We came here for something to eat and it’s one of the best places we’ve ever been. From being greeted at the door by a lovely gentleman who got us a drink, to then being seated by one of the ladies working there. Nothing was a bother to any of them and they were extremely friendly. The food was absolutely perfect, extremely tasty. I had a vegetarian burger which isn’t normally my go to but it was absolutely amazing. My wife’s food was delicious too. For the price you pay, you get extremely good food here.

Absolutely wonderful place! Warm, welcoming and cosy pub. Great place for a pint or two and amazing food! The rooms are beautifully decorated, as is the pub and restaurant. The food looks and smells amazing and fantastic choice of beers, ciders and spirits. Lovely outdoor seating for summer and roaring fires to keep you warm in winter! Highly recommend a visit!

We went for dinner sitting outside on the terrace across the street. I wasn’t particularly hungry and ordered two starters instead of a main course. One was a Greek salad, the other calamari. The salad contained a lot of low-quality olives and large chunks of feta, hardly any lettuce, tomatoes and onions. The calamari I never saw. Instead they served fish goujons and insisted it was calamari. It even went back to the kitchen where the chef claimed it was a ‘different’ type of calamari. I had eaten one of them and there was no doubt it was fish goujons. The prices are inflated and the quality very poor. All in all a disappointment.

We visited Llangollen to take a trip on the canal. After walking a bit we found this restaurant in the hotel with the same name. When we entered there was nobody in the restaurant so my husband asked at the bar if the restaurant is closed or what's happening as there were cutlery on the tables and learned they start to serve from 6pm. So we waited about 10 minutes and then the lady who was at the bar took our orders. My husband ordered pork and leek sausages with mash potatoes and gravy (£ 14.25), I had lasagne with chips and salad (£ 14.50), our friends ordered liver and onion with mash potatoes (£14.50) and burger with chips and coleslaw (£ 16.50). To drink we had 2x J2O and two beers. In total we paid £72.10. Everybody was happy with the taste of food and service. We also visited the toilets which were very clean.

We have been regularly visiting The Hand at Llanarmon for 17 years now and have stayed at the hotel before. We decided to visit with friends and our dog. When we booked, we had asked not to be at a certain table in the bar area as we find it uncomfortable. We were informed we had the big table by the door. When we arrived we were told they had to move us as they had accepted a bigger party on that table and they had moved us to the very table we had requested not to be allocated. We were then offered the snug which would have easily accommodated the other larger booking but they chose to disappoint us instead. There is no atmosphere in the snug and it's a bit like sitting in a corridor near the toilets. Anyway, we proceeded to order as the food never disappoints. The mains were amazing steak pies chips and battered fish. The trout, however, was swimming in far too much butter. Then the vegetables arrived buttered carrots and summer cabbage. Unfortunatley the carrots were covered in samphire and some seeds which did not taste good together. The cabbage was worse it had sun-dried tomatoes and far too many nigella seeds or similar. Our friends were very disappointed as they were expecting buttered carrots and cabbage and didn't eat them. Desserts were OK but not a lot of choice. After telling our friends how good it was there, it was a bit embarassing that it was a bit of a mixed experience.

We are staying for 3 nights and what a lovely hotel. Our room looks out over the lovely Welsh hills and roaming sheep. Really comfy bed and great shower. Breakfast is wonderful such a wide choice, I particularly love the salmon and scrambled eggs and homemade marmalade . We’ve had dinner here every night and the food is excellent . Close enough to visit Chirk and Llangollen.

We didn't stay there but it looks as though it would be a lovely place to spend a few nights. We enjoyed beers, cider and coffee between the four of us . The open log fire was welcome on an unseasonably cold June afternoon. The inn has a calm and welcoming presence.

We had dinner at The Hand while visiting Llangollen for a couple of nights. We chose it as some of our friends were staying there. We were there for dinner on a Sunday night. We were the only people in the restaurant when we went which didn't make for very good ambience. I opted for the roast beef dinner which was fine but nothing special. My husband had the pie of the day which again was average. We may have booked a bad time as some of the food listed on the menu wasn't available. We were not impressed with the wine we chose either but that may have been a matter of taste.

A good spot in town, with a lovely breakfast and friendly staff. Unfortunately our room was below a very loud boiler/fan/something else? That periodically came on throughout the night. A bad nights sleep was had by the whole family. Staff seemed surprised, apologised, but no refund or reduction in price was given. We won't be staying here again.

We visited on a Saturday evening for a meal as a couple. The Hand is a beautiful rustic place, oozes charm and warmth both inside and outside. We received a friendly welcome from the two ladies behind the bar, ordered our dri ks and settled at a table for an hour before we went through to the restaurant. Set in a barn like space with beautiful, interesting decor, spacious but still cosy. The menu was varied with prices to cover all ranges. As someone who has had stomach surgery, I struggle when dining out but after explaining to the staff they went above and beyond to accommodate me. Having worked in hospitality myself, I fully appreciate how awkward it can be when a customer like me walks in. I cannot praise the staff and kitchen enough, they made sure I had an amazing meal. The food was incredible, both my partner and I were blown away with the quality and the presentation of our meals. Would absolutely recommend without hesitation. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Stayed here two years back and thought to stay here again when I had need to visit the area. Hotel is by the river Dee and we had a river view room which made for a very pleasant stay. The room was comfortable and had a large bathroom. Furnishings are a little dated but the hotel is situated in beautiful Llangollen and so I don't expect to have the same hotel amenity you would get from the big hotel chains like Radisson in London or other big cities. Breakfast was very good, plentiful and included in the price and the bar area is good. Staff were courteous and eager to please. There's adequate carparking in the yard of the hotel The central street of Llangollen is a short walk away and there are plenty of bars, bistros and places to eat at as well as The Hand. I would certainly stay here again if and when I revisit this lovely part of Wales.

We were recommended this for dinner by our house rental. Initially the prices on the menu don’t add up with the type of place, then you read the menu and the food sounds more fine dining- Michelin recommended! The food was delicious! Very fancy very well done tasty, elegantly presented dinner! We had a starter which was lovely! Fab bread accompanied it! For main I had lamb and my partner the pie- unlike any pie we’ve ever had! Delicious! Couldn’t squeeze in a dessert but the options were good and no doubt also amazing! Clearly a very local and friendly pub! The food didn’t fit the feel of the place and the only thing for us was the atmosphere let it down! Needed some background music or something? Instead just chatted to locals through our dinner- which don’t get me wrong was nice but it wasn’t fancy food dining. My partner described it as a little uncomfortable. This may be different as we had a dog so we’re in the bar area not the restaurant. They are very dog friendly the locals went and got treats and a water bowl!

Excellent location and the staff were very friendly and helpful thankfully because the hotel is in desperate need of a refurbish. Toilets wouldn’t flush properly either in our hotel room or the ones off the bar. Breakfast was very good but the evening restaurant meals left a lot to be desired. Liver was tough and my curry was so bland I couldn’t eat it. Such a shame as it could be a fantastic place just needs an update and a new chef.

Thoroughly disappointed with our visit. Booked this back in February for our special anniversary. Asked for a riverside room, quiet and away from main stairs. We were given room 17, right opposite the stairwell and a small pokey room. Really really disappointing when they do have much nicer room. Manager apologised and gave a discount a small discount but just not good enough. More attention needs to be given to customer requests.

This is a fairly large hotel with the hotel entrance tucked away at the end of a street off the A5. The bar entrance is on Bridge Street and internally it feels exactly like what it is, a dated hotel bar. But it’s key selling point is the outside drinking area opposite on the side of the River Dee. It’s always had a fairly decent terraced garden space out front but they have now plonked a bloody great decking on stilts over the top of it, and although a small section of the lower garden part still exists with a couple of tables this decking , equipped with its own small bar, is the place to be when the weather is fine. Only fizz taps on the decking bar but the internal bar has one hand pump that was dispensing a particularly good Conwy Brewery Clogwyn Gold. On a poor weather day, personally I wouldn’t bother with this one, but my rating reflects the fact that I had a fine afternoon and bagged a riverside table on the decking and the Clogwyn Gold was very good indeed.

Very friendly staff who were interested in where we had been during our stay. Plenty of free parking. Lovely terrace by the river. Great breakfast, only criticism was the fruit offering could have been a bit more up to date, prunes and tinned grapefruit are a bit dated. Beds were comfy and rooms cleaned every day. Great to have a bath and decent sized wardrobes. Decor is a bit chincy. The hotel has real character and history, would thoroughly recommend unless characterless modern lines are your thing!

Welcome on reception was professional but I wouldn't say that friendly , rooms were ok , comfy and fairly clean a few marks on walls etc and they could do with modernization but I stayed in worse , My Breakfast on the first morning was fine the egg was very snotty but everything else was fine , my other two mates left most of theirs as the eggs were hard as was the black pudding and the bacon looked very pale . The bar was ok and although the service was slow we didn't have to wait overly long. The large car park is a bonus as are the gardens opposite were a beer can be had while enjoying the river views. The hotel is in a good location a short stroll from the shops , bars etc and overall I would stay again.

We stopped here twice for lunch and it was excellent. There is a good choice of 'light bites', rolls and more substantial meals. All the food was cooked to perfection and well presented. There is a friendly ambience in the bar and dogs are welcome.

We went to The Hand the day before Christmas Eve. We had a warm welcome from the staff and an even warmer one from the lovely log fire. The food was fantastic, huge portions of wonderful food. Reasonably priced as well. We were staying nearby...

We went there to lunch on "pensioners' lunch day" and boy were we surprised by the quality, presentation and portion size of the food. We were not expecting a lot, but we certainly got it and will definitely go back regularly

This great Pub/Restaurant is surprisingly popular considering its remote location. When you try it for the first time you realise it is down to the good food and friendly staff. We stopped there on our way to our hotel in Llangollen, a good decision. We...

Lovely pub with excellent food. We arrived in a group of 7 adults and 3 children after my husband had just completed a sky dive for the Alzheimer's society. Even though we hadn't booked, we were seated very quickly, and the service was excellent along with the food 😀 I would definitely visit again! I would recommend you try the home made onion rings, they are amazing! Bit beware, don't order a portion each as we did, they're enormous! 🤣🤣

Seemed like a great pub with a buzzing atmosphere, and nice to see space for drinkers and not just all tables, although there was still plenty of space for diners. We visited for Sunday roast, and while service was good and food was nice, the portions were tiny. I had roast chicken and it just didn’t fill me up at all. I would rather pay an extra few quid and have a proper lunch. Sorry, but only 3 star review due to me leaving hungry.

Excellent food, excellent service and excellent setting. Staff friendly and efficient in their timings. There is also an excellent range of ales on offer. I have no hesitation in encouraging you to visit when in the area.

We had a lovely evening; we booked our table rather late in the week and the restaurant was very busy, so we were not surprised when there was a bit of a wait for our food. However, the beer was good, the staff were really nice and when the food arrived it was great. It's so nice to see some interesting dishes on the menu, rather than the ubiquitous offerings of most pubs. Gold stars to the hard-working waitress who, despite having to negotiate lots of stairs with the food orders, remained cheerful all evening. Will definitely eat there again.
