Love this pub. The first time we called we met John who was behind the bar. What a lovely man. He made us laugh from the off. He entertained us up until we left. The second time we went we were disappointed John wasn’t there but his son in law ( the landlord) and his son were equally entertaining. What interesting people. So friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. You could have a small portion if you wanted. Had sherry trifle for desert which was stunning. Everything was reasonably priced. Would highly recommend and will be going back definitely.

Lovely traditional pub. Limited range of beers on draught, but the Tribute I had was well kept and really hit the spot. Friendly, attentive service from the family who run the place. Spotless and well cared for. No obvious signs of having been "modernised" recently, but why change a winning formula? Tasty home cooked food from a range of classic pub options - everything with chips or jacket (choose chips, they were really good!) and salad or peas. The menu was varied enough to please everyone (steak, gammon, stew, lasagne, curry) but short enough to believe that it isn't just all frozen and microwaved. Lots of space outside plus a children's play area. We didn't explore this, but would be welcome in better weather! Plenty of parking in car park opposite, or in easy walking distance from the campsite at Dan-yr-Ogof - just cross over the road and head down the quiet lane.

Popped in for a drink after walking all day to by greeted by a rude barman who did not engage in any conversation whatsoever. We only stayed for one drink and then walked to the other pub nearby as we felt uncomfortable around the barman. A proper pub selling good old fashioned pub grub, run by one family and all home made food including the chips. Service was good food seemed to be cooked fresh to order, Would recommend the chicken curry. Sherry trifle was lovely to with plenty of sherry in it. Apple crumble would probably be best served cold with cream or ice cream. Pub is well kept lovely and clean. Just off the main road down from Dan yr Ogof show caves. Well worth a visit if your passing.

£15 for standard Sausage egg n' chips? The prices here are ridiculous, basically because the pub is guaranteed tourists hiking the local trails and leaving Dan Yr ogof caves, so they really don't have to try hard to be competitive. But still, the menu is extremely pedestrian, just slightly above school dinners. The pub is lovely and cosy, with a *half* decent playground for kids. With a little effort and investment, this place might actually be good, but I recommend giving it a wide berth to be honest. 4 of the most bog-standard meals, no drinks or desert =£56 Nope.

Bar man was snarky, made comments and eyeballed us the moment we walked in as hikers. We went in to order food and have a pint after being out in the sun all day. A friend was looking for a socket and he stopped us ordering to say chargers had to be pac tested so we wouldn't charge. As I went to a pint, asked me multiple times what I wanted as he was looking at our table. Told us we couldn't eat out own sandwiches with a smirk on his face and roll of the eyes... Explained to him that was a teddy and we'd take out custom elsewhere following the attitude. He proceeded to tell us that we'd have a bit of a walk. I'll take the walk over the attitude. The landlord was rude and unpleasant and most unwelcoming and if I hadn’t have paid for the drinks I would have left as the cider was off and I asked him to change the pint and he said there was nothing wrong with it. He said the plastic containers were expensive and I should bring them back in the pub when finished. I had no till receipt for the drinks and when I challenged the price he said it would be £5 mor at the Taganrog up the road. Stay away from this place as he clearly doesn’t want customers and he looked scruffy and if I could give no * then I would. They don’t deserve anyone’s patronage.

The most rude owners I’ve ever come across. My husband and two friends had spent the day walking and asked me to pick them up at this pub as they were going to have a drink on one of their benches outside. I arrived and realised I had no signal and so went in to check to see if they were already there. I had a brief exchange with the man behind the bar and two customers. The customers were nice, the lady was on the phone and the barman had about as much charisma as a brick. I went outside and I saw my husband and his two friends walking down the road, and so I entered the pub again with the 3 men in tow. “I’ve found them” I said in a humorous manner which was not reciprocated. But never mind. So, we proceeded to order and I felt a frosty vibe from the barman. My husband wanted a Guinness and the conversation went as follows: Barman - inside or out? Us - out then please. Barman- right then plastic glasses then. By now my husband pulled a little face in jest and said “oh no not plastic” …as Guinness definitely tastes different in a plastic cup but either way we were still about to purchase. The barman became very aggravated and spoke to us in a disgusting manner considering we were about to be paying customers. “Well it’s your choice!!! Do you want it or not?!”. I then replied with “ohh wow now” feeling very shocked that a man who was running a (then) completely empty pub wouldn’t be grateful for a bit of service. But he then he pointed at my husband and said “well he’s got the face on!”. I thought to myself how I’d kick myself for giving this man any money when being spoken to like that and I said “oh come on guys, let’s go somewhere else!” The barman became very irate and an exchange of words was said from him that I can’t quite remember. But I know it wasn’t pleasant. As we were walking to the door to leave we were all so annoyed by this rude man, my husband did say that the place was a s*it hole in retaliation as we were leaving. We were then literally followed out of the pub from one of the other customers that could very well be either a friend of the owners or a partner. A short little man. He basically told us he’d put us on the Behave or be Banned scheme and we’d not be welcome in any of the pubs in the valley 😂😂. We tried to explain that that’s not what the BoBB scheme is about and that whether pleasant or not, we are allowed to express our opinion. I’m not saying what my husband said was morally right but the service and reception we had was disgusting and to be totally honest… was warranted. Id rather them collapse from thirst after their hike then pass over any money to the miserable, and rude people we encountered. We went to another beautiful pub in the area, told them about our experience and they laughed. Had beautiful drinks and food and thoroughly enjoyed. I think this place wants/needs to chuck people in rather than out. Considering all other pubs in the area were full and this place is in a great hotspot for walkers etc, it was dead. Wonder why. I notice “Gail” responds to all negative reviews. I look forward to a laugh. Go on Gail.

I would definitely recommend this place. I had a beautiful dessert here. A brownie which looked like a cake. But it was beautiful . Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Lovely old building in brecon national park. The home cooked food was brilliant. Very tasty and very well portioned. Excellent service on top of all that makes it a must if you're nearby

Great place, nice food, really friendly landlord, I see a few reviews saying different, He's a character with good dry sense of humour, some just don't get it these days.

My friend and I popped in whist hiking the Beacons way for dinner. The hosts were so friendly and the food was amazing! Quite possibly the best chicken curry and chips I have ever had! They also very kindly cooked us up some food and packaged it so we could take it on the rest of our hike. Nothing was too much trouble. I wish I was hiking that trail again just to pop back in!

The food and service were both excellent. Our family arrived just as the kitchen was closing but were still able to order and not be rushed through our dinner. All three of our meals were tasty and very filling. This is a family run business...

First time here since new owners and definitely won't be the last. There was a good choice, plentiful sized portions and piping hot, sensibly priced . The staff were friendly and attentive, highly recommend and definitely return.

Excellent selection of hot drinks, including specials. The butterscotch latte is lovely. Friendly, efficient & quick service Good menu choice with traditional cafe favourites. If you get a window table you get to watch the world go by. If its a dry day there is plenty of outdoor seating

The Raven appeared to be fiendly the food was as expected but what really upset us was as we were leaving one of the staff approached us and in front of a busy bar asked "Have you paid " Luckily my husband always asks for a receipt when paying by card . This was so embarassing as we had taken a relative that we were visiting out for lunch. Not inpressed What would of happened if we had not had the receipt .
