A very cosy, friendly pub with good choice of beer. Good menu choice, proper home cooking, with generous portions of tasty traditional dishes. We had a great meal, with efficient & good natured service.

At last I’ve managed to talk myself out of my addiction to the delicious bigos! So this time, with only minor regret, I had fantastic fish cakes and sweet potato fries. They were great and so was my wife’s mac and cheese. We’d started with whitebait and we finished with ice cream and apple crumble. They Greys are so consistently getting it right! It’s great to see. The dining room was satisfyingly busy. Oh and a great guest pint too – Consett Ale Works: Steeltown Bitter.

We booked the restaurant at this pub over 2 months in advance and had a confirmation by email. However, when we arrived our booking had been 'lost'. We were told that the restaurant was full so we would be served in the bar. Also, they said that they would let us know what had happened with our booking... but they never did. We were seated on a small table right below a TV showing a football match... hardly the best atmosphere for a cordial dinner. The food was OK (nothing to write home about), but the fact that we were in the middle of people cheering on their teams on the TV made it uncomfortable and extremely disappointing. We left immediately after eating our roasts and didn't bother with dessert. We did send the confirmation email to them so they could let us know what had happened, but didn't get a response. There are a lot of better restaurants in the area so go to these instead.

Staff here couldn’t be more welcoming and accommodating. We got their last table in the bar last minute one evening. Dogs aren’t just welcome here, they’re treated like paying guests! They have a Doggie Bar with treats and water for them and made a fuss of by the team. Had a Roast Lamb and Fish and chips, very tasty and good value for money. The ale was nice too. There’s a very homely feel here, clearly often frequented by locals and visitors alike, lovely atmosphere, even a jukebox! Well worth a visit. We would definitely return. Thank you to The Grey’s team!

We went last night just for a couple well priced beers and made a booking for a meal the next day. We especially enjoyed the very dog friendly ambiance complete with jars of biscuits. Only booked The Grays Inn at the last minute and I'm so glad we got in. Excellent Sunday lunch, at a very reasonable price, roast beef and all the trimmings including a giant Yorkshire pudding. 4 hand pulls, on the bar, all at the best price we'd found all weekend. Very friendly owners. I will definitely go back if we are back up that way again.

A ‘proper’ village pub. Had a pleasant meal there this evening with my wife. Staff very pleasant. A basic menu. I enjoyed the fish, chips and mushy peas. My wife had the sea bass with sweet potato fries. For desert I opted for the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream whilst my wife opted for two scoops of ice cream. Good selection of local beers. I enjoyed the Lindisfarne bitter.

My wife and I booked a table for 6.30 pm on Sunday. On entering the bar was heaving and very loud. To be fair, the small restaurant room behind was fine. First of all, the staff were outstanding but the food we felt, was somewhat mediocre. We both had potato skins for starters and the chef really needs to think about quality not quantity. A huge plateful of oversized chips with a couple of dips does not make a good start. For mains, I had Hake with sautéed potatoes and an onion and tomato salad. Again, please think quality not quantity - half a plateful of potatoes with a small pot of salad and two small (but very well cooked fish). I enjoyed the fish, but nothing else. My wife had chilli con carne with rice plus a small bowl of tortillas chips smothered in salsa and cheese. Very average food and the tortillas really not needed. Desert was spot on - sticky toffee pudding with custard.

The food was really good with some interesting dishes as well as the usual burgers etc. between us we had pie, gammon and a polish stew, all of which was excellent. Homemade chips not frozen. After a coastal walk with family and friends we decided to stop for a drink . We sat in the garden at the back with our dogs. The pub inside was pleasant however there was one toilet for all and it was filthy urine on the floor and feces all over the toilet. The yard at the back was dirty and unswept the chairs and tables were dirty and not wiped over there is an apple tree at the back with fallen apples attracting wasps which hound you at the back of the kitchen there was cooking oil buckets thrown in a heap . The terrace was in painted and in appealing . We had one drink and left if the facilities are this bad I would avoid for food .

Have visited this pub many times over the past 30 years when on holiday in the area and have seen a few changes of landlord. One thing has remained constant - it's a great place. Locals tend to congregate at one end of the pub (same faces every year) with visitors at the other. We have always feared arriving to find it has been turned into an awful gastro pub - happily this has never happened. It remains essentially a 'local' giving a warm, friendly welcome to visitors. Food is consistently very good, as are the drinks; all the staff are friendly, welcoming and cheery. We went last night for the first time since last year and were so thrilled to find nothing has changed. Warkworth has a small nucleus of great places to eat, and we'd never tried Bertrams, so we went. It was a no brainer given the quality of other reviews. The only downside was that we had to get in and out early so were nearly the first people in hence little "atmosphere" but that was our agenda not the restaurant, and we were there for the food... ... which was first class. Superb hake served with a beautiful herby crab pate and dauphinoise potatoes. The flavours were immense and everything was cooked to perfection. You notice the difference with real quality and top chef standards and this delivered for me. The lemon meringue dessert was the proverbial icing on the metaphorical cake. Superb.

My cousin and I were hugely impressed by Castaways. I had been reluctant to go because about 20 years ago the original café had been taken over by a useless couple. But when I passed and looked in, I could see that its original atmosphere had been recreated by the current management. Our reception was very friendly. The café was full (always a good sign) and we were third in the queue. Our table was soon ready and we were seatedby a waitress. We were very comfortable and the atmosphere was nice. Many pleasant people there as customers happily dining and chatting. Good choice of food and drink. I had the traditional breakfast and my cousin had… I think it was avocado and egg on sourdough bread. We were both very content with our lunch. I will certainly return and bring members of my family to enjoy castaways. Nicely sited, easy car parking and great views over Seaton Sluice and the sea. Get yourself along there and have a treat!
