We booked a table for 4 late on a sunny Sunday lunchtime in June. Truly superb food, staff were cheerful and well organised. Thank you!

First time at this pub, found on day out. Had simple ham, egg & chips, with pint, wife same but wine. Very nice host, surprised at cost of H, E, Chips but that is the price nowadays.

From making the initial booking to paying the bill - amazing customer service! We booked a table for 16 plus an infant to celebrate our step-dad’s 90th Birthday. Had never been here before but was looking for a venue that was in the “middle” for us all! Food is amazing and the service second to none - nothing was too much trouble! We had a really special time at The Half Moon - thank you so much! Would 100% recommend and we will return.

I spent my 60th. Birthday having a wonderful lunch in this outstanding pub. Jamie the Landlord and his team could not have made me more welcome. I am not the ideal customer, I brought 2 wet spaniels and I am a vegan, but was so well looked after - lots of food choices (all good) and even treats for the dogs. This is my favourite pub, and I will be back again next year.

Lovely little country pub with great craft beer and food. The best sticky toffee pudding I ever had! The apple pudding & clotted cream was also delicious! Looking forward to returning there!

After a day at Nymans we decided to eat lunch out and we went around and ended up at this lovely pub which had an amazing atmosphere , felt like a pub in the early 1900s which added to it. Tables are wooden the decor is brilliant. Staff were very friendly and although it was fully booked they were so happy to help us and the food was amazing ,totally recommend this place

The title says it all. It had been raining a lot. It was cozy and atmospheric inside. The bars were busy but the restaurant less so. The menu was varied and pub reasonable in price. The service was attentive, polite and helpful. The food - fish, chips, and garden peas came served nicely hot on warm plates and was delicious.

I visited this place for a lunch get-together with two former work colleagues. Good food and good conversation.

The food is good but the owner/manager is a bit weird. What really gets me is the one toilet cubicle for the men and it smells terrible, not even 1 urinal. I can't believe a pub of that size can get away with it. I won't go back until I hear it's sorted.

Called in lunchtime midweek for lunch & a beer. The ale we chose had passed its best & gone off (that happens of course, I've been drinking the stuff for 50 years) but on quietly mentioning it, the landlord - if it was he, rather than just changing our beer, went to the tap as though he disbelieved me, poured some , tasted it & said "you're right" as if surprised. His barman then offered a different beer. Maybe I'm being precious, but I don't expect treatment like that. Then, checking the receipt at home , saw that we were charged 10% service, which whilst clearly on the receipt as optional, wasn't mentioned to us at the till. Fish & chips was ok. Will not be returning.

Six of us (plus dog) came here for a birthday meal, which also happened to fall on Easter Sunday. The food was excellent and the portions generous. Service was swift and faultless. The landlord in particular is great fun and absolutely made our visit. Nothing was too much trouble. He made us feel so welcome and even gave us a brief history of the village, along with some tips for our stay. We are so grateful to him for the kindness and hospitality he showed us. I hope one day we can return to this smashing little gem. Thank you again.

That was an unexpected surprise on our way to London from Brighton. We came off the motorway and found the pub . The food, service and atmosphere was lovely.

My review is quite simple. This is my favourite pub in Sussex. Me, my wife and dogs have always had the warmest welcome, excellent food and a pint of Harveys. I am so glad this wonderful hostelry has survived the pandemic.

Had a nice beer here today, whilst walking past and in the area. Had a nice beer selection, not tonnes on offer, but enough to satisfy, had a nice Harvey’s Sussex Best. Bar staff were friendly and chatty. Pub is in a quiet location, almost didn’t know if it was open from the front, but nice and cosy inside. We had our drinks in the back garden which was a lovely little sun trap. Amble seating.

Visiting the area this was recommended because of great liver and bacon, which my partner loves, and it certainly was. Also a generous portion. A lovely "country" pub but not 5 stars from me because of four issues. Firstly, my own venison cottage pie was a rather meagre portion of a great tasting dish. Second, to get in from the car park you have to walk back onto the road to get to the front. This badly needs a car park entrance. Third, the toilets are not actually outside but might as well be as far as the temperature goes - heaven knows what that experience is like in mid winter. Lastly, the 'gentleman' apparently in charge was less than friendly (we were complete strangers) and even turned away whilst I was still talking to him!

I love the atmosphere and the location. I’ll always have a Harvey’s after a visit to the nearby woods and sometimes I will eat too. Scrumpy and often game in season.

Sat in garden of a pub that looked unloved, dismal and run down, due to only pub in that area that still had a table. Steak and Chips were excellent, Cheeseboard was average (a bit pricey for them to use Jacobs crackers ) Unispiring choise of beers, ipa came out warm and lagers restricted to only Heineken and Budweiser Little bald man (manager?) refused to take the order for desert whilst he was walking around outside doing not a lot then they have the audacity to slap a 10% service on- I thought only proper restaurants did that, especially ones with table service. This pub should be brought by a brewery or Rob who has transformed the Jolly Sportsman and The sloop,

We had such a good family meal here. It felt efficient but there was also really good attention to detail with the food and the service was friendly.

My family and I got stuck in the neighbourhood outside the opening hours of The Half Moon. They helped us, sheltered us, and refused any payment. We were blown away by the sincere kindness.

Food was acceptable but a bit expensive for pub grub. It did come out hot. I sat facing the windows and door leading to the patio. The windows and frames look as though they have never been washed. Drinks splattered all over the paintwork. Not pleasant to look at whilst eating. As the manager was in and out of the patio I failed to understand how this could be missed. General cleanliness poor, sticky tables, missing skirtings and grubby decor. Needs a thorough deep clean and decorating.

Wonderful gastro pub, run by family that can't do enough for their guests

Had a fab meal on Friday evening.... Lovely to see the Pub busy but not uncomfortably so.. We caught up with friends and all thought the food was excellent.... Penny was smiley and serene and the service was seamless.......Jamie was just Jamie....on good form and enjoying a busy pub.....remember to take your muddy boots off and he'll remain that way! They never grumbled when they had to move us to another table because I forgot to mention the dog was with us and we were a bit slow and indecisive too. Always have a good evening when we go.....and the garden's looking lovely.

We went there the day after boxing staff and was disgusted by the attitude and general Rudeness of the land lord behind the bar. Since there was 12 of us he has just lost all of out business and we will NEVER be returning! STAY WILL CLEAR

I had the fish an chips tasteless and the fish was small and not many chips. And the man behind the bar seemed stressed and unhappy

After a good 6 mile morning walk, was nice to come to this lovely old pub.6 of us had excellent quality food and service. Your coffee is one of the best tasting...strong and nutty. I will recommend to friends. Thank you for our pleasant lunchtime !!

My 1st visit back in some years and it didnt disappoint. Seafood main was delish, a generous bowl full of tastiness + sides and the deserts are so pretty. Good wine, comfortable outside tables, lovely garden and really great service. Thanks Half Moon, we'll be back soon

Having not been to this pub for a long time we were totally disappointed with it on every respect when we went for dinner on Friday 16 July. Inexperienced, disinterested junior waiting staff working for a Landlord that came across as arrogant and not at all customer focused. The decor inside the pub was grubby and tired with dangerous floor boards lifting and trip hazard signs. Food was mediocre at best pub grub without much variety/choice. Beer choice also not very inspiring. Totally underwhelming experience and very disappointing as this used to be a great pub. Would not recommend or return sadly.

Another great meal here. Interesting menu, well cooked food, good value. Really good for vegetarians. This has been our go to place over the past year and it’s never disappointed. Lots of tables outside as well.

I was cycling by there today and felt a little dizzy. Went in to just grab something to get me going and they got me to go sit down brought me a big coke, a banana and a whole jug of water. Wouldn’t even let me pay! I’ll definitely go out of my way to have a meal there soon. Thanks! Absolute class!

Good service good beer and good food.

Returned to see if anything has improved. The food is well presented but does not warrant the prices. The crab cake was more like a potato cake inside, but the outside was nice and crispy. The prawns arrived with in a pool of oil which leaked over to the arugula (?). The service was very good. A note to management, - your outside picnic table (furthest from entrance) has rough wood on the bench. It completely ruined my trousers by chaffing and pulling at the material. Please sand down so other customers don't have this happen to them. Disappointed that we were required to sit in the cold, outside seating area when the pub was almost empty. We were informed that the indoor area is reserved for diners only. However, it appeared that "locals" were granted entry immediately. What a shame that an historical pub like this doesn't care about people who don't live in the village.

When we arrived at the pub during lockdown the front door was open so we masked up and went in to see if we could get some service outside the pub, (this was during lockdown). We were met by someone with the words "what are you doing, you can't be in here, have you booked?" we explianed that there wasn't a 'No entry' sign on the door and we were summarily ushered outside whereupon he was keen to take our order and subsequently our money. We only stayed because we had walked miles to get there and there are no alternative pubs nearby. Of course, today, just over a week later we could have walked in with impunity. We won't be back.

Being a well-travelled person, who’s favourite hobby is eating and drinking, I was absolutely blown away by many aspects of the Half Moon in Warninglid. From the moment we made our lunch reservation we as a family were very impressed. Upon arrival, it was apparent that all COVID-19 regulations were being adhered to which gave us an extreme amount of comfort. The landlord approached us upon entry with charm and charisma. A few minutes later he introduced us to his lovely wife, which initially left us gossiping between ourselves as to why. We established later, after further chatting that his wife, Penny, has a horse and they ‘clocked’ our kids equestrian clothing and took a ‘family’ approach to our visit……they certainly know how to read their audience and the service was very bespoke thereafter – sterling work! We only planned to have a bar snack until we saw the garden and menu – 3 courses later, coupled with ‘top of class’ coffee to finish we made another booking for the following week. It’s rare to find an establishment such as this whereby you immediately feel welcomed as one of the family, albeit a socially distanced one. It’s a little way to travel for us but it’s well worth it.

Had such a nice meal at The Half Moon last night that I felt I should share it! First meal out after lockdown, the duck breast was truly amazing as was the calves liver. I gather the sea bass was equally good. Well done Jamie and Penny for surviving covid restrictions!

Highest standards still prevail. Original and delicious food as always. We had another wonder evening here and all four of us left very happy as we always do. Well done Chef. Clever dishes that you don’t always find elsewhere: love a bit of originality.

We have been going to the Half Moon at Warninglid for the past 10 years or more and have always been made to feel most welcome. The food has always been to a high standard and the service good. The atmosphere has always been convivial and fireplaces lit to make it cosy and welcoming. The owner and his wife have always kept The Half Moon at a high quality in all aspects.

Turned up for a drink outdoors, made our way to the entrance as instructed by clear sign on gate. Met abruptly by I assume the landlord, to be told "nah, too many of you." Noticed he had assumed we were in a big group as there was a group walking up behind us. I said it was just the two of us and explained we were only after drinks outdoors, by which point he'd completely ignored us and moved on. Attitude was really off, rude and unwelcoming so we took our custom elsewhere. I would rate one star based on the customer service experience alone, but it otherwise looked a nice place but that that guy really does need some training on how to treat people.

Four of us had a most enjoyable lunch here. My seabass fillet was delicious and served with a chorizo risotto was very filling. Also has a large garden and plenty of parking.

Sat out in the garden for a pint of Harvey's and a sandwich. Very enjoyable in that peaceful place. Pub manager was very careful with the Covid restrictions and controls which was reassuring. Nice old pub.

This pub has a good reputation locally so I was looking forward to our Sunday lunch. However the food for our party of 6 was almost cold. The quality of the beef sirloin was very average and for those who appreciate gravy, there was very little. The puddings were an improvement. The landlord was clearly exasperated by the Covid related restrictions (although I must point out that the pub appeared to adhere to all of these correctly) and people's inability to adhere to them, which as a senior nurse I have a lot of sympathy with, however he came across as rude, at best (he stopped taking our main course order to go and admonish a rule-breaker in the garden) but frankly verged on hostile. It is a lovely pub and I feel with a tiny bit more care we could have had a much better experience. I rarely write reviews and wish I had said something whilst we were there but didn't want to spoil my friend's 40th birthday meal.

Good beer and food, and glad to say the management are taking covid seriously, with masks compulsory and temperature checks, full marks.

We decided to eat here for a family members birthday, we have not eaten out since before lockdown. On arrival our temperatures were checked before we were allowed in and there was a sanitising station too. The staff were wearing either masks or face shields, it felt very Covid safe. Social distancing inside the pub was excellent. Staff were friendly and the service was outstanding. I opted for the homemade burger and my husband had the calves liver, both these dishes were delicious! We took advantage of the government's "eat out" scheme and the bill was very reasonable. We will be returning next week, highly recommended

Sadly we were turned away as apparently they could not accept walk ins despite most of the tables being empty. Glad that we ended up in another pub, the Royal Oak in Wineham had friendlier staff, no reservation policy and the food there was excellent. Go there instead!

Harvey's bitter, excellent food , Harvey's bitter, nice landlord, Harvey's bitter, friendly service, etc. Did I mention the beer? Great time had.

Social distancing/covid precautions were excellent and very reassuring. I had the vegan aubergine and it was delicious. My other half had the Calves Liver and was highly complimentary too. They do offer more standard fare like fish and chips or burgers, but I'd recommend the charred aubergine with caponata.

We visited for a drink early lunchtime today and wished we had booked for lunch. I’m sure though they would of found room for us had we been able to stay. The garden is perfect for safe social distancing, the owners and staff were all wearing visors, people had temperatures checked and very politely asked to use hand gel before entering the premises. The roasts that I saw looked fabulous along with the biggest Yorkshire puddings that I have seen. We will be back for Sunday Roast and quite possibly Will take advantage of the Eat in to help out government scheme. Well done Half Moon.
