For a higher-end restaurant some of our meal was terrible . Who serves half-cooked rice? I ordered the squid starter and the haddock . The starter was so hard I had to pick the 'balls' of batter up and bite them, revealing a thin sliver of something. The haddock had been on vacation; it was so well-rested that it was hard and chewy. We weren't ever asked if our meals were OK, and my feedback at the end prompted no apology or other action. The vegetarians and meat eaters seemed quite happy but whoever decided the fish was OK should be made to eat it!

Visited The Grill for an evening meal whilst staying at Forest Pines Hotel. The food was fantastic. 2 weeks ago, we went as a couple to a Marco Pierre White London restaurant and in all honesty, this was a better meal. My wife had the chicken and mushroom soup followed by confit duck which was cooked to perfection. I had beetroot salmon l, which was amazing, following by a know excellent gourmet burger. We also had a complimentary desert because we were celebrating a birthday. Would recommend.

Dinner with our business owners and colleagues. Staff attentive, engaging and could not be faulted however could only pity them at having to serve such a poor standard of food at totally overinflated prices. Squid starters were particularly awful - frozen discount supermarket standard, oily, soggy and tasteless. The other starters didn't appear any better. A selection of mains - the steak was remarked upon as tough and tasteless, the fish tasted off and was returned half eaten (with the consumer ill in the early hours of the morning) and whoever thinks what I was served up was a schnitzel really needs to take a trip to Austria. Desserts weren't too bad but what had come before made the meal beyond rescue. I appreciate the industry is going to have a tough time emerging from the pandemic but this is not the way to do it and we'll never go near the place again.

Booked to go for afternoon tea with my aunt. When we arrived we were asked if we had a voucher, stated we had booked online. Then Amy said you can have that table there, where? There, as set up for two. The tables were so packed together we asked about more spacing, there aren’t anymore restrictions in place Amy advised whilst we were wearing masks! Then Kayleigh took our order and it was literally dropped at the table by Amy who then curtly left. At no point in the hour and a half were we approached to ask if Everything was ok or if we wanted more to drink than the measly small one and a half cup of tea/coffee with the £25 per person afternoon tea. We waited but nothing. We were disappointed that the tiny sandwiches were buttered with margarine when they didn’t need any. When we left to pay, again we were not asked if everything was ok and they weren’t fun off their feet. Rude , disrespectful and poor value for money.

I had limited choice where to eat as there is not much in the area, so I paid for overpriced, uninspiring food. A very limited menu and one of the main items, was not available, so it was even more limited. I went for the £16.50 pizza (that is not a typo) which when delivered to me looked like the waiter had eaten some of it on the way to the table as it had a chunk missing. I know should have complained but I have a rule of never returning food to a kitchen. So all in all, the food and restaurant as mediocre as the hotel itself.

Visited with friends for afternoon tea. We were told we would be in the dining room but were in the bar area. We moved tables so we could do social distancing but had to ask for one table to be cleaned as had remnants left of a previous person's visit - obviously not cleaned after each person's visit. Having seen the pictures on the web site and read what we thought we were going to have we thought we must be in the wrong place! Only two of the sandwiches were advertised also the scones but not the rest .Due to dietary preferences two people asked for cheese and when these arrived they were just a slice of cheese in white bread - looked very unappetizing.. With our spar discount and "eat out to help out" discount the price was reasonable but felt they were doing it on the cheap. Certainly not worth £21 which was full price. We did not complain as did not want to spoil our first outing since March but very disappointing.

We had an evening meal here during a transit stop. We are very happy with it, and everything was eaten. I had the haddock and chips, Mrs PMQ had the ravioli. Served with a smile and appropriate post-COVID reopening care, perhaps the only criticism would be getting the plates hotter so the food stayed hot longer? Decent value and all very pleasant.

We were staying in the hotel and arrived at 9pm with a hungry toddler and a 7 year old. We were greeted and shown our table by Sarah, the Restaurant manager. Sarah was so fantastic, such excellent customer service, nothing was too much trouble for her. There was a mix up with my drink, but again Sarah sorted this right away. They have a dedicated children’s menu and both ours enjoyed their pizza which was a huge portion and chicken goujons and chips. All cooked really well, with lovely skin on chips. For our mains we went for the Hake and Lamb Rump. These were cooked to perfection and tasted so so good!! So well seasoned and honestly some of the best Hake and Lamb we have had! Dessert was again a pleasure with the children both going for a Chocolate Brownie and ice cream and we went for the Creme Brûlée with bergamot and a Valrohna chocolate delice. Again amazingly presented and lovely! Children’s drinks are included with their meal and under 4’s eat free, again a fantastic touch and amazing value for money! All in all a fantastic family meal, albeit a group of ladies that thought it was fine to scream and shout at the top of their voices and swear away after a couple of shandies, but again no fault of the hotel. We will be back, as we were impressed with the food and service! Thank you again to Sarah!

the food at the grill was ok, no more than this. But it was expensive, if the price was 20-25% less then I think the food would have been priced accordingly. Little flare was expressed on the plates at all.My biggest issue was the way the head waiter hovered over us when we were finishing our evening to get a signature on the bill. We were guests staying in the hotel which they knew because our table was booked under a room number and so were not going to do a runner.

Went here with a very dear friend of mine, we were seated in the grill which was like a works canteen, the noise from people talking was unbearable, the menu was terrible, choice of 5 starters, 5 main, 4 desserts, we choice a rib eye steak (which was £6.50 supplement on top of the 1 course charge of £16.00) so cost us £22.50 each. When the steak came it was no larger than 5oz and very thin, the plate looked empty it had 5 chips on it, and they filled the rest of the plate with rocket. there wasn't any vegetable, no mushrooms, no grilled tomato, which i expect with a steak, even at the local pub which is 2 for a £10 you get them. We went home hungry, very very poor quality steak, a glass of wine £5.50 and not the best, i certainly will not be going back, this place looks the part but doesn't come up with the goods. my advise would be stay away, very very poor

I took my wife yesterday on her Birthday to the 1829 Restaurant at Forest Pines Hotel in Broughton N.Lincs. I am a Broughton resident and ex-mayor who had been proud of this place and has used it off and on since it was opened as Briggate Lodge long before golfing there. I held my daughter`s wedding there and even enjoyed a twelve person mayoral meal there with all of the local district mayors coming and was very proud of the place. I had an expensive party there a few years back for my sonYesterday I had disappointing meal and as there was a new menu thought I ought to point this out. The following reaction of the Manager, an oriental looking gentleman, caused a heated discussion that left my wife nearly in tears and finished off all good thoughts on her Birthday. His attitude was, that not only was I wrong, according to him, his chef and business advisors but also any others of the public who thought similarly would also be wrong. When I pointed out that the reason I complained was to avoid him misleading other members of the public to continue the good name of the hotel he said that it would be their error not his.If they approve of current idea of aggressive self-righteous management, they will be losing a good few customers, as they have lost me.The argument:The menu listed a “Broth of Salmon, Lobster, mussels, cockles and some sweet greens. To me, a broth is a soup, thickened and fortified to make a main meal.I was expecting a nice seafood soup of shellfish and salmon with that lovely taste of Lobster. Maybe not a Lobster Bisque but at least a bowl full of tangy fish soup. The Oxford Dictionary states “soup consisting of meat or vegetables cooked in stock, sometimes thickened with barley or other cereals:”I twice heard the serving staff refer to the dish as Salmon and even got one of them to check with the kitchen that I was indeed getting Salmon, Lobster and shell fish soup, and not just a dish of salmon. They actually confirmed this, so I ordered some bread to go with my soup. They then served a dish of a large piece of salmon garnished with three tiny mussels, maybe two cockles and four tiny reddish chewy bits splashed over with a clear liquid which barely covered the plate bottom and two tablespoons of boiled cabbage. This was accompanied by a dish of vegetables. After I pointed out the mistake, the Manager appeared and told me that this was broth and that they had not stated that Lobster was in it ?? He went to consult the chef and returning then confirmed that:• It was broth• It had Lobster in it.• My expectations on assuming I was getting a bowl of fortified soup was wrong• The modern culinary world determined the meaning of broth, not me or the public When I told him he was wrong and that if twelve other diners came forward, they would expect the same as me, his response was that they would all be wrong because of their old fashioned attitude and it was the ingredients that defined what a broth was. At that point he produced a mobile phone with a picture of a steaming bowl of broth and started quoting ingredients. I pointed at the picture and asked him why I didn’t have a bowl of soup like that or even any bowl of liquid at all?. He stated that he would not charge me for the piece of fish that he called broth and I told him that this was not the point. People being disappointed was the point!. He would not back down or back off and just left. I did not bother to mention that people ordering the soup did not expect such eye watering amounts of black pepper without due warning. The dismal chips were just left on the plate. My wife’s steak was nice and the sweets were nice. The carafe of Rioja was lovely. But would I pay £69 anywhere for this experience? No I don`t think so! We finished our main course, had a sweet, left with a bill reduced by £10 and my wife nearly in tears. And I of course am the cause of it all.Surprisingly, one of the young staff was concerned and I explained it again to her and watched her look of disbelief. If I had been on my own, this altercation with this limited Manager would even have taken on the crazy chef who reinforced him. When is a broth not a broth?? When is the customer always right? However it spoilt the rest of my wife`s birthday and nearly had her in tears. I object to that!.

Shame really because the quality was actually really good! Nice selection of veg, great yorkshire pudding but when the chef presents you with a 2 inch square slice of wafer thin beef and then asks you "Are you waiting for a second slice?" The typical Sunday Lunch (Carvery) was very very disappointing to say the least. The roast beef was tough. The veg was cold and under cooked. The gravy was cold. What a shame as we had really looked forward to enjoying a lovely typical British Sunday roast. Had visited the restaurant a few years back and remembered it to be wonderful. Hope they manage to do something about improving the food again. The choice was poor too. The desserts were awful. Three of us went for diviner on Sat 6th Oct. after being passed between several members of staff,we arrived at our table and were immediately presented with menus and wine list. The staff were attentive and friendly throughout the evening. We ordered a bottle of wine and some still water. We were surprised when the water arrived in ajug off dubious cleanliness, and without ice or lemon. Offered rolls, there was no gluten free alternative, indeed there was no gluten free food at any stage, which is surprising in such an allegedly prestigious hotel. The starters arrived promptly, one very good one okey but the poached egg was hard, mine a chicken liver pâté was tasty enough, but of minuscule proportion, and the toast had been toast for a very long time! The main courses were really good, but the same could not be said for the deserts. Cheese and biscuits was drab and uninspiring, lemon meringue was very sweet and possibly came from a discount super market, The crispy crumble banoffie, was neither crispy nor crumbly with only the slightest trace of banana. In all a disappointing experience. We mentioned our disappointment to the waiter, in particular the lack of any gluten free food. He promised to pass our comments to the chef. I hope he did.

I chose to dine at the grill restaurant as a treat for my boyfriends birthday. We had looked at the menu prior to visiting the restaurant and thought it looked appealing as the menu looked very simple and sophisticated so easy to choose from. When we got seated at our table we had to ask about drinks, in which we then got told we should have ordered them at the bar on the way in which was not made clear to us at all in the slightest. The service was generaly okay however pretty slow at times. I ordered the haddock and chips which tasted awful! The fish tasted undercooked, especially the batter and the chips were certainly undercooked and just tasted of grease. My boyfriend ordered the chicken which cost £19 however was the smallest portion I've ever seen!! Certainly not worth the money at all! We also ordered the shared ice cream sundae for dessert which cost £10 and was literally 3 scoops of ice cream with a couple of sauces on the side. After the meal, I returned to my room and was very ill from the meal. Overall extremely overpriced and poor quality.

brother in law booked a table for about 12 of us 3 weeks before hand, when we got there they had lost the booking, took an age to sort that out which they eventually did and threw up a table for us, service i have to say was appalling, our table was cluttered with empty glasses after 1 round of drinks which we had to go to bar for ourselves, and no offer of any bar sevice was made to us whilst at the table or any attempt made to clear the glasses.the food was ok but for the price paid ok was not really good enough. i have heard good and bad tales about this place as the company i work for use it quite a lot and really have now got the opinion that for a place that is supposed to be high end hotel and restaurant (well for our area anyway) that it is not really very good, in all honesty i have been to better premier inns. perhaps i got unlucky and it was just 1 of those bad experiences you hear about in a place normally supposed to be very good but i certainly will not go again. also got to add that i had the fresh (?) grimsby haddock and chips which cost £15...tip of the day go to your local chippy you will get more for much less....the salmon was very nice tho according to the wife...all in all i do not reccomend this and also have many colleagues who go regularly to wine and dine customers who say the same.

If you have any self respect, you would not eat here. It’s a dive. Don’t get me started on how dirty the staff look either. One with a pair of blue jeans on like she’d just rolled in from school. This place used to be good when Christopher Mayne was the manager but has since evidently gone downhill. The new manager looks totally uninterested and like he is wasting his time by being there. When he served us, it felt like he was doing us a favour by pouring a pint. My husband also agreed on his rude attitude. We have also heard bad things about a particular chef who works in the kitchen??? Need I say anymore about the kind of people they are employing here.
