Popped in for a quick bite and a coffee on a Wednesday afternoon, there were 3 other tables in the cafe when we placed an order for 2 coffees and 2 toasties. Drinks came immediately, however we then waited nearly 45 minutes before we had to ask where our food was as we had both finished our coffees. Despite there being 5 staff members working, they claimed they had “lost the ticket” and not even the girl who took our order seemed to notice we were sat with an empty table for so long looking rather agitated. After sitting for an hour, we finally received our toasties (which had different ingredients in them than what we paid for) without an apology or an offer of a fresh coffee for the trouble. To top this off, the food was dry. Usually a nice cafe, however this has happened twice now. Terrible customer service compared to competitors, which is a shame as it’s a gorgeous place.

A fantastic little cafe, offering a very personal service. I was struggling with morning sickness, and a few members of the team went above and beyond to help me (despite being the pickiest eater!) Food was amazing, price was very fair. The atmosphere is lovely- very chilled community feel. I’m excited to hold my baby shower there later in the year! Deffo recommend if you want 5* service

Not very happy, The cakes were on display uncut so you couldn't see the portion size and when they arrived at our table they were cut like a very thin wedge NOT worth the money £14 odd for 2 small bits of cake and 2 coffees and it took 20 minutes to arrive at our table. Will never go again.

As an old Washington person born and bred who returned to his old Village Library (The Green Tearoom) last year with female friend and loved the atmosphere and amazing range of wonderful food. A great staff, friendly and genuine about the whole ambiance so I returned today and guess it is still brilliant. I only managed the sourdough toast and tea this time but remember the amount of sampling we had last time. Check it out on line it’s worth many visits…. highly recommend I’ll be back

The best thing about this cafe is the beautiful setting - overlooking the village green in Washington Village. Second best... the lovely staff. Third, the toasties, which are delicious. During lockdown this has been one of a tiny few places I have dared venture; it has always felt super safe and I have sat outside there with my friend in rain, hail, drizzle and sunshine. If you forget your umbrella they even provide those.

As a relative newcomer to the North East, I never cease to be surprised by the delights we discover on our travels throughout the region. Take yesterday, for example, when a family visit to the National Trust’s Old Hall in Washington not only proved a pleasant experience for all of us - thought the displayed modern art in the entrance lobby did not appeal to me in any way, shape or form - but also subsequently led to the discovery across the Green (full marks to the volunteers who buy, plant and maintain the flowers and shrubs there) of the village ‘concept store’ with its quirky handcrafted gifts, floristry services and vintage tearoom. It has to be, without any shadow of a doubt, one of our most enjoyable experiences of recent times. It’s a fascinating teashop, the locally-produced buns and cakes were heavenly and the lady proprietor was most charming and helpful. She would be a gold medal winner in any establishment. All in all, a wonderful day out. We certainly intend to return to Washington to see what The Forge restaurant (in, I believe, the same ownership as the tearoom) just a few yards away, has to offer. Just hope those home-made cakes feature in some way on the dessert menu!

Visited this morning and ordered two coffees and a ‘Festive Toastie’. I wish I hadn’t. The coffee was bitter and of poor quality and not particularly hot. The toastie though... wow. Inedible. Processed, supermarket sliced turkey. Utterly, utterly tasteless. A slice of processed cheese and a liberal (i.e. far too much) coating of what I imagine was meant to be cranberry sauce. I doubt it contained any cranberry and tasted more like raspberry jam. Barely warm. A handful of tasteless crisps which weren’t crisp. The toastie got put in the bin along with two half cups of coffee. Two hours later, I’m still feeling queasy. Dreadful. There were several folks out for a frosty morning walk, many with dogs. No water bowls for dogs. If the coffee and snacks were of good quality, this place could be making a fortune. Using the cheapest of ingredients is no way to encourage return visits. We won’t be back. Very disappointing indeed.

For years this was the old village green library, now pleasantly brought back to life as a tea room, come florist, come bric-a-brac shop. It has been done in a shabby chic style, giving it a warm, homely appeal and unlike many such establishments, is open until 5 pm. Their coffee is excellent and they have a wide range of teas to choose from. Delicious cakes and scones are a welcome accompaniment. We also saw a rather tasty looking pie, which we must go back and try, sometime soon. An ample choice of snacks and savouries is available daily. The seating space inside, would be rather limited at busy times; given that much of the available floor space is taken up with the cornucopia of other products on offer. There are a few seats outside but it is getting to that time of year, when these become impracticable due to the weather.Whilst diversity is often a good thing, I feel it might be better to have a singlular identity. By that I mean that it would be far better to have a room full of customers eating and drinking, rather than have half of the space taken up with stuff that might only sell now and again. The Green is ideal for those living in the village, though it can be accessed by public transport. If you are travelling by car, parking space is limited. Years ago, the village was regularly frequented by many American tourists, coming to see the "Original" Washington. Sadly this is not the case these days; which is a pity, as the tea rooms and other small businesses, would have benefited greatly.

This quirky cafe or coffee shop or flower shop - it is difficult to give it a name, is the hub of the village of Washington. We wanted food, but unfortunately, it was finished. The bar lady came to show us other places we could eat. She was so kind, we decided to stay for a drink or 3! It was quiz night and the pub was busy, but the lady said there was sausage casserole later on. When the quiz had a break, she made sure we got some casserole and it was really good. A fun evening and the locals made us feel very welcome! Highly recommended - especially on quiz night 😊

Attended a party here last night, Terrible service and drinks. The staff were miserable definitely no service with smiles in this place. I do agree with the last review, the staff need customer service training. Gin with a warm bottle of cheap lemonade for my first drink, Then I got a glass of Warm Prosecco (which I was advised by the staff that the party guests were drinking far to quick so can’t chill quick enough)🥴 Then I received a flat dreg from a different kind of Prosecco bottle which I had to send back. Then I noticed each round of the same drinks I was being charged different prices. When questioned I was told I should be lucky that I have been undercharged the previous time🥴 Good job this place is at the bottom end of the town so it was a 1 off visit, I’ll not have to visit again.

Had been to the Sunday Market at South Shields. We decided to go again to Suzies cafe for a coffee. We found a parking space and my husband went to get them I had a hot soup (vegable) and my husband had a coffee. Both really enjoyable. While were.sitting in the car.a car pulled in a disabled bay, no disabled badge.on. They didn't pay. I'm disabled and .always show my badge. Then another car pulls.up ( we were in a norma bayl as no disable.were free when we parked) along beside us, gets out dad,ma m amdchild. They too didn't pay. When we were coming out spotted two traffic wardens - hope 2 cars get a ticket.
