The two male owners are the most delightful people; friendly, efficient & welcoming hosts. The ambience is first-class, & breakfast was fantastic. This is a gem. Parking is tricky, but with some jockeying can be accomplished quite easily. We had a brilliant stay there.

A very comfortable and nicely furnished hotel. The room was spacious with a large bed, good quality linen and towels, as well as bath robes. The breakfast menu was varied, containing the usual full meal, but also tasty options of pancakes or salmon. Ideal location in the centre of Dolgellau.

Really nice stay in comfortable room. Hosts incredibly welcoming. Very comfortable beds. Town is a little dead in February which meant we missed having the restaurant on site(this has now closed indefinitely) so this is essentially a luxury B and B. Great breakfast.

Absolutely amazing stay here and big thank you to Nick n Mike for wonderful hospitality. We stayed on the top floor overlooking the front of the hotel. Sleep quality was very good. The hotel is mint with a real feel of opulence. Parking is achieved by a remote car park a couple of minutes walk away and is safe and cheap. Breakfast in the morning is basically any combination you could imagine - I had sausages sandwich which was perfect. Definitely return to these guys - very impressed. Well done Nick and Mike - treat yourselves to a defender 😁

Dear Nick and Mike, Sorry we didn't see you yesterday evening but I should like to say that Dafydd and Jen looked after us in a most friendly and efficient way. Compliments to the chef for the food which as ever, was very much enjoyed by us all. Night cap drinks we had when we got home complimented a really nice end to what had been for me, a lovely birthday day.

From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with a smile by name which started off a special evening. All the servers were super friendly, and led us down to the very cosy cellar restaurant. We had the pate and spinach ricotta pasta to start, then the herb pie and the fillet steak for main. The herb pie was tasty and certainly different from anything I’ve had before (and potentially a little too fragrant for some), and the steak was done perfectly as requested. Along with a small glass of wine plus tip, it came to £70, which was a little expensive but we knew we were paying for the atmosphere when we booked which was worth it. It was a great way to end our holiday.

Four of us ate here on the first Saturday of January and I only hope that all other meals this year are as good. The service was great, engaging, attentive, informal (but not too much) and welcoming. The food was very good, from the artichoke and rosemary soup, lamb, loin of cod, fillet steak and a vegetarian Wellington. All were cooked well and served with a wide selection of fresh vegetables. Sadly, the table next to us had the last of the Christmas themed crumble but the ‘back up’ apple and pear crumble with calvados was nothing like a second fiddle. There’s a good selection of wines and local beers, including a lager from Bala that was a refreshing opener. In summary,!we agreed it was one of the nicest meals we’d had for while, and we’ll be back before too long.

Never eaten here before, was looking forward to New Year’s Eve and found this place which had good reviews. The ambiance was lovely, the staff were very friendly and efficient, sadly the food could have been made by a child and was a rip off even for New Year’s Eve. The starters were straight out of a packet and put on a plate, the main courses were all the same with just different meat/or not and the deserts weren’t even worth mentioning, basically icecream or mince pie with a bit of crumble on the top. I get that people are struggling to retain chefs, but if they want to retain customers they need to be honest and that needs to be reflected in the price. Rip off.

Had a lovely meal here over Summer - meat and fish dishes cooked perfectly by all accounts, good friendly service and a pleasant ambience in a lovely building. However lovely the Ottolenghi herb pie was (and it was), two of us felt it lacked a side to balance the richness of the butter and feta cheese, and the unrelenting bitterness of the herbs. The great man himself suggests that it be served with a tomato and red onion salad; this simple addition would make all the difference. I reckon a nice piquant red pepper sauce or muhammara would also do the trick.

We've just had a brilliant fist experience at the Y.M. Superb food, ambiance and service. Can't fault it! 3 Steaks -all cooked perfectly to the order, 1 lamb rump (mine) and even as fab as the steaks looked I had NO food envy...my lamb was pink and luscious with creamy mash and a delightful faggot (!?!?!). Some of us had starters, other dessert and it was all excellent. The wine choice is super and the price all round more than reasonable for the quality of the whole evening. We can't wait to return and maybe try the cellar/jail bit!

This is a lovely quaint small hotel with the best restaurant in town. We stayed for 3 nights - ate here twice for dinner - restaurant closed on Sunday. Dolgellau is a fairly small town but the hub of local nightlife so can be quite lively on a Friday & Saturday night with the adjacent pubs The service and staff are excellent and the hosts go out of their way to chat to you and give tips about the area. After our booking had fallen through, we had to find an alternative. Y Meirionnydd – ‘a townhouse providing rooms, restaurant and bar’, looked beautiful online. The restaurant is in the lower, medieval cellar that up until 1815 housed the County Jail so we headed there, not feeling very hopeful. Now, it was pretty obvious that the place was fully booked but the Maitre’d took one look at us and asked if we’d booked elsewhere in town. I confirmed that we had and it hadn’t been exactly what we expected and he’d clearly heard our tale before and was seemingly determined to make up for any unpleasant Dolgellau experiences.A half an hour later and we were sat in a lovely dining room about to start one of the tastiest and most enjoyable meals ever.I’d salmon to start and it was just so scrumptious – dry and earthy – if a fish can be described in that way – and so flavourful. He had the pate which again, surpassed expectations. It also had just the right amount of toast – which pate lovers will know, only rarely happens. For our mains, he’d the salmon and I’d a Breton style poussin. I don’t know what exactly I’d been expecting but look! Just look at the deliciousness!Usually we’re a very share and share alike couple – but it was only very begrudgingly that we gave each other a taste that night! After the main course, the incredibly friendly Maitre’d reappeared. He’d just cleaned off a table for us downstairs, if we’d like to take our dessert in the restaurant. So despite not booking, chancing our arm last minute and being treated to a fantastic meal – we also experienced the medieval county jail restaurant experience! It was such such a lovely thing to offer and that’s why we ordered dessert*.I’d a pineapple crumble with vanilla ice cream while he had an exclusive Penderyn Welsh whisky and honey ice-cream. We floated out of the place. So – if in Dolgellau, please check out Y Meirionnydd – the townhouse is lovely and beautifully decorated. The staff were efficient, friendly and kind. And the food – good grief the food was just fabulous.*This is an outright lie. The proportions for the starter and mains were just perfect. We were satisfied and happy…and absolutely going to have dessert no matter where we were sat!

We have dined here before, on several occasions and have never been disappointed. We usually have the steaks, the best in the area in our opinion, but on this occasion we had lamb. A good choice. The Meirionydd is right up there as one of our very favourite restaurants. We've eaten here probably 4 times in the last few years and have always been delighted. So this time we booked a two night stay in the room Meirion. No complaints whatsoever with the accomodation, it was warm, tastefully decked out, and a super comfy bed. Dinner both nights was as perfect as ever, served up by the most attentive and welcoming people. Marc, Nick, and the wonderful lady front of house go way beyond the call of duty in making us feel at home. Breakfast was just as we anticipated, I had the full English, and my wife had pancakes, great coffee, and cereals, yoghurt etc. All cooked wonderfully, and top notch produce without a doubt. Incase it's not quite clear , this is somewhere we loved from our first visit approximately 5 years ago, and will now become a regular place for a weekend treat away.

Good evening last Saturday. Welcome was good; drinks at the Bar very good choice; nice table. The food is relatively simple on the plate but freshness and flavour were very good; for example the carrots with the pork main were great. The desserts were excellent and the all Welsh cheeseboard lovely and not mean like others we encounter. Service was very well paced given there was not a spare table to be seen. Their wine list is very well chosen and for me very fairly priced. The Brazilian white was a first for us and very interesting and the Portuguese Riberio del Duoro was a good example of this wine.

What an amazing hotel. Rooms, food, hosts were all exceptional. On our next visit to Dolgellau this will be the first place to stay on our list. Make it yours too!!

Several years ago my wife and I with two friends stayed here and had an unexpectedly gorgeous meal. High time then that we all returned to see what had happened to Y Meirionnydd. Well, it had just got better! The welcome, the bedrooms, and the meals were absolutely excellent and we were extremely sorry to leave after just three nights. I won't go into detail (do people really want to know exactly what we chose for dinner, or how high was the shower pressure?) Just go. you cannot possibly be disappointed.

Contemporary hotel/restaurant in the country town of Dolgellau. Easy to find with limited parking to the front. Welcoming staff to a cosy, relaxed atmosphere. Downstairs restaurant has very low beams along the ceiling with slate steps. Upstairs area available for those with walking difficulties. Service was quick and food was delicious.

A fantastic cosy basement restaurant in the heart of Dolgellau town. Even though I'm local I had never visited. Won't be making that mistake again. Wonderful food, fantastic service, great place to eat and socialise.

We ate here in the evening, and had a fabulous meal in their basement restaurant - very cosy (be careful of your head if you are tall! although they are very careful with padded beams to avoid injury.) Great food - we had a special fish and chips with 4 types of fish in tempura batter. Friendly knowledgeable staff, highly recommended.

Went for dinner a few weeks ago. Very pleasant and helpful staff, nice building - love the basement restaurant. Food was very tasty and well presented. No-one rushing us to hurry up and leave!

Ate here twice whilst on holiday in the area. On both occasions the food impressed. Even though we were eating off the same menu, there was plenty of choice. On one occasion I had steak which was beautifully cooked and really tender. The other time I opted for the fish and chips which was equally good. We ate in the basement restaurant which is really cosy, but not at all claustrophobic because of the natural light coming in from an external door. The tables are well spaced out and the seating very comfortable. The staff are an absolute delight. Very efficient and friendly. Would definitely return here if I'm ever in the area.

Excellent service, top quality food from this place. We had the three course menu and you pay a fair price for what you get and I would say the dark chocolate torte I had for desert was the best I have ever had.

Been visiting Dolgellau for over 20 years and never visited this very good restaurant - so for a first pleasantly surprised by the food drink ambience and attention to detail - will return and lamb was excellent !

Couldn't fault this restaurant in any way - we were seated in the atmospheric basement - formerly a jail I believe. Service was prompt and friendly and drinks were soon on the table. My pate starter and main lamb dish were both delicious. House red wine in a carafe was more than palatable. Would love to return at some point.

Best food in Dolgellau, and probably the south Snowdonia region. We stayed in Dolgellau a week and ended up visiting here 3 tines. Each time the food was delicious and service excellent. I particularly recommend the lamb but all the dishes looked tasty. The gooseberry crumble was also very good.
