Great place for lunch while out on a hike, excellent choice of sandwiches for a hiking lunch, and deserts that could not be resisted! Really friendly and welcoming staff as well in a proper pub setting on an Autumn day with the fire going, couldn’t be better, thank you!!

After a good 4 hours walking with our 3 dogs we stumbled upon The Grouse Inn So we decided to have dinner and drinks. We went in the front door to be met by a sign saying 'no dogs or children, use back door' Went to the back door to be met by a sign saying 'no dogs or children' So i asked the waiter where I could go, he said I couldn't take my dogs inside as they had a big table of people in 'the dog friendly bit' Luckily it wasn't raining so we sat out side. I ordered my drinks and asked about food. Was told I needed to hurry as the restaurant closes at 2pm, so we rushed our order to the barman. The bloke behind me was told he needed to hurry as the restaurant closes at 2:15 😱 Believe it or not, the bloke behind him was told to hurry as the restaurant closes at 2:30. 😂 Anyway, my fish and chips tasted like they'd been warned up most of the day, no matter how much tartar sauce, salt, vinegar and ketchup I put on, it was absolutely tasteless. There wasn't any check back to see if the food was ok. The only time the came back was to clear the table. 1st and last time eating at The Grouse Inn The only good thing about the place was the barman was too busy telling everyone to hurry up with their orders, he forgot to charge me for 2 pints of San Miguel. 😀😀👍🏻

Been coming here for over 30 years and still love it for what it is. Traditional setting, food and service which doesn’t need to change! This is a proper pub with fantastic views, proper home cooked grub and service, may be a bit of a wait when things get busy but staff always do their best to manage queues and wait times. All the staff are pleasant, hard working and customer focussed- refreshing in this day and age!

Been to this pub many times over the years. It relies on its location and food for custom. Unfortunately, the guys serving at the bar recently have no customer skills - I was not alone in nearly walking out without ordering meals. Hopefully they can be sent on a customer awareness course.

We went for lunch after a walk. It was a lovely day so we sat outside. The views were stunning. It was quite busy due to the weather but we didn’t have to wait long for food. We ate the Brie wedges starter and the quiche special. Both were very generous portions and delicious. The coleslaw was the best I’ve had in a while. One member of our group is coeliac. There were a few options for them both in the menu and on the specials board. He had the turmeric chicken with rice as the chips are not gluten free. If wanting a gluten free menu ask at bar as adapted menu. Will definitely return!

Drive past this place many times and decided to pop in for some lunch. Lovely proper old pub inside with a roaring fire going. Got a table for 2 and ordered at the bar. I had small Fish and Chips and hauls and had a jacket potato with beans, it was pretty much the only item he could have on the menu other than a curry. Food game quickly but my very thick piece of fish wasn’t cooked in the middle and had to go back. So by the time a second one came my Husband had finished. Waitress did apologise but it marred our dinner. Fish was nice and fresh but a bit tasteless. Good chips. Husbands jacket spud tasted ‘tinny’ a sign it’s been done a while. Think a 3.5 for it on a whole

Very conveniently located pub for us to drop in for lunch after a 3.5 hour walk on Longshaw Estate. We called to book, but was told to just come along which we did and got a nice table by the fire. I was delighted to see 4 decent real ales on tap. A good choice menu with homemade dishes, fairly priced, and a good portion (very much needed after our walk!). It was very comfortable by the fire so we stopped for a homemade dessert. (Delicious!) Not many pubs like this left, a nice rural traditional pub with a mix of walkers and locals. I read a lot of reviews saying staff were rude. I didn’t find them rude at all, but perhaps would have been nice to get a hello when going to the bar or further acknowledgement. Look forward to returning.

Called here for lunch on a busy hot sunny Thursday. Plenty of outdoor seating with great views. The food was of an acceptable standard, not outstanding but not bad. Same goes for the beer. However the staff behind the bar were dismal. Grumpy, unfriendly, unsmiling and bickering between each other in front of waiting customers. Also no awareness of the people waiting to be served or the length of time they had stood there. You would almost surmise that they didn’t appreciate being busy, strange for a sector that is constantly telling us how hard it is.

Best fish and chips in a long while, and everyone else enjoyed their meals too. Unfortunately we plumped for an outside table on a warm but cloudy day after a walk....and it turned to rain, but no tables inside by then - our fault, so we stuck an umbrella up and brazened it out. We ended up waiting an hour! I wouldn't have minded if we were informed at the time of ordering. Me and a family member ordered the sandwich of the day, which was salmon and cucumber - £8, sounds delicious right? Well after our hour long wait when our sandwiches arrived, we received TINNED pink salmon, something that costs 25p in a shop!! It came with shop bought coleslaw, I could have made the disgusting disappointing sandwich at home for about 50p. The meal ruined my new year's day. I was not impressed and will not be returning.

8 people called in today mid way through a walk for a light lunch and drink. Upon writing this, I appreciate that today is New Years Day and they were busy. This was expected by us, therefore presumably expected by the pub too? Maybe?Anyway, we ordered 4 sandwiches, 1 soup, 1 Cajun salmon, 1 Ham egg and chips, 1 chip butty. We waited over 1 hour! No apology, no mention when placing the order of the wait we could expect either.Regardless, that aside, 3 of us had ‘The Sandwich of the Day’, sounds good right? Salmon and Cucumber! By the time it arrived I was really hungry, I even started gnawing a beer mat, needless to say I was really looking forward to it!To my absolute horror, the sandwich of the day, was tinned salmon! Really, who serves tinned salmon with no warning! Not even the red sockeye stuff my Gran used to buy (which, may I add, is ridiculously inexpensive, and there is a reason for that!) £8 for a tinned pink salmon sandwich!!This is wholly unacceptable! To have to audacity to even call that a sandwich of the day! Just lazy and very poor!

Avoid if you’ve got children - they’re banned from the main room. We visited today as two families of 4 and our bums had barely touched the seat when we were informed that children were not allowed in the main bar area. As far as we could see there were no signs to this effect and we were asked to move to a small damp lean to (where the toilets were located) at the back of the pub. We left instead - such a shame as this could be a great family pub in a lovely location but it appears stuck in the past.

Jenny & I just called in here for a sandwich lunch mid-walk this time but enjoyed the Grouse as much as ever, especially as we found a lovely sheltered but sunny spot on the terrace outside to have a drink with the sandwich. It was cold out, only 8-9C with a stiff breeze, but out of the wind on a perfect sunny autumn day it was fine for half an hour or so. Fine sandwich too - brie, apple and walnut, with a side salad and homemade coleslaw, to go with our drinks and crisps - just what we needed. And added entertainment too as we watched ten or so members of the Yorkshire Husky Meet with their dogs milling around outside. Always a lovely place to come and a popular one, particularly so on a gorgeous autumn day.

Food came, frozen chips that have been fried and 2 slices of cheap white bread and this came out of a ‘gourmet’ menu? You think coming to a place so nice like this you’d get something alot better! This is a great pub in all seasons. In summer, the terrace overlooking the beautiful Longshaw Estate is the perfect place for a meal and cool drink. When it's colder, a roaring open fire warms the cosy little bar. The food is more skilfully prepared than the average pub food and they do most meals in two sizes. We have always found the smaller size perfectly adequate. Our favourites are the cod poached in lemon butter and the turmeric chicken. The desserts are plentiful, delicious and served with aplomb.

We were walking both Curbar and Froggatts edge over the bank holiday and as we parked near the pub we thought we would finish our hike here too!, real good hearty pub grub good value for money, friendly staff. caters for kids (there is a dining area at the back for families). It's ideally situated as if you're doing the edges you can start and finish here (and for keen walkers having a pub literally at the end of a hike is a bonus!). If you are a real ale drinker I recommend the 61 deep pale ale.

I'm not a local, but was in Sheffield for the weekend and I popped into this pub for a drink and Sunday lunch, following a lovely walk. Views are spectacular. The pub is old and has a real country feel about it. Locals were delightfully friendly. Staff were attentive and helpful. Food was out of this world. I had the biggest roast I've ever had. Loads of lamb, smothered in delicious gravy, with great choice of veg. I was in awe at the portion size, but more so the reasonable prices they were serving. I couldn't fault this pub at all, so it deserves 5*****

I attended this restaurant after a walk with 7 of us attending the restaurant. Two of us are vegan and were disappointed at the one choice of a vegan main meals, a vegetable curry with poppadom and mango chutney on the special board. I feel in 2019 this is very poor offering. So with only the one choice, this was ordered.

Have driven / walked past several times, this was our first visit, the food was good, pie was a pie and not a lie, and I ordered quiche from the specials, the salad was up there with the best, honey mustard dressing and coleslaw, only downside the dog bar was empty and cold not very welcoming, so poor Gus was left in the boot good honest homemade food.

Called in with the dog, sat outside in the spring sunshine and had a delicious lunch. The steak pie is really good, nothing swanky, just good honest tasty food. The only downer was that the staff seemed unfriendly, but it was still a lovely casual lunch.

The food was fine, and eventually we had a nice spot at the fireplace, but at first the kids were not let in and the staff seemed very stressed. Would recommend the Fox House in stead.

We popped in here for lunch whilst hiking over the weekend. Timed it perfectly as the door was unlocked just as we walked up to it! It has a beautiful and cosy interior, made even better by the real log fire in the bar area.

Have visited this pub on numerous occasions and have yet to be disappointed The food is alway well presented, hot and the portion are great. There is always a specials board and usually a guest bitter. Family run so the service and quality is second to none definitely worth a visit

What lovely people! All of the staff exceeded any expectation with regard to service and interest in their customers. We were two couples who share a wedding anniversary and chose The Grouse due to excellent reports. The food is good, wholesome, well cooked and plenty of it. How sensible to split the main meals into either small or standard portions - prevents so much waste.

Went with my wife and elderly ,doddery mother on a cold Saturday evening. Didn’t look too appealing as only one other person there. However staff very welcoming and great real log fire to warm us. Menu is reasonable for a pub - enough choices and a specials board. The food was served quickly and piping hot. Looked a bit dated with loads of chips however my wife’s Whitby scampi was really very good and my steak pie was jammed with juicy tender steak with lots of gravy. The crumble was also wholesome and very filling. By the time we’d finished the place was full !

We stopped in here for a drink and warm up after a walk; ideal because if you dont mind being spirited away into the back room they do allow dogs in there! Not quite as attractive as the main bar area but its ok.

After hiking on Froggatt Edge, hungry, damp and muddy, I spotted the Grouse Inn and went there for a hearty lunch. It was perfect! A fire roaring in the fireplace, Christmas decorations, mulled wine and a pie....what more could I want? The menu is traditional but with some updates like crabcakes.

Beautifully decorated with blazing log fires and a welcome to match, this pub is probably the best in the area. Great menu at realistic prices and unsurpassed quality and presentation - what’s not to like. We could not fault anything - thanks to all the staff for a wonderful evening.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend
