I have eaten at The Hand regularly over the last couple of years and tried everything on the menu more than once. You cannot order a bad meal, the food is simply excellent. Disappointingly I will not be returning. I decided to treat my son and his friend to an excellent meal mid bike ride, the best bit of our day. It appears if you turn up for a booking on a motorcycle the owner will be hostile and rude applying double standards. I run and own a similar business and wouldn't dream of treating a customer as I was treated today. Very unfortunate as I will really miss the excellent food.

Poor vegetarian/vegan choice - despite phoning first to check. They did swap the gravy so it was vegan but it was very lumpy/gloopy and only a small amount. The fish dish was overpriced & a tiny fillet portion, complained & another tiny portion of badly cooked sea bass was sent to the table, it was laughable especially at £20.95; the roast potatoes were cold and had obviously been re heated badly - burnt on the outside (we were the first evening sitting); the meat roast beef, was tough. The wine by the glass was awful. Overall one of the worst meals we have had. Won’t ever go back!

When I went in I didn't need to book for a hotel room I just needed to use the bathroom from being on the road most the day. The only thing wrong with the bathrooms was that when you walked in, you could walk through a doorway and it would lead outside so anybody could break in at any moment. The wicks were really small and the bathroom door locks were a bit broken so it wouldn't lock and when I got it to lock it wouldn't open again.

We have been regularly visiting The Hand at Llanarmon for 17 years now and have stayed at the hotel before. We decided to visit with friends and our dog. When we booked, we had asked not to be at a certain table in the bar area as we find it uncomfortable. We were informed we had the big table by the door. When we arrived we were told they had to move us as they had accepted a bigger party on that table and they had moved us to the very table we had requested not to be allocated. We were then offered the snug which would have easily accommodated the other larger booking but they chose to disappoint us instead. There is no atmosphere in the snug and it's a bit like sitting in a corridor near the toilets. Anyway, we proceeded to order as the food never disappoints. The mains were amazing steak pies chips and battered fish. The trout, however, was swimming in far too much butter. Then the vegetables arrived buttered carrots and summer cabbage. Unfortunatley the carrots were covered in samphire and some seeds which did not taste good together. The cabbage was worse it had sun-dried tomatoes and far too many nigella seeds or similar. Our friends were very disappointed as they were expecting buttered carrots and cabbage and didn't eat them. Desserts were OK but not a lot of choice. After telling our friends how good it was there, it was a bit embarassing that it was a bit of a mixed experience. Back again lovely table we had requested and asked for veg plain. Excellent meal staff were really good and helpful.

From being greeted at the door by a lovely gentleman who got us a drink, to then being seated by one of the ladies working there. Nothing was a bother to any of them and they were extremely friendly. The food was absolutely perfect, extremely tasty. I had a vegetarian burger which isn’t normally my go to but it was absolutely amazing. My wife’s food was delicious too. We went for dinner sitting outside on the terrace across the street. I wasn’t particularly hungry and ordered two starters instead of a main course. One was a Greek salad, the other calamari. The salad contained a lot of low-quality olives and large chunks of feta, hardly any lettuce, tomatoes and onions. The calamari I never saw. Instead they served fish goujons and insisted it was calamari. It even went back to the kitchen where the chef claimed it was a ‘different’ type of calamari. I had eaten one of them and there was no doubt it was fish goujons. The prices are inflated and the quality very poor. All in all a disappointment.

We visited Llangollen to take a trip on the canal. After walking a bit we found this restaurant in the hotel with the same name. When we entered there was nobody in the restaurant so my husband asked at the bar if the restaurant is closed or what's happening as there were cutlery on the tables and learned they start to serve from 6pm. So we waited about 10 minutes and then the lady who was at the bar took our orders. My husband ordered pork and leek sausages with mash potatoes and gravy (£ 14.25), I had lasagne with chips and salad (£ 14.50), our friends ordered liver and onion with mash potatoes (£14.50) and burger with chips and coleslaw (£ 16.50). To drink we had 2x J2O and two beers. In total we paid £72.10. Everybody was happy with the taste of food and service. We also visited the toilets which were very clean.

We had dinner at The Hand while visiting Llangollen for a couple of nights. We chose it as some of our friends were staying there. We were there for dinner on a Sunday night. We were the only people in the restaurant when we went which didn't make for very good ambience. I opted for the roast beef dinner which was fine but nothing special. My husband had the pie of the day which again was average. We may have booked a bad time as some of the food listed on the menu wasn't available. We were not impressed with the wine we chose either but that may have been a matter of taste.

We visited on a Saturday evening for a meal as a couple. The Hand is a beautiful rustic place, oozes charm and warmth both inside and outside. We received a friendly welcome from the two ladies behind the bar, ordered our dri ks and settled at a table for an hour before we went through to the restaurant. Set in a barn like space with beautiful, interesting decor, spacious but still cosy. The menu was varied with prices to cover all ranges. As someone who has had stomach surgery, I struggle when dining out but after explaining to the staff they went above and beyond to accommodate me. Having worked in hospitality myself, I fully appreciate how awkward it can be when a customer like me walks in. I cannot praise the staff and kitchen enough, they made sure I had an amazing meal. The food was incredible, both my partner and I were blown away with the quality and the presentation of our meals. Would absolutely recommend without hesitation. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Stayed here two years back and thought to stay here again when I had need to visit the area. Hotel is by the river Dee and we had a river view room which made for a very pleasant stay. The room was comfortable and had a large bathroom. Furnishings are a little dated but the hotel is situated in beautiful Llangollen and so I don't expect to have the same hotel amenity you would get from the big hotel chains like Radisson in London or other big cities. Breakfast was very good, plentiful and included in the price and the bar area is good. Staff were courteous and eager to please. There's adequate carparking in the yard of the hotel The central street of Llangollen is a short walk away and there are plenty of bars, bistros and places to eat at as well as The Hand. I would certainly stay here again if and when I revisit this lovely part of Wales.

We were recommended this for dinner by our house rental. Initially the prices on the menu don’t add up with the type of place, then you read the menu and the food sounds more fine dining- Michelin recommended! The food was delicious! Very fancy very well done tasty, elegantly presented dinner! We had a starter which was lovely! Fab bread accompanied it! For main I had lamb and my partner the pie- unlike any pie we’ve ever had! Delicious! Couldn’t squeeze in a dessert but the options were good and no doubt also amazing! Clearly a very local and friendly pub! The food didn’t fit the feel of the place and the only thing for us was the atmosphere let it down! Needed some background music or something? Instead just chatted to locals through our dinner- which don’t get me wrong was nice but it wasn’t fancy food dining. My partner described it as a little uncomfortable. This may be different as we had a dog so we’re in the bar area not the restaurant. They are very dog friendly the locals went and got treats and a water bowl!

Excellent location and the staff were very friendly and helpful thankfully because the hotel is in desperate need of a refurbish. Toilets wouldn’t flush properly either in our hotel room or the ones off the bar. Breakfast was very good but the evening restaurant meals left a lot to be desired. Liver was tough and my curry was so bland I couldn’t eat it. Such a shame as it could be a fantastic place just needs an update and a new chef.

This is a fairly large hotel with the hotel entrance tucked away at the end of a street off the A5. The bar entrance is on Bridge Street and internally it feels exactly like what it is, a dated hotel bar. But it’s key selling point is the outside drinking area opposite on the side of the River Dee. It’s always had a fairly decent terraced garden space out front but they have now plonked a bloody great decking on stilts over the top of it, and although a small section of the lower garden part still exists with a couple of tables this decking , equipped with its own small bar, is the place to be when the weather is fine. Only fizz taps on the decking bar but the internal bar has one hand pump that was dispensing a particularly good Conwy Brewery Clogwyn Gold. On a poor weather day, personally I wouldn’t bother with this one, but my rating reflects the fact that I had a fine afternoon and bagged a riverside table on the decking and the Clogwyn Gold was very good indeed.

Great breakfast, only criticism was the fruit offering could have been a bit more up to date, prunes and tinned grapefruit are a bit dated. Beds were comfy and rooms cleaned every day. Great to have a bath and decent sized wardrobes. Decor is a bit chincy. The hotel has real character and history, would thoroughly recommend unless characterless modern lines are your thing!

The bar was ok and although the service was slow we didn't have to wait overly long. The large car park is a bonus as are the gardens opposite were a beer can be had while enjoying the river views. Very good food and nice service but it took a long time for our main course to arrive. Maybe this was because it was a Saturday afternoon. Despite this, we would still return

This is a very welcoming, family run pub. We ate here on a couple of occasions and the food was great. Dog friendly as well, so what's not to like?
