Did book a table but the pub was not really busy menu choice was good we both opted for the carvery option and while the choice is not as good as a toby we felt that the quality was far better well worth a visit

Tables sticky needed to be cleaned more t houroughly. vegetarian food was a extremely staĺe rolls for haĺlomi. fishfinger sandwiches were ok but not worth price and just basic food. Won't comeback again.

Average fare...long wait for meals...bland food. Sorry, I would avoid the place unless they up their game. 2 stars because the staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean, but the food was lackluster. (I had the fish and chips....my spouse had the carvery)

Richard T and Jamie were the two chefs on the Sunday carvery, I was here with friends and we all agreed it was one of the best carveries we've had in a while! Thank you Richard T and Jamie 🤩

Long wait for food. Over 45minute wait for food for other friends on next table. Ordered on app- no mention of wait time on site and staff didn’t come to table to explain wait time. Only ordered halloumi fries but this took 30mins. Pub appeared busy from drinks point of view but not much seen coming out of kitchen or even for carvery.Food ok- typical pub grub just pricey as you’re paying for seaside privileges.

The food was lovely, so much of it, we planned on a main meal and pud but couldn't manage a pudding, staff were very polite and helpful, lovely area inside and out for children, dog friendly, big area outside, for when the wrayher is good, only downside some of the chairs were uncomfortable and wobbly, and some of the tables could do with a referb, will definitely visit again

6 of us + 2 small dogs. Great atmosphere,great service fast,friendly and very efficient. The carvery chef even gave the 2 dogs a few titbits of turkey. We've been twice this week and both visits were flawless. We'll definitely be returning here on our next Southport visit Can't recommend The Guelder Rose highly enough

Lovely food and staff, came for a birthday meal, carvery is excellent always enjoy coming here, ideally located and such a great selection of food and drink staff are always welcoming and really friendly

Food isn't normally bad here, tonight I had the steak and ale pie and it was diabolical, there was 3 piece's of meat in it, all gravy. I really should of sent it back. If you're eating here don't bother with the pies all pastry and no meat.

As usual, the Carvery provided us with a very good meal. On this occasion is was not as hot as it might have been but, overall, we were well satisfied with our meals.

Well, my story is we have tried to access The Guelder Rose prior to my review but only to have found out on entery that the pub is non dog friendly so we have been forced into the "cheap and cheerful" Hungry Horse option up the road which was on a par with just all things we didn't want to encounter. Anyway..... Tuesday 11 June 2024 i've taken my Solvakian in-laws to Southport for 2 nights. The dog friendly Hungry Horse option is closed. Google says The Guelder Rose is dog friendly as before only to find out it really isn't. So the 4 of us gamble, plus 1 dog, and head towards the Guelder Rose. Wow. On entery the place is perfect. Many tables are secluded to privacy and my dog is more than welcome, but only on the non carpet floor which is not a problem. Our 4 meals are perfect. Staff are welcoming and more than helpful. Drinks go down like drinks do. The Guelder Rose was so good we visited the next night and enjoyed the very same experience.

Good food, friendly efficient service and felt very safe with the Covid measures in place. Lovely meal, a pleasure to be out with family at this pub and feel safe, as lockdown restrictions ease.

I decided to explore Southport for a day then I was trying my best to find beer garden then I ordered fishless chips and mushy peas was tasty and piping hot and excellent food ever. I had americano was fantastic drink ever which is nice and warm. The staff was helpful and friendly being good mannered. I will be back again with my mates and my dad to teach them your carvery and good food.

I had the cheesy Nacho's. The cheese was a couple of processed cheese slices, melted on top. Not very good.

My husband and I had a lovely visit to guelder rose for our lunch The staff where all very friendly and attentive Food was very nice I had the chicken and bacon salad and my husband had the lasanage came out quick and hot nicely presented All the staff where very helpful and pleasant Great location on these lovely sunny days We will defiantly be back thank you for such a lovely experience in our first time being out in such a long time

We went to Southport on day out on the 17th April,and popped to the guilder Rose for a meal and drink.All staff very professional ,polite and very helpful.Everyone was in good spirits.Excellent customer service a credit to the manager,must be very proud of all the team,they kept everyone safe nothing was to much.We will deffo be coming back,credit to all the team and the chef.

First time back fantastic service good safety measures in place lovely outdoor seating with great distancing . I had sirloin steak hubby had steak and ale pie both were lovely thanks to all the staff your doing a fantastic job 😀

Came to the guilder rose the other day.nothing was to much trouble.We was greeted by a lovely lady called Clare,with a big smile and informed us all about the restrictions.The pub had a really good atmosphere with all the smiling saying hello.The pub was also very clean.We will deffo be returning ,staff was so nice,credit to the manager,the food was excellent,and at an reasonable price.very happy customer.

What can I say, food was delicious. Hot and very tasty. I had a lime and soda and it was the perfect strength. The social distancing was very well adhered to and everything was spotless but the staff are always the stand out here. Friendly and professional. It was a fab visit enjoying a new menu and we where extremely lucky to be recipients of the "bin the bill" promotion, we got our entire bill for free!! Thank you again guys! Xxx

The staff were great. Very, friendly polite and informative of the current restrictions. Everything felt safe and they were keeping everything clean. Food was lovely especially the carvery. Would definitely recommend.

Very good very covid secure and clean excellent service from all staff very helpful it was a joy to see the carvery enclosed behind a screen was much more hygienic hope this continues in the future . It was a joy to see the chef carving the meats really engaging with customers . And great value we will return.

Visited the guelder rose today (18th Oct}.We was greeted by a lovely team member,All aspects of social distancing and mask wearing where adhered to.The pub was busy at the time but staff was smiling and very polite.Very easy to order out food as a team member showed us how.The atmosphere was lovely hearing people laughing and chatting away.I had the carvery and my husband had steak.The carvery was amazing beef was cooked perfect,and for a medium plate you get loads.My husbands steak was cooked to perfection.Amazing value and Amazing food.Credit to the chef and the management team.

Went into the Guelder Rose last Sunday (11/10/20) staff where very friendly and good at recommending food, special mention to Abigail (i think this was her name, maybe Abbie?)who put in extra effort to make sure our meal was nice and that we had everything we needed

We visited with our two children on a Saturday afternoon after a long beach walk, because we were still in Covid lockdown, I figured it would be busy so I booked the day before making specific requests. Our son has autism and can be a handful, one of his quirks is he likes to sit near the bathroom doors so he can watch them open and close, he will only sit on specific locations so having visited before requested the booths that I knew he would find acceptable.On arrival my heart sank as that part of the restaurant was closed off to the public due to Covid, the girl informed me and I was about to walk when the young man Darren intervened and reassuringly took control of the issue and guided us to the exact table our son loves.He did not have to do that but displayed both empathy and professionalism and did his job in a balanced manner, as a customer service manager of many years it was refreshing to see true customer interaction actively demonstrated.We ended up spending £65 in little over an hour so good staff equates to more turnover simple really, sadly many businesses fail in this equation. Thank you, Darren, you are a credit to yourself and your company.

My friend and I called in for a coffee during out walk around and sat outside in the sunshine. NHS covid QR code for scanning on door. Socially distanced tables. Hand sanitiser available. Friendly young man behind the bar.I would certainly recommend and will visit again next time I'm in Southport.

Visited Guelder Rose Hotel Southport with my wife. Covid restrictions were in place. We were early for our meal so we had a drink in the outside seating area first. When we were ready to eat we went back inside, went through the track & trace procedures by a kind and pleasant lady and shown to our table. When our meal arrived it was really well cooked and my wife’s carvery was also very tasty and plenty of it. The inside of the restaurant was very clean, staff were friendly and worked exceptionally hard always with smiles on their faces. I was a little hesitant before I visited but when I’m in Southport again I’ll definitely re-visit this place. Well done everyone.

Firstly, what a location for a restaurant. Right next to the beach with great views of the sea from a well placed and busy sun terrace.Not an extensive menu, probably down to the current climate but we managed to get two of our favourites, scampi and steak and ale pie. Both of which were very nice.We managed to get a table for two without booking but I think we were quite lucky, I would certainly recommend booking a table as the restaurant was busy.Staff were pleasant and competent and all COVID-19 guidelines were being adhered to. Would certainly visit the Guelder Rose on our next visit to Southport.

We decided to go in for a bite to eat .Jack showed us to our table and gave us a menu.Whilst the menu wasnt very extensive there was enough choice for the 3 of us. My son went to order our food and after a short wait the food arrived.Personally I thought the food was well presented it was nice and hot. Whilst we were eating a member of staff approached the table to check if things were ok and if we needed another drink..My steak and ale pie was nice and the filling was nice but the pastry was a kibble bit on the hard side but not enough to complain over. My sons burger was quite thick and he said was tasty.My grand daughter who is just over 1 year old had fish fingers and chips she ate all off the fish fingers but left a couple of her chips.Overall we tiught it was value for money and Jack was very helpful and needs a special mention . If I was in the area again I would definately go back there.

Very well organised one way system blond lady at door had everyone in right place but was lovely with it.Food was good we had a carvery,veg was hot but roast potatoes were a bit hard and not as crispy as we would have liked .very friendly hard working staff

Visited the pub tonight for my sons 18th Bar staff all lovely, made a little fuss of him when buying his first legal drink. Food was all lovely as usual never had a bad meal.Covid safe criteria all set out very visably, if they weren't being adhered to staff approached to correct it. Waitress apologised and explained why meals where left for us to pass to each other rather than leaning over everybody which was fine with us. Tables all set out with plenty of room to move. A throughly enjoyable night.

Just been for a few drinks with my partner, went from outside to go to the toilet and unfortunately went through a no entrance door. The bar staff soon loudly called me up on it in front of a very large bar queue. If she'd been polite I wouldn't have minded but she almost shouted at me. Jeez we're all new to this. How embarrassing.

I Visited here tonight for my mum's Birthday, she had never been before but loved it. She said it was a nice cosy pub with a beautiful view to lookout too, with a lovely selection of food and a nice variety of vegetarian dishes.She had The aubergine bake with salad and garlic bread, she said it was full of flavour and very tasty.I had the beef burger with added cheese, very juicy, all arrived piping hot. Pub was very clean and tidy, staff were incredibly friendly, even had the manager Clare come and check everything was okay with our meal.Everyone was socially distant from each other. Would highly recommend and will be definitely be back soon.

Jack and Daren were extremly helpful makeing sure our tables were book for our vists, all safety measures are in place , we both had gammon on one occasion which was realy good and on another occaision we had carvarys you can now go up to the chef and ask for what you want on it, the chef was great he put on exactly what we wanted even dueing the busy times we never waited long . we have never been disappointed with this pub Claire and her team are fantastic thanks for everything guys xxx

Had a day out with daughter and grandchild and ate at the Guelder rose. Staff friendly and very helpful. Erin M made us relaxed and welcome. Food was generous amounts even for a child menu. COVID restructuring was good and not intrusive. Plenty of room between families. If gluten free there is a carvery and options on the menu. Outdoor seating not available if eating.

Always stop here when we are in Southport. We had fantastic weather so took advantage of all the outside space. One way system in effect along with sanitiser and queuing for drinks and ordering. Staff always friendly even though they were very busy

We visited on Sunday for a carvery and really enjoyed our meal, the meat was delicious, plenty of veg and all the trimmings all cooked nicely. I had the small plate but there was more than enough food for me, very generous portions. The staff were all really nice and welcoming, and took the time to chat and make us feel welcome, the pub felt safe and was constantly being cleaned which helped. We hope to visit again soon, would recommend this carvery to anyone.

More staff than customers!! staff were rude and no social distancing, staff were huddled together to take photos!! Ordered a burger came out dry and burnt.

Dried out bland. Can tell it was heated up in microwave. The veg was frozen and was mush. Wont be visiting again

First time out after lockdown ended and glad we booked. Customers were being turned away at 12.30PM due to limited capacity because of distancing. Otherwise the place is being run as normal as possible and there's a good atmosphere. Polite and quick service and good food. Minor complaint though, the chips aren't done enough, not crispy. Otherwise very good.

On arrival very warmly greeted and the rules of the hostelry explained regarding Covid etc. A serious view being taken which was pleasing to see. We were then shown to our table and given disposable menus. Orders for drinks and food were taken at the bar. Drink prices average. Deciding on a carvery, the chef serving was also extremely pleasant and amount of food to your requirement was served on a plate on a serving tray. The only let down were the roast potatoes which appear to have been kept warm all day and consequently dried out. The rest of the meal including the beef was good. Empty plates removed soon after finishing. The puddings which were very limited in choice appeared to me to have had portion sizes reduced, the ice cream instead of custard only equated to half a scoop and the apple pie would be good if you were on a diet.

went there today with my wife the lad on the door showed us to a table and explained everything and made us welcome also the the barstaff where very polite and friendly the food was bought to us by a very pleasant waitress who made sure throughout our meal we had everything we needed. we had the fish and chips which there was plenty of more then expected follow by a sweet everything was just perfect and I would highly recommend it for a great meal next time we visit we intend to try something else of the menu as I said PERFECT

Chocolate Cream & Warm Chocolate Chip Brownie Sundae ..We have been spoilt for choices alongside the nation with the government's #EATOUTTOHELPOUT scheme and in aid of supporting local establishments - a trip to the local pub ensued...One-way entry followed by greetings from an approachable and friendly host with socially well distance tables followed. There were options of paying at the table or at the bar, both making us feel very safe. Our only critism is the staff handling food were not wearing any PPE (Visors, masks or gloves) - although this isn't a government policy at the moment, we thought this could aid in putting more customers at ease. Food was of pub standard: warm and appropriate portion sizes. Overall, a comfortable and family friendly visit. Amazing!Me and my wife went out for dinner on Saturday evening to the Guelder rose and we opted for a scampi and a beef and ale pie. The service throughout was outstanding nothing was too much for anyone, everyone looked so happy and smiley.Met at the door by a gentlemen with glasses who went through all COVID restitctions with us and what has been done to make our visit safer. He was very polite and put our mind at ease as we were slightly nervous for coming out. The lady at the bar with brown hair gave amazing service, helped answer any questions that we had, and changed mash to chips for me. A real credit to the team, great customer service from this individual. Our food was brought over to us by a girl with brown hair in a bun. She was lovely. Stood talking to us about our holiday and recommended things for us to do in Southport. Lovely and friendly and nothing was too much for her, she got us more sauces throughout our meal and made sure it was all okay for us (the food was delightful). All staff seem very friendly and lovely. Will definitely be returning when we come back to Southport! Thank you!!

I visited last week with a friend on the eat out to help out days had soft drinks and crisps the girl on the till charged us full price when we mentioned that it should be 50 per cent off she snapped at us it was just on food. My friend spoke to manager and did get a partial refund but the way we were snapped at put us off ordering food

Refused me my drink as I only had a picture of my ID (which i guess is fair enough) but instead of offering me a new drink she put my refund on the table and walked away. Food was awful, I had a chicken burger which extremely dry which had very little salad on and the chips were cold and under cooked. My boyfriend had a beef burger which he also said was really dry and tasted rubbery. All round terrible pub/restaurant with even worse customer service

Visited for a meal yesterday evening. Group of 5 of us. We used the app at the table which allowed us to order all the food and drink at the table so we didn’t need to go to the bar at all.Food great, staff great, Covid measures excellent.

My boyfriend and I visited Guelder Rose on Thursday 13th August for lunch. We were greeted by a polite, smiley young lady who explained about the one way system, ordering systems and toilet location. We ordered the breaded mushrooms and soup to start which came quickly and was lovely. Then for mains we had the buttermilk chicken burger and chips and scampi and chips.....both great portion sizes and tasted delicious! Overall a very positive and pleasant experience. Highly reccommend

Arrived a couple of hours before our reservation time with the expectations of sitting outside for a few drinks before our allocated time. Met by a very friendly chap at the door where we explained what we wanted to do, which was no problem at all. Full safety precautions in place, lovely team who couldn’t do enough. Enjoyed a lovely few drinks sat in the sun, before we were welcomed inside for our reserved table. Food was delicious, quick service, felt welcome and safe. Thank you!

Popped in for drink was a really hot day was going to order food i was charged £9.30 FOR 2 PINTS OF BLACKCURRANT AND LEMONADE said to the girl i thought it was up to 50% off she barked back at me its food only!! Saw manager who gave me £3.25 back peed off so didn't bother eating there. Staff were rude and untrained in my opinion.

I'm not sure weather this was just a bad day for them buy me and my family visited today looking forward to a carvery after not having one for months due to lock down. I have to say to food was so bland,potatoes were so hard, coliflower cheese hardly any cheese,gravy flavourless and watery,Yorkshire pudding tasted like play dough I would say the beef was the nicest thing on plate. The staff seemed nice tho and was very polite but just disappointed with the flavourless food

We went on Tuesday and had the carvery when we walked in there was hand sanitizer at the door we where asked to pick up our own menus which was fine and then shown to our seats keeping distance at all times from the staff, once seated we chose what to eat and drink and when to the bar to order which was fine as there are plenty of markings on the floor telling you where to stand, it felt a little strange that they bought the carvery already plated up to the table but it was a really good sized portion we where stuffed afterwards, food was great and all the staff very pleasant and helpful we will be back thanks for making us feel safe away from others whilst we enjoyed our visit. The staff are doing a great job keep it up.

Nice food but very expensive for drinks. Very long waits but was very busy. Staff friendly and helpful.

I had the misfortune of dinning here the Pedigree ale pie was chewy and the gravy served separately would have been better with ice cream as it was like jelly also if the staff are going to talk about customers ie chap on carvery make sure the customer cant hear you speaking about them ? Enjoyed food had small plate carvery very tasty could have done with Been a bit hotter but it was tasty. Lovely pub very friendly and definitely would return and recommend. Great spot near beach and premier inn is close by. Seating inside and outside.very clean

We arrived in Southport on Monday, so booked The Guelder Rose. They didn't have some of our choices left, and when we went to order dessert, the kitchen had closed. Shame they didn't give us the heads up when ordering our meals.Staff were all friendly and chatty.

Manager was very helpful this am on a phone call . Whole experience was great , food , service and price . Staff polite and friendly . Excellent with the covid regulations .

Went on spec with the family. There staff are trained to the highest standards on covid safety. The food arrived after only 10 mins and was amazing (5 empty plates ). Will definitely return and highly recommend. 5 stars

Social distancing in operation but if you dine out doors you have to circumnavigate the premises to enter and show you receipt to use the loos. Bit stressful ordering and paying as only 2 pay points open hoped in would be worth it when food arrived. Have been here before but disappointed this time with the food a small amount of Luke warm chips and a small fish batter not bubbly and had a horrible tough spine the other meals not much to write home about passable just! Not the best place to eat and drink in southport on the plus side if you want close to beach location and family friendly this is the pub for you.very good with my daughter when she was giving the baby a bottle feed. I was offered a free drink by way of apology for the fish and chips. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Lip service paid to Covid Secure. Inside better than outside. Outdoor patio, tables crammed in, clearly marked entrance and exit is completely ignored and staff encourage you to come in through the exit. Tables not adequately sanitized between customers, I had to request our table to be cleaned twice. When it was ‘cleaned’ a rag was merely swished around the table whilst the server held sanitising spray but didn’t actually use it.

Darren gave us a lovely warm efficient welcome. Explained the policy in place to keep everyone safe. Joy who took our order was brilliant. Friendly and conscientious. Couldn’t tell she was new. The food was fresh and tasty and it was lovely to just feel back in a normal but safe environment again. Thank you to all at The Guelder Rose.

We called here whilst visiting southport with friends. As the day was sunny we chose to sit outside for to Covid a sanitizer was laced in the door way and the floor was marked out. The place looked very well kept and clean and all the staff looked on the ball so well done for that as you gained our custom for most of the afternoon as it was a different story later in town so we decided to come back and enjoy most of our afternoon in the sun sat outside and get some food. Very nice pub, lovely accommodating staff and I think one of not many in Southport sticking to the rules.

I was visiting my family here in Southport and decided to visit The Guelder Rose Pub for the second time on Sunday. The food was good for typical pub food and it was pretty fast considering how busy the restaurant was at the time. Our waitress Danni made us feel safe and welcoming and was always happy to help which was really nice. From a past experience a waitress has rolled her eyes at me and just wasn’t very friendly but Danni made us all feel comfortable in the Pub/restaurant. Good staff, nice manager I’ll be returning!

Missed my carvery since lockdown was created by the lovely Darren. Gerri was lovely and attentive throughout the visit beef was lovely and tender. Will definitely be going again soon.

Went today for our first meal out since covid, was greeted by a lovely lad upon arrival but that was were it ended for me. We were made to feel incredibly uncomfortable by a waitress who repeatedly kept coming over to our table hovering for us to finish our meal. It made us all feel on the table that we had to rush our food and wasn't welcome. Food was less then average!! Won't be returning.

Phoned up as we weren’t sure if we needed to book for a lunchtime visit due to Covid restrictions. The lady on the phone was so helpful and reassuring. We were greeted promptly on arrival -there was hand sanitizer an everything was explained to us. We ordered carvery and kids’ meals and everything was served promptly to the table and gravy and sauces were brought to us. We were impressed with the service from all the staff and will definitely come again!

our first night out due to lock down we were greeted and given the instructions fir the layout. Very clear and concise. Food ordered and brought to the next table food as always very high standard. Will be vack soon.

At the entrance there are signs up explaining the changes due to covid. We were greeted and all explained about the one way system which all worked well everyone was social distancing, there was the NHS app on all toilet doors it’s your choice to do if you wish which we did. Every time you went to the toilet you showed your receipt to prove you are at a table and wasn’t a problem for the kids they recognised them so no problem to go the toilet on their own, we felt everything was run very smoothly it was our first time out so we’re a little anxious but didn’t need to be as they had everything in 1st class place. Understandably a limited menu at the weekend but they have their fabulous carvery all in all a fabulous experience and fabulous food. 5

Came last Thursday 9th July with my family (5 of us) for our first meal out in our ‘bubble’ post lockdown. I’d booked ahead but they told me they do keep some tables for walk-ins.Lovely food as has always been on previous visits.Greeted at the door, given paper disposable menus and everything explained clearly. Taken to choose a table, down near where the play area usually is (closed of course). Tables very well spaced out and very clear directions on the floor etc. Staff continually going around cleaning, wore correct PPE and were very attentive but not pushy at all. We stayed chatting with drinks for a while after finishing our food and felt no pressure to leave. My only disappointment was that the refillable soft drinks have stopped, was told that they can’t have folk queuing at the bar for refills. I think that as costs will undoubtedly have increased for them and the amount of business lost these last months this is probably another reason too and totally understandable in the circumstances.20% food discount for Blue Light Card holders too - fabulous!Well done Guelder Rose! Well, today I decided to dine at the Guelder Rose for a cavery lunch and well what a disappointing experience that was, apart from Sam the waiter who was a pleasure from the moment we arrived however he soon had to apologise on behalf his managers Darren confrontational and rude attitude towards the customers.Understandably they wasn’t allowing customers to queue up at the cavery station as normal due to social distancing so the food was plated and brought to us which was pleasant until I looked at it. Dry meat, rock hard roasties, Gravy only water could relate to and cauliflower milk, sorry if you’re as confused as I was looking and tasting the food they called it Cauliflower cheese but they seem to have forgot any sauce involving cheese, we asked for a steak knife (to cut the potatoes) as we didn’t want to seem rude when realising they were clearly not fresh nor edible we asked the waitress if we could have some more which she was happy to help with but upon arrival she brought out the same disappointed dried out potatoes.Sooo here comes the magic I kindly approached the manager to discuss my concerns with him as the food was in edible (even the staff agreed) to which he ensured me rather abruptly that the food was fresh and maintained to a high standard to which I then asked him to come and look at my plate even when hacking into the “roast” potatoe with a steak knife infront of him he just said it was the crispness and ensured me that’s how they should be (even though it wasn’t like this last time) he ensured me all food is cooked to the average standard of the customers when I poured the brown water (gravy) over the food to ask weather the Gravy granules We’re forgotten about he refunded me and shouted at me to leave when I attempted to finish my drink he snatched it out of my hand and told me to go when requesting his bosses contact details after he shouted at me in the restaurant for complaining about my clearly in edible meal he said to go online.... But once again Sam was great, very efficient! Top waiter great staff however awful manager, only thing he will do is manage that place into the ground

We have had our first "BUBBLE" outing to the Guelder Rose this evening and are in total AWE.We were greeted at the door and given clear concise information about the new system by a friendly host.Our table no 21 was perfect and we looked at the new paper menu and decided it had to be our firm favourite "The Carvery.The bar area was well marked for social distancing and this worked well.The lady taking our order was exremely helpful despite my husband confusing the issue by butting in .Our carvey was served very quickly and we were assured that if we required more gravy,vegetables or potatoes just to ask sure enough more gravy was requested and Joy brought this very quickly and it was nice and hot.The meal was superb, we all enjoyed our carvery.The whole experience in these uncertain times was extremely reassuring. Well done to the Guelder Rose , their management team and staff you have this sorted.11 out of 10 from all 3 if us.

First meal out post-lockdown. Impressed with protective measures and constant cleaning.Welcomed at door, new arrangements explained and invited to choose table. Understandably, very limited menu,also prices quite a bit up but guess that's just the way it is. Both of us had medium plate carvery (£8), order at bar choose selection of meat, veg etc and brought to table rather than self-serve now. Very generous helpings served quickly, hot and tasty though some of gammon bit ropey. Mentioned to staff and replacement promptly produced. Very pleasant and helpful staff, good food and agreeable atmosphere.Thanks to Darren and all staff.

First Saturday of easing of the Lockdown, 4th July. What a brilliant, friendly, spot on place!!! Staff are sooo pleasant, helpful, and the place is totally spotless, social distancing observed in a most unobtrusive yet safe manner. And the food!!! Well, hold on to that Chef/Chefs. Our meal was delicious, hot, plentiful and served with a smile. It was sooo good my husband and I were lucky enough to return on the Sunday night and repeated the experience.... right down to having exactly the same choice from the menu!! Highly recommend this great place.

Went here after lockdown and had the smothered chicken, it wasn't exactly smothered and 1 piece of bacon for a meal that costs 11 quid is terribe

Called in for lunch today, well organised COVID restrictions, good food and pleasant staff, what more could you want!

On our visit we were greeted to a lovely clean pub, with a very lovely atmosphere! When me and my family sat down a lovely young girl, (think she said her name was Gerry, she was very happy and polite) asked if we were okay and helped to point out where the carvery prices were in the menu, and asked if she could help with anything else.When we had ordered our meals and went and got our meals the young girl ensured that our meals were all okay, Which they were! One of the best carverys I’ve had in a while. Overall, Our visit to the pub was amazing, friendly staff, great atmosphere and very reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.

I enjoyed a very nice fish and chips cooked perfectly and a lovely dessert. I was very well looked after by a young boy named Sam who made sure my food was fine and my table was cleared. Lovely day and will definitely come back another day! Food overall was delicious!

Went on Wednesday night. Arrived at 20.45 was told we stop serving at 21.00 hrs. We ordered our meals & waited, the meat pie was definitely not the best mushy pastry & a bit of tough meat.Not impressed even when the pub is empty you have to get your own cutlery from a box on the bar.This is a Marstons who have forgot what service is.We eat in many Marstons pubs but to put it quite simply " Its The Worst".

This local restaurant is in a lovely beach front location with ample parking and ideal for families with young children.Sadly, the food (main reason for us visiting) is not always up to standard. Today, greasy over-cooked fish and chips, and cold carvery. Mentioned it to the pleasant waiter who acknowledged and said “oh dear”....Was 19:30 so the secret may be to go earlier?It was a while since our last miss, and because of today will be a while before our next visit; shame as the staff are friendly and surroundings modern and pleasant.

I've come here on 2 separate occasions - first time was for a carvery which was lovely, tender juicy meat with a large selection of veg and optional charged extras.The second time we came was disappointing. I had the fish and chips (the problem meal) which took a long time to come out, and when it did the fish was inedible (hard and gritty) and the chips were soggy. I sent the meal back and waiting a while longer - when the meal came out the fish was fine but they hadn't changed the chips (definitely the same ones) and they had gone hard. Apart from that experience the team are friendly and the place was clean.

We came here every day for drinks whilst staying in Southport. Always a nice atmosphere and the staff are very nice. We had 3 small plates one day. The buttermilk chicken coujons were great and it was nice to have a Yorkie pudding with beef and gravy with it. Competitive prices too
