Myself and my husband visited this lovely pub today for Sunday lunch. We were greeted very warmly, and the very efficient and very friendly service continued throughout our meal. We had beef and pork, and the quality and taste was excellent! The wine and beer selection was also very good. This was the best Sunday lunch we have had in a long time! I would definitely recommend and return

Sunday lunch, couldn’t fault the food. Hadn’t eaten there before so was impressed with the food. My only complaint…….. dogs, or dog laid and stood on the table top. Staff stroked it and continued to serve behind the bar, with out washing their hands. I don’t disagree with having dogs in pubs, but laid across the table that people eat off, now I do disagree with that. Hygiene by the staff after touching these dogs needs to be looked at

We visited today for Sunday lunch and again we were not disappointed. There was a choice of 3 meats and it was served with potatoes, veg and Yorkshire pudding. An additional jug of gravy was provided which was a nice touch. The food was beautifully cooked and served hot! Our daughter, who is vegetarian, had the winter vegetable pie which she said was delicious and came with all the Sunday dinner trimmings. The service was efficient and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. The surroundings are pleasant, overlooking the duck pond. A really lovely afternoon and I would definitely recommend.

We’ve just had a really nice family tea here. The staff were just lovely and were great with our two children. For me in particular, I have coeliac disease and a dairy intolerance and even Michelin star restaurants I’ve eaten in haven’t been able to accommodate for me. So what a change to have a chef who knew what he was talking about and who was prepared for someone like me. Usually my dietary needs mean a compromise on taste but not here! I am one happy, full lady! It’s been a long time since I’ve had a parmo or apple crumble. My husband was also VERY happy with his parmo and moretti beer :)

Visited for lunch last week and found the place very welcoming indeed. It's a quirky place that, along with the food offerings caters for real ale fans too.Food was cooked to order and arrived in good time with plentiful portions... I had a chicken stir-fry and partner a halloumi burger... I saw someone having nachos and they looked great too.Apparently the Parmos are pretty good too, so I'll have to return for one of those!Well worth a visit and we will be back.

The Hambletonian is so easy to miss as it is not well advertised. Once my friend and I found the front door we were in for a warm cosy welcome. A great choice of foods and we were both keen to try the beef stew and herb dumplings. Absolutely fabulous!!!!! After a couple of glasses of wine and a good old chat we then tried the sticky toffee pudding. I had ice cream with mine but as my friend couldn't decide, the chef offered custard, ice cream AND cream! Such friendly staff, reasonable prices. We will definitely be going back. It is right opposite the duck pond.

This is the third time we've visited this place to have a drink and dine. This was the third time that drinks were off that we wanted and as for the wine; that was a disgrace. Half a dozen bottles in a fridge with dregs in. Absolutely diabolical. Who manages this place? They need a talking to by the owners. The couple we were out with had to drink coke with their meal! We've reviewed this place before citing the same problems but no one is listening. If it stays like this it will go out of business soon. And as for the food, well average. My El Diablo hot shot parmo was very under spiced and served with 7 chips. No heat whatsoever. Burgers were average but not averagely priced. I would advise diners who want a choice of drinks with their meal, especially wine, not to go here as they will be disappointed. And serving soda in expensive little bottles. What's that all about. One last thing. Tell the young lad at the counter to smile. He was so miserable when he served at our table. What more can I say....a total disaster. Thanks Hambletonian

The place was easy to find and free parking out the front. This place was recommended to us, however it sounds like a different experience. We asked about the specials to be told there was none, the menu was limited (but it is a small establishment) and the menu is different to what is displayed online (Quanadoo). I ordered the burger it was raw, staff not intrested in feedback and just removed the plate, no customer service and very disappointing - i am not looking for compensation or a free meal but acknowledgement would have been nice! I will not be returning or recommending this place

We didn’t book a table as we decided to go for food last minute on a Friday evening.. the place is tiny so we had to wait around 15-20 minutes for a table, we didn’t mind. There isn’t much selection in regards to soft drinks, just what’s in the fridge. Staff were nice & friendly, could see there were some regulars in there! One negative point about our visit was the wait for food - we had to wait over 50 minutes for two parmos! The food was nice though, home cooked chips with salad and garlic mayo. Would return but not on a Friday night, hopefully won’t have to wait as long.

This is a small pub which serves very good food in its upstairs room (not sure about wheelchair access). I guess the kitchen doesn't have the facility to cook haute cuisine but they have a truly interesting, eclectic range of burgers although my wife and I didn't have those; my wife had the salmon salad, I had the steak and ale pie (individual) and we both had the sticky toffee pudding for afters. I went twice in a few days, once the beer was unavailable due to no chiller working on the draught. It meant bottles only, much more expensive! Another was a Saturday night with lines being cleaned - who in their right mind cleans lines on a Saturday night? The food was as good as ever, unfortunately the smell on your clothes leaving was there all night. I know there are issues with kitchen ventilation, but I think it needs looking at again. Went to the Hambletonian with a few friends after reading they had 2 for £10 cocktails on over the weekend. I was a little skeptical at first, as i know they have been focussing on food much more recently rather than drinks but boy was i wrong. Me and my friends worked our way through the small (but perfectly formed) cocktail menu, and i must say they are certainly value for money - even at their regular price of £6.95. The food looked gorgeous but we were moving on too quickly to be able to sample any! We will be back very soon! Bar staff were lovely and accommodating and the whole atmosphere was welcoming.

Called for lunch today. Both had parmos, one was with bacon and blue cheese sauce and the other a traditional parmo. The chicken was thick and moist,( not flattened to within an inch of its life to make it look bigger, but which ends up with dry meat) and both sauces absolutely delicious. Came with wedges and salad and a delicious garlic mayonnaise. Unless you have a big appetite I would say the half parmo is more than adequate. The bistro has a nice location on the first floor overlooking the duck pond, and the staff were friendly and efficient. Will definitely be returning.

Visited before Christmas and booked a table. The bar is really small, think micro pub, so there are limited tables for diners which is why it's best to book. There were lots of people waiting to be served drinks and only one person serving so took a while for us to be seated and then even longer for her to come and take our drink and food order. They had ran out of what we chose to order and really only had specials left. When the food arrived though it was lovely and reasonably priced. Overall it's probably better as a pub than a restaurant due to the size and lack of staff, but i would return.

The man who greeted us recalled our booking instantly and was consistently friendly and helpful throughout our meal. Have been to this pub so many times, thought it was about time to write a review. Not only does this pub have a nice selection of draught beer/lager, it also never fails to have tasty hand pulls, a lovely selection of gins and a great variety of foreign and UK craft beers. The food is also phenomenal, having had both a burger and a parmo there before and being impressed with the price in relation to the quality. The chips are homemade and the best that you can get in a pub in the area. All of these factors, coupled with how lovely the staff are as they can't seem to do enough for you, makes the Hambletonian my favourite pub in norton. Had lunch here today using a Groupon voucher for 2 parmesans. The meal was quite good, nice chips, not too big a parmo and salad.I last visited the place when it was King's. The room upstairs is very small and the tables are huge. There are also 3 high tables for 4 with high bar stools, not easy to get onto if you are elderly or slightly infirm.I personally don't like the new decor, the stripped brick wall is ok, but the bar has been cobbled together using various sizes of wood just nailed on top of each other. The waitress was efficient and quite friendly.

Visited here on a Groupon voucher for two parmos. Now I really do enjoy a good parmos once in a while and have been served some really good ones, but these were the best I have tasted in years. The food was superb cooked really well and served piping hot. I hate to much bechamel sauce on a parmo but this had just the right amount with chicken that is locally bought and nice and thick and juicy. The homemade chips were also really nicely cooked in their skins to a lovely golden brown and light and fluffy. The young waitress was really very good at her work ensuring your meal was enjoyable and that you had everything you required. She also had a really good knowledge of the places history and she kept me spellbound with her stories of the pubs past history. The only fault with the place is its to smal and can only serve about 30 people in total, but it is lovely and rustic with some really old items on display.Although the menu is not extensive this is one place that I will highly recommend to anyone wanting great food, great drinks (proper Coke served from a bottle and not the horrible stuff you get from a pump), great ambience and great staff to go, but book first because they can get really busy.

I'm Norton born and bred and was keen to visit the new hostelry. The outside is I'm afraid a little discouraging and in need of decoration. Inside is eclectic and quite small (the gents toilet needs both a handle and lock). We ordered food and were told they were waiting the chef to arrive (2.00.pm. on a Saturday) and then said we would settle for a sandwich but were told they were awaiting their delivery. However to acknowledge this they did give us a £15 gift voucher and given the average sandwich price seems to be £4.99 this was very generous. The service and choice of ales was very good.I am disappointed to have to wrote this review because they are obviously really trying, but I think they need to decide what their target audience is. From my point of view the ales on offer and the ambiance suggests a good "lads" pub. My wife however was less than impressed with the surroundings.I will visit again but with "pals" rather than my wife.

We visited the Hambletonian on a Thursday night, the facility wasn't overly busy but certainly had a number of clearly happy clientele. The drinks were served in glasses appropriate to the drinks requested and the food was served in a time expected of freshly cooked food and not pre-prepared food as found in lesser type facilities. The service was absolutely outstanding, in fact so much so that we would return for that alone, the staff were extremely tentative and nothing requested was any trouble to the staff whatsoever.Had the person who gave such a negative review regarding a cocktail had spoken to the staff on the night, I'm almost certain it would have been sorted on the night in question. We will return, next time in a taxi so we can enjoy more of the amazing beers that you have on display.Thank you.

As we live very locally, we thought we would take a look at this new business and call in for a drink. Although they sell a good choice of Real Ale, the cocktails fall flat! The one we bought was not in a proper cocktail glass; nor was it presented with any usual cocktail 'adornments'- no paper parasol, fruit or anything! We were charged £6.00 for it and were very disappointed. It was bought for a birthday treat so we wouldn't have minded the price if it was worth it. Won't be going in there again!

We've not eaten here but it's absolutely lovely for a quiet drink as a couple or small group. Staff are friendly and beer and wine are good. A welcome new addition to Norton village.

Visited The Hambletonian for Christmas Lunch in December and it was excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food was superb. There is a good selection of drinks, with guest ales and the bar is nicely decorated and has a warm and welcoming feel to it with lots of natural wood furniture. There is parking on site and on the roadside nearby and it is closely situated to the town for other amenities. The bar has various entertainment and regular events throughout the year and is well worth a visit as a change from the norm.

Food and drink all very beautifully presented, lovely atmosphere created by the decor and friendly staff, provides fab entertainment such as musicians from near and far which I always thoroughly enjoy attending. Set in a brilliant location just off Norton High Street overlooking the picturesque village pond, this is a bar not to be missed if you're just passing by, and if you're a local, prepare to become a regular!

Lovely little war time themed cafe. Fantastic atmosphere and great staff. Food is delicious, everything freshly made. Would highly recommend, especially for history buffs. Second time this week for us. I’d suggest you get there early as they sell out fast on most items.
