The Halberd Inn in Ipswich

I visited for the first time and was thoroughly impressed by the staff, the atmosphere, and the owner. A top-notch experience and pure enjoyment. A perfect ten!

Always a great time here, friendly welcoming staff, freshly cleaned beer lines and great atmosphere to watch any sport, especially any Ipswich game. Extra bonus point it's extremely dog friendly, not many pubs in town are these days.

Some friends and I met at the Halberd to watch the England/Scotland rugby,There are 2 tv’s in the bar where we sat,one with rugby and the other had cricket on,which no one watched.The commentary wasn’t on the rugby,but loud music was playing,we asked a member of staff they could put rugby on both tv’s and turn the commentary on,she said the manager wouldn’t allow that. As the Ipswich football fans came in, the cricket was promptly turned off and a football game was put on with the commentary on very loud,I ,along with many other rugby fans left at half time,I went to the Dove which was great.I won’t be using this pub again,it’s the Dove next time.

New owner has turned the pub around. Great atmosphere as well

Alright but a bit weird tonight. Apparently, chucking out time was 9pm but they failed to tell anyone, so it all got a bit stressful.

Often come here after work as my office is nearby. Only ever had pleasant interactions with the staff and the regulars. Have yet to visit on a footie day but I've heard it can get super busy as it's close to the stadium and there's TV screens inside and out. Cute little huts with heaters outside to sit in too 🛖

Went on a match day so didn't have food

We used to come here before it was the Halberd inn. Very nice pub with a central location next to the bus station. The Halberd is also very close to Christchurch park also. Parking is nearby but best off parking in town. The beer selection is very good and prices are reasonable. Will be back as a great place to watch live sport

For a bar aimed at sports fans with the standard selection of beers, the food is possibly the best pub food in Ipswich, the homemade dill-based dip ("burger sauce") is delicious. Plenty of seating indoors and a covered outside area too

Tucked away pub’s pub. Traditional feel yet mixed age clientele. Alcohol: Heineken & bitter on tap so my dad & brother would be happy. Full range of spirits and the lemonade mixer remained fizzy. Also spotted Corky’s shots! Important info: sport on TV, friendly, efficient staff, has a beer garden. Fun fact: the barman sported a FCUK tshirt. Haven’t seen one of them since the early naughties!

I love architecture and this place is an amazing building... Martin was a fantastic host... This place has a large function room and a huge outdoor covered seating area. Very popular with the locals... A great choice of background music created a great vibe and it was a pleasure to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. Multiple screens showing sports... Multi level seating a roaring live fire and a dart board completes the experience. A must if your in the area 😎

Watched six nations here. Lots of TV screens including in beer garden. Was busy but fun friendly bar. They do food also more bar food.

Was lost , popped in for a quickie , barmaid couldn't of been more helpful . Pointed me in the right direction . Will pop in again .

Looks like a tidy makeover from the days I remember it as an irish pub. While I miss that and on my visit the atmosphere was a tad below perfect this is a nice and friendly pub and would return

Visired on a quiet weekday lunchtime. Very friendly and welcoming. Good place to sit and relax with a beer or coffee and light snack or meal.

Enjoyed my visit to the Halberd Inn to watch Liverpool FC beat Crystal Palace. I had a nice burger meal although the tomato sauce that I requested never arrived, hence four stars instead of five for service; the meal was washed down with a lovely pint of Guinness both at reasonable prices. On this winter's day it was noted that the pub temperature was perfect.

Often come here for food/drink pre match. Despite often being busy you can easily get a drink and there's plenty of food on offer

Came here on Saturday after a nice dinner with a few work colleagues, after getting in and sitting down outside I was being watched by a lady bouncer. I sat down to speak with my work friend and she came over to ask what was going on this was very strange as we were just having a drink but I explained we worked together and then she left. After a few moments she returned with another comment. After this I felt a bit uncomfortable as I could feel I was still being watched so I went inside. She then spoke to my colleagues and told them she wanted me to leave. I have never felt discrimination like this before, whether this was because of the colour of my skin I don’t know but I don’t really have another reason as to why. It’s a shame we still live in a world with people like that.

Always been a good pub to visit, however our last visit two bar staff seemed more interested in sharing their mobile phone pictures etc at the end of the bar than serving customers.

Had an excellent burger here before now. Service is good. Nice atmosphere. Large because of the outside spaces which have roof coverings. Good place for watching sports, plenty of screens. Ideal for a drink before your table is free at Storico :-)

Very nice inside and outside, they have 3 booths outside that you can privately hire if you want all covered, most of the outside is covered with plenty of tables and TVs, staff were friendly and helpful.

Old pub so floors are a bit uneven. Capped off well as a feature in lower bar area. Large outside area. Nice and warm inside on a chilly evening. Good beer and excellent burgers. Conveniently located near Tower Ramparts bus station and a short walk to both The Regent and New Wolsey theatres.

Nice staff and good environment

Unfortunately nice pub but the kitchen always closes early due to the chef deciding that the kitchen is closed over hour before the advertised food hours. This has happened a number of times now with people trying to order food but no chef to cook it, was discussed with the bar staff but they are left trying to explain because of a lazy chef. Feel sorry for the managers/owners who are being let down.

My favourite pub in Ipswich and it is your typical pub that attracts all walks of life and caters for anybody. Countless times over the years I have met up with friends or taken my partner for night out at the halberd and never left disappointed

Friendly experience. Not a lot of real ales. Just DoomBar and Landlord on this occasion. But at least SOME! So one of the best pubs in the town.

Nice food, great outside area. The little huts are a nice touch. Frequently go here with mates.

One of the most miserable bar men I have ever had the displeasure of getting served by. Was merley looking at the menu and he snapped "We aren't serving until 5pm" .... then ordered a drink. No please. No thank you. We will be avoiding this place in future.

Cajun chips are very special....out of the way place that is a great bolt hole. Good service and plenty of seating .nice for a group..

We were watching the football, then the manager asked us to leave as my little brother was with us. There was clearly other underage people in the pub. So we asked why it was only us that had to leave. He said that he IDed the other people but we knew that was a lie as we knew he was underage. I asked why it says 9 online and he made a rude sarcastic moment back.

We are new to Ipswich and were delighted to discover The Halberd , a friendly atmospheric village pub in the middle of town. It also happens to have the most wonderful burgers (even better than Hard Rock Cafe) especially those with added brisket beef. They are so perfect it's hard to try anything else on the menu but sure it will be equally as good. An added bonus is that they are dog friendly. Can't wait for the summer when we can sit in their spacious outside area. What a great find! 😀

Nice place to spend a Saturday afternoon with a pint or two of Doom Bar and a burger. Plenty of sport on the screens too.

This was a wonderful cosy pub for a quiet drink one evening. The interior is so nicely done up that you really feel at home and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The bar staff were friendly, there’s a superb range of drinks and all the prices were reasonable. I can’t wait to return to sample the food and some of the outdoor areas of this brilliant pub!

Ordered the flame grilled chicken burger, chef kindly replaced my chips with salad at my request.....the chicken was beautiful...the staff were very polite and attentive, remember ed our drinks from previous visit....thoroughly enjoy the whole meal ....will be returning soon

Friendly staff, resident sausage dog, great selection of rum and other spirits. They have a big, heated beer garden with lots of shelter and an events room and a top level that can be hired out. There's also a well that you can sit around and stare into the abyss after your 11th rum and coke.

Great outside space including wooden booths with power sockets, usb connections and heaters. Good local real ale, we did have a look at the lunch time menu and thought that the prices were a bit high hence the 4 stars. Good service.
