I’ve been to this place right after going for a walk by the canal. At first impression it looks a lovely and tiny English pub, however it didn’t feel like. There was a man who was serving in the bar also the tables, he made clear I wasn’t welcome there. His first words were “We are busy, so good will take long to get ready” while in fact there was only a few tables to be served as everyone else had already eaten. Politely I thanked him and asked for a beer, for some reason that was the most rude and hostile experience I’ve ever had in the UK, not to mention that he was absolutely lovely with anyone but me. Regardless his poor attitude towards me, I settled myself at one of those tables right on the corner. He came to pleasant the families around me, he saw but he pretended he didn’t and turned his back walking away. I felt completely uncomfortable also ignored by him. Clearly not welcomed by him it felt like I shouldn’t never ever been there.

I’ve been to the Half Moon a number of times and have never been disappointed, and this visit lived up to expectations. When I booked a table for lunch they warned that they were very heavily booked so asked me to bear in mind that service might be a little slower than they would wish, which I thought an excellent thing to do. In the event neither they nor I need have worried as the service was very prompt and as friendly as always. I’ll certainly be back and recommend the Half Moon without hesitation.

My mother was visiting from Germany and on her wish list was a visit to a “proper pub”. We chose the Half Moon, because the pictures looked so cozy. It was even better than expected. It really is very cozy with a warm fire, the dogs loved every new person coming in and the hostess actually talked in fluent German with my mum (which surprised her so much that she didn’t know what to reply). I’m also a large/heavy gent and was pleasantly surprised that I could move through the pub without issue and there was plenty of stable seating. Might not be of interest to most, but for me it made the visit so much better. The food was fantastic and we felt utterly welcome. Since we live only a 30 minute drive away we’ll definitely be back.

We were not surprised that this pub was so busy when we booked for lunch last Thursday, we couldn’t fault the food, service or ambiance at the Half Moon. The specials from the board were delicious and all of the meals were good value. Attention to detail was appreciated, the pats of butter served with the new potatoes, delicious, when we requested mayonnaise a large bottle came out instead of a measly portion in a dish and coffee is served in large elegant mugs and tea in a pot. We have booked for Sunday lunch and are very much looking forward to it. Would definitely recommend this relaxed and friendly village pub.

I have walked past this pub a hundred times and thought wanted to pop in. I and a friend, popped in on a Wednesday lunchtime to be greeted by the friendliest barstaff. Service was excellent, the food was better than you would expect for a traditional pub (jumbo sausages and chips; Haggis and chips) and we were made to feel very welcome. The pub was busy with a good few locals enjoying themselves providing friendly banter and entertainment. I am already planning my next visit. Added bonus for dog lovers the pub is dog friendly!

Nice little country pub. Haven't tried the food yet, but would like to. Was pleasantly surprised to see a vegan vegetable tart on their daily specials board. Not sure if they always offer a vegan option, or just certain days. We stopped in for a cold drink on a hot day, met the resident dogs, and enjoyed the probably authentically old decor and photos of the local war heroes and celebrities. I'll post an update if and when we've tried the food and spent a little longer there. Oh - and be aware that they stop serving food at 3pm.

Meal ruined by the comments of an over-sensitive and paranoid member of staff. I felt I was being attacked by false claims that I was mocking her disability. Anyone who knows me, knows that this is not within my character. For goodness sake, I've been using this pub off and on for the past 15 years and written good reviews in the past. This member of staff has just lost the Half Moon all future business of 5 'mature' gentlemen. How sad.

We had lunch here with friends. It is a lovely traditional village pub with a good menu choice (including several vegetarian & vegan options and some options in small and larger portion sizes) and separate dessert board (if you have room!). The people serving us were friendly and helpful. We had to wait a while for the food but that was okay as the place was full (a testament to its reputation) and the food was cooked to order. The food was good and the portion sizes were large. There was draft real ale, including Tring Brewery's Side Pocket for a Toad, which made my husband very happy! We'll definitely be returning.

Always busy here Coffee and tea always spot on, had lamb roll today and for the price could have done with a little more thought to it. Lamb was very dry and stringy and obviously microwaved then served on ciabatta roll with a side of mint sauce straight from the jar, crisps and salad, could have done with some gravy for dipping and maybe serve with a few roast potatoes instead of salad and crisps, dogs ate most of it but for £13.95 not worth it sorry .
