The Hand Post Hotel in Newport

I love this pub… outside in the summer is lovely full of locals and cold Madri! My friend who comes from Dorset loves it here because of the staff. They’re so lovely and friendly.. wanna say a special thank you to the gorgeous Hayden who is always accommodating and smiley and to see him close a pub!!????( I’m ex bar manager) I would employ him in a second! He’s efficient and energetic… amazing guy and brilliant staff x x. Lush place x x x. From Sally and David. The Madri pinters!

Fabulous local pub. Great food,drinks and service. Couldn't ask for a better local! Staff are super friendly and cater to any dietary needs. Just let them know when ordering.

Great food, great beer, great prices

Great blues band and brilliant atmosphere....

Bar staff were slow to respond and disinterested. The Beer was good and reasonably priced.

Had sunday lunch there last Sunday well worth the visit everything was excellent!!! Would do it again!

Stopped in here for a small drink on the way home. Lovely place and the staff are lovely. Only reason for the three stars is the smell of the toilets. The toilets look lovely but the stench is beyond belief. This really needs addressing as this let the pub down completely

Great place for a local pub, definitely improved in recent times but the Sunday dinner isn’t the best but fingers crossed they sort it out like the rest of the place, the only way is up !!

Long established pub in Newport. Sport shown on big screens, food is good on menu as well.

Disappointed as missed feeding time but nice bar. Like the decor and staff friendly. Room for slight improvement with meal times. Or snacks offered. Tapas would be good👍

Really friendly young manager who was great fun and accommodating and lovely bar staff who helped us out. Great range of beers and Guinness poured to perfection so we could play Guinness golf 😀. Lovely decor and atmosphere. We were too late to order food - apologies for the mess left on the table.😞.

Since the pub opened the upstairs which use to be to be the home of the landlords they now have a contract with whom I not sure of but they accomdate addicts and people who leave prision also people who are a danger to the public until there housed this has now changed the pub completely I don't feel comfortable there any more not only that the locals don't make you feel welcome so consequenty this is a massive red flag sad how things change also 1 start rated clearly sighed by the windows as you go in avoid this pub I wouldn't take my family herë

Phenomenal New Years party, superb food excellent quality and value for money, staff go above and beyond such a friendly family atmosphere we were made really welcome. Cannot praise the staff enough. Superbly run clean and good value for money what mote could you want

I was last in here in about 1989. Has it changed?

We were looking for a bite to eat and a nice relaxing atmosphere to enjoy on a cold Saturday afternoon and we weren’t disappointed. We both had the double cheese and bacon burger and shared a cheesy garlic bread. The burgers were fresh and were definitely not from frozen, the bacon was the same. The chips were fantastic and fried fresh. A lovely pint of Guinness too, all at a very reasonable £34 for both us including a drink. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Fantastic place for a drink with lots of amenities and fast food places near by. Small car park. Excellent selection of alcohol. Clean venue and friendly staff. Quiz is on every Thursday though in my opinion it is catered for the over 40/50s, still really good fun. It has recently been renovated so it looks even better than it did before. Definitely recommend.

Only Green King in Newport worth visiting, friendly staff, cosy atmosphere and we always stop after work, and it seems they keep their regulars happy on one side of bar, and other side more family and couple friendly. Nice larger although real ale range could be improved

Five of us had a very enjoyable lunch. We even ordered things not on the menu! Excellent value too. Redecorated recently as well.

Had a wonderful lunch today at the Hand Post.

I have visited this place twice and on each occasion it's been outstanding. Very clean and roomy excellent food wide variety of drinks. The staff were outstanding and made me feel very welcome. Table service was outstanding. Highly recommended

I didn't stay there ,but dined in once & had tea & soft drinks twice . The staff were friendly ,but poor selections of vegan/ vegetarian foods .The vegan curry w/ fake meat was very nice ,but no veggies in it at all !! So,it was lacking of nutritious ! If they added carrots / peas in it the least ,it would had been excellent !! I had a waffle there ,too & it was delicious. The toilet was clean . I went there as my childhood friend( my 1st boyfriend & his dad )used to stay there sometimes ,I was hoping to get some information on his dad ,but I didn't get much of help. The owners changed . I was told. But ,since my late soulmate became a celebrity & a local hero ,I thought some of them would know !The bar & outdoor seating area ( tables/ benches ) looked busy & locals / regulars were having good times there !! Be aware of no food servings on Sundays !! But,you can bring your own food & eat it there as long as you order/ buy a drink there ! I really liked the decorations & window side tables ( booth ) !There are 3 bus stops right by this Inn / pub so that I'm sure many tourists / people find it very convenient as I did ! You have to raise your hand or wave at bus drivers ,otherwise they won't stop ( only a couple did ,but the most didn't )!! A very good place to stop by on your way to ,or way back from St.Woolos cemetery. Which is a gorgeous cemetery, btw.!!

Had a lovely day at the hand Post on Sunday for my nans 70th birthday. Stunning Sunday lunch everything you could ask for including all the trimmings. Was a lovely family friendly pub and will definitely be visiting this establishment again soon. Very good prices and grate food also very clean and tidy 5 star review. X

Lovely pub, lovely room and resolved a slight issue with the heating straight away with no hesitation and upgraded our room which we were very thanful for. Lovely friendly traditional pub. Outstanding service by all they staff. Fantastic Sunday lunches., dog friendly in the bar. Big beer garden. Real ales on tap. Large bottles of prosecco for ladies that love prosecco. ❤❤❤❤❤

Went to the Handpost midweek for food and had a lovely evening with friends.

Excellent Hotel for food and drink I only gave it four stars because it has a small car park.

Been done up since i was last there. Food and beer was good and friendly staff.

Great Sunday Dinner as well as a well stocked bar. Some car parking but a very busy part of town.

Second visit to the Hand post Hotel and have to say lovely establishment clean cosy and inviting with a nice open fire, friendly staff and a good selection of food on offer from rolls to full meals and a selection of offers like two for £12, portions are large for the price and all well presented. We Will definitely be having lunch here more often with it being so close to the hospital, but a lovely place to stop off any time your passing or in the area. There is one down side to the hand post hotel and thats the parking, unfortunately only a small car park to the rear but if your lucky you’ll get a space because it’s definitely worth it.

Nice pub, good food, welcoming atmosphere

First visit to the Handpost for a few years but certainly won't be the last. Everything was spot-on, friendly staff, quick service and the food was absolutely great, generous portions and cooked to perfection. Best pub meal we've had in years. Good choice on beers and lagers, reasonably priced. The owner (Nicky I think) came over for a chat and was really nice. Will be going back to try the Sunday roast, can't wait!.

Ordered food came to us very cold and chips under cooked. Garlic bread burnt and hard very dry if I could upload picture of how burnt it was I would. Anyway none came to ask if everything was OK so I went to ask for new food. The food was taken away and NEVER returned GOT PROOF OF THIS anyway the manager came to our table told us the food was cooked just right and soft and it was meant to be crispy. She was the only staff member who didn't agree with me as the other staff said it was very burnt and that they was sorry. Anyway 45 mins later and being ignored still waiting for our food to be returned it never was. Considering we had paid for our meal we was robbed of our meal and our money this place needs to be reported. I am a disabled young girl with not much money and the treatment was shameful and disgusting I will report this place for robbing a disabled person of her money I'm very upset about this as I have special needs and I asked for help and was ignored and badly discrimination against I'm sorry to say this bad review but to let other people know if you pay for your food don't say anything bad about food as you will be bullied by the lady manager.. Another customer was there and is a witness to all this and they was disgusted by my treatment. I'm sure the lady will reply to this in a I don't really care way. I would like my money back for what was taken from us. I won't let this go people with disabilities need to be treated with respect like everyone else Thank you

My local. Its a 15 minute walk and I enjoy the walk before a nice pint. Friendly and staff are nice. Have not tried the food yet.

No Strongbow dark fruit or Carling Black fruit - resorted to Thatcher's Gold which tasted sour - band awful - little wonder the pub was surprisingly empty for a Saturday night.

Love this place posted to their page about how amazing towie service was, went back there last Sunday the food was beautiful, their dedication to looking after those with Celiac is awesome! So much so I've booked to go again this weekend

Normally good food but was not toast potatoes over cooked.not enough veg had to ask for more.must of changed chef since Christmas.

Me and my wife waited by the bar from 25 past 2 then to be told at 2.31pm that we stop serving food at 2.30pm,we pointed out that we were waiting from 2.30 pm we,then finally at 3.15 pm when our food came it was not what we ordered.
