The Green Man Pub & Courtyard Restaurant in Epping Forest

This was our first visit and we were all very happy with everything. Because we were eating before 4pm we were able to eat from the 2 or 3 course menu. A good choice of starters and mains. We were all too full up for dessert.

We arrived too late on a Sunday afternoon for any food but the staff were great: welcoming and sympathetic. We enjoyed a pint and mused that if we are ever back in the area, we'll definitely pop back here.

Given the reviews I was expecting a little more from this place. It's highly unusual for places now not to have gluten-free bread available so the planned quick sandwich and chips lunch was confined to just some chips. On a wet weekday lunchtime the atmosphere was minimal and the interior lacks any local character. Service was functional, but chips for one of our party arrived a good 5-6 minutes after the other person's food. Overall: Disappointing

We booked in for midweek lunch and chose from the lunchtime special menu. The Service was friendly , food was good and value for money and friendly atmosphere. We will definitely be going back again.

We went with my brother in law and sister. The food was absolutely lovely. Would definitely go back again and recommend it. The staff were very pleasant and efficient.

Really nice country pub, service brilliant, lovely location, great food. Can recommend highly the Sunday roasts. My only criticism is their non alcohol beers, only Peroni 0% or Guinness 0%. So many options nowadays for zero alcohol larger, ales and cider, shame only offer these 2 otherwise might come back more often.

We stayed at this lovely pub over the weekend. We had a family wedding nearby. The rooms are lovely, clean and well presented. We only had breakfast this time, which was excellent. We have been to the restaurant in the past and the food is amazing! Every member of staff was welcoming and helpful. Five stars are very well deserved.

A lovely country pub. The food was excellent, I had steak and kidney pudding which was delicious. The staff are very friendly and only to happy to help.

Lovely room, v clean and modern. The breakfast was amazing thank you. Breakfast service was a little unorganised but honestly the food more than made up for this. My only niggle was that on arrival the lady requested the rest of the payment straight away before showing us to the room,which again was fine but was a little demanding at the time which took me back.

We had a booking for 8 people at this gorgeous pub and I was blown away by how amazing our evening was. The food was absolutely incredible, I ordered the Salmon but from what I saw the Chicken Kebab & Halloumi pasta also looked absolutely incredible. The staff were also so friendly, kind and attentive to all of us - one of our party was celiac and the waitress very kindly took her order first and made her feel like her needs were considered carefully. I was also delighted with how nice the interior of the pub looked. If I lived closer I would definitely be coming here regularly, but for now I can’t wait until next time.

Incredible food and so much space!

Extensive menu, but I settled for good old fish and chips which I couldn't fault. The other three in my party all thought their dishes superb.

Visited for my Mum’s 50th Birthday - Food was amazing the Roast Lamb was cooked perfectly! Dessert’s were really good! Service was quick, professional and a pleasure. Also had some Pink Processco waiting at the table. Couldn’t reccomend Beth and the rest of the staff enough!

The starter of mushrooms was very tasty, but the main was fairly standard cuisine. The desert was good and more than enough to share if you wanted to.

We found this local pub on Google and read the reviews for the food which sounded fantastic… Before I mention the food I would like to say that the staff were great and it’s a lovely welcoming place, however the reason we visited was due to the great food reviews. The quality of food was absolutely shocking, the versions of the dishes we had were terrible. It’s clear to see that there’s no care put into making the food and the menu is revolved around the quickest and easiest pub food to make. It’s such a shame because this pub could be a real gem but unfortunately the food lets the good parts of the pub down. If you’re looking for some nice lunch please don’t bother going there.

We took advantage of the fixed price menu at lunch time. Very good all round, good food well cooked at a nice price, drinks well price as well, delivered by very nice waitress, lovely atmosphere. Five star rating.

Popped in here for breakfast before heading home after a couple of days in the area. It was a Tuesday morning and we we met with a cheery welcome. Lovely interior with lots of different areas to eat/enjoy a drink. We sat in the bar next to the log fire. Breakfast was very scrummy and very reasonably priced. Will definitely return if over that side of Essex again.

First visit. Extremely quick service. Traditional roast beef dinner. No complaint regarding the size of helpings. The beef could be cut like butter.

Thoroughly enjoyed our trip to The Green Man Pub & Courtyard. We had pre-lunch drinks in the garden, a two- course lunch in the conservatory, and then post-lunch drinks back outside in the garden. It was a lovely afternoon. The service, food, and atmosphere were all excellent. It's a real gem of a place, and I highly recommend visiting.

Hidden gem. Very welcoming and attentive staff, nothing too much trouble. Absolutely brilliant set menu choices at great value. The pies were delicious! We couldn't manage a dessert this time. We will return soon. Would definitely recommend booking a table. It was absolutely buzzing when we went on a Saturday lunchtime.

Just had to pop a little review in of this little gem. I'm a massive pub fan and somehow missed this one along the way and went for the first time today. What a lovely find. Countryside views lots if outdoor seating, yummy food and lovely staff. Will be back for certain

This place is ok. We got there at 3:30 ish on a Sunday and were told the kitchen was closing, so no more food. The atmosphere is basic, location nice. There are loads more placea in Essex where you can get much better for your money.

Visited during a walk with our club. Excellent. Certainly not expensive. Really worth a try.

Lovely building, but nobody said hello when we came in. We had to go and order food at the bar and find where the cuttlery was whereas others got table service. They charged us for a mushroom sauce that never arrived and did not get taken off the bill. The ribye steak was very chewy and insipid and so was the peppercorn sauce that gave us both tummy ache in the middle of the night, but might've been the calamari as well which were the only delicious and flavoursome dish. Did I mention the Chardonnay tasted like it came out of a box? Far too expensive for a pub in the middle of nowhere and we would not go again. Go to Ongar and you'll have a great selection.

A quality independent pub with lots of inside/outside dining options. Staff were attentive and everywhere. Best roast she ever had I went for monkfish, prawn and lobster trio was AWESOME! Desert was lovely as was cheeseboard. Already looking forward to our next visit

It has been a while since we have eaten here, but qas very surprised with the new look, food was delicious service was friendly and excellent menu to choose from, good wine selection too

Thoroughly enjoyed the food. Good service. Highly recommend. Very well organised. Had a special lunchtime menu 2 courses for £16.95. Definitely worth every penny. We had steak and ale pie with fries and veg. Scampi and chips. For dessert a apple tart with Custard and an apple crumble with Custard. Everything was tasty.

The BEST pub. The friendly locals are always in there, talking to everyone so it’s a very warm atmosphere for anyone new coming in! Aswell as the staff who are professional and attentive, and very welcoming + they have a log burner in the bar area which is perfect for when its cold. Food is always 10/10!! the chefs often come out to make their coffees and are also very friendly. Service is amazing , the drinks come quickly and the specials are explained which always sound delicious, when the meal comes the staff will get you any sauce or salad dressing and will always make sure you don’t have an empty glass! They have a 2 course/3 course lunchtime special menu for a very good price….desserts are beautifully homemade and taste amazing! It’s a dog friendly pub in the bar and conservatory area aswell as the courtyard out the front and the beer garden in the back so it’s always good to see dogs along with your visit. They also have a park down the bottom of the car park for kids to play in after their ice cream that comes free after their meal (from the childrens menu) also seating area down there for people to enjoy their drinks. Perfect location in the countryside, sunset views from the beer garden. 10/10 all round !! :)

I’ve been to the Green Man & Courtyard many times. I was there last night and was really busy for a Wednesday night. The food tasted and looked amazing, so much attention to detail on presentation. The staff are friendly and professional. They have two beautiful seating area’s outside to chill, have a drink and soak up the sun. I’m sure I’ll be back over the weekend.

Food is great but they have a bunch of drinkers who sit at the bar and make it a misery for everyone else. Bad language and fighting. We will not be going back

Superb food. Dover sole, Sea Bass and Garlic Mediterranean Prawns all expertly cooked. Cheeseboard good for sharing. Staff, as usual, were friendly and approachable.

Met the local post lady on the back roads and asked her to recommend a pub. She advised 'The Green Man' which was exceptional in every respect.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Able to provide gluten-free and Nut free yummy food.

I had Lasagne for lunch but if Steak had been on menu I may have chosen that instead.

What a great pub, have been past it 1000s of times and never ventured in. Service was exceptional and food was good. My only very slight criticism and this is very personal. I would have different bread with the Pate, it was detailed as Melba toast and it was crispy but all other ingredients looked home made except these. In my opinion it would taste better with traditional Melba toast. Will 100% be going back and trying the rest of the menu. There were empty plates all round!

They are a lovely family friendly Pub and restaurant. I got so lucky to get on the same day seat, "I was lucky" and the service and attention was out the mark. I hope they don't change. Will recomemded 100%

Visited for drink, got a very warm friendly welcome. GreenKing IPA beer. Bar area had couple of tables with conservatory one side and restaurant the other. Large car park. Covered outside area with table and chairs. Small garden play area. Can use conservatory door to enter/exit if parked out back.

We had an excellent lunch. The food was delicious and hot. The service was great.

Shared a table with 10 others for our annual walking group Xmas Lunch I had a pate starter with Roast Beef as a Main course & traditional Xmas pud to finish. The whole meal & experience was excellent, a great vegetable selection with the Main course. The staff get an A* for not fussing “is everything all right” constantly, just after serving. A great experience, Well done Chef for an excellent meal & thank you ladies for your great service!

We went hear to a private party. Staff nice and attentive. Food that was prepared (finger food /sandwiches) was nice and fresh. Comfortable surroundings too...

Parents favourite restaurant. Shame my Gluten free desert got brought out to the table on a plate decorated with crumbled biscuits doh .......

Really bad food. The kids menu is pretty gross. Frozen pizza, barely cooked. The fish fingers aren’t homemade and are greasy. The roast dinner (at nearly 17£) is by far the worse I’ve ever had. Frozen Yorkshire puddings. Why??? The veggies looked old and the beef was sad. Not enjoyable. I won’t be going here again. Staff were pleasant. But food horrendous.
