Great place and great people whenever I go to Berkhampstead this is the pub to go to for me.

Looked like a clean and tidy pub, not too expensive, (considering it is in Berkhamsted), I never had to wait at the bar long, as was always served straight away. Probably would've been quite empty if myself and about 20 of my mates hadn't been in there, little garden out the back(with a small slide for kids), has a pool table, and a few screens for watching sports. I don't think they did food/meals, as didn't notice any advertised, looked like just crisps and nuts etc, over the bar. I left before the band started so can't really comment on that. Would visit again.

Great, friendly pub, always receive such a warm welcome. A fun atmosphere to watch the sport! :)

Came down to watch the footie and couldn’t fault a thing staff was great, very chatty and welcoming! Had a really great time and definitely will be back!

Terrible! If you fancy sharing the “ladies” with a really aggressive man, dressed as a lady, with really bad makeup then this is the place for you! With all the woke people in this world, an actual lady is unable to voice her discomfort at having a rather large male sharing the female toilets. Be who you choose to be but, you’re a man and should never be in a female safe place. On vacating the toilet, I was met by another two 6ft men dressed as “ladies” and met with more aggression! I was very heavy handedly removed from the “establishment” by the landlord. I’ve got a lovely amount of bruises up my arm. I’m 5’2 and by no means a threat! I would never recommend anyone to visit this hole! On leaving with our 6 ft 5 husbands, we were followed out and accosted by the man who was again, extremely unsavoury. Such a shame because the band was brilliant! The same can’t be said for the staff! Let’s just say on this occasion, the man was very lucky we aren’t fighting people like him!

I've visited this venue as an entertainer and as a customer and I'm always impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff. When visiting as a customer I love the atmosphere especially on band nights!

The Goat is such an important pub in Berkhamsted. It's the only pub with a dance floor and with live music being so important to keep alive the Goat is an pub worth visiting

Cool pub, not for teenagers as you must be 21 or above to get in. Djays on Fridays or Saturdays with very decent music. Large beer garden-with-a-view with lots of tables.

What a great place. Very busy & friendly. We saw a top band there, The Razorz. Everyone was up dancing. Excellent bar staff as well

A thrice of middle-aged men and hound exhausted (men) from a long hike and in need of refreshment (all). After some polite and completely reasonable shenanigans (I entered the wrong door apparently) the good ladies of The Goat were ready to take my order. We sat outside up in the garden area - very nice btw in clement weather - and the host brought the drinks to us. Staff were good. Young females who seemed quite busy but friendly. We only stayed for two rounds - Moretti, Lager shandy and a full fat Coke (all pints) - but if we all didn’t need to be back home, could have stayed and made a night of it. Rounds were £12 which gets you two pints were I’m from so I was happy with the value. Small but very welcome car park out back.

Excellent!! Nice Wonderful welcome back from all staff.Covid rules applied well and nice to see it was reinforced by staff. Tables AND chairs all wiped down. Excellent atmosphere and very enjoyable evening spent there. Well done to management & staff

The thing I like about this pub is that you have to be 21 or older to come here, I think all pubs should be that way as 18 year olds cannot handle their drink and too immature to drink in public.

Decent pub, friendly barmaid with good sense of humour.

Since coronavirus and lockdown hit I was very nervous about venturing out for my first pub experience. Coming to the Goat in Berkhamsted was fab! Everything was regimented but relaxed. The toilets checked every time someone came out, hand sanitizers at every door and tables wiped over regularly! The staff were great at checking to see if we were all okay and checking to see if we wanted more drinks. The only thing I would say is cushions on the benches outside in the courtyard area. But everyone social distanced and played by the rules. Let’s hope it continues and we will have a great time drinking in a pub again! Well done The Goat! You’ve done a fantastic job! Keep it up!

How was the Goat? About what you'd expect on a Friday evening. Slightly rubbish band etc........ A pint of Side Pocket from Tring Brewery almost made up for it.

Great place when the bands are on but I'm not sure how they work out there costs, every round is double the price of Witherspoon's beforehand .

Ive been to the goat a few times and can defintaly say that i have not been disaapointed. The live bands that have played have been excellent, great selection/variety of bands that have played at the goat. good nigth out with friends & family that also enjoy live music. good vibe from everyone that goes there regualry. it can be abit over crowded but that is the only downside in my opinion but hey you cant get the best of both worlds.

If you like live music of different types then try the goat. Plenty of beers and wines, basic bar food, and space to dance to the music if you are so inclined.

Great pub, with football, darts and pool. Lovely barmaid when we were there too. Only downside is that it was on the pricey side.

Watched my wine was tipped away By the so called owner of the pub and when confronted denied it and threw me out 20.50 for bottle of cheap rosey not enough for landlord as he threw 3 full glasses of my wine away no customer care I’m left outside alone ( with a third bottle of wine in my hand ) very strange to let me go with the bottle ) my friend left inside on her own . ,Not a good image for the pub I won’t go back

Great venue for local music, friendly staff, good value

I have been in the establishment a couple of times recently, and have witnessed customer sevrice that would be deemed completly inappropriate in any other business. I have seen several bar staff whom seem to think it appropriate to do anything else but serve customers; barstaff who are more interested in their phones than people walking through the door. I have also seen what I believe to be the bar manager focusing all of his attention on female customers, most of whom I don't think are 21, and subsequetly not legal based on the "over 21's" they claim to be. Furthermore, I have seen staff ostracize paying customers seemingly on external matters. I feel this to be completly inappropriate as in any other working situation, personal issues would be left at the door. Not at the Goat however; I truely feel for some of the customers and for the way in which staff feel appropriate to treat the people that are keeping them employed. Some interesting graffitti in the toilets too, several obscenities scratched in to the paint work. It really does the air of beliving it is something much better than it really is. I have seen enough. NEVER again.

Good music and a good night it's an old pub but that adds to the charm

Great lively pub, plays sports and has music most weekends. Has Airconditioning!, and a nice beer garden. Friendly and welcoming publicans.

A fantastic pub if you like live music. Every Friday and Saturday there are different bands, many have been coming to the Goat for years, they are of varying standards and genres, but always make it a noisy and friendly place to be.

My friends and i visited The Goat last weekend. The band "Dilorian" was great, and the place was heaving. The bar seemed short of staff,but the ones who knew what they were doing were amazing and worked very hard to keep up. Service with smiles and pleasant to everyone

I will Never walk into this pub again! The only reason I've even given one star is simply based on the good music by the band. I went on a double date on Friday night (Jan 2019) and heard this pub has live music. The vile barmaid was outrageously flirting with my date every time we ordered a round of drinks and shockingly bought herself a shot of sambuca when we ordered four for ourselves! After checking my card receipt (which she huffed at when I asked for one) I noticed that I had actually paid for her shot that she demanded to have with us. When my date ordered a round later on, she shamelessly asked him if he was going to buy her a drink and when he didn't answer she demanded he answer her quick because she had others waiting to be served. Towards the end of the night I was washing my hands in the ladies and she came out of the cubical and making noises from her nose and then checked it was clean in the mirror- extremely obvious what she had just done in the toilet. I witnessed her collecting glasses from the pool table area and then approached a young looking lad and told him to follow her upstairs in the flat after she had locked up for the night, so he could make her scream again like last night!! I was utterly disgusted! I then assumed she must be the landlady if she lives upstairs on the premises. From us chatting to some of the locals whom drink in there regularly, I was told she is nick named 'Shirley Carter' because of her rough and chavy attitude, which did make me laugh. Worst landlady in history I think, completely tones down the place & instead of being known as a good pub with great live music it instead just appears to be a sleezy and common boozer to get high in and take in turns s***ing the dirty blonde upstairs after closing. Won't bother returning, will try The Bull across the road next time

My wife and I went in to the goat for our second visit to watch the live band, I'm a major fan of rock music. I purposely waited longer in the que to get our drinks because I avoided being served by the very rude 'geezer bird blonde' barmaid. She frightens me! Now I'm not normally one to judge, but there's Rough, and then there's ROUGH! She's either drunk or high. Or both. You had better tip her or she'll take a tip from you without even asking. When I questioned why my change was £4 short, she yelled at me whilst pointing her finger in my face calling me 'cheap' because I only tipped the barmaid who served me earlier but not her this time. Had she smiled and had been polite then I would have. I was told if I answered her back again then she would have me removed and barred. The chap sitting on the table next to me commented his change was short when she served him also. Disgusting attitude and gives the pub/venue a cheap and rough name in my opinion

Price of drinks are extremely reasonable for berkhamsted. Staff are super friendly and good fun. Few areas to sit, but never needed with great love music often being played

My friends and I went to the goat on Friday night. First time for us all, the music was fab and venue pleasant. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the rude barmaid serving. How anybody running a business could pay that woman money is beyond me. Impossible for women to get served by her, she seemed to only want to serve men drinks, not giving a damn that we'd been waiting a lot longer, noticed this happening a lot. Her language was disgusting, and her manners were non existent. I never saw her smile the whole night unless she was, not so subtlety, begging the male customers to buy her drink! With her short blonde hair, rough attitude and zero customer skills, she reminded me of Shirley Carter from EastEnders.

Just popped in for a pint,quite suprised that it was abit down market for the town,but didn't see anywhere that was better,probably not the best impression of the area.

Genuinely the best pub I've ever been to. I got a 'cheers' vibe from it, where I felt that everybody was friendly and welcoming. If I lived closer, it could easily be a home away from home for me! I highly recommend it.

Absolutely perfect pub if you are under 22 or over 40 apparently. Between these ages and it may not be for you. They often have live bands which can be quite noisy if you like a quiet pub like myself, however the band playing on my latest visit was quite talented and added to the evening.

Didn't see this at its best on a quiet Friday lunchtime, but it's quite a large pub which focusses on providing regular live music and is themed accordingly, with some great classic rock music posters on the walls. There's also a pool table. The staff were welcoming and efficient. May well return another time for the music!

Nice warm fire in the winter bar and restaurant quite full on a Saturday

I visited the Goat one evening this week. I know the pub usually has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. However, on this occasion I noticed that there was a change in the air. The girl behind the bar looked disengaged and seemed to be more interested in doing anything but working. The thing that stood out for me however was the music being played; it was much louder than normal, and not of the genre that what I was really looking for after a hard day work. I was especially shocked by the choice language being blared down my ears in a couple of the songs. I honestly do not think it is appropriate to have music with swear words in playing in public spaces, especially at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. The pub advertises itself as "child-friendly", However, I will not be bringing my children in here anytime soon!

This pub is exactly what it should be - a great pub with live music and sport, serving decent beers. It also had a great garden at the back which the landlord has recently upgraded significantly - so it works for the kids when the weather is nice (and is has a good climbing frame to keep them occupied) Reviewers need to realise that this pub serves its purpose VERY well. We have enough gentrified drinking establishments in the town - we need the Goat. No other pub has live music to the extent that the Goat does. No other pub in Berkhamsted lets you watch sport with a pint. No other pub, for that matter, has a decent garden for the kids. Not everything in this world has to become a faceless hipster joint. Thank you The Goat. Don't ever change.

Very disappointed with the way we were treated at the Goat tonight. Had a friends party (joint with three people) and spent a lot of money to say the least and the whole time we were constantly watched by the bar staff, told to stop touching the speakers (of which no one touched and had paid a large amount for) and that we had to turn the very quiet music off as it was the law to do so at 7.15 (also not true). Adding again, a lot of money was spent to be treated so poorly. The bar staff also decided to snatch our party props off of us as well, which is appalling customer service in all honesty. We won't be coming back again nor will we be booking a party. If deciding to book in Berkhamsted, do not book here you will be treated as if you are an outcast and not welcomed at such a so called 'friendly pub'.

Great pub friendly staff, and a fun atmosphere, a range of music for a range of ages, over 21's. This all equates to a great atmosphere quiet in the week and with the bands on a Friday and Saturday it can be rather busy.

Outside certainly didn't match the inside. Vety traditional looking pub from the outside but a trendy bang upto date bar inside! Open, clean and very modern bar. TV screens, live music, pool table and music posters and album covers throughout the ages covering one wall. A few customers and dogs are also welcome. Good choice of beers and drinks. Toilets clean and well maintained. Definitely glad we ventured inside, never go by outside appearances alone.
