Having read a particularly unpleasant and angst-ridden review, we decided it sounded more like someone with a personal problem, and decided to try The Greedy Goat anyway. And we're so glad we did! The slightly bohemian hand painted decor is inviting, the well presented food is tasty and plentiful, and the proprietress is absolutely charming. Although my wife and I don't have a dog, we tend to seek out dog friendly establishments as they are generally more in the real world and welcoming - my sister's spaniel certainly thought so! Obviously it's not possible to please everyone but, based on our visit, the nasty criticisms we have read are totally groundless. It must be some attention-seeking thing.

Quirky is the word that best describes the Greedy Goat. The name is very appropriate and it lives up to that name. It is filled with local information and very unusual coloured tables. The surroundings are fresh and vibrant and the staff exceptionally attentive. We enjoyed the French toast special on our recent visit and we were not disappointed. There is a quiet calm about the Greedy Goat and a must visit if you are in the area. Background music was very much to our liking.

Right of the bat it's a lovely, quirky place with beautifully hand-painted tables and adorable resident dogs, but the cooking is really quite exceptional. The menu is full of classic lunchy, brunchy stuff, but it's never been this good. -Huge portions, made by a chef with an unerring instinct for flavour, and for succulent, comforting textures and combinations. The people are lovely too. (And Ticehurst is a very nice, pretty village too.) Honestly, this place is a gem.

I’m local to the area but I had not spotted this cafe before. I was waiting for meds to be dispensed from the next door pharmacy and thought it would be nice to have a drink and a pastry. I ordered fizzy Elderflower and a pastry, which shockingly came to just short of £10! I went ahead and paid and made my way to the back of the cafe into some sort of back room. I have to say the cafe is not at all appealing in decor. They’ve gone for the mismatched look, but they’ve spent very little on decor and it’s just not appealing. Plus there was the horrible stench of old greasy food. I sat at the table and sipped my drink which was fine, I then started on the pastry, which frankly I could have found ten times better in my local supermarket. Basically I sat there thinking I’d been totally ripped off. The pastry wasn’t even home made; so I guess they bought it in cheap and charged 4 times its wholesale price. Total greed. Whilst still sitting I looked at the menu and could not believe the prices. There is a nearby farm shop a few miles from this cafe called Eggs to Apples, they charge relatively high prices, BUT the food is good, the staff are charming and the restaurant bit of this farm shop has been decorated well. There’s even an amazing outside place to eat. How this Greedy Goat place thinks it can charge the same prices as Eggs to Apples is beyond me. Give it a big swerve. Food was so awful that I walked out carrying the remaining Elderflower drink, leaving the pastry behind. I feel very resentful at how much I’ve been ripped off. I don’t mind paying for quality food, but frankly I can cook something much better for myself at home. Avoid, avoid, avoid. It’s just a greasy spoon.

Several years after driving past this cafe, my husband finally remembered he wanted to bring me here for a brekkie. So this Sunday morning, here we are. Initial thoughts on walking in was....its a wee bit small and could be a smidge noisy (for me). BUT.....hold the line! There is also a cosy room at the rear filled with glorious sun rays this particular morning. This room is delightful with art on the walls that you can purchase. And beautifully painted dining tables in different moods. Little eccentricities like cat face coasters, a chubby chooken, and terrarium, to name a few. The ladies looking after us are 'naturally friendly' and professional. The menu is scrumptious, and it was a little difficult to decide. We both chose something different from what we normally would go for, and we were not disappointed. Everything about this wee gem is fabulous, and I look forward to our revisit.

I came here because trip advisor filtered it for cheap and vegan options. It also sounded like a community hub. I tried to see the menu online but all I could see was a photo of something non too clear. When I saw it in the flesh so to speak there were no vegan meals but one vegan alternative for a vegetarian one...so I was disappointed. However as said by others here, you can kinda make your own meal...which is what I did with the smashed avocado on toast replacing the halloumi with sweet potato. It was wonderful....had a finesse about it, the toast was hearty, and there was a kinda balsamic dressing. I had an oat milk latte too. It came to £11. They did have non dairy milks. I liked the coffee. But I wish they had vegan spread instead of the butter. I wish they had vegan cheese. I also wish they had something as imaginative on the menu for vegans, as they had for the meat eaters and vegetarians, without me having to think something up. This is why I have given it 4 stars. But it scored for the atmosphere, and the huge effort they went to to make something vegan. I hope to be back......probably with Mum... then over the road to the lovely art gallery opposite.

The Greedy Goat is a lovely welcoming cafe in the heart of Ticehurst village, East Sussex. Offers tasty snacks and cakes. A couple of observations/suggestions. Cushions available for the backs of the chairs would be good. Does the background music have to be quite so loud? For the hard of hearing it makes conversation, usually the purpose of a visit, quite difficult. Not sure why it’s needed at all actually?

I have been quite unwell, and to establish the cause I'm on a strict diet of no wheat, yeast, sugar, flour or dairy for 8 week (of hell). Anyhow as my husband ordered the full English, I embarrassingly raised my dirty issues with the very welcoming barrista/front of hse lady - whom incidentally was amazing. She was patient and understanding (this might also be due to me drooling over all the cakes behind the glass display)! Anyhow after telling the attentive lady what I couldn't have, I decided to leave the concoction to the chef... Best meal I've had in the last 5 weeks,Bacon, avocado, harrisa, sun dried tomatoes and rocket leaves....simply delightful, so tasty and thoughtout. My husbands full English looked amazing too!

Unfortunately we didnt read the reviews prior to going into The Greedy Goat. We just decided on spec to visit as it is (today) a particularly unpleasant day weatherwise. As we entered the cafe we looked around and first impressions with the lovely wooden round tables, spacious light interior and for a local cafe an extraordinarily good menu. Good start. The waitress however was unexpectedly disinterested, casual and even indifferent in her demeanour. She was too busy talking to a couple of possibly regular or known customers to attend to us. We finally ordered. How could you get such a simple meal so very wrong. The food was disgusting and cold to boot, the pot of tea - truly, just a pot of tea - no milk or sugar required - had a massive chip out of the spout, the tea was luke warm from the start and had a peculiar taste to it. The wrap hadn't been heated let alone toasted as it said on the menu and the contents minimal; the accompanying 'salad' leaves had been drenched in something that I think was supposed to be oil and an unspecified and unidentifiable vinaigrette. She was so unapproachable that we decided not to tell her and she didnt ask us why we'd left everything but stupidly we still paid! We have no idea whether she is the owner or an employee but she definitely needs to get a grip otherwise she'll go out of business. This in a lovely local village and in a prime position should be pulling people in. We'll ever go back and we could be good customers as we are in the area.

It was a shame we didn't take any notice of the sign and go somewhere else !! The woman serving was really unfriendly and it was as if we were an inconvenience to her . I don't think I have ever felt as unwelcome or received such unfriendly service anywhere else in my entire life. I have been on the receiving end of bad service and awful food, thats' just life sometimes, but this woman was as cold as ice and just blatantly rude. The person who served us this morning (12th April 9:45 Am) was so awful I was actually to embarrassed to say that I too I wanted to eat and have something to drink-- since she totally overlooked me completely so that being one of 5 persons in our group I sat with no drink and no food whilst the others ate and she didn't even notice!-- The place was freezing cold, and there was no background music-- it was literally like sitting in a morgue. She thrashed about with cutlery and pots and pans and didn't utter a word of comfort or interest- simply didn't speak and her body language was very defensive- her eventual communication was literally barely no more than what was absolutely necessary in order to vaguely be able to offer the barest of essential service -- she perfunctorily asked what our table wanted to eat and twice walked off during the interaction having assumed we had placed our entire order when she had in only asked what drinks we wanted and in fact we were still talking to her !!( didn't wait to find out if each of us would want one though !!) and again the same with the food orders which we had to call her back to the table -- she took two of our parties orders and waltzed off snapping her pen against her order pad as if to close the deal without bothering to ask the other 3 in the party what their choices were !! Everything in her demeanour screamed "I don't want to cook for you'!! As I said -- she didn't even bother to ask or notice or care that I had neither ordered a drink n'or placed a food order and so I sat with 4 other people, all of them eventually eating, with absolutely nothing in front of me -- she didn't bat an eyelid. -- I was so apoplectic I simply couldn't bring myself to challenge her because I would have launched at her and besides I resolutely by this time did not want to spend any more money in this place- I had arrived earlier than my friends and my young daughter and I sat in a cold restaurant with no lights on and with an awful frostiness emanating from this woman-- it was a very bizarre and horrible atmosphere and- well, we none of us will ever return -- had I not been waiting for my friends to arrive I would have obviously just left, but once they turned up it became to awkward to just all leave. The two other tables who came in after us ate as quickly as they could and left before us having had to shout several times to get her to come out of the kitchen to take their payment -- as did our party when we left -- Clearly she was on her own and clearly she was very very resentful of being in this position. I see from other reviews that normally this is a great place to eat and we had come all the way from Hastings (on our way to Tunbridge Wells-- we took a detour to come here) to visit this cafe based on the TA reviews that go before this one--- all I can say to the owners for the next time they go on holiday/ take time off, is to either close up shop completely or find someone who wants to be there or at least have two members of staff to share the load --- but in any event they need to get this particular employee to a stage in her life where she feels like she wants to embrace the idea of Hospitality or simply replace her entirely. I am so upset at her treatment of us- I've never been treated so coldly in hospitality (as you can probably tell ) :(

Stopped here for brekkie before heading to Eastbourne. Freshly cooked and tasty. I myself dont like Speldhurst sausages but I know they are popular. Only criticism is ,I would rather wait until my breakfast was ready then be given my coffee as I had finished my coffee before breakfast was ready.

Very noise with two sreaming kids went right though you. We made it obvious that we did not like the noise. After family had gone we had a very nice coronation chicken wrap. However waitress not that friendly might have been because we did not like the noise, she said she had been very busy.

Located just off the square, near the church, the Greedy Goat is a pleasant stop-off. Parking can be tricky so use the car park on the other ide of the road through the village. Good portion sizes, nice food.

It's not often I go to somewhere where the staff are so rude to customers. I am not even one to write critical reviews, but this was the second time we had, had rude service. My family and I went to go there for a light lunch, we weren't sure if they were open so we went in and the staff didn't even acknowledge us as we walked through the door. They then said "closing in half an hour". Ok so maybe we can just have a drink. The owner actually herded us out of the door. My husband commented on the opening times, to which the lady literally shrugged. We were really quite shocked at the rude manner we were dealt with. Just as we came out, a passer by who lives in the village said "she never goes in there because they are incredibly rude, and the language she had heard from the staff". Lovely building pity about the people who run it, spend your money elsewhere.

Oh dear...freezing cold inside, unfriendly woman, Sainsbury delivery arrived at front door which was left open the whole time and it was cold even before that! If I had a cafe I would NOT take a delivery through the cafe with customers there whilst venting my bad temper at the poor Saturday boy. What a shame as it is a nice village. Couldn't wait to leave!

A nice vintage style tea room. We chose a pot of tea for 2 and a brownie and a cupcake. All were tasty and tasted homemade. The man serving was pleasant and welcoming but I was short changed by over £4 but didn't realise until I had sat down. The toilet and sink wasn't very clean. The hand wash on the toilet is empty. A nice enough place but I will try out other nearby places before returning here.
