We booked for a roast the day before and it was easy. We walked our days and ended at the Black Horse. Everyone was very welcoming and the food was excellent. A proper roast diner with a proper pudding after. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Clean and warm pub - the beer was fresh and chilled as it should be. Welcoming environment, bonus of sports being shown on the tv and it also allows dogs. Would recommend

We held our daughters Christening celebration here, and we were blown away! The effort & personalised service from Sophia, Jake & the team was just incredible, the food, the drinks, the face painting, everything was perfect, a 50 strong crowd including children all catered for & looked after so well. The spread that was laid on was delicious, varied and well priced, the whole party was very complimentary. A well stocked bar with so much choice, very friendly & helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble, our decorations were put up on our behalf, so the whole garden area looked amazing for our arrival during this sunny Sunday afternoon. The garden is large, clean, secure and very child friendly, with plenty of seating, twinkling lights and lit up borders, this really is a lovely place for a celebration or for drinks/good food, the inside of the pub is equally as inviting, very handy large pay & display car park situated right next door to the pub, as well as their own smaller parking area. Very clean toilets. Disabled accessibility with a ramp. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Not everybody's choice, can be loud. Beer garden is nice. And they look after their beers here. Best Red Stripe in town.

Found this understated pub in our travels but was happily surprised by the quality of food.. wasn’t expecting them to have such a good chef on board along with massive portion sizes! Defo give it a go 👍✔️

We had a night in tring and decided to pop to the black horse for an afternoon drink. The staff and regulars made us feel very welcome and invited us back in the evening as there was a dj on that night (rich….fantastic!!!). We decided to head back there for a few late night drinks before returning to our Airbnb, and had the best night!! Locals are so warm and welcoming,bar staff amazing and such a great night with great tunes and great vibe. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a few drinks in a friendly,welcoming pub. Shout out to all the staff and regulars 👍👍

The exterior of this restaurant presents a facade of care and attention. The welcoming sign at the entrance is a promise unfulfilled once you step inside. The ambiance swiftly shifts to that of a local off-license with a well lit roomy interior, startlingly unwelcoming. Regular patrons seem shocked new faces which does little to alleviate the discomfort. The decor is starting to show as shadow of its former glory, clearly suffering from cost-cutting and neglect but it can be easily resolved. It’s a telling sign of a gastro pub that once was and could be again. The service is excellent. The 'Black Horse Burger' is a culinary misadventure – it tasted as if it's been fried in the same old oil as the chips. The burger meat was chewy and grisly, a clear indication of cost-cutting. My advice to the management: Drop the title of gastro pub it is misleading. Focus on being a good pub you have great parking and i would return for a live show. With quality bar snacks, and invest in revitalizing the decor. This establishment has potential, but it's currently lost being something it is not.

Popped in as first pub after walk from Aylesbury. Very comfortable pub had darts on TV and a traditional dart board.food looked good that was being served.bar staff welcoming.Left to experience other pubs in Tring before catching bus home.Oops should of stayed at The Black Horse

We pop to Black Horse didn’t know the pub to get a Sunday roast ,we all ordered different roasts meals , mine was pork with all trimmings we asked for crispy baked potatoes !!apple sauce the meal was brilliant lovely vegetables etc hot food an plate, couldn’t fault meal or service ! Others had beef and chicken all lovely meal definitely go agin plus a lovely lady served us couldn’t do enough for us !

Fantastic first time visiting lovely bar lady friendly, welcoming, all staff helpful friendly the food was out of this world, could not belive the portion size real value for money . Beautiful roast dinner and lovely sticky toffee pudding I've never had a roast like it we will definitely go back again . Best meal out we have had in a long time. Keep up good work

Passing by on a canal boat holiday. Parked to the north by Tring bridge and walked down. This was the first pub we came to and decided to try it. Lovely interior, clean and comfortable. Dogs are welcome inside and out. Plenty of outdoor spacing with a fair amount of undercover seating. Came across as a adult evening venue - very nice. The food was excellent, we had roasts across the group. Food served quickly with large portions and fairly priced. I'd certainly go back again, the staff were all very friendly and provided a great service.

Had a pint and a burger in the garden with a friend. The lady behind the bar was lovely, the beer selection was decent and the burger was really good. Would go here again.

Great pint of Guinness!!! Good pub!

This is a reasonably nice pub just off the high street. The general decor is nice, but the furniture is quite tired and tatty, so not that Inviting. Also only had two beers available, Side Pocket and one other, the rest were lagers. Very limited parking, but the public car park next door is free for 1 hour.

Nice Sunday lunch in quieter pub off High Street with friendly staff

It was a lovely sunny Sunday and we had been to the Tring natural history museum (highly recommend) this pub is only a 10 mins walk and feels very local. The food was excellent (Sunday roasts) everything felt homemade and freshly cooked (but just heated up) and was the perfect size. The potatoes are definitely the star of the show! The kids roast was on the large size for a 6 year old (not a complaint just an fyi) with good meat quality and just as tasty as the adults. Good beer options including local Tring beer, softdrinks and ciders. Outside they have a good 10 or so large picnic tables and lots of space to run around. Prices are very reasonable, staff very friendly and would definitely recommend.

Nice food not really a restaurant type of pub

We had a roast here after the Tring Rugby Festival. The food was AMAZING and portion sizes were very generous. Our waitress, Sophia was outstanding and superb at her job. It's a typical local pub without the faffing of gastro pub experiences. Parking limited on site but right next do to pay and display. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

The worst Sunday dinner ever. Called in on route to a spa break. The pub was cold, beef tough, roast veg awful. Didn’t even eat anything. Yuck.

Stopped off on way through from Champneys. The service was very good, polite and friendly. The food was hot and very tasty with good sized portions. I had asked for a Chicken burger that wasn't on the menu, and they were more than happy to oblige. Fully recommend.

Lovely lunch at the Black horse today, great food and staff, my only tiny grumble was the music a little loud for lunchtime and couldn't hear my family! After I asked them to turn the music down they did, it made it much more enjoyable!

Ridiculous owner a little power hungry. Didn’t serve my friends after they presented driving licenses and even debit cards to prove name (they’re 20 years old). A rough crowd accompany the pub. TV’s poor quality for football matches. I’ll stick to the Anchor.

My partner and I had Sunday lunch here, I ordered a beef and chicken roast with stuffing. Let me tell you without a shadow of a doubt, this is the best roast dinner I have had in a restaurant, ever. The meats were succulent and moist, the vegetables clearly freshly prepared and cooked to incredible standard, a generous serving of gravy, crisp but light Yorkshire puddings.. The list goes on. The chicken and bacon salad was also generously portioned and delicious according to Lucy. Great price. Great service. Great pub. I hope to visit again. ✌🏼

None of the staff were wearing masks despite the law. No customers were asked to wear masks. The food was plentiful but tasteless. Am experience I have no wish to repeat.

A very good food and dog friendly but the table was sticky and there was someone smoking inside. A public car park near by although not free.

Abysmal staff. Someone should check if the girls behind the bar are of legal are to work/serve alcohol. Both girls extremely childish, rude and unwelcoming. Some of the customers and staff also very clearly racist. We barely sat down before deciding to up and leave.

Visite the pub during our stay in Tring. Plenty of outside seating, but pleasant enough inside with plenty of TV screens. Felt very safe there Lovely staff and good food and beer made it a worthwhile stop, We both had the burgher, and when you ask them to remove the salad they remove the salad. The beer was good and well handled The burgher was delicious, although there 1s quite a good range of meals on the menu

A lovely pub with nice big beer garden within view of the church. Food was good, but not gastro IMO! Still, I'd happily spend a few hours here. Had a younger crowd that some other pubs in the area.

Went for a family meet up. The staff were great, the food was lovely. Really wholesome and filling. It was nice and clean. If you passed by the pub you might not think it would hide such a great experience. Ignore the exterior totally.

Delicious food!!! We were driving through UK, stopped at Tring looking for various nearly closing places to eat around 2pm. I found The Black Horse on google and phoned up and they said they were open. What a great surprise! Just off the main street, with a parking next to it. Very clean and cosy. They were very nice to us and served us a piping-hot incredible meal. My choice was a chicken and mushroom pie and it came with mash, carrots and broccoli on the side, and gravy. It was really good. One of our daughters is vegetarian and there were plenty of options for her too (in eg. Quorn). It was just what we needed!

Very friendly staff n beautiful interior

We were 5 Adults and 2 children. Not one of us enjoyed our lunch meals, a d dog poo was found in the pub garden where the kids were playing and the barman said he forgot to clean it up from his dog in the morning. Very disappointed

This is not a "family friendly" pub by any stretch of the imagination. No baby changing facilities as far as we could find and there was no staff around to ask. When we wanted to order food we were treated as an inconvenience! I wouldn't bother!

The bar staff always smile. The bar has a welcoming feel. The garden is perfect for warm summer evenings. I don't smoke, but I like how the needs of people who do have been given thought.

Great pub quiz on a Thursday, allows dogs

Not having been to tring for food lately we went to the black horse as a last resort as most places were closed on a Saturday afternoon. What a find. Everything freshly made you could tell. Carbonara to die for. Friendly lady who served us I presume the landlady. Plenty of seating room. Dogs allowed. A big change to the black horse of old. Definitely go back again.

Spent an enjoyable few hours here with Lunch and drinks. The menu seems to be a bit limited at the weekend, but the food when it arrived (after a long wait) was nicely presented and tasty. Reasonable prices too. When we were there the bar was quite busy with locals watching the football match, so it got a bit noisy at times. The lady who took our order was friendly as were the other staff. The pub is located quite close to the centre of Tring with a large car park adjacent. The Black Horse didn't disappoint but wouldn't be our first choice if we ever find ourselves in Tring again.

Watched the rugby match between England and Wales here at the weekend. Not much in the way of an atmosphere. The bar staff were efficient and quite friendly. The beer was the same as in most pubs.

We where there for a wake and I must day the food was lovely and plenty of it .

Went in for a quiet drink after the christmas festivities, feeling a bit flat! Luckily it's was 'Music Bingo Night' to our surprise. They hold it every fortnight on a Thursday. Absolutely great fun evening, remembering all the songs & quickly mark the Bingo card while being surrounded by the whole pub singing along. What a great evening to lift your spirits and receive friendly attentive customer service. Thanks Blackhorse!

Quiet as we had lunch early at 12 noon. Nice food though and friendly staff, good local ales on tap and good size pub garden.
