Enroute to do the NC500 and our first night stopover was Gretna. We saw this pub as we drove past and it looked lovely so decided to check it out. If you’re looking for high end then this is not for you which I think some of the people giving the bad reviews were. This is a traditional pub in a traditional old famous town. The drinks were very reasonably priced compared to what we have to pay in our home town so no complaints. We had the fish pie and steak pie which I have to say was the best steak pie I’ve ever had. Staff were very friendly, no complaints by us. As I’ve already said if your looking for high end this isn’t for you but if you want good old fashioned pub grub then you won’t go wrong.

Stayed here for 1 night in June. We booked 2 rooms at £90.00 each room. The windows would not close.the heating never got put on.kettle was nearly at head level with sockets right beside it.the internet code wouldn't work. There has been absolutely no money spent on the rooms. I would class the rooms standard to either a dog kennel or a prison cell.

Good value at £16.95 for 3 courses. The Leek and Potato soup was pretty good, followed by Beer battered Haddock and Chips with Peas, which was tasty. Finished off with Strawberry Cheesecake, which was shop bought but a decent portion. Service was OK as the punters just kept on coming in, with only 3 staff doing everything. Toilets are a bit scruffy but we enjoyed our visit.

Went to the Gretna Inn with extended family for a meal in late January 2024. The food was outstanding and the portions were huge. The service was very good with all mains being brought out together and plates being removed promptly when they were (finally) emptied. Some of us could just about manage a dessert, which were again fantastic. I can't recommend this place highly enough and I'll certainly visit again if I find myself in the area ever again.

Nipped in for lunch with two dogs. Advised that we would have to go in the sports bar which in it's self wasn't an issue. Lovely friendly waitress greeted both dogs with genuine affection and was obviously a dog lover. Sorry didn't get her name but she chatted away happily and was really relaxed & pleasant. Our food order was taken quickly and arrived way quicker than we expected. No complaints about the food which was simple pub fayre. Shame about the décor which is shabby and the seats were particularly grimy. Can't comment on the restaurant side of the pub as obviously we did not entre that side. Being a sports bar there was what can only be described as 'industrial language' constantly from the three or four obvious locals sat at the bar!

We visited during the week for dinner with family. The server was polite but nervous. The food was horrendous. The Haggis dish and the chicken dish were over peppered. The presentation of the Haggis meal with mash looked like it belongs in a care home. The chips were just standard school chips along with sauces etc out of mini packets. We didn't fancy dessert as worried we'd get sticky toffee pudding with a dash of pepper.

6 off us travel to Gretna every year for a family reunion. We always book in to The Gretna inn for dinner this was our 8th year in a row. This year we booked these 2 nights as usual, when we arrived we were sat at 2 different tables guy comes to take drink orders 1 guest asked for a Kopparberg cider guy replied we don’t sell that, our reply oh has this place changed hands .No was his reply so the other 5 ordered the other drinks, then we asked what ciders do u have he replied strongbow or Koppenberg.???? Yes that’s what we asked for. So the drinks were brought to the table 1 had to be returned because the glass had lipstick on it. Waited a wee while still no order taken so my husband went up to the bar asked for menus the girl said to the guy that serving our table Why did you not give the table menus. His reply was I forgot. Eventually after ordering our meal and receiving it the steak pie was only warm and the onion rings were only half cooked. When I went to pay the bill I asked for the onion rings to be taken off the bill which they were we cancelled our second booking left no tip and we won’t be back . Such a shame after coming here for 8 years

We decided to visited here for dinner and we didn't have a good experience at all. The guy at the bar wasn't very welcoming. We got told to sit at a table and he would bring us cutlery. He came over put everything on our table not a smile or any communication at all which made us feel very uncomfortable. Again when he took our order for drink and food there was no manners and communication was minimal. Our food came quite quickly and we have to say the food was lovely and the portions were very generous. We finished our main course and were left sitting for ages. We notice that some young staff members had just started their shift (three of them). They just kept walking right past us on several occasions looking very miserable and not even serving us (the place wasn't busy at all) They were more interested in standing at the bar talking to each other. There was a poor guy standing at the bar for ages waiting to be served and all the staff were just talking and walking right past him. Wasn't nice to see as the guy looked very awkward and uncomfortable. Eventually a young girl came to our table, not a smile and she had zero manners. We then ordered dessert which again was lovely. We finished our meal and went to the bar to pay and again we were left standing at the bar while the two young staff members just stood in front of us at the other side of the bar talking for ages and didn't even care that we were waiting to be served. Paid our bill and again there was zero manner or customer service. I must say it was one of the strangest experiences I have had when going out for a meal. We felt like the staff just couldn't be bothered or maybe lack of caring or experience. Was a very uncomfortable experiance and it is a shame because the food was lovely but the staff are letting the place down massively! We definitely won't be visiting again!

We popped in as a large group travelling south on holiday. Every year we are given a warm welcome and are looked after superbly by the staff. Drinks are well price and the sports bar is a great hit with everyone.

We booked in advance, received confirmation email, but they weren’t expecting us. Staff were flustered to say the least, but found us a table. Service was a bit lacking…they weren’t sure what wine or beer they had…other guests had to tell us. Food was okay,...

We had a snack at this pub after deciding the flowers outside were beautiful and the place looked attractive. Inside is a different story, dark very dated and not very comfortable. The staff however were lovely. Dont be fooled by the first thing you see

Today we visited and as it was a Sunday i decided on a chicken dinner, big mistake.Where do i start?Chicken was very dry and not hot, roast potatoes were small and hard, carrots were raw, parsnips were rock hard and had a bitter taste.Mash was tasteless and cauliflower cheese had a vague taste of cheese. The peas and yorkshire were ok but the latter was very small. My gravy was lukewarm so they kindly heated it till it was more like molten lava!I had to ask for napkins as apparently us customers cannot be trusted to use the dispensers!I wouldn't advise anyone to eat here, had an upset stomach all afternoon.

We had 6x rooms booked for wedding including the Ash suite paid extra for family and guests fur a wedding the Ash suite there was no hot water for bath and patio doors blowing open and rattling all night. There where still gift left in cupboard from 60th party. We booked 2x dressing gowns and slippers and put on our bill but where not allowed to take them.rang reception said no hot water and attitwas couldn't care less re water or patio doors they also explained not to take dressing gowns as did not belong to hotel.. Reception staff very cold and uncaring it seen they have had your money and not bothered we where a small party for wedding but should be treated as well as a 200 party not looked down on like something they stood in .the ceremony at the gretna Anville was amazing couldn't fault it fool if laughter and fun but also very professional by all concerned even the piper was outstanding the meal was lovely but very very slow booked for2.30 started gone 3 two course took 2houes ..then had to chase staff for clearing tables as everyone was getting bored by the time we got to coffee and shortbread which was extra there was only 6 at the table

I have reviewed this Restaurant as part of the Galloway Arms Hotel, so this will hopefully clarify the earlier reviews. We have been on a number of occasions since the last review and we have not been disappointed with the food at the Nine Mile Bar & Bistro within The Galloway Arms Hotel. On this visit we chose two times Two Course Specials priced at £14.50 each. The Starters were battered Chicken Goujons, which was quite a large portion and Tempura coated Prawns. Both dishes were very good and the Chicken alone would have been enough for my Wife as a main course. (Small Eater). My Wife had the Beef Stroganoff and I had the Salmon in Dill sauce for the main courses. Normally, we tend to have just the main courses and therefore we had to take home the chips, which were provided along with the Stroganoff half & half. A pint of Moretti is £3.50 and a large Chardonnay is £5.00 and the total bill without tip came to £37.50. The surroundings in the Hotel's main bar is simple, but cozy. A 10 minute drive from Dumfries gets you to this Hotel and I think that it is worth this very small effort.More

Great atmospheric diner...very retro and great coffee. Good choice of ice cream and attentive staff...loved the old fashioned style.
