Great pub to watch the football, good beer, but shocking food. Burger was similar to a rustlers burger.

Staff unhelpful and unfriendly. I will not be going back there again and certainly would not recommend to visitors. Decided to go elsewhere and glad I did.

We were turned away at 8pm for food as apparently the kitchen is closed. We chose this venue as the website clearly states they serve food until 9pm. Emailed the restaurant and not even a reply. Very bad form.

The Crown, is a nice pub situated on the High Street. Once a hotel this is now a thriving pub with great food and friendly staff. If you love your gin this is a great place to visit with a special menu dedicated just to gin. It has three televisions for you to watch the sports on whilst either drinking or eating. Comfy sofas to have a chat over a coffee, tea etc. Would recommend a visit.

Poor, overpriced food served with half the ingredients missing and what there actually was, tasted bad and not made properly. Salsa isn't ketchup, BBQ sauce and vinegar mixed together. Provided the details to the server, asked for feedback 3 times and was eventually told sharply it was my fault nobody spoke to me or addressed the issue because I hadn't waited long enough (45 minutes). Bizarre.

The food and atmosphere in here was so enjoyable! The lady who served us served with a smile and sense of humour which was lovely

I went in for a lunchtime drink and some food after three weeks in hospital. It was a rare visit to East Grinstead, recuperating there after some time away. Indeed, I looked forward to the visit to a pub, any pub. I ordered Steak and Chips with some wine, but no chips arrived, only fries. This was down to a misunderstanding with the excellent bar staff. Unfortunately, the manager refused to reinstate chips and told his staff so. I made clear my displeasure. The manager, in dirty kitchen gear, then came to confront me while pretending to be reasonable. He was anything but reasonable, even accusing me of being rude to him and his staff. I was not rude to his staff. I told him the deal over the counter was done in good faith over the counter and I expected decent service. The manager then had the cheek to accuse me of a lack of good faith. To sum up, his behaviour was appalling even taking umbridge at me pointing at him and around the bar. After have being pricked in every orifice while in hospital, I was not in the mood for such crass stupidity. This establishment clearly cares little for good customer relations, at least those pupporting to be managers care little. This 'manager' dressed scruffily for customer contact, lacked staff leadership behind the bar, and finally abused myself as a customer and a stranger to the area. He was full of his own sense of 'self-importance', very poor. I hope the owners of the establishment deal wiith the individual appropiately and employ a better standard and class of manager.

It’s run-of-the-mill pup that could probably do quite a bit better. It’s a shame because it’s in centre of town.

Had the pensioners lunch. Menu wasn't extensive but food was very good. Service very pleasant.

Quick visit for a couple of drinks and burgers on a wet afternoon. Charming, welcoming old style pub with comfy chairs and sofas. Lady behind the bar very pleasant and helpful, informed us that due to staff shortages the kitchen wouldn’t be open til 5. No problem for us to wait an hour and enjoy a pint. Ordered at 5, two burgers which are on special offer on Mondays and Thursday. Great value, lovely juicy burgers served with chips coleslaw and salad. Great value, lovely hot food Recommend

The senior citizen menu was a great choice. My chicken and mushroom pie was amazing as were my companions' meals. Great value.

This is a very friendly pub with fantastic atmosphere & bar staff are very welcoming. Been in twice up til now, going again for Sunday lunch. If up East Grinstead again will definitely call back in. Food is excellent & great value too.

Once again top notch. Old worldly feel and lovely locals and staff...Good music or Sport and Beer Garden plus outdoor seating area. Must visit and enjoy. All government guidelines are still in place therefore please keep up the hygiene and safety for all our wellbeing...blessed

The crowns a great pub. Gets a good crowd, expensive but not the most expensive in town by far. Foods good. Sports good. Staff are friendly. Good choice for almost every occasion. Sunday lunch is popular. 12.30 kick off with a burger and a pint is also a sweet spot. Good atmosphere in the evening. Friendly and comfortable.

Great pub for a Sunday roast and reasonable prices and great staff service

Booked a table on a Monday night , didn't no it was bingo night, just wanted a quiet meal with my son put on a table right right in the middle of the bingo, made our exit soon after. So loud didn't enjoy our night.

Staff are so lovely and polite. Although it stinks of dog. Yes, they allow dogs, but so do other pubs, and they don't smell like this, so I wouldn't ever want to eat there as it wouldn't be a pleasant dining experience.

Used to love Sunday’s at the Dorset arms. However after a recent trip to the crown I have changed my mind on the best pub in EG! The Crown is head and shoulders above the rest. Amazing staff, food, drink, atmosphere and it’s always exceptionally clean. I highly recommend.

Short business trip to East Grinstead. Staying in nearby travel lodge mon/tue in the week and I discovered this quiet pub after a short walk up the high street and popped in for evening dinner. Friendly staff , lovely food (expect decent portion sizes) . Door step size omelette, absolutely delicious. Tapas second night ! if your a lonely traveller stick with the 4 choices 🙈 If I am ever back down here this will be my first choice for a chilled dinner n drink Thanks guys

Had a really enjoyable night on steak night, 2 for £22 We also took part in a quiz night that they hold 2 Tuesdays a month run by Rob . Would highly recommend. The food is good for the price!!!

Quite a nice pub with friendly staff. Plenty of space when I've been there and a reasonable range of beers and wine. But why are the tables so sticky? It's like they are wiped down with wallpaper paste. If you lean on the table with your arms or elbows you are glued to the surface. Awful!

Stopped by en route to our destination on the coast to catch a premier league game on BT sport. Friendly staff and very decent food including a first-rate sausage and mash. Lots of dogs in evidence.

Warm, welcoming & very friendly considerate staff. My Family & I had our Breakfast here on the day of 'Our Queens funeral.' I cannot fault anything. Staff, food & service was just perfect. Thank you😊

Not everything on the menu is available, and the steak I had was not top class, but I gave it 4 stars for the atmosphere. Nice place to stop for a chat with friends or watch a match.

Love visiting! The staff are very friendly (Stephen, the manager sets a great tone, love seeing him). Although the food is well priced/affordable, there is no compromise and everything tastes good. The atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, a great allrounder any day of the week!

The steak I had was tough and the tall manager with darkish hair was really rude when I asked for another. He said 'its 2 for 20 quid what do you expect mate'. Won't come again

We were just passing through East Grinstead and decide to stop for lunch, and after a quick look around ended up in the Crown. Quite a few customers but the pub is reasonably large and spacious , so a nice relaxed atmosphere . Two TV's on in the back ( one news and one sport ) but sound turned off. Had the Tuesday offer of £10 for a Steak and chips , with a couple of onion rings and salad . It was cooked perfectly so good value for money . MY OH had a jacket potato which was a good size, hot with a good filling. Pint of Harvey best was in good condition . Pity there isn't a pub like this where we live.

Relaxed atmosphere and really great staff

Great town centre pub. Staff are brilliant, good selection of beers and spirits (especially gins) and you can't knock the food. Landlord is exceptionally friendly and welcoming.

I had a very good meal and the service was brilliant, very friendly without being intrusive. Someone in our group is gluten free and the pub has a gluten free menu, and the staff were very attentive to make sure that the food served was gluten free. A very enjoyable meal, we will be back!

Decent food and didn't have to wait too long. Didn't catch the name of the guy who served us (this was yesterday, evening of Thursday 26th) but he was thoroughly professional and provided top-class customer service, ably supported by a young lady who was also very helpful. There were six of us and we were all served promptly and had an enjoyable visit.

Visited while on a day trip to East Grinstead on the Bluebell Railway. Food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Good selection of real ales to make the trip even more enjoyable. Catered for young children as well and our friends had the senior citizens lunchtime special which was great value.

A friendly and well run pub. I dropped in with my dog for a drink and was given a great welcome by the bar staff. The food being served looked and smelled delicious, with a great looking menu. My dog was welcomed, and we will be back again for dinner soon.

Overall it was a good experience. Good prices, quality of the food medium, service a bit slow but very friendly.

Excellent service with a warm welcome. Felt very covid safe as well spaced out tables and all staff wearing a face covering. Food was freshly cooked and presented very well. Plus was very tasty. Personally I had the garden aromatic burger. Highly recommended. Prices are very reasonable and good size servings. Nice Pimms as well

Visited The Crown this week and was impressed with their organisation. Unlike many establishments, they were hot on mask wearing but were perfectly accepting of one of our party who had a valid exemption. Food was well presented and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend.

We went to The Crown for the England v Czech Republic game and had a lovely time. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food and table service were excellent. I was also very impressed with their Covid precautions. Felt very safe and comfortable.

Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the so called manager of this pub today as I was refused entry simply because I didn’t prove I was exempt which is against government guidelines which clearly states people exempt do not have to prove why they are exempt and was told to leave simply because I didn’t have a lanyard stating I was exempt! When I told the manager I didn’t have to prove this he just said no proof no entry and I was told to leave infront of my wife and other customers which made me feel extremely embarrassed! Me and my wife traveled all the way from south london specifically for this pub for the views and scenery but was met with disgusting behaviour from a complete and utter idiot! I will be taking this matter further as being refused entry because of a disability is against the the equality act 2010. This so called manager clearly needs retraining in both customer service and the government guidelines. Avoid this place like the plague if you have any disabilities or want good old fashion customer service where you feel welcomed!

We ate here on Sunday morning we forgot to book so phoned last minute hoping to get a table. And spoke to a guy called Chris who said we were more than welcome with our table of six as there was plenty of space for us. When arriving we were greeted by Chris who made us feel very welcome and comfortable. The food was amazing the service was outstanding and the Covid rules we stuck to perfectly with signing in for track trace being so easy. Highly Recommend and will definitely be visiting again.

Great pub, staff are so friendly + welcoming. Lovely ambience, good red wines ... And food is wonderful. Best to book a table, as its keeping everyone safe by having table service only. All the staff are so great , as things have changed when we need to stay seated , while they check everyone has drinks etc. They are doing really well in these different times. Thank you!

Took my family for Sunday lunch. Upon arriving we where told quite abruptly our booking wasn't in the book. Luckily I had my email confirmation abd they found a table. Our waitress acted like she didn't like us or young children. Our dinner took an hour to come out and our second drinks never arrived. Food was nice but nothing you cant get most places. Won't return as there are much better places to go with warmer welcomes.
