too long? This seems likely, as my fish had also gone a bit dry! My partner was also unhappy with his chips, and said that his scampi was mediocre and not as good as it had been on a previous occasion. Will not be inclined to go back anytime soon!

Service and food is usually great but tonight I got a kebab, the meat was cold and hard, it went in the bin, very disappointed.

Very nice chip shop. The chips were lovely but a tad greasy. The curry sauce was amazing and the battered sausage was perfect very moist.

The best chip shop, we recently moved to North Petherton and still come to this shop for fish and chips.

Have used this takeaway restaurant for years and recently have found it to be not as good as it used to be. Today we had a takeaway and drove the 6miles to get home to discover they’d left ALL the salad off the kebab. It was just horrible dry meat in a pitta. We called them to find out why and they said that we now had to ask for salad if we wanted it! Since when? Wouldn’t it have been better to ask us if we didn't want it? Anyway, the food was really horrible - so couldn’t eat it after spending over £5.50 - ended up giving it to the dog. Won’t be going back - shame - but we’ve had enough now of wasting money, so I’ll be looking for a new takeaway.

Lovely fish n chips, I ordered a small kids sausage but weren't ready so get us a large so we didn't wait any longer. Grab a haddock it's amazing and medium chips is good for 2 adults and two kiddies. Only downside is I can't afford it everyday. Yummy.

We were on our holiday in the area and have used the Star Fish Bar twice, good food good prices and nice staff

Used to be a good chippy for nearly 5 years, change of staff or owners has ensured it has flipped head first. Now the portions are a lot smaller, Hair found in my fish and chips twice in a row. Ran out of chips also two visits in a row!!!! very long waits, a woman ordered sausage and chips and specifically asked for vinegar no salt only to be given salt no vinegar! So painful to watch, bless her she kept quiet and didnt fuss, having waited 20 minutes . Wont be returning 40 odd visits a year 500 pound a year loss.

Best fish and chips for miles around. You can even take them into the brilliant pub next door (Pebbles Tavern) and sit down and eat them with a fabulous pint or a specialist gin and tonic!

This place has gone downhill quicker than a rat down a drainpipe. It used to be amazing then a change of owners has left it in a bad way. Offish staff, terrible chips!!! smaller portions than before, kebabs not tasty anymore and the salad is not fresh and minimal and the Chicken Burgers are dry.They used to be queuing out the door not any more what a shame.

Bad service soggy chips, we have tried this place a few times with the same result. Please don't waste your money here try some where else.
