We go on a Saturday for a coffee lovely place

First review I have ever left & had too, absolutely amazing. Me & my partner had a Full English with a hot chocolate each. The price for the amount you get, & the quality of the food is superb. Staff were lovely & polite, partners words when she left "Aww wow that was amazing" Yes it was.

Come here most Fridays x Absolutely my favourite cafe. Lovely atmosphere, great staff and service and lovely food. Particularly enjoy their Amaretto coffee x Would 💯 recommend.

First visit today. Visiting from Durham. Should have a Michelin star for their double fried egg sandwich. Lovely coffee. Great service. Will Visit again.

Not wheelchair friendly; tables are all arranged in a way that you can't sit inside without blocking the whole walkway, and not space to rearrange chairs either

Very unwelcoming, felt really uncomfortable sitting in there as the owner didn't like me having my pushchair in there. Think the owner just likes his regulars dining there and not new customers.

Clean and tidy local cafe, my new go to place. They sell teas, coffee, small meals, light snacks and sweet treats. Coffee is very good looking forward to going back

Owner very unwelcoming, the way in which we were spoke to was enough to put me off going back or even ordering when I was there! Didn’t even get in the door and he came charging out the back saying no seats available, and wouldn’t let me pull up a chair

Lovely local cafe. Alan and the staff are most friendly and make you very welcome. There's a full menu with a great selection of coffees, teas and food. Take out is available too. I would highly recommend!

Very friendly local cafe. Decor is quaint and original. The furnishings are comfortable even the bench seating as there are cushions supplied.. The food is made fresh and your wait time is very short. Its not a massive menu, but it has something for everyone.

A lovely little cafe /coffee house snuck away around a corner in Stanely. Pleasantly surprised food lovely and well presented, staff very friendly , nice environment and reasonable prices . Would return again.

Popped in for a chat with a friend. Not a huge place but very nicely decorated. Coffee was great and very reasonably priced. Didn’t eat but the cakes on display looked appetising. Will try them next time.

The food is nice, bit pricey. The customer service is something to be improved on, He did not want me or my child sitting on the green couch with food but these were only seats available. Made to feel very uncomfortable.

What a lovely little cafe! Popped into Stanley after visiting the fabulous Beamish Hall, and it was a delight. The staff were so helpful, the interior modern and stylish. Avoid the likes of the big coffee shops and try this. It was lovely.

Seen this advertisement on social media, decided to visit and it was closed. Shutter down, no sign up to say why. A local informed me that they might be away on holiday. Great, that's another wasted journey.

Went for a late lunch and coffee today. The guy at the counter was busy and said he would be with us on a minute so we sat down. We waited ten minutes whilst he looked at us and then got up to leave. To say his attitude was poor would be a huge understatement! In fact he was combative! When I looked at him as he left he aggressively asked “what” and then said it was counter service and he had been waiting for us to get off our phones! Despite the fact that I’d give him eye contact several times and there was nothing in the cafe to say it was counter service. He made no attempt at all to serve us or to make us aware that we needed to come to the counter. I’m completely shocked at his awful attitude. So unnecessary and so strange to treat prospective customers in that way. There are better and friendlier cafes in the immediate vicinity, as we’ve just found out. Give this place a miss he doesn’t deserve your business.

Visited today decor lovely very pleasant only criticism is hot drinks should be brought out together as my husband had drank his tea by the time my latte came. We had drank our drinks well before food came which was lovely timings are an issue

THE GREEN PELICAN IS A RECENT NEW CAFE IN MY HOME TOWN OF STANLEY, CO DURHAM. YOU CAN BUY ALMOST ANY ITEM OF FOOD TO EAT INSIDE OR OUTSIDE, IT IS A VERY COMFORTABLE PLACE TO BE IN AND I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE TO GIVE IT A TRY.

Received bad service, there's a weird atmosphere in the cafe and I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from the place I was ill after eating there would not recommend!!

Cosy little coffee shop just off the bus station in Stanley. Immaculately clean & nicely decorated. Perfect for a catch up over coffee. Warm welcoming & happy staff great you on arrival here. Anything from a cooked breakfast,cold or hot sandwiches,pies,quiches served with extras. Well presented & cooked to perfection. Now onto the sweet selection..., The cakes & cheesecakes here are amazing. They not only look fab they taste delicious,some totally unique toppings that you would never think to add to a sweet. Always light as a feather & mouth watering to taste. You aren’t rushed to leave & the staff attentive during your visit. The prices are very reasonable & for less than a tenner you are well fed! Really is a fabulous little place that I can guarantee you will return to!..

I would like to say it was better than average but whenever I have been in (always around lunch time) there has been a poor selection of baked goods on offer - the reason given is always that they have sold out. Where are all of the amazing cakes shown on the FB page and website? Last time at 1pm I got the last scone - it takes 15 mins to make a batch of scones, if you are running out of a best seller by that time you aren't making enough. Same with quiche, corned beef pie etc.

This is a beautiful coffee shop with friendly and welcoming staff. The coffee is the best around, and the cakes are to die for. This is a must if you are out and about in Stanley, literally a couple of minutes walk from the bus station.

Called for lunch on a cold foggy day. Its not SO easy to find, but worth the effort. The cafe was busy, but we placed our order and our food (panini for me and a baked pot with tuna for my son) came after about a 20 min wait which was OK. All good - I prefer my panini not flattened in a sandwich toaster, but it was tasty & well filled.

This is a local coffee shop for me and I visit regularly. It is small but welcoming. Lovely fresh coffee and a good range of snacks with daily special menu. Reasonable prices and great service. Would recommend this place to anyone.

Yet another visit while out and about to my favourite coffee shop , the staff are just so lovely and I'm sure I'm making my way around all the delicious cakes , and the most amazing home made cheesecakes ,a fantastic range to choose from and the quiche was mouth watering and as delicious as it looked. Well worth a visit anytime and are guaranteed a very warm and friendly reception .

Just had a wonderful light lunch with my wife. The staff are friendly, efficient and professional. The cafe is warm and inviting, plus the food is outstanding. Definitely worth a visit � Robert Barnes.

Tried here as we heard good things and we weren't disappointed coffee was very tasty as was my wife's haven't tried the cakes yet but they look delicious will be going again

This is the second time I have visited this coffee house. I had the full English breakfast. This was cooked to perfection and very filling.

After hearing great things about this place from a lot of friends I decided to take my wife and daughter to try this coffee shop out on a rare day off, from the moment we walked through the door the staff were really helpful and welcoming, panini's are great, freshly made and we also tried the daily special chilli and rice, amazing, my daughter tried the banana split which she enjoyed and can't wait to come back for another, my wife being a cake aholic had to try the cakes, great choice of cakes, odd one home made, and opted for the one cheesecake which the owner had made themselves, Nutella peanut butter cheesecake, she liked it so much she bought her sister some to try at home, this place is what Stanley has needed for a long time and we'll be back very soon, oh and the coffee is the nicest I've tasted in a long while and I work all over the uk and drink gallons of the stuff so I know my fresh coffees

Having seen the photos of the cakes posted on Facebook etc. and heard some good reports I was keen to give The Green Pelican a try. The biggest disappointment was that the cakes were nothing like home made, we had a chocolate cake that was really a bought in gateaux and some gluten free almond slice that was identical to the one Ikea sells. The choice was also quite poor - I was hoping for home made coffee cake, chocolate cake, victoria sandwich, lemon drizzle etc but there was a cheese cake (looked mass produced) and the gateaux and a couple of lack lustre gluten free tray type bakes, though the sandwich and pannini choice was better. Coffee was good though. Suppose it depends what you want - me I want obviously home made cakes like the ones they sell at Keepers in Dipton.

first time in this lovely little cafe ,was welcomed and asked for my order as soon as i walked to the counter ,i ordered tea and biscuits looked for a seat as it was quite busy as someone was celebrating a birthday ,two lovely easy high backed chairs by the window which where very comfortable ,there are a few tables outside so you can enjoy the sunshine and have a chat ,i will call in next week and try a cooked breakfast which i am sure will be very enjoyable,if your in Stanley why not try it out .

My daughter and i had a breakfast in this Coffee house it was delicious, lovely bacon and sausage as i am particular when it comes to sausage but this was good and cooked perfect. We have been in before but only for a Latte and a piece of one of their delicious cakes, every day there is a new cake to try, well worth a visit for a meal or a coffee, the staff are very friendly and welcome everyone, its spotlessly clean i would highly recommend The Green Pelican

Probably the best cappuccino I've ever had and the cakes are delicious. I recently tried the panini, again it was delicious, the owners are lovely too - always ready for a chat :-)

Enjoyed a lovely latte and warm cheese scone sitting outside in the sun. Staff are very friendly and remembered us from a previous visit. Exactly what is needed in the area!!
