Visited last night for 60th birthday meal, due to numbers had to sit outside, pub was very busy and menu limited on some items, service was a bit erratic... The waiting team were however friendly and cheerful which made the difference in us having a great time. The food was tasty and arrived hot, at the end of the meal the chef came over and apologised in person which was a nice touch, he even reduced the bill, fantastic customer service. Will definitely be returning.

Just don't bother. Pub looked grubby, old fashioned and uninviting. Considering we've just been released from lockdown it was very quiet for a Sat. night and now I know why...food was awful! Surely a qualified chef would not serve that microwave reheated rubbish. Food was burnt, lacked any finesse and barely edible. Looking at clientele, I'd say a few non discerning locals keep this place afloat. They need to up their game big time!

Had a nice pub meal in the garden a little cold for sitting outside but no choice at present food came hot and plentiful we both had the steak and ale pie which was full of meat. Proper pastry all around mash and tender stem broccoli on the side. Good service from young efficient friendly staff. All COVID rules in place.

We visited on 25/04/2021 for a family meal to celebrate our daughters birthday, the staff and food were excellent. Although there was a cover over our table it was a bit cold but it did not mar the visit and the staff provided us with blankets to keep us warm. I will definitely return when we can dine inside, should the weather not be great outside.

My Partner first visited the Green Man about 18 months ago and tried to visit at least once every week as we were impressed with the food and the service. We went back today, along with her eldest for a Birthday Dinner and we were both glad to see that despite Covid the Pub is still there and so is the Food and the service. Now we've decided, at the very least, to Do Sunday Dinner as the Quality is excellent and so is the food

Like this pub decor good and friendly atmosphere. The menu has plenty of choice but unfortunately my choice was disappointing. Haddock wrapped in pancetta was not well presented and fish small and dry, this dish was not good value in my opinion. Other dishes looked better. Drinks good price and coffee in cafeteria good value. Would come again but would not choose this dish based on today. More fish choice would be good. Overall a pleasant lunch before dreaded lock down and wanted to support and independent pub not a chain.

I had visited this pub when I was working at Brands Hatch in 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere! We visited after having a great day at Brands Hatch and the food on offer (despite the current situation) was amazing. I had the sausage and mash, and who'd thought rosemary in mash potato would go so well... All the food is locally sourced as is the guest ales. We went there for dinner on Sunday evening which it seems is mainly roasts. From the moment we walked in we knew we were in for a special treat! The attitude of the staff was quite off hand and we were left standing wondering what was going on. We were eventually taken to our table. We ordered our food. When it arrived it was cold and old! The food had clearly been there all day and warmed in the microwave for a maximum of 5 seconds. You know it’s bad when no-one at any point asks if everything is ok. You are either amazing, arrogant or just don’t want to know how bad it was! Of course it was the latter. Even trying to get someone’s attention for service is a challenge - and they weren’t busy most of the tables were empty - with good reason!

A large group of us booked for a lunchtime meal, I have been here before but not for a while I am a Coeliac and need my meals to be Gluten free, at many eateries I feel like a lepper when I try to get basic food but I was made very welcome here and they modified a meal for me with no fuss at all and had some Gluten free puddings which is rare, often it is ice cream or nothing. Very good service as there were quite a few of us and very friendly staff, a very pretty location and homely pub well worth a visit.

When we visited on a Thursday evening it was very quiet with only a handful of people at the bar, and no tables occupied. We ordered a drink at the bar and told them we had booked a table. Without prompting we were asked if we wanted to set up a tab, and our table was pointed out to us.The menu was not large, but there was a varied choice. For starters we chose the Arancini, which was lovely, and the calamari, which was also very good. For our main course we both opted for the burger. This was possibly one of the best burgers I have ever eaten in a restaurant. After a lengthy 1.5 days travelling between the UK and Belgium/France, the last thing I needed was encountering the rudest, most obnoxious man I have met in, unarguably, the last ten years of my life, who was working on a Eurotunnel train from Coquelles to Folkestone. Brilliant. Another gem of a classic pub in the heart of Kent. Staff are down to earth, the atmosphere is relaxed and social. The food is top draw for a pub setting. Ingredients are locally sourced; the dishes on the menu are up to date twists on the traditional. The salmon main is one of the most exciting meals I’ve eaten this year. We ate a selection of different dishes, from mixed grill to fish and chips. All good except for some off wine. When I pointed out that it had turned/‘corked’, ie bubbles and a sour taste, the lady told me that it couldn’t have, because it hadn’t had a cork in the first place! Lol. Also that nobody else served it had complained so it must be okay. I’ve been drinking wine for about as long as she’s been alive, but I guess that here it’s not the customer who’s right...

We were 8 adults on a day walk. The countryside around is very beautiful and unspoiled and worth checking out as there are other good pubs around making the choice rather tricky. We were VERY taken with the Green Man for several reasons. First the flower displays outside are magnificent. The quiet location on the village green adds to the appeal. We were made to feel very welcome. The food choice on the menu - a set lunch, specials of the day, and lengthy a la carte choice was also impressive. Each of us (we were 8) said how good the quality of the food was in the choices that we made. So all in all our choice of this pub to visit was a great success. Comes highly recommended therefore.

This is an Excellent country pub in traditional village green setting. If your children like ours have a good appetite and don't care for processed fish fingers or turkey twizzelers then the Green Man is for you. The children's fish and chicken dishes were home made and a far cry from the mass produced options too often pedalled by many pubs, ours left full and happy. Adult menu offered a good choice and the food and service didn't disappoint. Very happy to have the Greenman nearby, give it a try.

Wonderful evening at this cosy, pretty country pub with a group of 14 of us visiting from South East London. Alex, the owner, and his staff looked after us brilliantly and had set up a great table layout which made the evening really sociable. It can be hard to coordinate the food for this number of people and it was especially impressive that all our main courses arrived at the same time. No need to wave empty bottles in the air trying to catch someone's attention for more wine either! We used to come to this pub for a meal quite often in the past, but it has changed ownership in the last year or so, and is, sadly, not quite as good as before. We came for Sunday lunch as a treat for my father's birthday. It wasn't especially busy and we all had the roast lunch for the main course. We waited 40 minutes for our food, and were given no explanation at the time as to how long we would have to wait or why there was a delay, until we came to pay the bill. The food itself was only average quality. The meat was good, but the vegetables were overcooked, and the Yorkshire pudding was tasteless (frozen perhaps?). The only vegetarian choice on the menu was nut roast which my vegetarian sister was not impressed with! Oh dear! We were very disappointed with the whole experience, especially as this had been one of our favourite pubs for a good meal. Unless they can get there act in gear on the staffing and food quality front, we won't be going again.

When I booked via the web site for a Saturday evening for four recently I hadn’t realised that there had been a change of ownership since our last visit. Our first inkling was the disappearance of the menu boards that had adorned one complete wall of the bar, having been replaced by an actual menu. The choice of food on the menu was less than before but there was still a good choice. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The food was well cooked, well presented, tasty and filling. We did manage three courses but only just. Sunday pub lunches are often a bit hit or miss with the focus - understandably - on the traditional Sunday lunch - so i was pleasantly surprised that along with Topside of Beef, slow cooked lamb shoulder and glazed gammon came an a la carte menu with some really interesting dishes on it. Celeriac and truffle rosti or potted confit rabbit as starters for instance..slow cooked beef cheeks (melting!), slow cooked pork belly, sea bream for mains....there is something for everyone here and it all really well prepared, tasty and on time. A well priced wine list with about 10 reds and whites (each) and staff with a really positive attitude. Can't wait to go back when the slush has cleared!! :-))

Had an excellent meal from the new menu but didn't feel like guinea pigs at all. Outstanding ham hock with homemade Piccallili, Rabbit, Sea Bass with Broad Beans and Venison. A really good meal and quite reasonably priced in a lovely country pub.

My wife and I live locally and have tried all of the pubs in our area for the best Sunday lunch over the 3 years we have lived here. We thought we would try the Green Man again, now that the new owners have settled in. I have to say they do a great Sunday lunch! I had the 'Shin of lamb' and my wife had the 'Half roast chicken", served with a side of Caulifower Cheese! . Both tasted great and I would say probably the best Sunday lunch I have had out of any pub in the area. The new Landlord Alex and his wife are both very nice and personable and its going to be difficult to keep this pub a secret when food is this good.

This was our first visit since it changed hands. As we live locally we decided to visit for a Sunday lunch. The manager found us a table, but unfortunately for us the rest of the main dining area was booked by a large party which gave us little space at our table. I had the beef and my husband had the pork. We both thought that the meat was good quality, but the portion of potatoes and veg was very small for a Sunday roast. You had to pay extra for cauliflower .. I think it was £3.75.

Had a good evening last night, friendly pub, good service. Food overall good, with a few minor issues. No walnuts on the pear, walnut and blue cheese salad. Lamb very rare, didn’t ask how we wanted it cooked. Flavour very good, veg selection good and properly cooked. Hope they can improve on the minor issues.

Booked this for a meal the day after our wedding for 18 family and friends. Wanted £100 deposit which we paid straightaway. Had used many times before and hadn’t realised the pub had changed hands. Very disappointed at the start of the meal by the total lack of options on the menu. Only one vegetarian option. Both of us and 4 other guests was vegetarian and there always used to be plenty of choice. They did offer eventally to make some other options reluctantly after I told them I couldn’t eat the halloumi. We were reluctantly given a couple of other options after a frustrating conversation with the waiter, one was “vegetable pie without the pastry, but you get mashed potatoes” so just a plate of vegetables then.

The food at The Fountain is, for a pub, truly and consistently stunning. Everything home-made on a varied and changing menu (almost always with specials of the day, including a top-notch and generous sized Pie), the dishes reflect Chef Fern’s wide travels and culinary expertise, with ingredients carefully sourced. We’re not local to the area but the food is so good and it’s such a welcoming (and very dog-friendly) pub, courtesy of both co-owners, Fern and Toulah, the Fountain has become our (and our dog’s) lunchtime “local”. On our most recent visit, we had a starter of incredibly tender Octopus on a bed of puréed potato and leaves, followed by the Fish of the Day - perfectly-cooked Cod with a Chorizo crumb with perfectly-poached free-range Egg on top, with accompanying veg. DELICIOUS. Do yourself a favour and visit this gem of a pub in Cowden.

Have been to Brands loads of times but never eaten in the kentagon up until now, pleasantly surprised when we decided to try the breakfast. Good value taking today’s prices into account and quality ingredients cooked well. Did have to queue up but the service was quite speedy, it was nice to sit down and eat / warm up on a cold January day.

We really liked it, the service was spot on and the food was great. The only complaint was the volume of the TV. Perhaps we are just getting old! The menu was quite small, but they also had two specials on offer on top of the standard menu. All food, I believe, is home cooked, so the smaller menu is completely forgiven on that score. One of us had the burger and the other the chilli. Both meals were excellent and really nicely presented. We also shared a starter, which was equally as good as the mains. All the staff were really good and the pub had a lovely atmosphere, really traditional which we love. The rugby was on the television in the area where we were seated, and there was just one person watching it. On full blast, it was difficult to have a conversation at all, which did slightly spoil the occasion, we did mention it to the man as he had the remote, but he was obviously a rugby fan, having said that we did enjoy it and would like to return. Thank you.
