Popped in in afternoon for a cooling drink, staff nice and welcoming.Returned later for a meal. Sharing a tasty chicken satay to start, my husband had smoked gammon , a special, with egg and chips, eggs overcooked, he did ask for over easy but both set, so no chip dipping, rest of the meal he really enjoyed. I had the rocket salad with salmon, again this was very good. Finished with two scoops of lovely homemade ice cream. Ben provided service with a smile. Would happily return if we are in the area again

Lovely garden area where you can sit out with your dog. Order at bar and food brought out. Only had sandwiches for a light lunch but they were very nice. Seemed very popular but we didn't feel crowded.

Excellent food and service, not the usual long delays other pubs seem to consider acceptable. Our waiter, Ben was very polite, smart and efficient, we had two courses, both well cooked and presented and will definitely be returning soon. Thank you to all the staff.

The Sunday lunch here is very good value - Main and dessert £21.00. The choice of meat - Lamb / Beef, my brother asked for rare as possible beef and they served it just right. The salmon and watercress sauce is lovely. Two decent size bowls of vegetables - carrots, cabbage & cauliflower in cheese sauce, which was not swamped! Restaurants are well spaced out which allows easy chat.

Our family of 3 stayed here for 2 nights and it was absolutely lovely. The room was clean, food was delicious, and the staff was very accommodating and friendly. Yvonne served us breakfast and tided our room and she was a doll. We’re all the way from Canada and will definitely be back!

Collin, Barry and the whole gang were fabulous! Had lunch, dinner and breakfast. Food and service were excellent.

We stayed at the Half Moon for the night before starting our 6 day hike on the South Downs Way. Colin, Paul, Barry and the rest of the crew were extremely accommodating and the food delicious. The rooms were pretty basic but comfortable and clean. We stayed in several other Inns/B&B's along the "Way" and this was our favorite. Thank you all! Elizabeth Rand

Visited this venue to join a large group for a meal. What meal? Dare I mention the hideous so called ploughman's. The following picture is supposed to be a ploughman's. Certainly far from it. The chef was challenged on it. He remarked ( that's what you ordered that's what you got) that was after telling him how hideous it was. Others suffered cold food. I do not recommend this pub. Weather spoons food is probably better food!! Something I must try!

Basic accommodation but very welcoming and comfortable. Dog friendly with park nearby for exercise. Dog allowed in bar for evening meal and breakfast, which was freshly prepared and plentifu. Cheerful and helpful staff. Ideal location.

Called in on our way back from Haslemere. Very friendly staff, meal came quickly and was very tasty. Prices reasonable (£30 for two mains and soft drinks)

Went today for a Sunday lunch and was excited for my Sunday lunch, but was so very disappointed. Potatoes very over cooked,(burnt) Yorkshire pudding very dry, beef was thin cut which was disappointing, but was even then difficult to cut and chewy. Veg were cooked well, but no parsnips and little gravy. So sorry to give such a bad review but for £16 this was extremely poor and so disappointing.

We enjoyed a very reasonable two course Sunday lunch (£20.00) - three good slices of meat, beautifully cooked, roast potato and yorkshire pudding, and a large bowl of vegetables. The tables are well spaced, and chairs very comfortable.

Despite booking it was clear that the food delivery was a huge problem. Some items not available. It took 2 hours to get food. Food not cooked properly when it did arrive. Ordering burgers may be OK.

The four of us booked a table two weeks after lockdown ended so had to sit outside on a showery, chilly day. But the warmth of the staff made up for the chill of the weather. Slight problem with the meal order was dealt with professionally. The chicken pie was excellent and the lemon meringue pie was superb as was all the food. Lovely fresh vegetables. When the heavens opened the marquee was very welcome. Nothing too much trouble. We will definitely visit again!

We've just had our first Sunday lunch delivered. It was absolutely superb both in quality and quantity. We will definitely order again, and when the pub eventually reopens we might well find ourselves wandering in that direction!

We called in for a lunch in the garden on a sunny day. Food was good with generous portions. Shared starter of baked camembert (£12) which was very well presented with salad garnish, olives and fruit marmalade and, unusually, deep fried baguette strips. It might have been better with crusty bread as the deep fried baguette made the whole dish very rich. Then sea bass (£16) and pork belly (£13), both well cooked and well presented.Covid precautions in place with the waitress wearing a mask althought those behind the bar were not - that would have been desirable for a 'top mark' and maximum customer safety. Sanitiser available and contact details taken.This is our first visit although the pub is close enough to almost be our local! The garden is simple and spacious albeit rather close to the road on the south side but plenty of room to sit further away. The inside is looking rather dated though.The important Food Standards Agency Hygiene Rating is a 4, that's one below the top mark of 5. Review April 2018. With many of the Petersfield restaurants achieving a solid 5 that's a bit of a disappointment; hopefully a 5 on the next inspection?

It never fails, always a great Sunday roast today, always well to book, very busy, the reason being because their food is excellent

Firstly staff are great. Garden is nice and easy to socially distance and good protocols in pub re covid 19. We ate to use the eat out to help out scheme. They had a special steak menu where everything was £20 (so reduced to £10 through scheme). No choice other than that menu. I had gammon, 2 fried eggs and a few chips. It was nice, well cooked and OK for £10 but that was 50% off. My wife had Tuna steak. Again well cooked and good value for £10 but £20 would have been too much for what you got. My son had 8oz rump steak. He asked for it to be rare. It was less than a cm thick. Once browned each side it was completely overdone and again you would not pay £20 and in fact this was so badly cooked £10 was over the top. It felt like they had designed a scheme to fleece the customers / government and that, rather than the food, left a nasty taste in the mouth. A good pub for a drink on a summer's day but not inclined to eat there again.

Driving home from Cornwall stopped for food, was fully booked but slotted us in The four of us all had pies they where great well worth it Good choice of deserts The staff were very friendly

I ate here last week with a friend for lunch, along with my 2 year old and 2 month old baby. We sat outside in the lovely garden (with a nice little fenced off play area which my 2 year old really enjoyed). My friend & I downloaded the app to order some drinks, and they were brought to our table a short time later. I explained to the server that I have allergies to Milk, Soya & Egg and asked if they could help me find something on the menu I could order for lunch. They brought out a specific allergy menu which detailed not only which items on the menu have which allergens, but also which items on the menu could be adapted to make them free from specific allergens. It was very impressive. My friend & I still used the app to order and pay for our food so it was all contactless. I ended up ordering the cheese burger, which they made for me without cheese, and they made a special burger sauce for me from vegan mayo. It was absolutely delicious. They didn’t seem at all phased by it, I felt in safe hands, and they didn’t make me feel like I was being a pain, so I would definitely recommend here for anyone with allergies. My friend also really enjoyed his (non allergy) lunch, and everything felt very safe in the current Covid-19 pandemic.

We looked this pub up on trip advisor , all reviews looked good. I’m personally can’t understand the reviews being good . The pub is so dated inside but a pleasant outside area. My partner accidentally picked up a spoon instead of a fork , so I took it back in the pub and told the waitress , I told her I had touched it etc and she told me to just change it for a fork ! Ummmm Covid 19!! We ordered our food which then took ages to come out . Well what can I say ! I had a chicken burger and it was birds eye or findus chicken , grim!! I could not eat it, all I could think of was the fake chicken going in my mouth . My partner had Gammon steak , it was dripping in fat and under cooked . We both left feeling sick . Never ever will we return . Sorry .

Slow service - not up to the usual standard. Had to wait nearly 1 ¼ hours for food to be brought out. Portion size on the pork belly definitely got smaller as the night went on. Will give it another go but if it’s not better we won’t be returning.

Have eaten here many times, with family and our grandchildren, with work colleagues in large groups. Good variety on the menu and pleasant staff.

Asked for a glass of Savignon Blanc for my companion, offered 2 alternatives. Asked for a glass of Rioja, got no comment. The red wine was OK I suppose, but I have had better Riojas. When I paid the bill , my Rioja was a Merlot and I was told Rioja only came by the bottle. The young man who took the order clearly regarded an older person as thick and or not worth explaining anything to. Luckily the food was very good value. My advice is - if you are oldish. maybe retired... dine somewhere else where your custom would be better valued

Our Stroke support group had the most wonderful Christmas lunch yesterday. Really excellent food and service for 67 people - lovely and hot and great atmosphere. Thanks guys and look forward to seeing you again next year!

My son was married at The Half Moon a fortnight ago. It was a lovely day, brilliantly organised and orchestrated by Chris and Paul. The function rooms are light and airy and the garden was beautiful in the sunshine. The food at the reception was great, everyone remarked on it, and we had a wonderful and stress free day. Plenty of wine and beer choice, friendly bar staff. Thanks to all at the Half Moon for helping make a special day even more memorable. Again, special mention to Chris and Paul, all the servers at the reception and the sun for shining!

We did an overnight stop as we were guests at a nearby wedding. We were very happy with our stay. It is not posh but it is clean and tidy. The pub has a very nice garden area with plenty of seating and a secure fence to make it child friendly as well as little play area for the under 8’s.The room was small with a decent en-suite, with complimentary shower gel and shampoo.The staff are lovely and very helpful, they ordered and arranged a taxis for us to get to the wedding venue. The breakfast was good with a wide selection of cooked breakfasts that included a vegetarian option as well as cereal, toast, juice and plenty of tea and coffee. It was very good value for money and we would recommend it for a decent B&B

We were having a family reunion of 7 people and the staff were able to accomodate us. My husband had the Chicken and Leak pie and I had the lamb and Stilton pie. Both were tender and tasty. The vegetables were just right and the mash was fluffy. Others in the group had the fish and chips and they enjoyed the portions, although one of the orders of the fish was a little undercooked. We all had drinks and desert and I thought the price for seven people was very reasonable. When we visit again we will certainly come back.

Spend one night at the Half Moon. Room was clean and beds comfortable. Lovely shower. Heating wasn’t on when we came in around half ten. The staff resolved this quickly. Breakfast was excellent. Tasty and a full plate. Staff very friendly and helpful.

It's that time of the month again when the Triumph Sports Six Club visit a local pub for Sunday lunch. At a quick glance passing the Half Moon in my car the past I didn't think that there was much to it. How wrong I was. As I drove into the car park I did think it was that big but there are further spaces to the back. Also I noticed a play area and a large garden.There is also a large dining room extension to the original building.

Age range from 3 to 80 .... excellent service, nothing too much trouble for all the fantastic waiting staff, all the food especially the roasts were excellent. All cam out together, all hot and tasty. Would recommend for any family get togethers.

I organised our Club Christmas lunch for just under 50 people. With that many diners, the food is often not as good or there are delays with service, but I really couldn’t fault the staff at The Half Moon. The food was excellent, and many people commented on how good the roast turkey was. My Mushroom & Stilton Wellington was delicious. One person arrived late due to unforeseen circumstances, and he was still served his three courses with absolutely no fuss. We would all definitely return!

This is a great little pub. It's in a good location on a main road and in walking distance of Petersfield although it does take about 30 mins. It has a restaurant and 4 bookable rooms. The rooms are not in any way posh but they are clean, have nice showers, hairdryers, tea and coffee facilities and an iron and ironing board. Beds are comfy too. You do have to go out of the pub to get to the rooms which is fine as long as it's not pouring! There is a nice restaurant that does a set Sunday lunch and dinner as well as a good menu during the week. The food is lovely, good value and the seasonal veg is beautifully cooked. However the jewel in their crown is their wonderful staff. They are kind and attentive and are just lovely. A very reasonable place to stay and I have already been back and will be returning again when I am in Petersfield.

Food was poor and the pub almost completely empty on a weekday evening. Now I know why! Service was friendly though.

Table booked and on entering the Half Moon welcomed and shown directly to my table of my own choice, wonderful. Asked about drinks, they have a wide verity. Drinks arrived and ordered lunch fish and chips which were average but to in the middle of what seemed countryside was worth the trip.

Been here a few times now and thought now is the time to review. Good choice of food and of a good standard. Staff very pleasant and the whole restaurant appears to be run well. On each of our visits most of the tables have been taken. Would recommend trying if you have not yet been.

Located just outside the town of Petersfield, free car park, accommodation situated upstairs through the back of the Inn. Good selection of breakfast, a full English on request and HOT!?

I cannot understand why I have not reviewed the Half Moon before, since I go there frequently. The club to which we belong meets for a lunch and a talk each month. Yesterday it was the club Christmas lunch and it was excellent.

Needed a place to met some really good friends. We live 240 miles away and was down to visit family and friends. Well what a place to find a hidden gem.

idea base to stop one night if u are running the hellrunner race the following morning as its approx 7mins drive to longmoor camp. stayed in room 1. quite a big room. little gripes were could do with blackout curtains as the light from the pub sign was very bright . bit of traffic noise as youre on a main road .could do with some biscuits in the room and water pressure for the shower was poor and the london pride beer is truly awful. good value 3 courses for £22 and house wine at £16. in the restaurant .decent full english in the morning.

We got married here on 23/09/17, absolutely amazing venue and the food is gorgeous! All cooked to absolute perfection! Staff are so helpful and friendly, rooms are light, airy and spacious and it's excellent value for money, I'd highly recommend the half moon to everyone of my friends and family for future events

Four of arrived about 19:30 hrs we hadn't booked on a Thursday evening we were offered a table in the bar or restaurant we had burger, chilli and steak everyone reported the food to be very good cooked well and nicely presented as a bonus the London pride bitter was very nice.

Booked a birthday lunch here for 44 people . Food was delicious, had the 2 course menu. The whole party enjoyed their starter and main. Portions were generous, the choice was varied and nothing was too much trouble. The serving staff were delightful and the whole event from start to finish was made pleasurable by the team here. A family gathering brought us to The Half Moon. We were seated at a large round table which suited our party of 7. The room was light and airy. We were having a later lunch but all our requests were met.

In for lunch today with 3 older guests and Josh was amazing. His patience is astounding. My guests aren't the fastest of eaters and they do tend to dither and he never faltered. The food was great and the service was excellent. Will definitely be back

Had a three course lunch in the beer garden. Quality of food and speed of service excellent. All staff we met were polite and friendly which I think always makes a big difference to whether you enjoy somewhere or not. All in all a lovely pub/restaurant and my husband and I will be back! Try the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake-it's fab.

Visited here whilst travelling as seemed to be the only pub in the area that serves food all day (and doesn't have awful reviews). Had Chilli and a burger from the bar menu - both were great tasting meals and we'd definitely be back if were passing by again.

We booked a table for 16 for our daughters birthday, we sometimes get the fully booked excuse when we mention her birthday is valentines day as so many places want to do a special valentines menu to make more money, but the Half Moon took our booking with no problem. My wife and I popped in for a quick lunch while visiting in Petersfield. My wife had the burger and I had the Cottage Pie. We really enjoyed the bite which set us up for the day.

Despite having visited the Half Moon for an evening meal we decided to try it for our Sunday lunch - we were not disappointed! A wide range of freshly cooked roasts plus chicken and fish and a' Veggie' option. Good range of 'starters' and mouthwatering deserts. Not the cheapest in the area but very good value for money. With the white linen tablecloths and silver service the paper napkins were a disappointment..

Got lost looking for another pub and desperate to eat we stopped in here. The food was average pub food and was served by a polite staff member. Elected to have the chicken burger, this was ok but not outstanding. Little atmosphere.
