Starter of wild rabbit terrine was tasty Bread was very nice even ordered a second helping however the mains let everything down The Partridge was very overcooked. The broth had zero flavour the pork was bland. The potatoes and sauce also had zero flavour. Would’ve been nice to have had a decent glass of wine however wine list was heavily weighted towards the old world and fairly exorbitant in price I raised my concerns with the serving staff and they did offer to comp the whole meal however I feel people should be paid for their time and paid the bill. This is my second time at this establishment and I shall definitely not be returning. Disappointing as Adam the head chef was actually cooking

We had the festive feast for 7 of us. You choose your own starter & pudding & the main course & side dishes are for the whole table. We chose the venison (fallow) wellington. It was cooked to perfection & brought to the table & carved by Will with great aplomb. Food was absolutely delicious & a wonderful way ti spend a dreary November Sunday afternoon in this lovely pub with family

Best meal I've had in Suffolk, by a long way! The waiters, waitresses and chefs all do such a good job, the food is high quality and really well cooked. A brilliant pub! A small room for improvement would be to have allergies on the menus if possible, but the staff were really on it and answered any questions immediately so had no impact on my meal. Thank you Greyhound Inn, a very special pub!

We've been coming here for a few years and twice since it has been under new management. Both times the food has been wonderful, and the service good - prompt and attentive. I had cod's roe gougeres followed by partridge in a delicious spelt sauce. My husband had spam fritter with truffle followed by silver mullet. We shared a Cambridge burnt cream for dessert. My only criticism is that only one end of the pub was used for dining, and the tables were packed in quite close together. It would have been better from a customer satisfaction point of view if we'd all been spread out a bit more as there were some quite loud guests near us.

We went there for my parents 39th anniversary, but, although the atmosphere inside was welcoming, the food certainly broke the bank for us and is a little too posh for us villagers - it was delicious, though. Even though, we'll visit for a pint, the food is not for us unfortunately

Second edit: so good we went back, and it was even better. This time two things had changed and one had stayed the same. The same; the food was excellent. I had Partridge which was tasty and succulent. When I've cooked partridge it's always been dry and mean, but the chef at the Greyhound knows his stuff and this was a plump sweet little bird in a strong sauce with some lovely peas and crispy potatoes. My wife & daughter had the belly pork with white beans and loved it. I had what they left of that and also loved it. The beans were wonderfully tender and flavoured with sage and the pork was as piggy as you like. Comfort food to remember. My only quibble is that maybe a steak knife would be useful for people eating the partridge because I wanted to pick lots of little bits off that I couldn't with my table knife. Wonderful pump street chocolate mousse for pud, wife had a ginger crumble with vanilla set cream which was reported as exceptional. The wine list is still brilliant, and yet again almost everything on the menu could be had gluten free. I think that there were only three changes (one of which was the ginger crumble so I didn't get to actually try that, not that wifey was for sharing in any case). What changed? This time the service (which was good last time but a bit confused) was perfect, not a foot wrong. Still friendly and fun, but absolutely on it as well. Second, last night the fire was lit which changed the vibe in the pub a lot. It was like a scene from one of those novels about English villages in the winter which feature a main character based on a younger Bridget Jones with more florid mental health issues, and an author really keen on royalties and a film deal. Anyway, it was great. We loved it, you will too, go go go. Here's my first review if you are still reading: The foods the thing here. It's a typical village pub, situated in a very quiet spot next to the church. The owners pack in as many diners as practical, but book in advance because it won't take much of a rush to mean you won't get a table. Service did get a little bit confused, but everyone is really friendly and clearly trying to make sure we all have a good time. We went at "back to uni" time, so maybe the staff were in change over mode. Anyway, needing to ask twice isn't a sin, bringing the wrong thing would be a sin - but the staff swallowed their embarrassment and came and checked so all was well. I had the Suffolk Coppa (not sure of the spelling) - anyway, it was slices of ham and as good as anything you can get in Spain. Then deviled kidneys which were rich, tasty and tender in an unctuous and silky sauce followed by strong tasting and crispy hogget chops. The hogget came with sweet sqashes, sweetbreads (maybe from the same sheep) and goats cheese. It was brillliant. My wife had the crab bisque and then some wonderful mushrooms. The chef catered for my gluten intolerance allowing me a very good choice of dishes - just a few things were out of bounds due to relying on toast and other unavoidables. We finished with a raspberry sorbet. I tried one of the strange liqueurs from the menu as well but didn't like it much - I think it tasted like cough medicine. On the brighter side the cocktails are carefully mixed with ingredients chosen as carefully as those on the food menu and the wine list is to win the lottery for. There are reasonable and good options by the glass for folks that might not be in Richard Bransons class when it comes to splashing the cash. Food is served on eclectic plates, I think that symbolizes the approach, which is a focus on the things that matter, the customers, and the food, and the wine, rather than the table or the uniforms or the fonts on the menu. In terms of price, this is expensive, for Suffolk, but reasonable for London. My goodness though, it's worth it, and we will be coming back. This is heartfelt cooking and a careful curation of all the aspects of a beautiful meal. You would have to travel a very, very, long way to find better.

Genuinely the best meal I have ever eaten in Suffolk. A creative menu which changes weekly to incorporate seasonal produce, clearly crafted with genuine knowledge and passion - and meaningful vegetarian options rather than a meatless addition added as an afterthought (common in so many eateries!) The staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, and the place itself charming and tasteful. I look forward to coming back (several times!) and introducing everyone I know to this place! Thank you, Greyhound!

We visited by chance, taking a stroll past the pub, thought we would call in and have a drink, as could sit out in the garden with the dog. I felt it necessary to question the cost of drinks as it seemed much more than our usual encounters for the same drinks. The beer purchased was a bit excessive but not out of context, but I was very shocked to hear that for a splash of lime cordial with tap water, I was charged £2.20. Most places I have been its anything from 50p to £1.20. its not about the money, its more on the principal of paying its worth so I asked the question, 'would this mean that If I had half pint of lemonade with a splash of lime, it would cost nearly £5' ? I was told that they have a button on the till for lime splash and that what comes up. Feeling rather put out, on returning home I emailed the pub twice but received no answer to my question. So I thought I would put here instead.

I don’t like pickles but tried there and was surprised how nice they were the best but is the black sourdough bread though

I don’t often write reviews but felt obliged. My family and I live in London and I am fortunate enough to eat at some lovely restaurants. I would consider this the best meal I have had for years. The menu was exciting, seasonal and ambitious - it varies weekly based on produce but you can tell that a lot of time and thought has gone into the menu. To start we had oysters with delicious pickled gooseberries; rich and sweet tomato tart; and lamb sausage. For mains we had bbq hoggett (an amazing plate of food), pork chop and sea bass. All beautifully cooked and with subtle but interesting twists i.e. the smokiness of the hoggett and the peaches with the pork etc. For dessert, the freshly made apricot and almond tart; the local blue cheese with honey; and the bay and honey ice cream all were incredible (with the home made ice cream being the pick of the bunch!). The service was superb from start to finish, with the host welcoming us warmly at the door! The pub still managed to maintain a great ambience despite the fine-dining quality of the food. I would (quite aggressively) recommend this pub to anyone fortunate enough to be in the area - simply superb!!!

I booked this meal for a foodie friends birthday- she was desperate to try this place out. Due to location, I was designated driver; over an hour into the next county. When booking, the website specifically asked it if was a special occasion, which it was, so I put it in the box. Now the food was great- the menu exciting and seasonal. Great. However, service was slow, and then rushed at the end and I was really disappointed that having asked if it was a special occasion, nothing was made of it. They could have stuck a candle in her dessert (which we paid for) or got the chef to sign a postcard or something. Even the chef coming out to speak to her would have made her night. Disappointing. If i was local, I would eat there again, but I don't think I will travel again.

Wow, everything about the cooking was special. The restaurant offers fine dining in an olde worlde setting. The servers are friendly and attentive. We initially ate at Sunday lunchtime. They don't offer a traditional Sunday lunch, but hey you can get that anywhere. We were so delighted with the experience that we booked to go later in the week. I only wish we lived nearer so that we could become regulars. The menu requires a masterchef fan to understand some words - but you can google. The snack (an oyster in gooseberry vinegar that I ate as a starter) was perfect. Bass with a tomatoey bean base was perfectly balanced. I wanted to keep on eating it. The bigod cheese with pickled figs was a divine dessert course and well worth the slightly higher cost. At our second visit I had 'spatchcock' pigeon. It wasn't spatchcocked so I worked hard to carve and pull apart a complete bird. Well, it was delicious and I used my fingers to make sure that the bones were clean. My partner had beef on one occasion and hogget (lamb) on the second, and was highly pleased with them, particularly with the bean mixture accompanying the lamb.

It’s a bit like the emperors new clothes. When you strip away the hype it is a scruffy pub inside and out, disgusting outside loos, average unfocused service and in our opinion very average food. There are a lot of better places to go in the area. Specifically we arrived and were ignored for some time, shown to a table which was in the vicinity of the crashing and draughty door from the kitchen. The nibbles were cold, the starters uninspiring and the medium rare beef was rare and served with no jus or bearnaise. Really struggling to find a positive

Extremely disappointing to book a table for four for Sunday, be told late last night (Friday) that one of the guests is unwell and so needed to cancel table, spend from 8am on Saturday morning on the phone getting through to a FULL answerphone that won’t take a message and then be charged £100 (25 a head) even though they could clearly re-sell the booking. It is not immediately clear on the terms and conditions and there is NO way to cancel out of office hours as you need to call them and it’s extremely inflexible. I understand a charge if cancelling a few hours before but this is really disappointing and as a guest who has had multiple visits I would have hoped for a little more leeway. EDITED AFTER OWNER’S RESPONSE - there is NO way to cancel via the OpenTable app, the app tells you to contact the restaurant directly. I had checked first thing on Saturday morning - well over 30 hours before my booking on the Sunday - secondly after I called to cancel and was told you would try to reallocate the table I constantly checked the OpenTable App to see if the 12.30 booking would appear as available again on the Sunday and it wasn’t. I reiterate that I think being charged ONE HUNDRED POUNDS well over a day before a Sunday lunchtime booking needed to be cancelled due to illness is outrageous and to suggest that you had already prebought what was going to be eaten is absurd given that you had no idea what we would have been ordering….it’s frankly outrageous and extremely disappointing and, as I have already mentioned, having eaten at the restaurant a number of times before I would have hoped to have been given a bit more leeway.

On the face of it the lunch menu is original and promises much. Indeed our starters - pear, binham blue and grape salad and a ham and parsley terrine - were good. We both had the red mullet, aioli and potato dish which looked good but was sitting in shellfish sauce. The sauce overpowered the whole dish with a very salty taste - clearly it had been reduced too much or the chef had taken the salt pot too far. We pointed this out to the waitress who said "oh-- it's made out of crab stock". The desserts were ordinary - my poached pear was undercooked and hard while my wife's early strawberry and almond tart had little sign of strawberries. When I went to settle up, I commented on the over-salty taste of the main which had made what was billed as an attractive dish really disappointing. His response was "Oh, it's your palate..." as if we were to blame for the taste of the dish. I will not be returning any time soon as this level of arrogant dismissal of feedback is not what you are looking for when you go out for lunch.

I am sorry to say that the pub did not live up to the image it portrays on its website. The pub seemed a bit shabby to me and looked as though a clean and coat of paint in a few areas wouldn't go amiss. Notwithstanding that ,if the food was good then all those observations could be put aside, however the food was average at best if not a bit pricey. The Greyhound has been on the hit list for a while, it’s only 15 minutes away and was getting a lot of attention. Four of us went. The menu is short, I like that, shows that full focus is on the dishes on offer. To me the menu we had and from what I’ve seen of other dishes, felt classic French, meets classic British, with some unusual combinations and ingredients. The pub is lovely. Nice bar area, roaring wood burner, bar snacks available (we shared two as an appetiser at our table). Three out of the group said they wouldn’t return. I would, because the flavours were stunning. But it is let down on portion size. We had a venison sharing platter, it would have been generous for one, but it was stingy for two. But all elements did taste wonderful. Starter was small too. A crab bisque style dish. Delicious, but too small. One of the group had dessert. It was gorgeous and good size. Service was smiley enough, but lacking experience. That’s how pubs run these days I find, just don’t think they can hold onto staff long enough to get them to excellent. The massive issue they need to address asap. The toilets are absolutely disgusting and lights didn’t work. Be warned they are also outside. Hopefully they will address the decor and cleanliness of them very soon. Surprised more don’t mention in the reviews.

We came to the Greyhound having seen it listed as one of the top 100 gastropubs in Britain. We quickly concluded that it most definitely deserves this recognition. We love eating out and have been to numerous good pubs and restaurants over the years and the chef at the Greyhound certainly knows how to cook! The homemade black treacle and rye sourdough bread with butter was the best I’ve ever tasted anywhere, my husband’s fish starter of mackerel with a tomato tart and lovage was beautiful, as was my vegetarian starter of Treviso, blood orange, cheese and smoked beetroot with a linseed biscuit. The main dish of wild Suffolk bass with a shellfish sauce, mussels, rouille and monk’s beard was inspired. Completely delicious. The desserts were both great too as was the coffee. An excellent meal in a beautiful old building, sat in front of a roaring fire, what more could you want? The staff were as excellent as the food. Friendly, welcoming, attentive and professional. Have been several times and it has always been excellent overall. However this Sunday lunch today was rather underwhelming - something was missing and I’m not sure what it was, have they become a victim of their own success like so many good, new, eateries? The starters were tasty but not at the level of previous visits, same for mains too. Our main courses of half pot roasted pheasant were very tough - they should’ve melted in the mouth if roasted slowly which clearly they were not. With hindsight we should’ve rejected them and chosen another dish, but with friends joining us for a birthday meal it would’ve held up their main courses. I mentioned this twice to different staff members who asked, but with not much comment but, that ‘they’d relay it to the chef.’ Puddings, again, were not as good as previously - ‘heavy ginger sponge’ (my wife’s comment) and a very sweet cows curd and honey glazed walnuts concoction that I had. Was is just because of Sunday service, was the chef ‘off’ his game or was it a sous chef standing in?? Is it really too much to ask of a bill for £260.00? Disappointing.

Wow wow wow.... never fails to impress!!! The staff are very friendly, dogs are welcome, there's a good selection of beers wines and spirits, a delightfully decorated interior and a lovely garden which is fenced in for the safety of children and dogs, plus a car park to use. Then we come to the main reason people call here, THE FOOD !!! .......Its excellent... well presented tasty and plenty of choice. Very local ingredients used and seasonality is the key word. The menu is printed every day and uses the best the chef can find, on that day. I had tagliatelle with wild mushrooms, peas and pinenuts as my starter; my companion had smoked trout with horseradish and salad. I opted for slow cooked lamb served with fennel and potato gratin. My companion chose the smoked quail caesar, served with salad. We shared a dessert which was rhubarb and almond tart served with clotted cream and raspberries. Not one single complaint.... all was delicious and served at the correct table in a timely manner.... SO good 👍 Highly recommended.... one small point to note. This is not a cheap pub and I regard it as a place to visit for a real treat.... I don't think its unreasonable..the skill and quality of cooking and ingredients all speak for themselves. Well done ... I will return .

We called in at the Greyhound on our way to the Suffolk coast for a celebratory meal for our 20th wedding anniversary. I had read about the pub in the FT How to Spend it section. Service was excellent - very friendly and relaxed. And we loved the atmosphere which was again very welcoming and relaxed. It felt like it would be equally enjoyable for a meal or just for drinks. Our food was out of this world. We had curds with radish and mange touts with delicious crusty bread. The curds were amazing and went perfectly with the radish. We were also given some gougeres which had a lovely flavour of tarragon. For main course we had lamb with olive oil potato and peperonata. The lamb was perfectly cooked. Finally rhubarb tart for pudding. Lovely tangy rhubarb complemented by a sweet almost chewy (in a good way!) tart. My husband had the chocolate tart - also amazing. A fantastic meal all round. It is just one of those pubs that I’d like to scoop up and transplant to closer to my home town! We will definitely return.

One of the best pub meals we have ever had. The menu is concise yet thoughtful and each plate delivered so beautifully and well executed by what looks like a young and incredibly talented team. We enjoyed the terrine and agnolotti to start followed by the bass and pork. We usually don’t have deserts but we couldn’t resist given the quality of our starters and mains! Do not leave without trying the malt ice cream!! So pleased at how dog friendly staff he greyhound inn is and the staff were very helpful. We will be back to Suffolk just to come here!!

Fantastic to see the Greyhound open again and really friendly new owners taking this pub on and wanting to support the local community. We went for a quick drink and the selection of local beers and produce was excellent. The menu looks great but quite pricey and the selection of snacks is really limited - this feels like a restaurant you would go to for a nice occasion rather than a pub you would go to all the time for 4-5 pints / pie ‘n’ chips or a good value meal with the family.

Another nail in the coffin of the traditional English pub. There were four of us on the night in question. Three of whom were driving. As result, we had the equivalent of five pints of beer, one pint of lime and soda and one piece of left-over (and rather dry) apple tart. At the end of the evening, our bar tab came to £60! We, as a group, had gone along to show support for a charity pub quiz. There was a small menu of available snacks on each table. The cheapest option being bread and butter at £3. We decided to try the pork scratchings and apple sauce (£7), to be told that this item (on the newly presented menu) was no longer available. Having noted that there were no snacks available to buy at the bar (crisps, nuts, etc), I asked if there was any chance that we could perhaps have something like a bowl of chips for the table. This request was met with a very stern and definite "We don't do chips!". So table snacks were mournfully dismissed for the evening. For those that don't know, the residents of Wickham Market and Pettistree have but one pub within walking distance. The Greyhound. I am also certain that I do not need to tell anyone that the majority of us have sorely missed any sort of community social hub since COVID made prisoners of us all. Now we find, as we start to venture from our doors again, that the only local pub we had has been annexed by the elitist boutique eatery brigade, asking London prices in a small country pub. This is fine if you can afford it, but there a lot of people who cannot. So, if you want to have a quite drink at an affordable price in the Wickham Market/Pettistree area, you will have to do it at home. Alone. If you want to enjoy an affordable drink with friends and strangers in a relaxed and communal atmosphere, well, your guess is as good as mine, because the Greyhound at Pettistree is not the place to do it.

Food was great, not much choice by way of beer and the food was a little costly but not unexpected, it was probably on par price wise with other rural pub grub.

We've eaten at The Suffolk Sur-Mer 5 times now since they opened permanently (after doing a pop-up season). We had 2 great experience and 3 incredibly disappointing ones. Mainly due to poor service and shockingly small fish portions. High price, high expectation and very poor delivery. The menu is interesting and the food well prepared but I'm afraid we won't come back.

Had been in several times but not for a while, ordered our meals but where waiting 20 mins or more then told was out of steak so ordered a different meal which came up a tiny amount ( small ) child size) I’ve had this before ( chicken tikka) and was more than twice the size, and the nann bread was brittle, so what has happened here
