We had many recommendations for this pub so planned to visit for dinner as we passed through. Luckily we called a head as we found out they do not do food in the evening. We decided to visit for a drink. The poor pub seems to be caught in a time warp, it feels like a poor mans social club, all lights turned on full and the beer was not great. A real disappointment

Went in for a lunch (2 courses for £5.95) and found this gem of a pub. THe food was fabulous - liver onions and mash in onion gravy with jam roly poly and custard for pudding.Large portion and home cooked (non microwave) all at an incredible price. The pub is a gem with sensible options such as a dog free room when eating if required - or you can bring in the dog and eat in the bar. Will certainly be back.

Reviews are accurate. Great food despite a small wait but we were 6 people and the food came out piping hot and freshly cooked. Huge portions and yet amazed at how small the bill. Would highly recommend especially when on boat trip. Maybe 3 minute walk from Bridge 40.

Our family of 6 plus two dogs had lunch at this pub today. You could not wish for a more welcoming group of people than the employees working there. Service had a local feel and was superb as was the food. The pricing was surprisingly low and we were worried it may have been too low in fact - but we need not have worried as the food was sensational! We have been talking about the experience all day. Great food, fantastic and friendly employees in an accessible location to the canal ( we are on a boating holiday)

We'd passed this pub a number of times and noticed the "2 courses for £5.95" sign outside. To be honest, we weren't expecting much for the price but we were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted warmly on arrival and chose to sit in the bar area for our meal. The two courses are either a soup starter or a dessert from a small dessert menu, plus a main of your choice. My husband had leek soup, served with crusty bread, followed by traditional cottage pie which he chose to have with chips. I chose the cheese and potato pie served with veg (cabbage, broccoli, peas and carrots!) and vanilla cheesecake and ice cream for afters. Well cooked and very generous, perhaps too generous, servings. All in all, a pleasant meal and exceptional value for money.

Came back to the Green Man with friends. We have visited before but there are now new people in charge. The quality and quantity of the food has not diminished and they have maintained the high standard of the pub. Food was hot and very tasty. We use the specials board as you also get a pudding. Great value yet again. My only worry was the first pint we had-boondoggle which was either off or not to our taste. We will go again as it is a very friendly pub and a good atmosphere

My wife and I and couple of our friends went along to this pub for a midday meal. We went based on a recommendation my wife had. They do specials on a lunch time, two course, either soup and main or main and sweet. For £5.95 I was very impressed with the meal. It was by no means small. I had liver and onions. Absolutely delicious My wife had ham egg and chips. First time we have been, certainly won’t be the last. All are locally sourced. Pleas give this pub a try. You will not be disappointed.

The Green Man is the epitome of 'off the beaten track'- but find it and you find a gem. A small beer garden and a big car park. A three room hostelry with big bar, small lounge and smaller dining room- although meals can be taken anywhere on the pub- with homely food such as crisp belly draft as separate to roast pork- also on the menu- homemade soups such as garlic and chilli- wipes out your sinusitis in one steamy bowl- the signature Black Country faggots- and hot sandwiches of pork and stuffing or turkey and gravy. Marston's, Banks's and Ringwood beers. Carling and Thatcher's served ice cold.

This pub should easily attract four or five stars for the quality of the food. We were a party on a boat holiday on the canal and had moored a short distance from the pub. Seven of us enjoyed a nice meal with drinks. I polled up to the bar and presented my credit card to pay the bill. Imagine my shock when I was told they only accept cash. As another reviewer has reported, there is a cash machine in the bar which charges for withdrawals. Very handy!

Y tan amable.

I was so surprised by The Green Man, We visited here while on a canal trip as a family party of ten, I would not passed this pub by as it didn't entice me, but the rest had already walked in.We were shown into a small room full of old books which entertained us while waiting for our meals. There was a specials board which were all home cooked in small batches and came with a starter or desert for £4.95! The food was excellent, we had such things as Chicken Jalfrezi and roast beef which were good sized portions and very tasty. The 2 course meal for 10 with drinks cost £67, there are very few places you could get it that cheap, can I give it 6 out of 5 for value please? Please go here if you are in the area, especially if you are on the canal near Swindon

The Green Man is one of the few remaining traditional English country pubs. It provides exactly what it advertises " Fine Ales & Home Cooked Food".It does get very busy now as it is the last of the original three pubs remaining in the village. There is a reason for this; it's well run! The staff are always friendly and during cold weather there is usually a welcoming open fire. The food truly is " Home Cooked" fresh every day, not the pre cooked stuff prepared off site and heated up on the premises like you get in many chain pubs. The portions are always more than generous and even if you just have a sandwich ( they are proper ones on thick fresh crusty bread) they will satisfy the healthiest of appetites like mine.So if you just want a drink in a traditional pub, lunch, or a proper home cooked meal, this is the place to go ( but hopefully not too many of you as I want to be able to get a seat!).

Since moving to Wombourne in 2010 we've used this pub a number of times and love it. It's the kind of place we often say we should use more (but we are a bit sad and don't get out much hahahaha). This is a pub we always like to go to with visitors and everyone comments on the old fashioned charm of the place, down to earth, friendly atmosphere and lovely food and drinks, all at very reasonable prices. From our house we can take a very pleasant walk down the canal which leads us to the Green Man, which although is a bit further from home than other pubs, is always worth the extra distance. The running of the place is professional without the need to dotting the i's and crossing the t's by "job's worth" staff. Everything is very clean and comfortable without the nonsense of a lot of modern, chain pubs. It is clear that all food is prepared from scratch, no ready made meals that are warmed up to order. It's all too often the case in more rural areas that a pub can appear traditional and charming from the outside then inside, it's a modern, soulless "plastic" pub, but not here.Highly recommended, in fact, as I type this we are planning a visit this afternoon.Paul and Chris (Wombourne)

Stopped off here for a Sunday Lunch while on a Canal boat holiday. Wiated for a table which was fine as we had not booked and they were busy. Went straght to mains, most of our party of 7 went for Roast dinners, when they arrived it was a bit surprising, I had Pork and received 2 small half slices of pork hidden under a yorkshire pudding and on top of a rather large dollop of mash, a seperate very large plate of 4 different veggies turned up for us to share unfortunatley only warm. we tucked in anyway as we were starving, but when the staff finally came back to ask us how our meal was and we said it was not hot enough he laughed nervously! That didn't go down well as you can imagine. The roast was £7 each so i guess you can't expect much meat on your plate for that?

A really warm, friendly atmosphere, fantastic beer (doon goggle one of the nicest draught beers I have had recently) and right next door to a canal We had just eaten our sandwiches, so did not sample the food, although the menu was remarkably good value and looked good, with generous portions. . Offering tea and coffee too, with really nicely presented tray - for £1.50. Right by a canal and in an unspoilt part of the UK. Would highly recommend, if onlyto show that there are still family run establishments that provide a local service and are friendly to passing trade. Owners went out of their way to help with walking routes and dogs welcome (except in the dog-free bar). Why are there not more pubs like this - just thought I should spread the word on this one.
