The Gun Room at Plas Dinas in Gwynedd

There are only a few restaurants in Europe, to which we regularly return and The Gunroom is one. We are never let down by the quality of service or the special ambience afforded but most of all by the quality and excellence of the food and how it is cooked. On our last visit we sampled fish cookery at its best when the Plaice literally melted in the mouth and tantalised the palate. However, even more so, and as I am not one for getting excited by puddings, the Simnel sponge literally played tricks with the taste buds. Great combinations of complementary spice and fruit - what a joy! We will be returning again. Strongly recommend.

Booked in for afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary. We were greeted at the door by a lovely friendly chap, who guided us to the restaurant and our table. Service was not rushed and very friendly. The tea selection was great with the food being very very nice, well presented and full of flavours. We have had a lot of afternoon tea's, but this has become our firm favourite. Beautiful place. Highly recommend.

We were welcomed into Plas Dinas by a lovely young man and shown into the beautiful drawing room. We were served a delicious taster of mushroom and ginger consommé, followed by delicious canapés and pre dinner drinks. After selecting our menu choices we were escorted to the cosy dining room. Each course was presented beautifully, the intensity of flavours just wonderful. We particularly enjoyed the surprises of flavour combinations, e.g sorbet with fennel pollen, just wow! The lamb was cooked to perfection as was the plaice. The whole evening was comfortable, the staff quietly attentive without being intrusive. The environment was elegant and calm. I’m looking forward to returning to Plas Dinas for another excellent experience.

My OH had booked dinner in advance when we were staying nearby and overall we couldn't fault the experience. The Plas Dinas hotel is a beautiful house previously the home of the Armstrong-Jones family and is a perfect setting for the Gunroom restaurant. The menu changes every month and had a good mix of fish, meat and vegetarian options. The food was excellent in every way; all courses were cooked perfectly and flavours / textures complimented oneanother well. Portion sizes were just right. Including the numerous canapes, appetizers and pre-dessert courses our bill was a whisker over £200 which I thought was reasonable given the level of the dining experience. Service was excellent too. We'll definitely come again when we're in the area again.

This is the sixth or seventh time my wife and I have been in the past year. The food, as usual, is excellent. The service, as usual, is excellent. First time we stayed (we only live 30 minutes away), as this was my wife's birthday, and the room was in keeping with everything else at Plas Dinas, excellent. Of course we will be going back.

The food is superb, the wine choices very good and the service excellent. We dined here last week on two nights whilst staying at Plas Dinas and couldn't fault the Gunroom. We would recommend it to anyone.

This is our fifth visit to The Gunroom and still produces a first class experience. We live on Anglesey and enjoyed it so much that we booked for a four day break just before Christmas in the Gatekeepers Lodge. We have just visited again on the 30th January for our Wedding Anniversary. The food was exemplary with every mouthful a flavour burst. The truffle rosti was wonderful. Plas Dinas is a beautiful country manor and makes for a very special night. The staff are efficient polite and attentive. We will be back soon as every time we visit the food maintains a fantastic standard and a different experience of culinary delights. Congratulations to everyone who works in this establishment to maintain such a very high standard. Sue

Had a lovely afternoon tea, here today. All the food was fresh. Variety of cakes, and fresh warm scones. Well worth a visit, friendly staff, and it's in a lovely part of wales, with a lot of history.

We recently went for a meal to celebrate my birthday to The Gunroom Restaurant at Plas Dinas Country House and we weren’t disappointed. The staff were friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. They went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful time. The food was first class and the extra courses that we weren’t expecting were also delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning in the near future.

This was our second visit to the Gunroom, and this time visited with our families. Once again we could not fault the experience; the food was superb, the atmosphere relaxing, the staff were amazing and the hosts welcoming. This is not just a meal out, but an occasion in itself where every aspect has been carefully considered to maximise enjoyment. One of our party has a nut allergy and the whole team were very aware , conscious and educated towards his needs. We will definitely be back.

Treated ourselves to our local restaurant The Gunroom, a group of 5 friends. We were expecting a great dining experience as we’ve always heard consistently positive reviews and I had visited before and thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the experience. This was my friends first time at The Gunroom. We were all beyond impressed. From the moment we arrived, the serene ambience and the service was subtly attentive and most efficient. The food….heavenly, divine, out of this world, just perfect. We feel so fortunate to have an eatery of the highest standard on our doorstep. Perfect and wonderful!

Meal for two to celebrate a birthday, four years after our first visit to The Gun Room but we will not be leaving it that long before returning as the food was outstanding and service exemplary. The chef has a brilliant pallet and bring =s local produce to the plate with great skill and flair. Bethany and Sam looked after us really well and the traditional ambience made for a very relaxed evening. Each course brought complex flavours and the whole experience has left us eager to return.

I recently stayed at Plas Dinas with my husband and dined in the Gunroom for a special anniversary meal. Wow, what can I say to do this amazing place justice. The food is out of this world, one of the best meals we have ever had! We both enjoyed every course thoroughly. My husband particularly enjoyed the Cod dish and I adored the Blackberry dessert. It was such a special evening, made even more special by the attentive, knowledgable and friendly team…. Will definitely be returning soon.

We arrived in the drawing room for canapes prior to dinner, this was such a treat. Drinks were very well presented and tasted divine. Canapes consisted of a mini charcuterie and then a savoury cheese doughnut, the perfect way to start the experience. Moving onto the starter of Venison tartar with cornichons- very well presented and again tasted great! The small surprises in between each course were very well received, and added to our special evening. My wife ordered the Fillet of Beef, it was melt in your mouth and was cooked to perfection. The dessert was a chocolate lovers heaven when paired with a glass of port. Overall I'd summarise that this experience was "Out of this World" and something I would highly recommend. Well done team Gunroom and Plas Dinas!

From the greeting onwards this was an a wonderful experience. The food was exquisite, everything looked amazing and delighted the taste buds. The service was top drawer; Bethany in particular was faultless. A wonderful place to celebrate our anniversary. Can't believe we've not been before, we'll certainly return.

I highly recommend ‘The Gunroom’ for amazing food, the service was the best you could ask for, we were looked after all evening by lovely ‘Bethany’ thank you young lady for making our evening even more special. We went to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary and was not disappointed, the building and the interior furnishings, paintings are outstanding, a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the best locally sourced food you could wish for. We will be returning again in the very near future, thanks once again for a fabulous evening.

Whilst vacationing in the area I had to return to this venue after 13 years. I had very affectionate memories and wanted to re-live a few special moments. Sadly, over a time slot mix up, my arrival to have pre-dinner drinks and view the vista was abruptly cut short. The time slots are understandably adhered to very strictly however my heckles were raised whilst shuffling straight into the restaurant. Determined to enjoy the experience, a rapid Martini, rapidly ordered and with the FOH gentleman rapidly wishing to prepare it almost without listening to my specific guidance as to how I liked it........somewhat reduced the heckles. The young man and lady serving were the height of courtesy and politeness throughout. Efficient and yet unhurried (which was a pleasant distraction from the FOH gentleman flying through the restaurant every few minutes...). Food-wise - some absolute delights. Great snacks, superb veloute and warmed bread, Duck starter - all sublime. Very disappointed with the Cod main. The dish doesn't work for me. Fish was dry, tempura undercooked and overall a dry dish which needs something to bring it together. Sadly another failing which is not acceptable at such venues was that my side vegetable order was clearly forgotten and was brought out nearly 10 minutes after sitting watching my Cod main scratching its head wondering whether to jump back in the sea. When the side order eventually reared its head, it was returned unceremoniously by me. Sorbet, super pre-dessert tart au citron, outstanding Pineapple pudding. Very eclectic wine list - the Meursault exceptionally so ( I even bought an extra bottle as take-out together with a local Welsh wine to try). I took coffee and digestives (but no XO Cognac!?) outside offering the vista viewing opportunity which was very pleasant. Overall, it wasn't always the idyllic chapter to commence my memoirs with, however, I'm a pedantic diner for which I make no apologies. Had the first 10 minutes sailed on calmer waters I have no doubt that my sensitive disposition would have embraced some of the relatively small misdemeanours with more humour. I very much hope that their obvious success continues and that a return visit shall be on the cards before another 13 years has past by.

We planned a special meal to celebrate our anniversary so pick the gun room due to seeing excellent reviews for it.The meals were beautifully presented and tasted exquisite. However, I was let down by a small piece of lead pellet found in the pigeon’s breast, which could have broken my tooth.I gave it to the waiter and asked him to show the chef.No one came to explain or apologise, they just ignored the issue! Given that it was our special day so we didn’t want to make any fuss but would have expect at least an apology.Overal the meal was good the staff were attentive throughout but because of the non responsiveness to the lead pellet which upset me. Therefore I have to give it a low score.

Overall we had a lovely, lovely evening. Fabulous service and food. The pre starters included haddock and a lovely sausage roll type creation. We had already informed the restaurant well ahead of our booking that neither my partner nor I can eat seafood and the gentleman had made a note. When the complimentary haddock came along we were a little surprised and the waiter took it away and apologised for the error. My ONLY gripe was that it was not replaced with anything... I expected the waiter to return with something else or perhaps a bread basket? Just what I would expect having eaten at many nice restaurants. But overall a lovely evening.

Excellent cuisine nicely served-highly recommended; be aware that the evening passes quickly and the 10pm 'Covid watershed' needs watching! Hopefully that wont go on forever......

Every part of the dining experience at the Gun Room is exceptional. From the moment we arrived and were shown to the beautifully appointed drawing room, to the service of the two very professional young members of waiting staff. We were very well looked after. The meal was absolutely delicious, and the additional unexpected courses were delicious too; our compliments to the chef and kitchen staff behind the scenes. The portion sizes are generous, the presentation was beautiful and we hope one day to return and maybe stay in the Hotel too.

Booked dinner for my boyfriends birthday after reading the glowing dinner reviews. From start to finish it was perfect. We were shown to the lavish drawing room for a cocktail and an amuse-bouche and to select our starters, mains, desserts and wine. We were then taken into the gun room, which had a romantic and cosy ambience. As well as three deliciously decadent and perfectly portioned courses, we also enjoyed a soup, a palette cleansing sorbet and a mini posset. We selected a local welsh white wine, as we’d visited a local vineyard earlier in the day and had been thoroughly impressed. The staff were really friendly and accommodating, and the social distancing was adhered to. It was £48 per person (excluding cocktails and wine), which was exceptional value for money for a delicious 7 course dinner. Highly recommend for a special occasion!

This is more than just going for dinner, it’s a whole experience. The sitting room where you have drinks pre dinner is full of family and royal memorabilia and a great place to feel sophisticated and to choose your food for the evening.Starters, mains and puds are chosen, with another 3 courses slipped in between.The wine list was reasonably priced, and finishing the meal back in the sitting room was a nice way to finish the evening.This isn’t probably a weekly destination, but a great place for a special meal.Thanks you Plas Diana’s, we loved you!

I visited recently to try the afternoon tea. I had high expectations based on reviews of the food in general and I wasn’t disappointed! The afternoon tea (we upgraded to get the extra savouries) was really lovely. Everything was fresh and tasty. Loved the savoury delicacies and the scone in particular! The setting is beautiful and it felt like a real treat. The only minor comment is that service (although good) could have been a little more attentive- we had to request more tea and water- a little check in from the waiter / waitress part way would have been appreciated. I look forward to visiting for an evening meal soon!

Four covers on a quiet Saturday afternoon. We upgraded to include the Lamb Sausage Roll, Pork Pie and Buck Rarebit Crumpet.The overall presentation was great although the two joined tables were not big enough to accommodate all the offerings at one go (Scones, Jams and Cream on the windowsill till required)Our waiter was friendly and helpful. The food was, in fairness, delightful. Possibly the best scones ever, which I found annoying, as I was convinced mine were the best If there were any negatives, and this is being very picky, I would have expected the crumpets to be warm and it would have appeared more professional if the jam and cream had been served in dishes/bowls, rather than the suppliers’ individual pots.Overall, a really nice experience and worth the price.

This place could have a Michelin star no problems (it is on the guide). I had the cheese fondant to start followed by the fillet steak and the best triple cooked chips I've ever had. The steak was cooked perfectly and was accompanied with a lovely jus. My partner had the lambe which was also amazing. Complimentary canapes are served before the meal which were a nice touch. I just hope this covid 19 issue doesn't impact you guys too much as it would be a dreadful shame lose such a beautiful resteraunt and hotel. I love places that give you amuse bouche and this one does. The setting is small and intimate. Food is absolutely fantastic...where is its Michelen Star? It deserves one. Every single course was super tasty. They also have some fantastic patagonian wines.

Had the pleasure of two evenings in this amazing restaurant. On both occasions the chef overwhelmed us with such amazing culinary delights.

We received the Festive Afternoon Tea for two as a 70th birthday present from my daughter. I thought I knew N Wales moderately well but this hidden gem came as a complete surprise. ( Lord Snowdon ancestral home. ) Upon arrival we were welcomed warmly by the new tenant and given a brief tour of the stunning house. The festive afternoon tea was an absolute delight, all meats used in the sandwiches were thickly sliced and were clearly freshly home roasted with just the right amount of very tasty trimmings. The delicately spiced sausage roll was a true masterpiece. The patisseries were a delight and beautifully presented with the new tenant taking the time an trouble to explain each tasty morsel on the plate. The experience was accompanied by delicious coffee and a complimentary glass of warm mulled wine. Every member of the team was extremely pleasant and attentive. This was an afternoon tea with a difference due to the setting and the quality of food on offer . I would personally thank management at Plas Dinas for a delightful afternoon and wish them every success with their venture.

Visited last Friday with my wife and we were blown away with the food! It's a three course menu,but you get soup cup before the first course and also a pallet cleanser after the starter. The pallet cleanser we had was amazing (passion fruit mojitos) never tasted anything like it!! Venison starter was amazing and the Guinea fowl I had for main cooked perfectly. Can't recommend this restaurant enough. Great food and value for money

Food was delicious, great atmosphere, lovely restaurant with fantastic attentive service, great wines too

The house itself is beautiful, full of character and style, but with a relaxed atmosphere. We were greeted warmly by staff, and after a cocktail and 'nibbles'shown through to our table. The food was wonderful, served by young staff who did a really excellent job, and the complimentary drink sent to congratulate us on our anniversary was a really nice touch. All in all I would definitely highly recommend this place, if you want to feel special, experience great food and drink go!

We were staying at Plas Dinas and dined here twice. Outstanding. The smokey (haddock In a creamy sauce / soup) was a thing of beauty. Good service, great room and atmosphere. Really very good.

Although Plas Dinas is practically on our doorstep, this was our first visit. As, compared to other local eateries, it is rather expensive, especially if you want to make it a regular ‘eating out ’ .

We recently stayed at Plas Dinas for 2 nights and ate in the Gun Room on one of the evenings.

We stayed at the hotel and had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent you definitely need to book as it is quite small but well worth a visit. The menu is small but varied and of a high quality the wine prices are very reasonable and I would eat there again. We had wood pigeon and seafood starters and mink fish and steak mains cheese and biscuits to finish all excellent
