A group of us stayed here in a family room. Beds were comfy and shower was powerful. Table service breakfast included with the room. Staff were all friendly and professional. Efficient service both for the hotel and bar/restaurant. The food we had for dinner in the restaurant was OK.

Walked the Ashridge estate and came back here for a late sunday lunch. We had a really enjoyable meal. Booked a table and it was ready for us. The service was attentive and friendly. My beer (Badger Best) was well kept and refreshing. The food was lovely and clearly not just churned out prepared stuff that many pubs do.

We stopped at the Greyhound for lunch, it was near the end of a circular walk from Tring station to Ivinghoe Beacon. We really enjoyed our visit! The sun was out and we sat outside at the back in the shade, which we appreciated. Service was first class: we were quickly offered drinks (we were thirsty because of the walk!), while we looked at the menu. We opted for sandwiches this time but if we had more time would have gone for a bigger meal. Wine was excellent. Very pleased and grateful that they had gluten free beer, and many gluten free options available on the menu. Our sandwiches were very tasty, with gluten free bread. The gluten free options are advertised and this is one reason why we stopped here. Thanks for accommodating our dietary needs and for the very warm welcome and great service. Highly recommend!

Very nice pub in the centre of Aldbury village. Refreshing drinks. Excellent walk! Lovely woods around the hill side. You get plenty of walking in. Tiny little lapols in the pond. Lots of people out and about on the hillside. Lots of fluffy sheep in the fields if you can spot them. 10/10 Loved the walk and visit to the village.

I arranged for my niece and her teenage son to stay here for 3 nights for bed and breakfast and 1 family dinner on the first evening. They couldn’t have been made more welcome. They instantly felt at home in the informal friendly atmosphere here. Great breakfasts, host got to know them and their favourite food/drinks. Would definitely book again when I have guests I can’t accommodate myself.

It was a sunny Sunday, and it was busy at lunchtime. We sat outside by the road. I had a nut roast with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, cabbage, and gravy. The Yorkshire pudding was cold, so I had it reheated, but honestly, all the food was cold. And the roast potatoes were more soggy than crispy. Due to the staff being busy, they apparently werent ableto serve the food hot. There was also very little gravy on the plate. Our drinks were also incorrect—I even went back with them, but again, we didn’t get what we wanted. The young lady, however polite and friendly, clearly didn’t understand us. It's a shame that the staff and chef can't handle a busy Sunday properly. We paid good money and weren't happy.

Just had to write a review of our meal last night, I ordered the steak ale and mushroom pie and I have to say it’s the best pie I’ve ever had! Served in a pastry crust parcel was unusual but OMG what a treat, I was actually doing a little happy food dance as I was eating! I wanted a winter warmer and this certainly was that! Pub is basic but fine but we were made to feel very unwelcome by staff & locals. It was torrential rain and we were told in no uncertain terms to “get out” and “make up your minds what you are doing, are you in or out, you can’t stand there all day” as we waited for a taxi to arrive in the doorway. So my 4 year old daughter had to stand in pouring rain and get soaked through as it was made clear we weren’t welcome to wait on the premises. Do not recommend the hospitality of this venue.

The Greyhound Inn in Aldbury Village is a fantastic country pub! Nestled in a beautiful village surrounded by plenty of scenic walking trails, it’s the perfect spot to stop off after exploring the nearby woods. The pub itself is warm and inviting, with cozy fireplaces and outdoor seating for sunnier days. We stopped in for a drink during a walk and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. Not much filling in the Tuna Sandwich, which was a huge surprise. 90% bread so quite disappointing. Was asked to vacate table after just over an hour which was also disappointing given the slow service. Slow service expected on a Sunday however they need to review table times as first time I’ve ever been asked to vacate & sort of dampened the occasion. Generally a good pub tho, would just avoid on a Sunday again.

Had lunch and evening meals here when staying here. Both meals were good value and very tasty. Only downside was breakfast when gluten free toast was ordered and it came out or the same toast rack as normal toast ( big cross contamination issue here ) Our room was ok but the floor sloped quite a lot so when in bed your head was lower than your feet this resulted in not a very good nights sleep. Maybe put some blocks or similar under the pillow end to level the bed. Overall a nice stay.

By this time, I had finished. Told the waitress. They did offer to do the fish on it's own but there's no point when everything is finished. Also no offer of reduced price, and they had the nerve to ask for service charge. I definitely would not recommend this place. Lovely spot. Lovely friendly staff and good food but accommodation needs some attention. Had a triple family room, clearly recently been decorated so clean and fresh but appeared unfinished. A double bed but 2 singles squashed almost touching into an alcove, no leg space inbetween. Single mattresses very hard and no lamp for that area. Bathroom tiny and tatty. No mirror other than small one in bathroom and no chairs anyway. Could be much nicer, probably with only 3 beds, maybe that’s the plan and they’d just not finished it. Would probably look for somewhere else if we were to return to the area.

I chose the set menu. The starter was four pieces of mid warm duck with some noodles. The whole thing tasted of nothing and wasn’t very nice so I left most of it. I then had haddock and chick pea with a slice of bread. This looked like some left over haddock and some chickpeas has been heated up in a tin of tomatoes and I didn’t like it at all. The wine we had was very nice. The tap water tasted strange. We then had bread and butter pudding which looked as if it had been made from sliced white bread with some sultanas and again it didn’t taste of anything much and was very bland. So overall Aldbury is a lovely village but food at The Greyhound needs to be greatly improved. I think they need to employ a good chef.

When I was a child I remember visiting Walton on the Naze. In my memory it was a big bustling resort full of fun. When I returned as an adult it was a small and disappointing place. Sandra had the same experience today. On the way to the Bridgewater Arms she was regailing me with tales of previous meals eaten and enjoyable visits. Mind you, that was more than 5 years ago. Our eyes lit up when we saw the wine list. Chateauneuf du Pape for £24. Sorry we haven't got that. We went for a Malbec instead which tasted like it had been cooked even though it was in a screw top bottle. We then tried a sip of their Merlot. Two lagers please! My first course of Tomato and Pepper soup was nice, and we played a good game of hunt the prawn in Sandra's starter. We eventually found a couple. Sandra's main, delivered before she had finished her starter, was OK, but my mushroom pie had plenty of room inside it and not many mushrooms. Both of our deserts were excellent and free, and the staff were very polite and helpful, hence 2 stars. It will be more than 5 years before she comes again.

Absolutely appalling service and for 10am in the morning the place is filthy! The barista got my order wrong completely, went back for the charged for whipped cream and got filthy looks. The. Got back to the table a reassured both drinks were the wrong ones entirely! The rude service over a bit of whipped cream and sheer hostility put me off going back to get the drinks changed. Absolutely awful service and branch of Starbucks, this needs an overhaul. And why can’t they clean? Grimy. I would avoid this at all costs.

Very nice location on the canal and the cheapest of the three pubs in quick succession on the towpath, with the best selection of ales. Proper pub!

Came here for drinks on a Saturday night, great live music and a real mixed crowd. Appeals to all generations
