The Green Tree in County Durham

Corned Beef pie chips and peas, pie was tasteless needed seasoning, and overall meal only warm, disappointing but my friends company made up for the visit 64.00 for 3 people 1 drink each and a coffee each.

Great food, service and nice quiet stop over in our campervan. Beware the starters are almost the size of a main meal!!!

Food was shocking. We had a large party with no one enjoying their food. The sweet and sour chicken was hard with a flavourless watery sauce. I ate one piece of chicken and left the rest of the meal. No discount, alternative option or refund was offered. Only 2 fish fingers per kids meal with all staff bar the two women wearing different attire being miserable with customers. The women with blonde tied up hair was complaining about a customer whilst I was at the bar being served. All in all a disappointing experience, first and last time of trying.

My friends wedding meal held here absolutely fabulous food delicious staff exceptionally friendly we all had a lovely time great place definitely will be going back for a meal 👍 🌟

Found by chance in a lovely little village as staying locally for work. Dropped in for a meal, ham egg and chips. Any may I say I was not disappointed. Managed to fit me in as was fully booked. Great service and friendly atmosphere. Thank you.

Food was beautiful and well worth the money paid would recommend the spicy parmesan and the knicker bocker glory they're lush although I didn't have jalapenos on mine as don't like them

Food was very fresh & hot. Nicely presented & good portions. Staff were very friendly & attentive, also very clean & smart. There was a cosy atmosphere & everywhere was very clean. There is an old world atmosphere with low ceilings, beams, decor & layout. We had a very nice experience here.

Excellent service, however, you put us in the bar with roudy drinkers, not good at all, and food was, well, 2 out of 5, shame as it used to be lovely

This pub has been around since 1727, and with food and service like this, it will be around for nearly another 300 years. Very dog friendly, and also, it is one of the best pints of San Miguel I have had.

We were only going to have a few drinks but the menu looked great so we had a few of the starters to pick at. Chips are amazing proper homemade chunky chips. We sat in the bar with the lovely fire blazing. Staff were loving, will defo be visiting again.

Had a great family meal out. Very busy so glad we booked a table. Service was excellent and food was amazing. Homemade corned beef pie is my favourite! We noticed the dog food menu whilst we were there too so may bring the dog next time.

Sunday lunch is always a great treat. 3 different sizes of meals to suit all appetites. The crumble for sweet has to be tried to be fully appreciated.

Traditional grub at its finest 10 out of 5 , stunning setting, Old Traditional pub, very welcoming staff to us & our 2 dogs ( dogs in bar area only) , proper chips beautiful food , highly recommended will be definitely returning.

Travelled from Sunderland to this lovely pub / restaurant. Situated at the side of pretty Tudhoe village green with a garden at the back. Food was down to earth- delicous and plentiful. Best pint of American Shipyard IPA I have had + unpretentious Jack Rabbit wines on tap to compliment your meal. I can imagine this place to be extremely busy on warm sunny summer days and not to far from Durham to attract undergraduate + family for lunch / dinner.

Disappointed that at 7pm at night, my first TWO choices of main course were not available. This on a night when restaurant appeared not to be that busy! Standards appear to have slipped since previous visits

Service was fine until the waitress started clearing the table then presented bill and hovered over. Despite having over half a bottle of wine left we paid and were told that they were closed….at 9.15pm! Website and Facebook state closing time is 11pm. Our taxi home was booked for 10pm so had to be brought forward. Shame as food was good.

Regularly featuring in articles for the best pubs in County Durham, The Green Tree is a great choice for a nice meal, relaxed drink or even the Monday pub quiz (winter only). There is a small venue for parties in the beer garden. Evenings in the bar seem quiet during the week, making it a lovely place for a cosy drink by the fire. The restaurant, where they serve huge plates of honest comfort food is often busy - book in advance! A favourite place with cyclists, dog walkers and locals. They even have an apartment you can stay in upstairs.

Fantastic sunday roast lunch here. Took my mother and wife and we agreed it was the best sunday roast we had eaten out in county durham. Superb service from staff and excellent value for money. Everything is freshly cooked and home made. Just brilliant!

Called in and was lucky to get a table for 4 ....the staff were really friendly and we were served quickly ...everyone ordered something different and it was all delicious .....well cooked , piping hot and good sized portions ....would definitely recommend and will be going back again soon !!

Disappointing Sunday lunch... frozen vegetables.. undercooked... gravy cold. .beef lacked flavour.. not their usual standard..

This pub wasnt even open at 12.30 for lunch yet google said open from 12 till 11 disappointed.

Had a delicious Christmas Fayre. Food was delicious and service excellent.

First time visit... definitely recommended!

The restaurant wasn't particularly busy when we arrived. However, from ordering 3 meals, we waited over an hour for our food. Was it worth the wait? Indeed, not. Food uninviting and dry. Afterwards, we were asked if we would like to see the desert menu, and we said that we would. 40 minutes later after we were still waiting for the menu, so we finished our drinks and left. First and last time!!

From start to finish, the staff were very friendly and supportive. Upon entering the bar, the staff were responsive and guided me to our reserved table. The food arrived with good timings in between servings and it was beyond our expectations. Thank you for the courteous service and great veggie meal. Until the next time...

Booked the Christmas Fair for 2023 with a few work colleagues! What a lovely evening! Best meal I’ve had for a while! 3 course meal for £23.99! The staff were so lovely and amazing! Making us feel welcome and service was brilliant! Food served and present perfect!! A great way to start the Christmas season!

Really friendly helpful staff. Visited with our camper van and they allowed us to stay for free on their carpark. Lovely atmosphere with roaring fire. We wanted food but the kitchen isn't open on a Monday. They suggested we order a take away and have it delivered to the pub. Great service. Will be going back.

There is always good food here, prices are very reasonable and when I come here it's always busy as a consequence. I had chicken strips & BBQ sauce followed by beef Stroganoff which were very tasty and filling. Service is really prompt and the staff are lovely.

5 stars across the board!! I don't think I've ever been able to do that! What a gorgeous place! I booked a table for 17 on Sunday for a special family gathering. The food came out promptly and it was all absolutely beautiful!! The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was great! Will definitely be coming back <3 xx

Had the Sunday dinner, veg were the too hard healthy option which nobody likes, the rest of the meal was just ok, didnt have much taste, this place also likes to hike up the prices with optional extras that most people will order anyway, I dont agree with this, it should be in with the meal. Come see for your self and support your local pubs before they all dissapear.

It was my mother in laws birthday x they brought the cake out for her that I'd brought with me x lit the candles and then took it away to cut it for us x lovely staff very accommodating x

Found this while driving around. They’ve a few zero alcohol beers so I was happy. Big car park cracking outdoor area that gets the sun. I would recommend this place fully.

We used the overnight campervan parking option, in the car park to the rear of the pub, after visiting Kynren. Its so peaceful. Thankfully we managed to get there in time for a couple of drinks and found the pub itself to be really cosy and dog friendly. No toilet facilities outdoors, so you need to be self contained. We made a donation to one of the pubs charities as there is no charge for parking. Had the timings been different we'd have definitely eaten there.

A lovely village pub with friendly staff. Dog friendly in the bar and beer garden. Very tasty food, which they kindly boxed up for me when I couldn’t eat it all. You can stay overnight in your motorhome/camper in the carpark, just check with them at the bar. A really nice, relaxing atmosphere and somewhere I would happily return to.

Just got back from green tree the food was amazing I had chicken and ham pot pie with chips I said I didn't like peas so was offered veg instead hubby had chicken and chips. Staff very friendly and loved background music so chilled, would definitely go back

A quiet midweek meal with a friend. As usual great staff and tasty home cooked meals, liver and bacon for me and corned beef pie for my friend. All hot and fresh, yum. Although I didn't have the dog with me the bar is very dog friendly and there is a great dog menu as well.

Have visited this area before but never frequented this pub/restaurant, but we are always looking for somewhere new to try so on this occasion we decided to call in. Our first experience were the staff, so helpful and welcoming, whilst they were busy we were shown to a table in a very quaint but comfortable room. Food was ordered within 5 minutes from a very varied menu and drinks delivered to the table. Our meals arrived and got to say we were not disappointed, well presented, hot, plenty and very tasty, we couldn’t fault anything. This pub was a great find and we will obviously be going back again

Attended our grandaughters Christening meal on Saturday, (21) people, the staff, the meal, the atmosphere absolutely fantastic. We live 3 hours away from The Green Tree, however the next time we visit our granddaughter, we will certainly be visiting the Green Tree again. Very high praise to you all.

The vegan options were very disappointing, especially the burger. Staff were extremely nice and helpful. Lovely garden for kids&dogs

Went to a birthday party, food service all spot on could not fault

Fantastic food and service tonight. Easy 5 stars from us and yep we had the strange one in the group wanting cold custard hahaha

It was a cold day and the restaurant did not open until 11.45 hrs although it had been arranged for an earlier time. We were a large group from N Yorks up to the Scottish border. We were allowed inside and offered seating outside but it was too cold The staff moved us inside. We were seated at a long table but due to traffic 2 members were a little late. The staff agreed to take orders for those that had arrived. The two late members arrived soon after so their orders were taken. We did not have to wait a long time for our hot orders. It took 2 waiters to deliver the hot meals. The waiters ensured we had everything needed including second drinks for some members. Eventually the table was cleared and orders for desserts etc were taken. Only a few ordered desserts. Many membrs commented that the meals were very warm and the service was first class.

Gorgeous proper pub food served all of the time! Love visiting here for food, a great selection of dishes to choose from and they’re dog friendly!

Just moved down from here so was first time in here bar staff not really friendly....made you feel very uncomfortable. So don't think this will be my local even though on my door step. Think bar staff need to be trained on how to deal with customers in a more friendly manner, customer service 0 to none.

Popped in today at 2pm with my husband and 6 year old son, promptly ordered our food and got drinks. There were a couple of tables but definitely not busy busy. Long story short, we still hadn't received any food or an apology for that matter an hour and a half later. Was told by the lady that she had checked in the kitchen, it was nearly done. Twice... then after another 10 minutes I asked for my money back, same staff member informed me she couldn't give a refund as the order was already put through? Then was told our food was ready and on the way and we would also get our money back........ another 5 mins then the management came out, gave me my money back and apologised and she didn't know why it hadn't been done..... Left with a very hungry little boy ☹️ and very disappointed. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

Been on a Monday a few times for quiz night bingo and a toastie. Enjoyed every time we went.

Well what can I say we had such a fabulous time. Sarah and I stayed in our camper-van in the car park originally only for one night. We went into Durham for the day coming back for drinks to the pub in the evening. We had booked Sunday lunch and it was amazing the quality and service was perfect. After lunch we retired full to the van to watch a film. On returning to the pub we were invited to join Murrie, James and family who were having a Father’s Day quiz . We truly had a fantastic time and feel we have made friends who we can’t wait to see again. Your pub is wonderful and your staff are lovely you deserve to do well and both Sarah and I hope you do so for many years See you all soon Justin and Sarah

Stayed overnight in our motorhome. We were made very welcome. There was no charge for overnight parking as we ate and drank in the pub. The pub itself is really lovely and food great. Very well run, professional and friendly staff.

Had my 70 th birthday family buffet here last week. The whole experience was so easy and everyone was very accommodating to my needs. The staff were so friendly and kind especially Amy who oversaw everything and nothing was too much trouble for her. The buffet was excellent with a great variety of tasty hot and cold food. There was ample for the number of guests with food left over. I cannot thank them enough and I had a wonderful day in a beautiful place with a private room all to ourselves. Thankyou again to everyone involved in a perfect day.

Amazing service and food!! We celebrated my daughters baby shower here yesterday and Murrie and her team were fantastic. They set up the room beautifully and all the guests loved their food. Would highly recommend!!
