My dad, a pensioner brought home some chips and they were awful. Could taste old oil and they were all dried up. Looks like they gave him leftovers at 1pm in the afternoon. I would be embarrassed to sell chips like this to any customer. Disgraceful.

I've never eaten in the restaurant behind the takeaway area at the front..although that is nicely decorated, but has no windows or views of the outside. I collect weekly for a friend who loves his fish & chips..he is housebound and suffers from advanced dementia..always first class Fish & Chips here, cooked by 'Head Chef' Bobby, who is very skilled at his role ...and friendly..You won't get better takeaway anywhere for miles..try it and see.

I’ve been coming here for over 10 years and will continue as long as I live round here. A tip for all those getting chips: if possible, get the chips open in a cone rather than wrapped up as it makes them so much crispier when it comes time to eat.

Rang up to politely check if the restaurant was still open (says 10pm) and they were so rude - basically put the phone down on me. Ok!

Bland food and rude staff. Went for takeaway and the staff member behind the counter was rude, on his phone and just generally terrible customer service. Once home the food was tasteless and oily. We threw over half away.

As title, you will be hard pressed to find a better takeaway for fish & chips , anywhere in the London Area. I have a friend of over 55 years, unfortunately suffering from dementia, who loves his fish & chips.. a smile on his face when I visit weekly to his & his wife’s home nearby, as his smile lights up when I arrive with his lunch from ‘Friends’, is worth a million £££’s! This is also a lovely restaurant behind the frontage of a fish & chip outlet.. I’ve not had the opportunity to dine in the Restaurant.. seating at a guess around 40.. cozy & tastefully decorated.. ideal for a date with the partner if your choice for a great night out. I must mention the Head Chef and sole Chef in reality, Bobby who is absolutely brilliant.. never tasted fish & chips like this man cooks. He is also very adept at chatting to the clients… is good fun, entertains with clients, polite and a very essential part of this business. I really hope the owners appreciate and reward this Chef for his long hours and commitment to this super business.

I really liked this place, beautiful background music, quiet with a very cordial and friendly service. The fish is fresh and the perfect amount I would do it again without a doubt and I recommend it for couples, families or a group of friends.

Excellent, cod was large and perfectly cooked and so we're the chips. Best fish and chip I have had well worth the trip.

Just went in and ordered fish and chips. £10 (large) and I ordered 2 for £20. He even said £20 as he charged my card, gave no receipt. Got home and realised I’d been charged £25. Called back and he was incredibly rude and suddenly decided it was £25 as £12.50 each. I won’t be going there again! Awful service! Thieves- ask for a receipt and make sure you can see how much you’re being charged or better still, stay away from them!

Nice big portions of cod for £9 (always freshly fried, expect a 10 minute wait) and absolutely huge portions of chips for £2. Very good.

Passing by on the way home we decided tp get take away fish and chips. For a long time haven’t eat fish and chips and was very happily looking forward to it. The chips were good but unfortunately the fish was not. Smell and taste of ammonia of fish in front of me indicates that fish is decomposing! Bone Appetite! Never again

We have loved the take away fish and chips here for years. However, today was an exception and the food not great. The fish was fine but the batter was not crisp and the chips were stale and tasted of gone off oil, and not very hot. Will not be going there for fish and chips again.

Honestly cannot fault this place! This fish and chips are INCREDIBLE! My family has ordered from here twice in the last month and both times has been consistently amazing. The fish is so fresh, the crispiest batter (not soggy or greasy) and the chips are delicious, again not soggy and perfectly crisp. The service just makes it even more better. So glad to have found an amazing takeaway service, we feel like we’re on the coast every time we eat from this place!!

Our 1st choice locally for good fish and chips. Very busy this eve: queue of 8 outside in the vold wind at 7pm :-(

I organised a surprise party at Friends. The food was excellent and received compliments from all the guests. No complaints at all! The owners were really kind and helpful in helping make this happen. They organised decorating everything. The room looked great. Despite the numbers they served everyone efficiently and with charm. A really superb meal and a great venue. Also the cost was fair. Well done!!

Overpriced and overcooked. Spent £22 on 1 x Cod & Chips and 1 x Rock & Chips. If the food was half decent, you wouldn’t mind. Really dry batter and overcooked fish. Chips are the only thing good about it.

We were 6 people in the restaurant we had 2 grilled fish and rest was in matzo meal , fish was melted in the mouths very fresh very well cooked the portions are very huge even I couldn’t fish all my fish and I took it to home for next day ,everything was perfect restaurant was very clean toilet very clean owner very friendly staff very helpful and welcoming we really enjoyed too much we will back again .

I was nice to have a chippy around the corner again. We went on a Friday evening and the staff although inexperienced, were very attentive, the food was nice and plentifulI, i always feel a bit decadent eating fish and chips with a nice table cloths and napkins! Will be going again soon.

Its recently changed hands and from being a take-away and restaurant its now just a take-away. When it was in two parts I felt the restaurant took priority but now its just a take-away and the ownership has change quality has really gone up. The fish is not swimming in oil like some places. The batter is crispy and the fish is fresh but the chip portions are outstanding. A standard portion would feed three people no trouble and they are good chips as well. It top it all off its value for money as well. 2 x haddock and a good portion of chips is less than £20 Give it a try its well worth it.

I think opposite tara27 she said they are not friendly, I’m sorry but if I eating inside a restaurant I don’t like people from out keep coming to the restaurant for toilet, and also u paid for very high quality of food even price is not very expensive I always have medium chips for £2 but 4 people will share it they are number one in north London . I’m so glad to have a great fish and chips take away and restaurant around us fish always very fresh and melt in your mouths chips is perfectly cooked not greasy at all service is number 1 very quick and friendly owners is very nice and friendly staff very helpful. Always good quality and generous portions

This is a very good fish and chips shop. Service is friendly and quick. The chips are of mixed sizes but good flavour and all eatable. You get a real belly full in a medium portion of chips. Great value for money.

I’m so happy we have friends takeaway and restaurant very fresh fish perfect cooked chips not greasy ,my fish was cod cooked in matzo meals it was absolutely delicious , staff very friendly and very polite very welcome to everyone i recommend 100% to all of my friends and family.

We love this place. My son had fish goujons from the children's menu and it was real pieces of fish, not processed fish fingers. Chips are always first class.

Food is very basic and overpriced! Very unfriendly staff with no empathy for others. Family was involved in a car accident outside the restaurant which they witnessed. Staff wouldn't even allow my young child to use the toilet when they are the only restaurant with facilities and we were stranded waiting over an hour for a taxi.

Friends(!) from Friern Barnet took my wife and I here last night and we had a simple but delicious meal of fried and grilled cod and haddock, with boiled potatoes and chips. Thank goodness we weren't greedy and didn't have a starter as the main meal was totally filling. The service was friendly and efficient. The warm decor was fascinating with scenes of Italian pastoral life set amongst the apparently painted-on symmetrical tiles. A total puzzlement - why on earth isn't this little gem more greatly patronised - it certainly deserves to be.

Brilliant service but my pie was cold

We celebrated a family birthday at FRIENDS last night and everyone in our party enjoyed the meals immensely. The service is good, the owners are very friendly and welcoming, and the food and drinks are excellent. We could not ask for anything else! Also, the area around the table we had booked was decorated with 'Happy Birthday' banners and balloons and after dinner, the lights went out, the music started and the birthday girl was presented with cup cakes for every member of our party. A lovely evening all round.

Me alegro de tener una gran comida para llevar y restaurantes alrededor. Pescado siempre fresco y perfecto preparado esta vez tuve un matzo cod fue personal absolutamente deliciosa comida son muy bienvenidos y gestión es perfecta Ensalada griega muy hermosa que siempre he disfrutado el pescado. Se lo recomiendo a todos mis amigos y familia.

Como otro comentarista aquí, encontramos este en una visita al teatro incógnito a unos 10 minutos a pie. Bueno ver botellas de cerveza importada propiamente en el menú (Keo). Con nuestras bebidas llegó un plato de aceitunas, pimientos y zanahorias. Pedí whitebait y, como mi esposa no quiere un entrante, que llevaba una cesta de pan de pita. Whitebait eran caliente y sabrosa en un recubrimiento tipo de navegación. Una gran plato de salsa tártara fue ofrecido. Entonces mi esposa tenía un lugar a la parrilla mientras tuve rock y patatas fritas. La solla parecía excelente y mi esposa me aseguró que una buena grandes peces y ella no podía terminar las patatas hervidas que venían con él. Mi rock era un buen tamaño pero no enorme porción. El bateador era buena, aunque no la más ligera que he tenido. Las patatas fritas eran preciosas y caliente y fresco y no grasienta. Sin embargo, se podría haber hecho con otros 30 segundos ya que estaban un poco pálido. El servicio era excelente y atento, y sin duda volveremos.

Very strange - I got served by a unfriendly lady whereas other reviewers are saying the staff are friendly. Maybe it is because I am coloured - I dont know. Also the fish was old - the batter was chewy. The chips were ok. Will not visit again.

Reasonable price but nothing special.

So I'm a long term North-Londoner, originally from Muswell Hill and now Friern Barnet. Toffs in Muswell Hill was always a classic, back in the day, with long queues out the door. We also had Two Brothers in Finchley, which was pretty posh and decent. However, I think Friends is at least as good as these luminaries, and a whole lot cheaper!

Hi very body I just want to let you know friends are moved to 225 before it’s use to take away on 223 and resturant at 225 but now friends only at 225 the other shop which next to the resturant are not friends any more I did mistake and went to the other one and didn’t find same quality when I call them they explained to. Me and I find my right fish and chips thank you Nadia to let me know were is my friends good luck we are support your shop

This is my favourite fish takeaway and restaurant, this is not a fair to leave a poor feedback for Friends fish restaurant I’m sure they tried a next door fish and chips shop because it’s used to be belonged to Friends but not any more . I’m clearly telling to all of the customers 223 is not any more belong to Friends fish and chips they are different people . Friends is only no : 225 woodhouse road and also they do both takeaway and restaurant in one shop . They are very friendly very hard working and fish is so fresh and tasty I loved it and I will support them too.

Worst takeaway I've had, I wouldn't go back even if they were giving food away. The chips in particular were very dark and tasted like they've been fried several times or it may be that the oil doesnt get changed.

Second visit and remain very impressed by total experience. Customers treated like family and food freshly prepared. There's a wide choice of fish and the portions are enormous.....we brought half our helping home as impossible to finish having had the delicious homemade taramasalata and hummus beforehand.

We have a lovely dinner and time in the restaurant it was my 35 of my anniversary, absolutely fish was fresh and tasty very highly recommended. Staff was helpful and very friendly as a usual .

I went to the sit down part of this restaurant and was quite impressed with the large portions of fish. I have to say that it is a little pricey but the size of the portions reflect this so I didn't feel like I was being cheated. They also sell souvlaki which is a bonus. I will definitely be going back.

Tonight me and my husband, we went to Friends restaurant I had plaice grilled and my husband had cod fried it was delicious and so tasty and fresh . fish was simply melted , I’m so glad Friends restaurant reopen under new ownership , they are doing very well and I recommend to try it .

I’m so glad my favourite resturant is reopen under new ownership , Starter i had home made fish cake and tarama was absolutely delicious and glass of house wine with my tradition fish and chips , fish was so fresh and tasty ,was perfectly cook as always , service was so kindly and friendly ,value of the price was very good for huge portion . Resturant was so clean and very nice decorated , I’m so happy my local fish Resturant reopen I recommend very highly to go and try it .

The only lyrics nice thing about friends is the waitress that is left on her own to run around ...waited 50mins for my meal ...because the take away is busy apparently,,,slippery slop and frozen fish not for me .

Esta noche fue mi 40 cumpleaños cumpleaños y tenía 20 personas más y mi marido quería darme una sorpresa y él pensó que iba a ser un día normal en el restaurante, pero cuando fuimos no sólo me sorprendió incluso a mi marido porque de lo bonita que era. No tuvimos ningún pastel así en vez sin nosotros diciéndoles que me trajo una tarta a ellos mismos y fue absolutamente la mejor tarta de todos! Están decoradas con globos y todo y todos nos lo pasamos de maravilla. El dinero era en realidad merece la pena porque la comida era magnífica. Porciones grandes perfectamente cocinada. Personal muy amable, creo que soy sin duda alguna volveremos otra vez. Recomiendo 100% a ir y probarlo.

We had a meal in friends restaurant, it was absolutely delicious ,I had grill Dover sole and chips it was very big portions even I didn't finished and half I took it home for next day launch staff was very friendly good value very classic nice decoration the other my friends had a fish in matzo meal was so fantastic, so we all enjoyed and we had a lovely time there I recommend 100% to go and trying.

Tenía para llevar. Brusco, inútil servicio, patatas fritas aceitosas, muy pequeño sirve de peces (incluso a pesar de que pedimos y pagamos grandes). Realmente, realmente decepcionante.

Tuvimos pescado frescos blancos y patatas fritas. No es el más barato pero se paga la calidad. Tan satisfecho este restaurante ha sido tomada y ojalá ellos un éxito para el futuro.
