Passing through the village we decided to drop in for a light bite and drink before continuing our journey. Was greeted by the pleasant landlady and took our food order. Sat by the wood log burner (nice) . The sandwiches when served were very tasty and well presented. If passing thru do pop in and give them your custom.

If you want a plastic pub and a plastic welcome, do go there. I real traditional establishment. The two Landlaides who own the place should be on stage. Nothing false about them or there team. Limited menue for foodies, but that said the quality and value for money is Obvious. The beer quality is very good, I can't see why this establishment has not been recognised by CAMRA. Although they each area has limited space in there much read guide. Again l stress I am not a regular here. I use a lot of different pubs in the area. I speak as l find, l have no elegance to one potticuler establishment. I have no personal interest in the accommodation, as l always make it home!! However I have spoken to many residence who have states there whist drinking at the Bar. All have commented on the welcome they had recived and the quality of the accommodation plus value for money. The Griffin is well worth the visit. You will also find fairly regular entertainment.

This is my second review this year. It has to be said this venue goes from strength to strength to strength thanks to the two landlaides who own and manage the place. Together with a small deducted team. When you think there is no further improvement that can be made, there is a raft more. Well run Freindly and a traditional pub. Limited menue, but that's fine as all is well cooked and presented. I have not stayed here as l live locally. However from what l experience and with talking to residedence it would seem that the accommodation is comfortable and the superb breakfast does not let them down. Well kept traditional beers. It's a must try, must return to establishment! Friendly locals. This is a genuine observation and a comparitve one, as l visit a number of pubs in the area and have no potticuler alegence to any establishment. I Just look for good well kept beer, friendly welcome from the staff and Management. Together with a comfortable and friendly environment. It's about time It was officially recognised by CAMRA and given an accalade it deserves from Trip adviser etc.

We have just spent the weekend away staying at the Griffin Inn at Yoxford. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much trouble. Every member of staff were welcoming friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast was fabulous and we chose to have both our evening meals in the restaurant, good quality ingredients all of the time, food was plentiful cooked fresh using locally sourced produce and served with a smile and good humour. Miranda and Tara are the best landlady’s we have ever come across there also needs to be a loud shout out for Chloe who greeted us initially and Keira who came in on Sunday morning to help out. We did not stop laughing the whole weekend, thank you. xxx

The Griffin Inn (Yoxford) Whilst trying to find a place to rest my head for the night I was searching on Trip Advisor and came across this one with mostly positive reviews and the odd moan about noise. Well what can I say the owner Miranda and her staff could not have been more welcoming. Due to the crazy weather & snow we were having at the time the pub was dead quiet but none the less the character & friendliness of the owner & staff was as positive as anything! Staying away always makes me nervous in new places due to the fact that I am have Coeliac Disease so have to be VERY careful with food but Miranda could not have been more helpful with this too & this put my mind at ease! I have a gorgeous Gluten Free pie with mash, veg and gluten free gravy for dinner and no space for pudding & I love my puddings! That’s how filling it was. In the morning I had a Bacon, Beans, Mushrooms & my gluten free bread and it was all lovely - really set me up for the day! I stayed in bedroom no. 3 which faces the front of the Inn & love the feature beams in the room. It had all the creature comforts you need like tea/coffee facilities, a small tv, wardrobe and chest of drawers but be careful going into the bathroom as there is a step up to it and I even have to duck and I’m 5’6. Shower had great pressure and loads of lovely hot water! 🙌 I slept like a log so the bed must have been comfortable! I’ll definitely be staying again when I am back in the area with work 🙂👍

Visited on our way back from southwold, choose the steak and ale pie but received a carrot pie with side of carrots, in fairness there was some of Sunday’s left over roast beef thrown in the mix but the carrots were the star of the show! The “steak” & “ale” were very much an absent from the dish, no wonder so many pubs are closing! No one can be bothered anymore

Called in on the off chance on a Sunday for lunch with the dog in tow. A lovely welcome as soon as we entered the bar. Was informed that we could have the carvery lunch in the bar so we wouldn’t have to leave the dog in the car. Lovely food, well cooked, with a pudding at a very reasonable price. Sausages for the dog was a bonus! So lovely to find a down to earth pub with down to earth people after a week of Hooray Henrys and Henriettas that seem to be everywhere in this part of Suffolk. Day was damp and cold so the fire could have done with lighting but it didn’t detract from our visit. Will definitely return to sample the Pieminister pies! Many thanks to Jacob(?) the barman!

Called in on the way home from Dunwich hoping for a quick bite to eat. Our first question these days is 'do you have gluten-free options?' before we even ask if there is a table free. The lovely waiting staff assured us that there are gluten-free options on the menu therefore we ordered drinks and sat down. However on perusing the menu the only gluten-free listing was Mushroom Stroganoff. On further questioning the chef asserted that there were some gluten-free pieminister pies available, or ham egg and chips but the chips weren't cooked in a separate fryer from gluten containing foods (not safe for coeliacs). At this point we were wishing we hadn't bought drinks and preparing to leave, but the staff then seeing our difficulty offered ham, eggs and new potatoes, which was very helpful. Quite a nice meal in the end, and the staff were very helpful. Nice pleasant atmosphere. Would be really nice to just get a small separate fryer so that coeliacs (1 in 100 people) can enjoy some chips too 😊 We noted another couple of people came in, read the menu, mentioned their 'awkward' dietary requirements and left. Maybe a new menu offering further gluten-free choices on request might help? Just a suggestion.

Getting a room for a Saturday night in the height of summer and during the World Cup proved challenging. Our previous stay at The White Horse Sibton could not help and suggested The Griffin at Yoxford. It's not on the same standard, although the bed was superb. The welcome from the moment I called was first rate and charming as it was when we arrived during England's match with Sweden. The building dates - in part - from 14th century and much much in 16th.The are copious "mind your head" warnings. The owners, who are local and have only had the pub for about a year and they realise there are "things to do". But they're doing much and the warmth of the atmosphere is superb. Breakfast was not bad at all. The bathrooms are small, but more than adequate and the bedrooms are well appointed and of a good size. We'll be back.

Excellent lunch for 14 at the Griffin yesterday. Menu is good mix of pub fare made to order. Special pie menu and pizzas were popular choices. Manager and staff were very welcoming and friendly and went above and beyond for this special occasion. Good natured locals in the main bar were enjoying the England/Sweden match which added to the atmosphere. Nice secure level rear garden with children’s area away from any road noise. Can’t recommend The Griffin too highly. So welcoming. Apparently they are also a successful b&b; with an awesome breakfast served!

Four of us went for dinner when the carvery on the menu. Couldn't complain about the meat, it was very tasty and tender, but the vegetables were not at all enjoyable. The roast potatoes were not at all roasted, no colour on them at all, the sprouts rock hard, almost raw, and the yorkshires very stodgy. Looked around at other tables and noticed almost all of them had the potatoes left. The starters were good as were the deserts, and the cheese/biscuits really good. Pity this was such a disappointment as they serve a very good pint and they really need to work on the vegetables.

Just visited The Griffin and ate the carvery meal. Good selection of meat and lots of vegetables. Surprising for a carvery are Yorkshire puddings that taste like Yorkshires, and have the texture of Yorkshires, unlike most carvery Yorkshires that, in my experience, have the taste and texture of cardboard inflated with high pressure air! Highly recommended.

Popped in here for a light bite and drink later afternoon. We walked into the bar which was large, decor was quite dated but fitting with the feel of the place. Ordered drinks and the barman was friendly and helpful when we asked if they were still serving food, he told us to go into the restaurant and ask for a table. We did as we were told and sat and looked through the menu (only 3 starter, 3 main and 3 dessert choices and a couple of specials) Not a great start! I nipped back to the bar to ask if they had any light bite options and the lady replied not on a Sunday, fair enough. I asked if we could just order a couple of portions of chips to which I was told we would have to sit in the bar, not in the restaurant. So up we went back into the bar. The restaurant has no atmosphere. Won't be returning, staff did not make us feel welcome and it seemed a hassle to them that we were there!

The Griffin Inn is not just a Restaurant/Pub, it's also a lovely getaway. The owners have done a marvellous job of restoring this 600 + year old building without losing any of its character. It's the little touches that really made a difference for me, like the DVD and Book Collections that, you're welcome to pick from and watch or read, or the extremely generous amounts of complimentary tea/coffee/hot chocolate and most delicious biscuits in your room. When I stayed, they were hosting a charity afternoon in the pub with a number of live bands, raising money for Macmillan and a lot of members of the village had come down to join in and partake. The owners, a lovely couple (Vicky & Stewart) really took the time to get to know us, made sure everything was comfortable for us and also pointed us in the direction of local attractions which we took the time out to visit and each of these just made our weekend away truly special. For breakfast I enjoyed a full English Breakfast and a Roast to make your mouth water for Lunch. The food was absolutely delicious (especially the creamy leeks) and the setting in which we sat was a real treat. A combination of modernised comfortable seating that didn't seem out of place in the 600 year old building but also key features that reminded you of the time this restaurant had seen, little windows -perfectly restored, beams overhead and solid wooden flooring. My stay was one that was so lovely, I'm looking forward to returning in the summer time. If it's good enough for Alan Rickman (who was a frequent visitor), it's good enough for me!

Generally very disappointed. Attended the Pub on the 5th March for an evening meal with my partners dad for his birthday. Lady serving us was not good! I felt like asking for something was too much hassle for her. Restaurant was soooo cold! I kept my jacket on all evening, just a tiny heater in the corner trying to heat the room. We were the only people dining on a Saturday evening.. Food was poor, partners steak overcooked, when mentioning to our waitress she didn't care, and didn't offer to change it. He wasn't given a steak knife and was a crappy cut of steak, served on a very cold plate..I had the lamb, plate extremely hot!! She didn't warm me how hot it was. Flavours were not great, luckily it didn't go to waste, my dogs appreciated it! I did ask if they could do a garlic butter or sauce but she said they only had peppercorn (the menu states sauceS) Did not leave a tip and no plans to return now. Such a shame as last year when we were down to visit it was very good.

Taking 67 people really tested this fairly new owner and some new staff. On Sunday October 11th 2015, and after regular contact with the Griffin to expect about 50 people, we arrived with 67. Luckily we had pre ordered the meals. Space was very tight but they made a sterling effort to get us all in. Fortunately the weather was sunny and warm so four of our party opted to eat outside. The staff were very helpful and obliging and the food was served fairly quickly. The meal was very good so I can recommend the roast beef and roast chicken which was locally sourced.Vicki the owner was very helpful and assisted if there were any queries. We had a few diabetics in our party and they needed serving quickly, and that was done. All in all a place to recommend. The address as stated is incorrect as it is in YOXFORD which is several miles from Saxmundham.

I had the misfortune to attend the curry nite. The barman was incompetant, the atmosphere aweful, lighting a few joss sticks does not turn a country pub into an indian restaurant. The food was dire, the popadoms greasy, the dips straight from the packet, the curry insipid and the rice boil in the bag. I left before the pudding arrived. The Griffin is an extinct creature on this showing this pub needs to go the same way. Take my advice, unles you are a maschochist go somewhere else. Whoever is behind this pathetic operation is in the wrong business. I would write more of the same but alas I need to cook.
