Caffe Nero in Cambridge

It's caffè nero. You know what to expect in the good and bad. Good location and good opening timing.

I was looking for a cafe that's open late to meet up with my friend who lives there during my visit to Cambridge, and we agreed to go there. The location is perfect, across from the train station which is ideal since I have to take the train back to London. It was very convenient. The coffee was good and the service was quick.

Painfully slow service and cold coffee when you do finally get it. Captive first-time customers in the form of tourists coming by train. Yuck.🤢

I thought it was an attractive place to have a quick espresso and a snack. After being to the toilet, I can not go back ever. I only can hope the kitchen is kept better attention to 😑

Very glum young female trainee barista this afternoon - 21.09.24; she appeared to not want to be there, and that serving customers was a huge inconvenience, rather than a job for which she is being paid.

Coffee was cold and rather unpleasant. The place was dirty, tables were only cleared as we were leaving. Toilets were not clean (not filthy but need better attention and more thorough cleaning than what they had - it’s not a public toilet!)

It's a lovely Nero with loads of space, good service, and very quick!

Best Café Nero in town, spacious and cozy. Dog friendly and nice seating area outside. My favourite place for breakfast. Shout out to the baristas in there as well! Always a pleasure to go here. Can be busy on weekends.

A good sized Caffe Neros with both indoor & outdoor seating that is is a prime location opposite Cambridge railway station who serve various sandwiches & panini's, soups & hot pastries as well as a selection of delicious looking cakes & biscuits that are perfect to go with one of their many hot or cold beverages that are available. After getting off the train I think I arrived at one of their busiest times but with ample staff behind the counter the queue rapidly disappeared, I ordered a large mocha from the polite barista but unfortunately after finding a seat then taking a sip, my drink was well made but barely warm forcing me to drink it in a hurry which was disappointing.

Coffee is served so full, to the edge. Also it is very weak.

The service has definitely improved. Roughly one year it was sooooooo slow, a bit of a spectacle - like in those sketches with animated sloths/a movement a minute/simply a different time zone? Some people had a good laugh, others left frustrated, because they had a train to catch. Now it is different - overall really quick and efficient - congratulations! Unfortunately, the quality has significantly declined, especially for products like the milk shakes. "Milk" shake is actually the wrong term, because there are definitely more smashed ice cubes in the shake than milk - I saw it today since they mixed it right in front of me, but you can of course also taste it. It's basically ice cold water with a bit of milk and then the flavour/syrup you choose - chocolate, vanilla..., and that's certainly not worth £4. By the way, it doesn't have to be like that. Over the weekend, I was in a café Nero in London, and the shakes there were really good. Try 70% milk - 30% water (rather than 70% water - 30% milk), and you might actually get a milkshake! And it might taste really well too! - Yes, water is cheaper than milk and you want to maximise your profits, but... think of your reputation, which translates into profit. 😄

Good space in perfect location opposite train station. Nice people making both Little and Large (see picture) coffees; expert, beautiful cortado if you are a purist who prefers that to #vanillamochachocicewhatevafrappelattecino even in the summer ☕😎☺️

Got ignored by the staff who were serving customers coming after me.

It’s dirty. That Flat White I ordered was clearly a Cuppachino. Reminder to self. Don't order a Flat White outside of London more specifically at a chain.

Big Caffè Nero with lots of seatings. Their coffee and food are usually good among other coffee chains.

Charles was bubble and happy to help, very helpful with my Gluten intolerance about the Oat milk and very kind and warm. Nat was so sweet, she dealt with a awful customer complaint about not getting a free coffee, she was calm and dealt with it beautifully. Both beautiful customer service, made me smile this morning! Thank you Charles and Nat!

It's a great place to sit down, grab a cup of coffee and just spend hours working away on your laptop. For the prices (and students discounts), the coffee they serve is standard.

Perplexingly slow to serve customers, the queue inches along at a glacial pace.

Not the place to go if you are waiting for a train and in a rush. Service is very very slow. Quite often all seats are taken inside and if you sit out you'll get smoked out. However, coffee is good. Do click and collect if you don't plan on sitting in, it's a lot quicker.

My friend and I went in around 6pm one evening hoping to grab a drink before our next train, there was one person ahead of us and three members of staff doing what seemed to be non-important tasks. We had to wait 14 minutes to get served and even then the staff member had to ask twice what our order was. Really shocking service and won’t be getting my coffee from this store ever again.

Again, like all coffee shops - rude male serving, with hideous tattoo, taking my order with his back turned to me, whilst getting someone else’s’ order. Dire service and extremely rude people who work in that place. My days of going in coffee shops, since 2011, are over. I will just buy a cold drink from Sainsbury’s or somewhere else.

Your regular local Nero. It's up to standard but not exactly special. They can get full at peak hours though, presumably because of the convenience of being at Station Square. Really convenient place to meet up with people over a coffee though

Had the best Cinnamon Swirl! The employees are extremely nice and also their Frappe Latte is amazing. Located right in front of Cambridge train station.

Like all Cafe Nero’s, the coffee is lackluster, and this particular location is quite dirty and unkept. Floor is filthy, seats are very old and sink in and have never been cleaned, and the tables are not bussed by staff, even during peak hours. Always empty cups and trash everywhere - you have to clean up someone else’s mess yourself, and there isn’t even a place to return it. The single bathroom is also quite dirty.

I rarely review these chains but on this occasion it was necessary. The place was busy but one of the Baristas was rude, impatient and rolled his eyes when I asked him to top up the water in my half filled tea mug lol. No napkins provided and the spoon I was given for my yoghurt was dirty. I also noticed that the whole place was pretty filthy. The floors, skirting boards and walls hadn’t seen a cleaning product in a while and the armchairs were disgusting. The legs of the tables were covered in dust and other detritus. Disappointing.

Coffee and food was nice. But bathroom was disgusting. I was queuing outside the guy that came put was a nero employee with all his cleaning stuff. He had definitely not cleaned a thing. Urine everywhere. Smell nearly had me throw up

Usually pretty good here before a train journey but today I paid £4.25 for a large coconut latte, when I opened the top, you can see how full it was. Basically all foam.

The company makes them serve some sweets from the day before. I could clearly tell the cake was not fresh.. The service at the counter is good and quick however the floor and the table we were seating on were filthy...

One toilet for a cafe this large is unreasonable.

After a long wait, the one person working there takes a pause and then tells me they've got no decaf coffee. No apology. I didn't believe him for a moment.

The staff could be more respectful towards customers, eg at least say sorry when charged more money, even if it’s a tiny amount.

Shockingly slow service on a Wednesday morning

Coffee was burnt and had a bitter taste.

Shout out to the lovely person who served me my complimentary decaf coffee to go in exchange for a full loyalty card - made my day :)

Their decaf coffee is dire. The muffins are stodgy, not light and fluffy. And it's cold in here. Noisy too. Not the best coffee shop experience at all. Did I mention the cobwebs ?

Food came not packed well, and lost some of its contents

Usually I don’t have a problem here but when confirming that I will be sitting in I expect to be served with proper cups. Just because I’m wearing corporate work wear doesn’t mean I want a paper takeaway cup. Disappointing. At least the drinks were good.

Nice cafe chain. Orange juice is good. It is real juice.

Busy store , with great service

I felt being disrespected, I never thought ordering coffee would be so difficult like this in my life. The staff purposely talked to me quietly and asked me some same questions many times like I have hearing or English listening problem! I told him please don't put too much coffee in my drink but he kept asking me if I want strong coffee or whatever the other option is (he talked so quietly I barely heard anything). I don't come from the UK but I think my English is good enough to communicate and ORDER COFFEE, for one moment I really thought I have to learn English again but actually the staff was just being rude to me. I brought my own cup to buy coffee here. I gave my cup to him when ordering the drink. He took my cup, left it at the cash desk and came back to me with the drink in a normal plastic cup of Nero. I had to remind him again to put the drinks in my cup!

Thought I would get iced milkshake. Disappointed that there was no fresh fruit in September for it despite £4.50 price tag. Made with instant powder. Not worth it.

Poor service, one member of staff serving and very slow. They were plesent but there was no sense of urgency. While queuing for 10 mins 3 customers left as the service was so slow

We visited on Wednesday around 12pm and it wasn't too busy at the time so the wait time was ok. The staff there were so lovely and friendly, by far the best I have experienced at Caffè Nero (London ones are not as nice, too rushed). A special shoutout to the guy who served me, didn't get his name but he was a young blonde guy and he was very nice :) would definitely visit again when I next go to Cambridge! -Iced latte -Caramel and coconut iced latte (my fav summer drink!)

The best coffee of all the chains. BUT this branch hopeless! Three times in the last month I have walked in and then walked out. 15 plus people in queue!!! Not enough staff. I reluctantly walked down the road to Costa. No queue!!

Phenomenal Latte! Loved the experience of getting right off the train and being able to enjoy a great latte. Fantastic coffee and a great atmosphere. Big enough to sit and work or meet up with other people.

Queued for well over 10 minutes for a bottle of water since 1 employee was left to manage taking orders as well as preparing them while 3 others are busy ‘cleaning up’ a whole hour before closing as well as chit chatting. The place was very quiet and had they supported their colleagues people would’ve gotten out of their way sooner.

Impolite, brainless and slow staff, they didn't want or they didn't know how to use my Nectar coffee cupon.

I still give five stars because I feel for the people working there, they are doing Gods work honestly. Just don’t get how 3 or 4 staff can handle queues of 30-50 people. The staff look shattered sometimes, but still friendly. Defo needs more staff bit cheapskate of cafe Nero to not put more workers. Just prepare for half hour waits and a nice wiggly long line queueing 🤣

A coffee shop by the station should be running more efficiently than that. Be prepared to queue for 15 minutes or more just for a coffee. As a suggestion for the shop, don’t have all staff members look after a single customer. That’s extremely unefficient. And maybe add a counter for people who just want a coffee, yes, a coffee, not a whipped-cream-salted-caramel-cold-brew-ice-cubed-smoothie-cacao-powder-shake. Thank you.

Lovely place. Obviously in a busy area so there may be a small wait in service but that service is prompt and lovely.

I ordered vegetarian Brie, but got bacon instead. How did you manage that? Had to put in compost. What a waste. SO disappointing.

The service is VERY slow and the tables are often taken by people who go there to work, basically buy a coffee and have a workdesk for free. Some people sit there for hours on virtual meetings and give you funny looks if you show annoyance with their "work noise". It is very unpleasant and cheap behaviour. This, I suspect, has to do with not enough staff working and able to manage the flow of customers or clean the debris from tables rather than them being careless. I think it lacks good management.

I love Cafe Nero however on our last visit they were short of staff. The bins were overflowing, no proper cups only paper, tables hadn't been cleared etc. Not a good experience.

Located just outside Cambridge railway station this is a typical busy Caffe Nero, with sandwiches, cakes and hot and cold drinks. It is busy so the tables can be fully occupied but the staff are helpful and do their best to keep things clean and tidy.

Lovely atmosphere but not warm enough most of the time

Solid coffee and really competent Batistas. There was one young lady in front of me, dressed in the 90s like she was in The Craft. When it came to her time to order she requested "The Usual". The chap serving clearly had no idea who she was or what she wanted but saved us all from witnessing a rather cringe worthy exchange by taking the hit and pretending he'd forgotten, and asked if she would be kind enough to remind him. Legendary service move.

This is the slowest service I’ve ever experienced. I don’t usually bother to write reviews but this was truly a terrible experience and service. A queue of 3 people waiting for 3 baristas shouldn’t take 15-20 minutes

Plenty of seating, lots of choice of hot drinks and food. Service was quite slow and it was lacking atmosphere at the time I visited.

I find all they've produced to be excellent, and their coffee is proper!

I visited at 2pm on a Monday and it was very very busy and I was lucky to find a table. Drinks took a while to be made. A good place to chill out by the station if you need to kill some time.

Poor service, low-skilled staff.

Toilets were really dirty, service was poor, tables were not cleared and hot chocolate was not good either!

Convenient café be the station, good meeting point, seating outside, gets busy.

The food and drinks here are great and not too pricey. It does get very busy though and sometimes the queue is nearly out of the door which puts me off bothering at peak times

Delivered early, very nice lunch and coffee.

My girlfriend got a bottle of water and a chai latte which came to £5.35 in total. We were on our way to the airport, so, decided to get rid of whatever change we had. I handed your staff two £2 coins, a pound coin and a 50p coin... Instead of looking at his hands he kept saying £5.35, repeatedly... On the 3rd occasion he very loudly said FIVE THIRTY FIVE as if I didn't hand him enough money... Its the guy without the glasses who served us around 4pm on a Sunday ... I didn't appreciate the tone and when he did realise he was the one who made the mistake, he didn't even apologise. Train your staff to behave professionally!

Decent station cafe - as with all Caffè Neros, the coffee is nice, some of the cakes etc are good, but the pastries are stale and old and the sandwiches/paninis are depressingly flavourless. If you want a coffee, a snack to go, or you are looking for a place to work by the station - great. If you want actual food, look elsewhere.

Went in line and just as soon as I got close to the front, I had to walk out. Why? Cause the cups on top of the machine was covered in flys! Please add a bug zapper or take the cups away cause I'm sure no one wants to get sick

I love Caffè Nero and their coffee. I also worked in Caffè Nero 5 years ago and I expected same quality everywhere if I am in UK or Poland or Cyprus. Unfortunately Cambridge train station Nero is awful they are super slow however they 4 people their. My order is always wrong. I can't drink normal milk and I usually order oat milk already 4x times I had normal milk which cause me bad stomach ache. If I didn't rush to office I would take it back. I also ordered a few times white americano for my boyfriend and there is no milk however I repeat it 3 times nearly all the time. My experience is always awful there I visit other Caffè Nero stores and they are more welcoming and my order is correct. Specifically one close to Grafton shopping centre they are amazing and I love coming their store. :)

This place substitutes items without asking and doesn't refund you the difference.

Server was rushing, didn't receive the order properly, s delivered wrong item but corrected by another team member and when I wanted to scan my loyalty card same rushing server said it's too late I should have told before...

Quick service, professional, and amazing flat whites. Very happy — it was extremely busy but they dealt with everyone very efficiently and managed to even interact with most of the customers :D
