The Green Man in Cambridge

Not great I’m afraid wrong person to diddle I’m afraid. I had a code that gave a free starter or sweet with each main course. Well apart from that main course I had pork belly. I have eaten in a lot of restaurants. I used to love this place how things change. Dauphinois potatoes was Burnt. No taste to sauce with pork then to top it off they added other things on to our bill. So please check your bill when you go here. Because it was double to what it should have been. And I’m sorry but they knew what we had had. Good job I realised when going back to where we were staying. Hubby paid and said by that was expensive so I said it shouldn’t have been there was only two mains and two drinks. So I looked and they had added other things we hadn’t had . Not happy.

Service by Sarah was really great. She made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. We followed her recommendations and these proved to be perfect for us. The food was very good and both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Food temperature could be improved as my friends food was not hot enough. We also asked for more vegetables but these were provided.

I loved this restaurant, the atmosphere was great, service was friendly and very good not only in restaurant but in bar too. I am currently in Addenbrooks hospital after having brain surgery. It was my birthday and I was allowed to go out for some lunch. Not knowing the area well, this place came up on my search. I am so happy with what I chose. I had a fillet steak which was cooked to perfection, my husbands roast wow it looked amazing, all served with real roast potatoes. Family & friends then joined us in the bar and all staff were very accommodating. Thank you Green Man, you made my birthday one to remember. It is also a dog friendly. Husband paid bill, so no idea on pricing. I believe you cannot put a price on good food & good service.

The food is nice and the atmosphere is relaxed and quiet, however the service is UNBEARINGLY slow. When I went there the first time, first impressions were great - food was delicious and food came at an okay pace however the service was just so slow. I tried a second time to give it another chance yet I was disappointed with how unbelievably slow it was. Across the road is Sole & Duck where you get superb fast and attentive service - potential competition.

We went to celebrate my sister in law 40th birthday. My main was British Half Rotisserie Chicken with Spiced Honey, House Salad (that was nice), Sea Salt & Cracked Black Pepper Squid for entrée (decent) and Home-Baked Valrhona Chocolate Brownie with Americano coffee (brownie was a bit dry). Overall, our party had enjoyed the food, so my rate reflects that. But the service was slow, under par (we only had 1 drink and wanted more but were never asked). We assumed that the waiter was overwhelmed or new to the job. As for the atmosphere, a bit subdued, we must have been the most lively party in the restaurant, so it felt underwhelming as a birthday celebration venue. If you live in the area, it's probably worth a shot. But will not go out of my way to come back.

Lovely pub with a good selection of very tasty dishes! Staff are very friendly and professional, Sarah in particular is great! We keep coming back for a relaxing and enjoyable evening, and especially enjoy the Sunday roasts!

Not bad pub and food was ok. But price for food is sooooo expensive. Not sure i can be bothered to go again, even drinks are very pricey. Shame could be such a good place and a regular pub visit.

Lovely food but could have been slightly hotter. Did not mention it as it was still good. They were also busy as had a large party in. We decided to have 2 starters each. The beef and horseradish croquettes were amazing. Will definitely be back for more of those.

Always are go to place for good food!

Had a lovely experience here yesterday, the food was well priced and delivered by friendly staff. Nothing was too much despite how busy it was. Would definitely reccomend and 100% return.

I went here when I had quite a few hours to wait for my husband to have an operation. When I got there we were made to feel very welcome and my mother and I both enjoyed our meal. While there I realised that my phone only had 15% charge left and was waiting on a call from the hospital. I was leant a charger by a member of the team - that made such a difference to me as I was so worried that my phone would die before I was called.

Michael, our waiter, was very attentive to all our enquiries and very pleasant, Sarah also. Food was very reasonable and the scallops and prawns were cooked wonderfully.

Lovely experience yesterday, came for our belated wedding anniversary meal. Lovely starters, and main. My drink was delicious too. Would come back for that alone. Service good too, and the room was decorated lovely as well. Will happily return again.

We came here for our boxing day meal, unfortunately the potatoes were rock solid, the pigs in blankets came out extremely burnt and we wasn't able to eat them. The meal it self was very disappointing. The service was very slow, despite the restaurant not being busy.

We are HayLee Acoustic duo and performed at Green Man Cambridge on new year’s eve. It was such a pleasure to perform at this amazing venue - it is truly a n elegant, warm and inviting pub with a lovely restaurant and separate bar area, loads of seating and we have to say, amazing staff. Remmi, Jasper and the team made us feel so welcome and looked after us the whole evening. Good experience and car parking.

The menu all be it the Christmas one read very nice but actually it's not great. unfortunately my paté had virtually no taste at all and the cherry chutney overpowered what flavour there was,as for my burger if I hadn't been so hungry I would of left most of it brioche buns are not a good idea with wet toppings ie. The cheese sauce all over the top the "beef" dripping sauce was virtually cold and had almost no beef flavour at all!! My partner used their Web site to book as it suggested and we got there it was pretty much empty the waitresses all seemed like they didn't want to be there which I get being boxing day but still could of been a bit more interactive shall wait till this establishment changes hands before returning real shame as we live no more than a ten minute drive!

My family and I visited for Christmas dinner. Being 30 mins early for our table we were pleased to be seated but were happy to wait either way - did not anticipate to be on our main courses 3 mins after the original booking time. I mentioned that we felt rushed through our service which was amended by asking if we would like to wait for our last course. I understand there is a lot to do on Christmas Day service but if you cannot pace all tables with well timed services don’t accept all the bookings and force courses through… we sat by the kitchen doors and my family members were being watched from within to be cleared. Main courses delivered before all starters were removed from table. Had to ask for cutlery, remind of drinks on order and we had disused wine glasses, cracker litter and side plates on the table for the duration of the meal - table maintenance lacking. A few of the more youthful staff members could have a reminder of professional attire - very short dress inappropriate for work lovely for a social occasion.

£4.55 for a pint of orange juice and soda, you should be ashamed!

I ordered the fish and chips and they were genuinely the worst I've had. They were overcooked and dry. I tried two desserts and they were also disappointing, someone at my table said the pear dessert tasted like "nothing." The place is nicely decorated and Christmassy although it's a bit loud and we couldn't hear everyone at our table. Our server was upbeat and nice to us, but service was a bit slow, I think because they were understaffed. Our waiter was clearly under a lot of pressure but still very buoyant and friendly.

The mains were poor. In particular the pizzas were like cardboard. And most of the food we were served was tepid. On the bright side, the pub was attractive and cosy and the drinks and desserts were lovely. Would we go back? No honestly. They need to sort out their food.

Lovely decor, cosy log burner, great sevice, and delicious food. What more could you ask for? We sat in the restaurant and had a fab evening.

Just had a staff Xmas do and it was amazing. Staff are friendly and the whole night was just great. The setting was perfect.

Sarah’s service was absolutely brilliant tonight, she couldn’t do enough for us and there wasn’t an empty glass all night. The food was amazing as well, everything came quickly and hot. The waiting staff did well to make sure everyone got what they had ordered. Very enjoyable evening!

Nice Environment It's a nice and quiet place for a meal. The menu was similar to Plough of Horningsea. Similar prices too. The burger was a bit dry and hard and slightly burnt. The burger bun was not brioche bun. But still, the pulled beef inside tasted nice. Everything was hot. Glad that the battered fish had basic seasoning. To me it's very important. Imagine battered fish without any basic seasoning, I will think that the chef is lazy and irresponsible. The portions were small in terms of its price generally. The quantity of chips was the smallest among all of the Cambridge pubs. Not a bad idea if you are determined to eat healthier but fail to quit chips. The staff were nice and helpful. No service charge in the bar area.

Came here for a work Christmas dinner! Both the food and service was fabulous! Sarah, our host, was prompt, professional and friendly. The food was very quick and tasted great.

Waited far too long for our food to be served, when it was over an hour snd 20 mins, waiter said “you will have to wait “luv” we have a party in! We left!

All staff were extremely friendly - especially Sara who went above and beyond. (Saving me from choosing a meal that would be too spicy for me). Even though the restaurant was very busy, the food came relatively quickly. I can’t think of anything negative.. my husband and I both enjoyed our meal and the experience.

Stevie, The Manager was exceptional and 5 stars for his hospitality. We come here always, Gracie has served us as well as Sarah. Always smiling and polite. This place is our go to, whether as a couple or as a family, birthdays (Sarah was magnificent in adding a candle to our Sons Birthday and had everyone joining in the Birthday song. Mother’s Day again Gracie & Sarah served us.. always trying to please and check backs. Stevie is always extremely knowledgeable with the Menu! Happy Chappy and you can see his staff work well for him a fantastic work team Spirit. We’ve been coming here for well over a Year and always mean to write a review. So as I finish my glass of Sauvignon….. Thank you to all the staff at The Green Man at Trumpington….. Fabulous!

Dry very good, Sarah was outstanding

The service was exceptional - the food was of a high standard (compliments to the chef) and well presented - overall the experience was excellent - I hosted a party with a buffet laid on by the staff. Despite being a busy time of day the staff were very attentive and catered well for us all. I will definitely return!

I had £22 burgher and come out wrong from the kitchen. Not full and missing ingredients.I asked 3 times to the waiter if was the right one. After telling them what was missing all I had was a "Sorry about that". Maybe £20 is not much for them. Next time with my mates I go somewhere else. Thank you.

The service was very good and my gluten free dietary requirements were accommodated. Sarah was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I took a star down because since my first visit, I returned but I wasn't able to order anything from the menu because the server said they couldn't guarantee no cross contamination.

The manager who seated us was very polite he asked if we would like to order drinks. The server was very quick to take our order and the food came out in a timely manner.

Food was just incredible, had a 3 course meal and did not disappoint, staff were friendly and welcoming, very attentive and helpful with dietary requirements, atmosphere was beautiful very well done all round

Got a good ignoring when we first arrived. A nod and a "someone will be with you soon" would have shown our presence had been noted. Subsequently staff were very attentive providing good service. Good portions, well cooked and presented, promptly served. Good value.

I actually resented paying £45 for a mediocre plant burger, a forgotten salad chucked in a tin and a glass of ok wine. Service was great and the pub had a good, cozy vibe but I think those prices just ride out from Cambridge, they certainly don't reflect good food. At least have the decency to put the pickles inside your cardboard burgers (this comes from a man who makes his own veggie burgers once a month).

The best served roast I've had in Cambridge, and the deserts at the end were incredible. Gracie was excellent at looking after us and the ambience in the pub was super cosy. Well worth it!

As family of 6, ordered wine and beers. Was asked who beers were for? Newly 18 yr old grandson was asked for ID which he didn’t have (only MPW ID). Waitress told my daughter, she could not have beer if she was to let ‘boy’ have some. Waitress dictated ‘Challenge’ rights at length by rote. I said we had not encountered that before. She then moved to stand next to 18 yr old, in front of his younger cousin in a silent restaurant, to repeat her right to challenge customers, insensitively embarrassing him. I repeated that was fine. She continued, as we discussed the order. Unnecessarily confrontational. Pizza was good, sides minimal, other food as expected but atmosphere in restaurant where only 2 tables were filled was more school like. Deterred from returning on service alone.

Great menu and drinks choice. Visited midweek at 8.30pm, very warm welcome. Meal (pie & mash) came out in 10 minutes, not hot, no salt & pepper at the table and no offer from the server for condiments, server did not return to table to see if everything was ok. Shame - could easily have been 5/5

Mixed feelings about this pub. Booked Sunday lunch and asked for quiet table but was given a table right near the entrance. Starters and deserts were good but felt a little pricey. Vegetarian Sunday roast - the vegetarian wellington was a bit over done. Would come back and give it another go if visiting Cambridge

Nice gastro pub which we found on way Into Cambridge on a day visit, seemed very nice and food was well presented, steak was overcooked for the requested medium, but beef dripping sauce was lovely, I would say they seems to have a mad rush for a monday lunch time, and maybe not the staff to keep on top. Overall would recommend a visit I would image you could have a different experiences depending on date and time.

Absolutely love this little pub. Never fails to impress and always my go to whenever eating out. However I’d like to say a very big thank you to for Sarah who always goes above and beyond for her customers. I recently visited to share with friends I was expecting a baby. From start to finish Sarah was absolutely amazing. Her and her lovely colleague made me my favourite cocktail (minus the alcohol of course) despite it not being on the menu so as not to raise suspicions. And she also went to the effort of secretly videoing the moment for me to remember the special occasion. Just the most lovely lady and always so welcoming! Thanks again Sarah for the brilliant service and making this occasion so memorable. It’s always a pleasure to be served by you.

We have visited The Green Man on several occasions and, today, once again both the food and the service were excellent. Remi looked after our table and was brilliant even giving excellent advice on wines and cocktails. Many thanks to everyone at the Green Man for making this a lovely afternoon

Meal was excellent. Sarah is brilliant as always. She brightens our week abs a very good communicater. I had the Hake special as did my friend and it was lovely.

My favourite pub in Trumpington! Food was so good and the staff were very friendly. It’s very popular in the weekends so make sure you book your place ahead of time. The cocktails are so amazing too! Some times the waiting time for food might be a bit long but it all worth it!

Don’t listen to me - try it - you won’t be disappointed. However, if you can swing it so Sarah looks after you - bit like the icing on the cake.

Visited on a Saturday night & the overall experience was awful. We had seen great reviews on trip advisor so we thought we had found a gem. The food was awfully dry and had NO flavour. The prawns tasted as if they had been sitting out for a hour, the steak came out and had no flavour. Worst £100 spent ever. Will not be returning!
