Unbelievably miserable staff, can I at least get a hello or smile when I purchase my £15 Japanese teabags?

Wow, what is the cashier so beat up about? It must be such a pain for him to have to serve customers. Don’t go there unless you want your mood to be well and truly trodden on.

You can find amazing cheeses and a very large variety of different wines from different countries plus a lot of pasta olive oil products Italy France Spain 💪very good store I recommend ✅ a very large selection and good prices ❤️

The grocery is one of my favorite places on Kingsland Road/shoreditch. One of my favorite places to write, in the morning you can get a coffee/tea and relax it’s like a friend’s front room cum bar tabac, it’s calm & big hearted. I always feel looked after. It’s a hidden gem. Excellent for food shopping but the real charm is the wine vault that sells all sorts of unusual low impact wines and drinks you can buy food in the shop like cheeses, charcuterie, snacks and the lovely Lucia will arrange it artfully on plates. It also sells Daura gluten free beer. The downstair space is really lovely and will become a tapas style diner.

The more I go there, the less I want to go back. There is only one reason for this: the older cashier guy, who is very rude, doesn't say hello, goodbye, thank you, looks at you in a very unpleasant manner. Are you not reading all of the negative reviews about him? Does he have some special privilege working there being as terrible at customer service as he is? You have just lost another customer because of him.

Despite selling overpriced food that caters for all dietary requirements the staff have zero concept of what they’re selling. They can’t offer the most basic recommendation and are just quite rude

Great shop with lots of good organic stuff. But staff are always cold and unfriendly, and some are down right rude. There is a guy who did not say a word when I was paying. He was paying more attention to watching the football on his phone. He rudely and slowly scanned the items, while make no communication or acknowledgement, even when prompted

Like others have pointed out great selection but creepy older cashier. The guy will only speak in French using it as a way to flirt. Passive aggressive attitude if you don’t play back. He 100% only does this to women because when I go in with my husband he is silent. Shame on this establishment for allowing this to carry on. It’s a great store in a needed location but women don’t need to be harassed. They are ignoring his behavior so I assume he is the owner. I will not be patronizing this place any longer due to the inappropriate cashier that preys on women.

I popped at the grocery on Sunday, I was surprised by the many good items they stock! Very nice customer service. I highly recommend this place.

Really good products! But the cashier who speaks french made me very uncomfortable. He kept pulling the products back from my hand at the till and made comments about south indians. You know you have a problem with this cashier and you fail to fire him? Makes me questions if you really care about your customers.

The cashier was extremely rude, it seemed like he is just there to pass on his anger. All the other reviews for this store are the same so either he is the owner or they aren’t listening. Disappointing as it is actually a nice store, he just needs to learn some manners.

I just love this store- you can shop and get all your needs together with a nice bottle of red from the wine shop. My fav staff member is the French speaking guy who sits in the corner and serves on the till. Friendly, kind and helpful.

Always amazed by how much stuff they sell here, ingredients to ready to eat stuff. Coffee, fruit & veg, cheese and other chilled, pasta, you name it really.

Excellent assortment of goods. However, the inappropriate behavior of the cashier spoiled the whole shopping experience, I left the store feeling insulted.

Shop is well-stocked, but staff is rude and racist. I'd never return, but it's the only place I can get my cat's usual food in an emergency.

Superb! A far better option than Wholefoods in Stoke Newington (with its gentrified bias, security who follow blakc customers around the store as if they are not welcome and middle class metropolitan snob staff). The Grocery is far more down to earth, better pricing and friendly and helpful staff. Ditch Wholefoods Stoke Newington and come here instead!

Inappropriate behaviour. I left this place with a feeling of being abused, then checked the reviews and saw that many women complaining about the french cashier who was rude and flirted with them. I’m glad other women shared their experience, so i decided to leave a bad review too. Good quality of groceries, but sadly it’s inappropriate behaviour for me and I won’t come back there again.

Went in for the first time don’t think I’ll go again, colleague happened to be “fixing” every shelf I was looking at in the store, made to feel very uncomfortable being followed around.

The male cashier overcharged the bill and seems unhappy and rude when I found it out as I read the receipt. The cashier should double check the bill before charging the customer as it is quite obvious that it wouldn’t be that expensive given the items I bought. I’ve also seen reviews regarding overcharged bills in the review, this make me doubt it’s not a mistake, please don’t let this happen again.

Top wine delivery service, even if you want something that is not on the Deliveroo page, they will help you.

I was charged £6.20 for two red peppers. Now, I do understand this is a hipster place etc… but £3.1 a pepper is something I’ve never seen before. They finally gave me the peppers for half price which made me wonder how many people get ripped off from this place. I’ll never shop there again

Rude staff and bad customer service

A find! In what is mostly a pretty dull and drab street this is a find! Staying at a hotel locally (a whole other story) I found this little gem. Wonderful fresh veg, groceries, wines, nice toiletries and a little café where you can take a glass of wine and some cheese in the evening or great coffee and pastries during the day. And all reasonably priced and served with a SMILE!.

The French speaking old guy(a staff) was looking at me and my friend in a very inappropriate way and he was rude. Never shopping here again.

An older man in the staff consistently behaves very inappropriately towards young girls and is in general rude towards customers. I’m not going here again, despite its good range of products.

On my first day back in London I received such a welcome back from JC (and a hug as I’ve made it through a tough summer) - I must have been shopping at the grocery for more than twelve years and have my favourite items I come back for time and again - thank you for building community and always making me feel welcome

I have spent a fortune here since they opened! I love the staff. I would be happy to work here I like it so much. Oh and the sprouts are always lovely and crunchy 😊

Just ordered groceries through deliveroo and the carrots were so rotten that they just bend in your hand. Onions were totally inedible and beyond rotten. Who would be happy to send these vegetables to a customer?

This is a nice place. I’ve been here a few times, and I’ve always been impressed with their selection of ground coffee and vegan chocolate. It is a little on the pricy side here, but I’d say it’s worth it. The clipson coffee in particular is absolutely fantastic and tastes great.

only shop here when in need of Italian products (of which they have a rather good stock) that I can't find elsewhere. however, staff is appallingly rude. products you can easily find in other nearby supermarkets cost 40-50% more

They have a lot of items that are hard to find elsewhere. However they also stock a lot of common items at a higher price. So 3 stars.

American expats will appreciate this place, its a bit like a mini W.F. (which is 20 mins away) and has a good selection of fresh veggies, grains and pasta. Love the wine shop in back. A little pricier than mainstream grocery but feels a little less like a factory and more like an experience.

I ordered from them on Uber Eats and was very pleased when I got my order! I was impressed by the use of eco friendly brown paper bags to carry my groceries and they wrote a cute message on the bag that read “Good Morning Samiha! :)” which I thought was unique. As for the content, everything came in aesthetically pleasing boxes, which I was pleasantly surprised about so I would highly recommend them if you’d like the insides your cabinets and fridges to look aesthetic and organised.

I’ve tried this place twice; once for fresh pastries and once for a fresh salad for lunch. Both times the food was inedible so I had to throw it away. The salad tasted disgusting and the pastry was terrible. Plus, the staff are rude. I suppose if you are looking for fancy brands of dry food this place might suit your purpose but aside from that, stay away.

The only good thing about the Grocery is the great selection of products. Also the wine cellar always have really helpful staff. However all fruits veg etc are never fresh. The cashiers are rude and make weird uncomfortable comments. The cashiers have also tried to rip me off on multiple occasions by adding things to the end of my bill that I did not buy. Eg. the last time I bought food here they added £5 worth of persimmons that I never bought (I saw once I requested a copy of my receipt). Be careful shopping here.

Great range of products, but many items can be bought in supermarkets much cheaper. The staff are staggeringly rude and full of themselves. Happily I am a tourist, so I can buy my tempeh at home from staff who aren't overcome with their own (perceived) sense of coolness. Ugh.

Good selection of stuff. I would only stick to the organics here. It seems like they price their regular stuff that you can get at Tesco etc at a significant premium. I use to just shop all together here, but I realise supermarket stuff is even more expensive than Waitrose. I would love to support my local business, but there's a limit. Maybe I'll be a regular again one day when I'm rich rich rich

Ridiculously overpriced organic market thing. Hard not to get fed up with some of the insolent staff who can’t even be bothered to say hi to a customer.

Update: Bully cashier - he flirts with women in unacceptable ways. It seems like he enjoys feeling powerful when talking to women he finds are at a more fragile place. The place is also overpriced. There are plenty of better shops where the staff dont cross any lines and will treat you respectfully. He must be the owner. Don’t go to this place.

I've been using the grocery for probably 5 years and I don't even live in the area. Its the mixture of fabulous goods on the shelves and dedicated inviting staff that keeps me coming back again and again.

The place you go to for those special little bits and pieces you can't get anywhere else. Fresh sough dough bread from Clapton bakery being one of them. But not going to tell you the other items I get or they will never be there again 😁 Make sure you take your card though as it's pretty pricey (Shoreditch prices) 💔💔💔

Rude, unprofessional cashier, humiliated me by refusing to serve me as per my position in the queue. He had the great idea to teach me a little public lesson on "how to be a gentleman" (he wanted to serve a female customer before me so he made me step out of the line - I was originally in front of the queue). Then he must have realized he made a big mistake as he kept repeating pathetically "this is for you for being a gentleman" like 3 times while trying to pay me off with a free chocolate and bag. Never ever had such an unwarranted humiliating experience in a store anywhere in the world before. To be fair: I have been there a few times and the other cashiers are really nice. But I won't forget this one.

I ordered from them, I haven't received all of the products I ordered but I payed for them. When called, a guy told me that he can understand I was disappointed but he couldn't do anything. I spent 73pounds and received only a part of my order ... but they took all of the money . Unfortunately is very disappointing. They got very nice products but I'm not donating money to them. Ridiculous.

Was great to go back to this shop. I haven't been there for such a long time. I used to do promotions many years ago. I looked great, I love the cat, by the way. Although a bit disappointed with the customer service. The person who served me was already doing his personal shopping before end of shift, and was not so keen in doing his job ( it made me feel a bit unwelcome).

It's the best supermarket in the area. Great quality products you won't find elsewhere, but not overpriced. Very impressive wine section with a really knowledgeable french lady to help you. There is also a cat.

Really nice small supermarket and a paradise for vegan people. There have a lot of different products that you can’t find in other places. It’s a shame that they still provide animal products, hope they change in the future.

Great produce but unfortunately let down by the rudeness of their staff. Been a few times and every time the cashier has been so surly. Honestly, would it kill you to say 'hello' and 'thank you'? Really doesn't make me want to shop there again.

The product selection and the prices go together well and clearly have their following, but does the service have to be so atrocious? They’re not even ‘cool’ rude, just bad at their jobs. That 30% mark-up gets you nothing at all.

The products are the only good thing about this place. Customer service is awful. Staff are largely rude, indifferent and pretentious. Whenever I've asked for help (reluctantly), staff often respond as if you're bothering them. As a black female, i've often been on the receiving end of such behaviour. I've been othered time and time again, even followed round as if I intend on stealing something. I have had multiple occasions (all European females) where I've politely asked for a bag at the start of my checkout - and they just thrown it in the basket. Meanwhile, other shoppers have their shopping packed without question. Never again.

It has two floors and lot of fresh fruits, vegetables, wines, drinks and much more vegan food as well. Staff is generous.
