The Green Man Fish & Chips in Barnet

I have eaten here many, many times. It's the best fish abd cops I have tasted anywhere in the UK ir overseas. It's not a fish and chip "shop" but a restaurant, so if the price seems high, that's the reason. All cooked fresh when you order and they can cook it in matzo meal, which is much lighter than batter. Huge portions, so don't hesitate to order the smaller size fish! Well worth every penny.

This great chippy goes from strength to strength. Fresh fish (I go for haddock or cod) and chips. They cook the fish and chips to order. I like the chips double-cooked, the crispier the better. Outstanding service. Tremendous value.

Great food, very fresh and great prices. Lovely customer service as well, forgot to order chips with my fried fish on uber eats and they gave me a free small portion of chips on the house. Class move from them.

This is by far the best fish and chips I’ve ever had I ordered a few times with delivery but dining in was way more amazing than I expected. Been walking pass The Greenman for years but never went in. Well today, I've finally dined in and tried their fish and chips and I was completely blown away. Ordered a Cod and Haddock with chips and it was freshly made to order, this could easily be my new best go to place. The fish was fried to perfection, crispy batter and no soaking greasy residue, you can actually hear the crunch from every bite and the chips were lovely. Good portions and reasonable prices. The restaurant was clean and service was top notch, the staff tells me 10 minutes my food will arrive and 10 minutes it was. They even bought sauces along with the food without me having to ask, this shows attention to detail, all the staff were superb! They were not overly busy but had a good flow of takeaways and I feel that they are so underated. Hands down, the fish and chips in this place could easily enter competitions and one of the nicest I've tried in London. Despite living far away, I will definitely pop in again when I'm in the area. I wish this place all the success and I can't wait to revisit.

Normally get a meal here if I'm staying in local hotel. I have always found that the staff friendly and are happy to advise customers on possible allergy cross contamination. Have never has a bad meal.

This is a great fish and chip shop with an attractive seating area. We’ve been here many times over the past year and quite frankly, it’s the only way to have your fish and chips freshly prepared, without the steamy “sweat” when you get a takeaway and eat at home. Extremely good value for money, a meal for two with drinks is around £25. The owner is lovely and friendly and really knows his business. It’s not the nearest chippy to us, but parking is free in Sainsbury’s for less than 1.5 hours and £1 for under 3 hours.

Love this fish and chip shop. We live in the area and get a takeaway from here most weeks. And eat in occasionally. Food is always superb and service is great. Very friendly. Highly recommended!

Just had fish and chips in here. 9 pound something to eat in, the food was amazing. In my opinion it's worth the money but a deal on this could easily bring in more customers. I was the only person eating in and there were few collections, which is a shame since it's the best fish and chips I have had in london. I would suggest if they did fish and chips with a drink for £10.50 eat in this place could become a goldmine. Why? Locally nowhere does good fish that is comparable to here. Nor is it cooked fresh. If the margins allow it this place would close down other competitors. I wish them good luck in future and hope the food remains as consistent as when in any area of London from now on I will come to this place.

First time to Edgware and the Green Man Fish & chips. The service was good. Surprisingly there was a lunch express menu for the elderly with a lower price. The portion actually was similar to the normal one. I really appreciate the warmth and respect to elderly of the cafe. The fish and chips was fresh and good.

Terrible service, very expensive for what it is

This fish and chip restaurant is a gem of a place in Edgware. The owner really knows how to fry delicious fish and chips. We’ve been eating here for many years and love the fact that we can also get a home delivery. Can get traditional batter or matzo coating. The portion sizes for take away are very generous. If you are over 60 there is a perfect size and price fish and chip meal in the restaurant.

Not a bad little joint, this one. Straightforward place, straightforward fish 'n chip menu and quite competent. The only thing that isn't on the menu is scampi - it was explained to us that it's not kosher for the majority of the Green Man's customers. Whitebait and salmon are available - not something you often see in fish 'n chip restaurants. I tried the salmon grilled. Result was decent enough. If I was going to be fussy, I'd say that maybe a minute or so less under the grill might have given a softer texture, but otherwise it was alright. Chips usually set like concrete in my stomach for ages afterwards but the Green Man version is not like that - about an hour later, it felt as if I'd never had them. Never experienced that before - might have to try another round to find out how it's done!

Every time we eat from here never disappointed it's what you call a proper fish n chips shop the food is delicious and cooked fresh 😋😍highly recommended

Had very bad stomach upset, could not eat anything for next 24hrs, it was like food poisoning,fish was dry and batter was burnt ...avoid this restaurant as they don't own up to their off food they serve and deliver...I wish I would have taken pictures to prove

Hi I have been regularly ordering from here and the owner Habib is very friendly but tonight I tried to Call the shop for delivery and the chap working there called Najib said that they will not deliver to my address (that is only half a mile from the shop) and when I asked to speak to the owner he put the phone down on me. My brother got annoyed and called and the same guy answered telling my brother that they did not have any drivers, which was also a lie. These guys are ruining this business if the owner is not informed.

I have tried to order today. I am a regular customer and always have food delivered. They refused to deliver because of roadworks in High Road. Not true because they don't have to come that way. They have lost a regular customer.

Excellent quality fish n chips run by a friendly family business in Edgware. The large haddock is huge, overhanging the dinner plate, always fresh, nicely cooked and the batter perfectly crispy. The chips are perfect, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the inside. They even offer a peri peri version now with a sprinkling of spice to give it a nice kick. Goujons of fish are also nicely cooked. Halal and Kosher friendly so very popular with the locals!

Fish has been good and bad(oily to the core) many times. We mostly did takeaway. Low on salt. Chips are good mostly. Packing for takeaway and serving at the restaurant is okay. Hygiene is good, never had a disturbed digestive track after eating. Pricing is comparatively low, more affordable for takeaway.

Been here a few times, and takeaways, and I can't fault them. I prefer this to my local in East Finchley. The Matzo Meal is really good. Cod goujons are a must. Lastly, the chips are proper chip shop chips.

Went out on a fish and chip hunt a few sundays ago, Was about to give up, as I turned round I spotted this place, and thought why not. Well, they cooked me fresh fish and chips, when I got home , it was lovely, not oily, the chips were nice, fish was fresh.. couldn't fault it Been there since, its still as good..You wont get a saveloy or meat pie there, but you definitely wont be disappointed with the fish and chips!

We have tried several fish and chip takeaways locally. Some are very good and none are bad. However, our favourite is The Green Man and now we have tried it we have no plans on going to any other! Fantastic food (we love haddock cooked in batter) and chips. Great value and service.

Please avoid this place. Ordered whitebait that was half cooked and the cod didn’t taste like cod at all. Yet another place that substitutes cod with some other cheap fish. Very disappointed.

We have been to eat in several times,lovely friendly staff and food is fantastic. During lockdown we thought we would try and order delivery. Not disappointed ! Food came quickly in cardboard boxes and was piping hot ( my pet hate is lukewarm food) Food was delicious so good we have ordered 3 times in past2 weeks! Cannot praise it enough and have recommended to everyone I know.

Terrible place, avoid it!, no customer service. I purchased a small portion of chips, and the guy says I can't eat in the restaurant section, and only at the entrance, sitting on the sofa. Absolutely ridiculous! No manager around to speak to. Chips were disgusting. I won't be back. This place should not exist!

Best fish and chips in town. Prices are reasonable and you can eat in as well as take away. Highly recommend.

OK fish and chips. They used to be exceptional because they cooked fresh to order and never used the food warmers to store fish. Really was worth the wait for freshly fried fish. But lately they use the warmers, to serve pre-cooked fish, and the last cod I had was a bit dry. So now the food is still good but not the best - just like most other chippys, really. Oh, and they don't do scampi.

One star is being generous. I wish there was an option for 0. I ordered online via Just eat as the store doesn’t take card. I paid for delivery but accidentally put the wrong address, long story short the delivery turned up at the wrong address and the driver decided to wait 8 minutes before calling me, he then refuses to drive 4 minutes down the road to bring it to me. I call and speak with the manager and he says he will get the driver to bring it but I have to pay £5 More! Having already paid online he was now holding my food hostage, but kindly offered for me to go out and pick up the food! For The Green Man there is no such thing called customer service.

I very much enjoyed the food here. There are a fair few fish and chips shops in Edgware but this did have a better taste than most. The service was good as we went as a group, all the food was brought out at a good time and everyone left satisfied. Also wanting a nap after eating 😂

Ordered food via just eat purely because of the reviews on Google. I'm not disappointed at all! Food arrived on time and when I say it was hot.... It was piping hot! ( Thank you delivery man ) You can tell they take pride in their food, everything we ordered was so fresh. Packaging is spot on, Kept the food crispy and not soggy. Portion size was big.

The fish and chips are ALWAYS made fresh thus the usual wait for 15-20 minutes. The place is always sparkling clean and the service is excellent. The price is very fair as well all things considered. I have been visiting them for at least the last 4-5 years.

I miss this chip shop. Used to get food delivered by them. It always arrived hot, and was plentiful and tasty. Thick pieces of fish, battered well. Onion rings were good. Table service is good too.

This was my third visit and as ever the fish was excellent, chips exactly as I like them and grilled fish an alternative. The bargain for us is that we were three aging friends and they do a really cheap lunch deal aimed at that age group. Any what they called a small portion was filling as well as delicious.
