The Great Wall in Carmarthenshire

I ordered a few months ago, prices are reasonable, portions are ok. But the rice wasn't long grain or basmati, it was more like risotto in the egg fried rice and it wasn't hot when I walked to get my order. But food is served quickly and waiting area is clean and tidy with friendly staff. There are better options

Curry Sauce and Chips.... Always a winner here

It’s not the worst Chinese takeaway, it’s the worst food I’ve ever had. The bbq spare ribs were not cooked and served in what I would describe as muddy water, same goes for the Peking ribs. The seaweed was burnt, the chicken curry wasn’t a chicken curry, just a bit of warmed up god knows. Chips burnt. Duck well overdone. I wouldn’t give this to the rats in my barn! Stay away!

Soy sauce was a year out of date lol

Just ate from here for the first time sweet and sour pork balls and chips . Chips hard and like blades going Down your throat pork balls hard batter sweet and sour sauce has a nasty after taste . First time eating there food and the last avoid . This is a honest review

Very hit and miss. Rice smelt burnt and was not good, chips were over cooked too, dark brown and hard. Sweet and sour was almost tomato sauce. Foo youg is foo don't! Chichen chow mein was nice though, prawn balls were huge, too much batter, but they were cooked nicely and the prawns were clean. Chicken balls were good too Will try again to see if we just experienced an off night.

What a gem of a place, great price too, the food was lovely we had their meal for two and there was so much food. Well cooked and good ingredients.

Now has a 5* food rating and the service and price is excellent! Love the Hot and Sour soup and spare ribs. Has improved a lot since the -ve reviews below, trust me.

Worst Chinese I have ever tasted… chicken was like rubber and everything tasted like dish-water! Very poor… disappointing.

Come in for some criticism, but my own experience of the food is good and the service is great. Worth mentioning that it is cash only, incase you turn up expecting to make a card payment.

Ordered over the phone was told 15 minutes, waited extra 10 minutes at counter. Rice was soggy like rice pudding, the bbq ribs were all fat and tasted like they were cooked in cheap gravy and the noodle was bland, the chilli beef was 30% peas and carrots. I have been a customer for over 20 years and this is the worst Chinese takeaway I have ever had

😎 Sweet and sour king prawn balls with sauce and a portion of chips ~ all l will say is the chips left a lot to be desired ~ they had been re cooked to many times and as such were inedible ~ l don't like leaving bad reviews ~ but l did not enjoy my much anticipated meal at all . It was quite possibly a one of, but it will be a long time before l go back 😎

If you're after something different in a small town, why not give this family owned business a go. There's a good variety of food, from dumplings and starters to Singaporean noodles to Thai curry. Will it be the best Chinese you've ever had? Probably not. But there's something for everyone. I personally love the spare ribs and salt and pepper chips. The sweet and sour cantonese style chicken is also very good.

First went here back in 2017 when first I got with my girlfriend and didn't think that much of it, considering I'm from Swansea and all of the good Chinese takeaways we have in the city. (In all fairness it was pretty grim) Anyway, after breaking up at the start of 2019, we got back together at the start of 2021 and one weekend she suggested getting a Chinese takeaway, at first I was a bit apprehensive about getting one knowing how bad it was, but somehow she managed to talk me into it. Well how glad was I that she did, I was shockingly surprised on how good it was and how much the food had improved since I had last eaten there. I don't know what has changed because its still under the same ownership, but we are regular customers now. So please don't let all the old reviews put you off...

Had a Chinese last night, first time in years and first time in a long time from here. I've been vomiting and on the toilet. Felt bloody awful. Won't be ordering from here again let alone ever looking at a Chinese again in my life 🤮

As on holiday we didn't know the area, found The Great Wall by chance for a takeaway. Ordered before realising it had only 1star hygiene rating! But...The food was OK.....piping hot, taste good, Chow mein was the best dish.....only 3 stars because we've eaten better where we live 🙂

Worst Chinese take away we've ever had! It went in the bin. Found a hair in the egg fried rice,disgusting! Spare ribs were inedible,looked like they'd been stored for too long and then reheated in the microwave. Looked online and only has a 1 star hygiene rating! Avoid this place!

Great food. Ordered chicken chow mein, mushroom chow mein, mini veg spring rolls and sweet and sour chicken balls. Can't understand the bad reviews. Would highly recommend.

This is authentic as Chinese gets! I have been to China and tasted many Chinese delicacies, the way food is prepared and the state of the food is exactly what you get in China! Alot of the o the Chinese you people who have given this a one star have more than likely never tasted REAL Chinese food like I have, any time I miss China I order from here, always friendly staff which is a big plus for me and the food is top notch! #MAKINGCHINESECUISINEPROUD!

I decided to bite the bullet and try the food here, and immediately regretted it. How you manage to screw up chips and curry sauce I will never understand, but it was the worst thing I've ever eaten, there was hair in the bag of chips, which should've been called undercooked oil sticks, that's how greasy they were, the curry sauce was just tasteless spice, and even the poppadoms were inedible, I wouldn't even give them to my compost bin. Worst experience ever. Please don't waste your money here.

I dont know why anyone would ever go here. It is just horrible. The chicken tastes like dog and the beef tastes like cat. I dont know why I even bothered going here twice, it's just an experience to show how great the other restaurants are in comparison. If you're in llandeilo go to the kebab house down the road

Discusting I would not recroment this I waited ages to be served and the food was cooked in no more than 5 min The chicken made me sick and wasn't cooked properly and the chicken balls were only cooked on the outside and not cooked on the inside. Please go here if youd like to get poorly

Is it possible to score lower than 1 star? Absolutely Ghastly! Even my lurcher turned his nose up at it.

We went here for a take away because it was the only place open and we were starving but regretted it as soon as we got home. My partner couldn’t eat his ribs because they were 90% fat . I ordered prawns that were really chewy and brown chips that tasted like they were stale but had been heated up again .

Honestly the worst Chinese I have ever tasted. For those who say ok do you honestly know what Chinese takeaway can taste like?

We ordered one large spring roll and Pekinese spare ribs, a veg chow mein, prawn fried rice, and roast chicken fried rice in bbq sauce and cup of sweet sour sauce The spring roll had grey meat squares in and was stuck together with grease the bean sprouts and anything else in it was so warmed up and reheated it seemed it was shrivelled. The other dishes tasteless, sweet n sour sauce like go fruity sauce with gravy mixed together. The very upsetting dish which left us all traumatised was the huge husk of chicken in what can only be described as a black solid stuff sauce void of taste of anything the rice was stuck in clumps with grease. Everything tasted over fried very oily and old. Honestly no joke. It was a joke Paying 20 plus pounds for that.

Do not listen to these reviews. The food is incredible. The ribs are divine and pure meat. It was delicious and will definitely be back!!

Ate food from here recently, it wasn't nice at all. Crispy beef dish tasted of fish and was inedible. Will not be wasting my money here again.

We were unsure about trying this takeaway due to some poor reviews.But we fancied Chinese food and thought we should judge it for ourselves and we weren’t disappointed. We had two chicken dishes, rice and chow mein all of which were well cooked, good quality, plentiful and tasty. We will be happy to visit again and hope it is as good next time.

I wish I had read the reviews previously written, before ordering my Friday evening take-away which I was looking forward to after a hard week in work! The food was saturated in oil and the curry was thick and burnt. If you don't want to be disappointed and literally throw your money in the food waste bin, then avoid this take away. Alice

The only thing Great about this place is the exit

Whilst staying in Llandeilo to visit some family we decided to have a Chinese at the house we had rented. We had read previous reviews but in the spirit of giving things a go decided to try it... BAD. MOVE! We ordered just shy of £40 worth of food. We bought starters of BBQ Spare ribs, Mini Spring Rolls, Mini Samosas and prawn toast. The “sauce” the spare ribs were in was not BBQ... at a guess I would’ve said it was some kind of gravy granules with a pinch of 5 spice - they went straight in the bin. They were vile! The prawn toast was absolutely swimming in oil, again these went in the bin. The spring rolls and samosas were the frozen type that you can’t really get wrong! For mains we ordered: Roast duck Chinese style Sichuan Chicken Beef in Black Bean Sauce Chicken chow mein The roast duck was awful, it was covered in the same strange slimy gravy as the spare ribs. I managed to pick out a couple of small pieces of duck but it was not very tasty so gave up. The Sichuan chicken was not at all spicy. The beef in black bean sauce lacked beef... and black beans... The chow mein was apparently tasty, but there were 2 different types of chicken in there, there were slices of chicken on top and chunks of chicken mixed through. Infact the only saving grace of these meals was that the chips were edible! Please don’t spend your money here, you’d get better quality and more authentic taste from a sweet & sour pot noodle!

Avoid this place with all costs. Grotty, always found hair in my food. Such a shame as only Chinese takeaway in town. Im so glad i can drive and able to go elsewhere for nicer food

Had takeaway for myself and hubby. Absolutely awful, ploughed our way through it because I was determined not to cry over the cost. Did wonder if I would have food poisoning afterwards. It was as if they warmed up old already well cooked food. Nothing was fresh. Will never go there again and It has taught me don't trust anywhere unless word of mouth it's good. Didn't think anyone could turn out food that bad and not be driven out of town. There is a fantastic Chinese in Newbridge, they should go there and see how it should be done.

It's ok, served in about 3 mins which is quick but perhaps a bit too quick!

Hit and miss quality and service

It's hard to start with everything that was wrong with this place. from the phone call to order to the home made egg pancakes that were made to substitute the pancakes for the duck. The crispy beef was nothing like I had ever seen before. I could go on but this is a take away I wish to forget. Awful. Just awful.

Not so much of a great wall more like a crumbling ruin. Bless 'em. I think the great wall is a mystery to many locals . Until you sample the food.We have pretty much given up.To many dissapointments.The food tastes reheated and likes imagination. Nice people but friendly does not make a Chinese.Good food does.

After reading the reviews for this place i avoided it, but tonight we decided to give it a go. This was by far the best chinese i have had in a long time. Freshly cooked, nice meat and all in all lovely food. Excellent service, the lady behind the counter was very friendly.

The food was disgusting, I ordered mixed horderves pancake roll and special fried rice.not a lot to get wrong, think again it was all dry as if it had been out for 48 hrs, If i was you just don't stop and eat there!

Really good, freshly cooked, hot food and not mega expensive.. Good, pleasant service. Extensive and comprehensive selection. Order by 'phone or walk in. Not too long to wait either.

Eaten here quite a few times previously. Not mainly through choice, merely because there isn't another Chinese locally anymore. Some of the food here is okay at best, I'd recommend just getting chips if you and friends are ordering takeaway. Credit due though, their banana fritters and salt and pepper chips are quite nice but they'll probably come in a greased soaked bag. Service is friendly enough and the food is prepared and served quite quickly.

Great tofu dishes friendly service

Great sized portions but the food is 'ok' quality. Food was hot and got the job done, but was nothing special. Good value though.

This was by far the worst chinese takeaway meal I have ever had my dish was Singapore chow mien the prawns were off the small cubes of meat couldn't tell what meat it was and very small amount, the noodles fair, my wife and daughter had chicken chow mein her description, bland, the egg fried rice what egg? Consisted of the smallest grains of rice ever seen and swimming in grease, the chips were green and black. I have left a menu in the holiday accommodation that we stayed in with a written warning to avoid this takeaway at all cost.
