The food took a long time to come, mother in law and father in law had already finished their dinner before ours even arrived. My kids were complaining they were hungry so I went to see how much longer the food would take, I asked politely. I then was sworn at by the chef and informed I should be more patient. I will never enter the place again. Terrible customer service and completely unacceptable behaviour.

Food for a wake was an absolute mick take, I'm still shocked. Family members paid £400 for 3 bowls of chips, a few bowls of sausage rolls and then some plates of sandwiches that were ridiculously thin and nasty, hardly any filling! I'm hoping they use some of this money they fleeced from the family can be used to update the tired decor or do some cleaning, ridiculous.

Stopped in here for Sunday dinner during a long drive: was a mistake. Beef was OK but potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were inedible - they smelled and tasted like they’d been cooked in bad oil or something and made both my girlfriend and I feel queasy after eating the little we didn’t leave on our plates. We told the barmaid, who had up until then been quite friendly, but she didn’t offer an explanation or any kind of compensation and instead proceeded to ignore us until we left. Luckily, no reason for us to ever come back 🙃

Dreadful pub! I do not know how the old woman is still a landlady at this pub. This used to be my local until I moved away. I met up with friends a few weeks ago and the whole experience was grotesque. After few drinks out of smeared glasses, I went to the toilet… where human faeces was smeared on the walls and on the pipes. What sort of pub is this!! How are no staff checking the toilets??? The landlady was so rude. Shouted at us to be quiet a number of times. While getting drunk and abusing other locals too!! This is no family pub. I wouldn’t bring children here!! I even gave them the benefit of the doubt tonight and the landlady and her husband were fighting with another local resulting into tables being thrown, foul language and screaming!! Take your money elsewhere!!!

First time here & will definitely be going back. Lovely building full of nostalgia. Friendly and helpful staff. Decided on something to eat, and the menu read so well. Can definitely recommend the steak and kidney steam pudding and the southern fried chicken burger. Both superb and just being able to taste the homemade goodness of it all. Marvellous. Also being able to watch the chef work was a bonus, as was him personally delivering my dessert, which was a warm Victoria sponge.. Which again I'd highly recommend.

AVOID AVOID AVOID! I’m unsure where to beginning.. I have never felt so utterly disgusted with a landlady’s behaviour. I witnessed on numerous occasions, her propped up at the bar highly intoxicated, intimidating and verbally abusing member of the public and her own staff! Myself and my partner, we’re extremely shocked by this and it made us feel very uncomfortable to the point we left, we luckily found a pub half a mile down the road. The White Lion. Lovely staff and great atmosphere.

Went here last Friday with 4 friends. The kitchen closed at 9PM it seems when we tried to order at 9.10. When asked if we can order outside food to eat inside the pub they said NO. But we did not think or realise that even eating outside food in garden area is restricted ( there were no explicit sign). And genuinely we never had this experience earlier as we always thought or misinformed that in garden you could.. We asked only to check if it’s allowed inside. We always thought in garden it is permitted. Our bad again. We ordered some take away chips and wings from nearby shop to have it in the garden. Literally no one in the garden and we sat in one corner. This was a mistake and we whole heartedly agreed and apologized repeatedly. It’s a mistake and we agreed. But the arrogant pub lady kept abusing us that we have disrespected them and no point in asking sorry. What else she expect us to do. We were already leaving the pub. So it’s not a question of asking us to leave as we are on the move. We apologized and apologized and apologized to point were we repented she doesn’t deserve any apology. She was just kind of provoking my friend. When we agree we made a mistake, what more has to be done. The basic courtesy is when someone apologizes you must agree and move on. Atleast ask to leave straight away or ask money for any damages commited.. But instead she kept arguing that without a point that we disrespected the pub blah blah blah. and we were not even sure what to do next. The girl serving drinks understood the situation atleast and tried to control the granny. Apart from that girl the pub is full of rude arrogant staff. Forget food or drinks here. Very limited options. Basic customer service is missing in this pub. What should have been a good weekend was spoilt by this pub lady. Never will visit or recommend this place.

I was passing through today and stopped in for a pint and something to eat. £5.15 a pint of Morretti, £12.95 for ale battered fish and chips. The food was really nice, but sadly very small portions. I had 10 chips!! This is the amount I'd expect in a kids meal, not an adults meal. Lovely pub, friendly staff... but I personally feel there wasn't enough chips with the meal. I left here and stopped somewhere else for a proper meal as I was still hungry. My friend had roast beef with all the trimmings and that was a decent (normal) sized meal. I wish I had that.

TARDIS of a pub! Looks small from the front but has had a few extensions in the 400 years it's been there. Extensive beer garden with 3 little chalet style shelters seating 8-12 each. Friendly owner and staff, chatted with me a while about the building. Beer was good, food was excellent! Ordered a rump steak, they were out so I got upgraded to sirloin for no extra. Reasonable prices too. Something to look out for and see if you can spot... Just for fun. In the conservatory/dining room there are five posters with famous food related quotes on them. One of them has a spelling mistake! Why not pop into the pub, order a meal and maybe have a drink or two and see if you can find it! Even if you can't I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit.

My wife convinced me to go here, and I regret nothing: Poppy (the owner's dog) greeted us at the entrance and entertained my daughter while waiting for the drinks and menus, the location is beautiful and relaxed, the staff is warm and welcoming, the food is fresh and cooked to perfection, the service is very efficient and professional, and the garden gives a feeling of "home". Generally an enjoyable experience. We were met with a very friendly and warm welcome. Food was very good, choice of drinks suited our party well and waiting staff were friendly and polite. The only negative was that the time between ordering and receiving our main courses was quite a long period (20mins approx,) but that didn't spoil the evening in any way. Certainly will consider returning
