Such a relaxing traditional pub , warm and inviting . Our table was a little late and we were kindly offered a free drink while we waited . The atmosphere was so nice it didn’t matter to us at all . The food is always 10/10 and the service is exceptional . Really friendly , family run . Exceptional on all counts .

What a great lunch in a lovely atmosphere at a place we'll probably never visit again! Not because it wasn't a top experience but because it was our chosen break stop midway from home to the Norfolk coast and it's unlikely we'll be 'that way' again. Wide choice of food including an excellent roast lamb, lincolnshire sausages to die for and freshly-made thin & juicy pizzas. The staff were so friendly, efficient & attentive and the food came quickly - but not too quickly! We would encourage you to book in advance as we did as the place was very busy and, if you are the proud owners of Albus the cockapoo or his like, they will happily cater for him in the front bar area.

Great hospitality for our driving group lunch. They catered for 11 of us without pre-ordering and service was really efficient. They have a tremendously comprehensive and varied menu with all the meals reasonably priced for a pub these days. We had a great time, if somewhat noisy, and the service and quality of the food was spot on, so hats off to the staff and chefs. Would I recommend the pub; absolutely.

This is a lovely friendly pub with great food. It's a charming building with a spacious garden. The staff could not have been more welcoming or more helpful. The quality of the food was first rate, with a strong menu. I had a perfectly cooked venison liver with bacon, mash and a selection of vegetables so fresh they could only have been picked that day. This was served with a rich gravy and was absolutely delicious. Real local food! I strongly reccomend this place, it's well worth a visit.

Visiting the area to view a couple of prospective properties to move to and dropped into the pub for lunch. Staff were friendly and efficient, menu was varied and a good range of beers. Food was excellent value for money, and all in all we had a lovely experience. If we do move to the area this will be our local and ticks another 'positive' box.

A stunningly beautiful old cottage pub with fantastic food, we will definitely be back again.

A great family experience. We booked a table to eat here, whilst staying at a nearby camp site. The pub has a separate dining area from the main bar and offers a wide selection on the standard menu and also a daily specials board. The food was piping hot and portions generous. The staff are friendly and professional. We will be back.!

Met here for a family lunch today after looking for somewhere convenient we could meet and reading previous reviews. Cosy dining area, very nice choice of food, generous portions which even defeated one of the party who doesn't often leave anything on the plate. Children's menu good too. Lovely evening for a group of 10 of us and some dogs. Service was super fast, lovely surroundings on the decking and food was all, consistently lovely. Delicious reports all round including our vegetarian buddies. The homemade cheesecake was a big hit for puds.

We were celebrating a recent promotion for me and decided to visit The Green Man, having visited several times before. I decided to try the Cod and Chips, the Chips were amazing, however the Cod was not. I expected home made with crisp batter. Unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. Hubby had the threesome burger, he was expecting bbq sauce on the pork, after being informed this is how it would come, no bbq sauce. Service was OK, as was the draft beer.

Recently had an afternoon tea for 2 that had been gifted us via a voucher. Somewhat underwhelmed by the whole experience. It started by us being offered tea or coffee before being seated in the downstairs room along with a noisier party with children, which didn't enhance the experience & the food itself, whilst plentiful, was an odd mixture of savoury & sweet offerings. The sandwiches, which in my view are the main part of this event, we're uninspiring & a mix of being either soggy or dried out. The addition of a large bone in the coronation chicken, not helping. Of the sweet mixture items, some but not all had been "home prepared". The scones in particular were of standard supermarket variety & not worthy of the offering. We feigned being full & unable to eat the whole array & took some of which we left, away with us. Back to the drinks. My partner opted for tea & was eventually served a cup of, not even a pot. I requested water was duly given a glassfull straight out of the tap. Nothing like protecting the mark up! Not, in my opinion, their best product.

My Wife Linda and I had our very first visit to The Green Man today after recommendation's from a Family member. The food, service and atmosphere was excellent. Thank you to the Landlord Phil for getting us a table at short notice and for making us feel so welcome we will definitely be going back in the near future.

Highly recommended by TripAdvisor users so we gave it a try. What a treat we had on Friday evening in this busy local village pub. Despite a large party filling the inside space staff offered us option to use the nicely created outside eating area which worked well on this very nice evening. Staff were attentive and our food came swiftly. Cannot fault anything, the welcome the staff the food or the beer! Thank you all previous reviewers and TripAdvisor. We had great expectations of this pub, we had been told it was very good. Their socials are very good, they’ve just won a Camra village pub award, however we were somewhat disappointed with our meals. Nothing bad just not as exceptional as we expected. Price point was high enough to expect at least a small salad with scampi and chips, but no just peas were served. Burger and chips were slightly dry. Sausage and mash came in a ridiculous Yorkshire pudding. Nothing bad, just not as fantastic as we expected. To be fair, the beer was quite good.

Food okay. No cutlery for five minutes after food arrived no condiments either. Didn’t clear away the plates after the meal nobody asked if we wanted sweets or even if we was alright quite expensive for the service we got. So that’s of our list. Would not recommend

Went to this pub after visiting my father who recently moved to the village. Came here for late lunch and took a chance of getting a table for 2 which we didn't book. We was accepted and placed to out table with a warm and friendly welcome. Great wide selection of food and plenty of specials on the board and a.fish menu as well. The food was hot and fresh and full of flavour and enjoyed every bite in every course was absolutely superb. Lovely presentation on the plates and would definitely return. My daughter who's 9 enjoyed her meal as well and was well impressed with her food and found the menu funny and even ordered it the way it says " I'm not hungry " overall I think it was at good value with fantastic service and look forward to returning again in the near future.

Brilliant village pub and restaurant great staff and lovely atmosphere.. we had seen the ad for the 'fish' event in the local lincs magazine so booked for the Saturday lunchtime. I opted for the swordfish with beetroot salad and crushed new potatoes and my wife chose the monkfish and wild boar stew both dishes were really well presented and delicious ..as it was a birthday celebration we pushed the boat out with puds, the chocolate brownie with madagascan vanilla ice cream and creme brule were both absolutely delicious.. great food and lovely location ..give it a try but I'd advise booking as this is a very popular place.. 👍😋

Excellent food. I had breast of duck which was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The Ropsley mess was delicious. The food came quickly and was well presented. Very good service. Would highly recommend.

Gorgeous little pub in a lovely village in Lincolnshire. The menu choices were ok, not huge choice, but the portions huge. I had a Mucky Duck burger which was delicious. Came with onion rings and warm non descriptive coleslaw which wasn’t great, chips which were lovely. A very expensive meal for what it was and I thought a bit over cooked. The kids meals were very overcooked to looking nearly burnt but they enjoyed it. All in all a great place to go but expensive and you can find better locally.

Mixed review. Had been told it was a great pub with great food so maybe expectations were high. Firstly my crème brûlée was the best I’ve ever tasted! However my curry was good but a little on the chilly side. My husband’s pie he said was delicious and the portions were extremely large! My daughter didn’t like her chicken burger but maybe that’s just her taste and wrong menu choice. However the restaurant was quite cold. The heating wasn’t on and perhaps i should have worn more clothes but I was offered a little radiator by my side. The loos were also cold and could do with a paint. Overall the place did look like a deep clean and spruce up was needed but the staff were friendly and the food good. Would we go back? Some of the party definitely would and others wouldn’t so as I said, mixed reviews overall a bit disappointed from what I’d heard before the visit.

Fantastic award winning village pub, Phil and Leanne (the owners) are a great couple we're so lucky to have them and their pub in our village. The food, service you name it staff are all amazing. The Green Man is a great spot for value for money. As you can see in the images provided, there is definitely no shortage on the portion sizes. The atmosphere is fantastic. It's a great cosy pub, and the staff are lovely. I've been twice recently, and they're always super busy (appearing fully booked out). This doesn't drastically affect the service, although it was a long wait. I think we were booked in around 19:30pm, and didn't leave until nearly 22:00 as we were waiting a good 45/60 minutes for the food. I appreciate though, this was just before the Christmas period, and we were informed service might be a little slow. The only downside is there is no parking. It's all on street parking, and i imagine this disrupts the residents nearby. The bar is super small (maybe 2 tables, maximum), and so it can get quite crammed if they're busy. With this being said though, it's not that long of a wait and therefore, it doesn't effect it much. It's definitely more of a food restaurant as opposed to a local pub though, which is good for us foodies! For a starter, we enjoyed the baked camembert. "Baked Camembert Dipping Board (v) £14.95. With crostini, carrot, cucumber sticks, apple wedges & a red onion chutney." This starter took about 45 minutes to arrive. Unfortunately, it didn't actually come with any carrot sticks or apple wedges. It was just peppers, celery, and cucumber, with the bread. This was all super fresh, but i do believe we should've been informed of the change. Anyway, the bread that came was super soft. It had a buttery flavour, and complimented the cheese perfectly. The cheese was baked to perfection, and didn't cool quickly. If you don't know, this is super important with camembert to get the full effects of a melted cheese. The salad was lightly dressed in a balsamic sort of sauce, which was also lovely. The chutney was standard, but to a great quality. Overall for the starter, this reaches a 9 out of 10, losing a point for no carrot or apple wedges! 100% recommend. For my friend's main, he had a white fish (i think it was a haddock maybe), which was covered in a white sauce. I remember this sauce being like a sour cream, with a sweet red sauce to accompany it. This was not an impressive meal, as it was quite pricey. Given the standard of my gammon, this was a huge disappointment. Although it looks big, the portion was quite small, and the sauce did not go with the fish at all. He stated that it almost ruined the meal and was too powerful for the full flavour of the fish. This would've been better accompanied by a fish sauce, or even a cheesy sauce. He didn't recommend anyone to have this off their festive menu. Now.. the best bit. The gammon. "Sourced from local butchers. All weights are approximate before cooking. All served with chunky chips, beer-battered onion rings, grilled tomato, a Portobello mushroom and dressed salad. 8oz Gammon, Egg & Pineapple £17.95" This was INSANE. The amount of food you get with this dish is incredible. The gammon itself was salty (as expected), but was not too much. The onion rings were cooked to literal perfection. The salad with it paired well, but was absolutely not needed. The chips though, wow. They were so crispy and soft in the middle (like proper pub chips). The only disappointment with this dish is that the pineapple wasn't nice. It was rock solid, and had no juices at all. If you're anything like me, i enjoy the pineapple juice with the gammon, but it was just too dry. I also always have peppercorn sauce with my gammon. This was a bit bland and was incredibly runny so i didn't end up having much of it at all, and instead, stuck to good old Heinz Ketchup. The two times I have visited here, the food has been so good. I think it definitely depends on your individual palette, and not overall. If you like something a certain way, then you'll enjoy some of the 'stranger' dishes, like the pig's cheeks. If you're looking for value for money, this is 100% the place to go. We paid approx. £60 for this meal, along with 2 pints as usual. Great value if you ask me! Overall i'd give The Green Man a rating of 8 out of 10. 100% recommend going.

So we went for afternoon tea and prosecco. Walking in the place is welcoming and lovely, the food was exactly as described and really high quality. Unlimited tea and coffee, and loved the picnic theme. Staff were welcoming and responsive... literally couldn't ask for anything more. Perfect end to a walk!

We were a party of nine for lunch. A complicated assortment - vegan, vegetarian and meat eater. The choice for vegans was, to my mind, exceptional. We did pre-warn them that vegans were coming and they responded splendidly. Excellent.

Just a genuine, no frills, not over refurbished village pub with proper menu ‘specials’ serving local game and meat. The food was wholesome, beautifully tasty (had the three game casserole with mashed potatoes). What’s not to like? Wholeheartedly recommended and it’s now on my favourite pubs’ list. 😊

We recently went for lunch as a group as I had heard good things about this pub and our friends live in the village. Upon entering one of my friends was disappointed to be informed they had ran out of Gunniess. These things happen and to be fair, it was the day after Boxing Day. Service was swift and polite by a nice young man and the food was all delivered together and was of a great quality. Portion sizes were plentiful. A few of us ordered steaks and these were all cooked as we requested. They weren't terribly hot so that would be my only feedback but I appreciate steak cools very quickly. The chips were hot and delicious. My husband ordered the Christmas pudding but it wasn't to his personal taste as it was more nutty than fruity. All in all, we very much enjoyed the meal and the service however there was a comfort issue which did spoil it for me and that was because I was seated on a long bench and it was extremely uncomfortable (even with the provided pillows). The bench is just that little bit too high to enjoy eating a meal comfortably. It would be much more comfortable to change the bench to actual chairs as it was also incredibly hard to get in and out. This is the only reason I deducted a star as I do like to be seated comfortably when dining. We will return to the pub as the food does live up to the hype and overall we really enjoyed it but I would just make sure I wasn't seated on the bench.

Nice place. Squeezed us in last minute for lunch which was good of them. We had game lasagne which was tasty but dry. Roasted veg was mainly peppers. Service was great.

Having been brought an afternoon tea for last Christmas by a nephew, who had read previous reviews, as he lives a fair distance away we were not disappointed. Greeted, seated, lovely log burners warming a very cold afternoon. The staff we excellent, the food was fab, staff explained every items on the menu, plenty of tea and coffee and a doggy bag to take home !. Having worked in hospitality for over 22 years the Green Man are first class in service, food and price. We will be back. Keep up the excellent work very happy customers.

It was so yummy 😋 We were made to feel very welcome the moment we arrived, our afternoon tea was presented superbly, made fresh as we got drinks sorted, so beautifully presented and just downright tasty! There was nothing we didn't enjoy, we were beaten by some of the sweet treats but were offered the opportunity to have them boxed up to take home. Excellent value for money and I can assure everyone that there will be no 'Karen' moments from us! Visited the Green Man for a meal and drinks mid- afternoon on a Thursday during ‘Fish Fest’. I had pre-ordered an Octopus as it wasn’t on the menu. Chef had asked how I would like it cooked and I gave her free rein to cook and present it as she wished. On serving it looked amazing, the whole octopus served above a dish with mussels and razor clams in a lovely tasting creamy sauce. It was all cooked to perfection and tasted spot on. My friends had Lobster & Swordfish which was again all cooked to perfection. Also with regard drinks there is always a changing choice of real ales plus lagers, Guinness etc and a very extensive selection of wines, gins, rums, vodkas, whiskies etc etc to take your pick from. All in all a great day out, friendly staff and friendly locals adding to the ambience of the place. Thanks to all! Would definitely recommend, give it a try you won’t be disappointed!

Another great time at the Green Man. It was the annual fish festival. Would highly recommend it but worried that if I do we might not be able to get a booking next year 🤗. Both fish main courses were absolutely brilliant value. Service, spot on despite them being busy plus a 70th birthday party. Real ale selection excellent, my Bombardier was spot on and I was assured that the Wainwright's was as well. We took the opportunity to book to go for lunch the week before Christmas, the fact that for years we've avoided venturing out for a meal in December probably best describes how good we felt our experience was.

Disappointed tonight with the meal and the service. Have usually had lovely meals here but tonight the scallops were underwhelming, the tuna was supposed to be chargrilled but was cold and completely raw in the centre. We understand that it was maybe meant to be...

Went in for a late lunch today. Very friendly welcome and seen to with drinks straight away. We had the fish and chips which were amazing and also breaded halloumi which again was fantastic. If you’ve never been here before I 100% recommend it. Will be back again soon!

Nice little pub in a nice little village. Really helpful staff at the time of booking, and they accommodated us around other bookings. We were sat in the bar area, but there are other areas. I was told that in the future, I could request to be seated elsewhere if they had availability. Phil (the manager?) was very professional, polite, friendly and helpful throughout. A large selection of different dishes available. I was there on a Sunday, so I had a lamb Sunday roast which was lovely. We will definitely be visiting again.

We were on a weekend break in Ropsley and had dinner at the Green Man. The choice was varied with a specials board as well as a menu. We had fish & chips which was excellent and there were great desserts too. The staff were lovely and spoke to a couple of regulars who were very nice. We booked a table at 8pm. We arrived, but told our table wasn't ready and we were 10mins late. Patiently we waited, but when I seen we were waiting at the bar with drinks and not ordered our food yet, as we had no table. I seen the table we were waiting for, they had no food, finished ages ago and just drinking drinks at the table. 2 things, they could have been told the table was booked after them, which has happened to us or kindly swop places with us at the bar to drink their drinks, I would have done this, if I asked I was waiting for food, which I did ask them. Instead it was 8.40pm and still no table, they were still drinking! The staff didn't asked them to move to the bar, I asked and the people just clicked glasses. Staff ignore us, people still drinking at the table, We left! Never coming back as this place, clearly making lots of money, as we were not missed walking out or helped! We couldn't have another table as my mum is disabled and we had a dog, no help for our situation. Also it was for my mum's birthday, thanks for not serving food to us!
