We were passing through Great Eccleston and decided to try the fish bar and so glad we did. Friendly quick service. Freshly fried fish and chips with a proper chip shop curry. The fish was lightly battered and delicious. Also very reasonably priced. We will definitely return.

Our order was a big order. We drove 10 mins to get there, then 10 mins to get home. Once getting back at home we realised we had no chips at all, we ordered 4. We did thr 10 minute drive back with our order number slip and receipt. We explained to the lady bagging up and another lady came over. She asked us what we ordered and I listed it. She said that what we ordered didn't add up to what was on the receipt and did we definitely not have the chips. I was so confused. We just wanted to eat our £55 order!!! No apology or anything! The just walked off saying next time ring up straight away....ACTUALLY we rang continuously and no one answered the phone. We enjoyed the food once we got back home but the whole experience of getting the food overshadowed it, sorry

What a lovely place for a delicious British supper! My family and I have travelled all the way from Devon and dined here tonight with family. Fantastic service, great atmosphere and high quality haddock! If we didn’t live so far away, we’d be here every week!

Best chippy around , go regular always good food at sensible prices .Eat in table service , or take away . Excellent ice cream aswell .

Well all I can say is the fish and chips are great. Fresh white fish cooked to perfection, batter always crispy and light. Service good staff pleasant and efficient. Always look forward to going.

Always very good, the fish is so fresh, not the cheapest chippy but the best. The staff are really friendly.

The homemade puddings are totally delicious, the fish is excellent, really good crispy batter. And the chips are spot in. The cafe is so cosy and the service is quick and efficient and the girls are very friendly. Take out or eat in, it’s very, very good.

A party member ordered a steak pudding only to be told they’d sold out so they ordered chicken nuggets, they didn’t have any! When asked if I wanted sauce I asked for brown to be told once again they didn’t have any!! When the meal came the peas were cold!

What a great welcoming chippy and great fish .you must try the curry sauce the best I have ever had . We live in Blackpool and went to this chippy on a recommendation well worth the drive . We will return.

Used to live visiting here but I won’t be going again after last night visit !! I know prices have gone up but not by the increase they have implemented! 2 small fish and chips 2 peas 2 cokes 2 bread and butter £30 !!!!! No wonder we were the only ones in there !! They’ve even stopped doing the fish specials ! For why it cost I could have gone to a restaurant!! Let me know when your prices are more realistic

Well I almost shut the door on this place last year and was determined not to go back - but like a mug I went back tonight. Queuing outside waiting for your number to be shouted only to have it thrown in a bag at you is appalling. My meat pie was microwaved so much that it was rock hard it would have broken the chippy window if I had returned and threw it at it. This used to be so nice here and all I can say is -I should have known it was bad after the last2 times I visited last year. What a dreadful awful place this is - they have no idea what they are doing - they should aim to be the very best but I don’t hold out much hope. No customer service , no finesse , can’t fry , - won’t be going back EVER.

Another delicious meal tonight. We pass approx 10 Fish & Chop shops to get here, it’s worth the journey , the fish is huge and delicious , the staff are lovely and it’s always such a lovely experience. It’s still a very busy shop it’s so nice to see a village chippy thriving .

Had dinner here tonight. Ordered small chips and a medium sized Haddock. The fish was smaller than a regular fish you would get from any other chippy. The underside on the plate was very greasy and soggy. A woman on the table next to me ordered a small fish and I overheard her saying it was tiny. Very disappointed with this place as it has good reviews. The greasy fat is still repeating on me 5 hours in! Not good. I did mention the portion size to the server but will this be rectified? Probably not.

Visited here on a pre planned coach trip following the Blackpool illuminations. Everything was organised beforehand and had great communication. We were accommodated brilliantly. We sat down in staggered sittings, as there were still some customers eating, but it was fine as everyone ate and had a lovely time. The staff were efficient and friendly and the food was excellent. An absolutely great time had by all.

I’m not sure what they do to their fish, or what they clean their food prep surfaces with, but on two occasions now the fish literally tastes of soap. More often than not, it’s fine. Not close to the standard a few years ago, but ok. After the last soapy fish we vowed never to go back. Tried a few weeks ago and I’d go so far as to say it was ‘good’, but tonight…another soapy fish! So soapy in fact that every member of the family tried it and immediately spat it out. So this time, there won’t be a next time. Just awful.

Take away with great food, all freshly cooked, and served with a smile ☺ There is also a sit in cafe which I have not tried but, if the takeaway is anything to go by it will be great.

The fish and chips are generally good but this week the batter was soggy and probably a little underdone. However, my main complaint is that every time I dine in the restaurant I come out with my hair and clothes smelling of frying food. This is unacceptable.There is no physical barrier between the chip shop and the restaurant so the smell of frying food permeates the air the result being that the greasy smell clings to everything.It would seem that a better extraction system needs to be put in place...and soon

Great food as ever but when the staff got questioned why the portions of chips where small they looked blank? We got totally ignored...service not good tonight and portions getting smaller.

We called in this evening for a chippy tea and decided to eat in , I have no complaints about the food at all , everything was freshly made and red hot . What spoilt it was the appalling service , the young man who served us either didn’t want to be there or couldn’t be bothered he brought a cup of tea to the table with a tea bag in but no spoon ! We both looked at each other as the knives and forks were dropped onto our table , this was followed but the food which was fine then when I went to pay he just said how much it was -no please then as he dropped the change in my hand he walked away no thank you ! Appalling! Shame too as team members like this spoil it for others the owners need to set up some mystery shoppers and get a real idea of who’s serving ,

Stayed with friends on Saturday & we opted for a chippy tea, fish & chips x4 plus gravy & peas, they weren’t massive portions but were really lovely, very tasty, still hot, the down side for me was being served in polystyrene boxes, not good for the environment, please switch to cardboard boxes or revert to paper ASAP please!

For the last 28 years we have been loyal customers of Kay's Fish & Chippy at Cleveleys, we still are because they the are fabulous staff and what they serve up is equally terrific, however we've moved into another area.....and whilst our loyalty to Kay's remains, we decided that once a month would be sufficient......until !We visited Great Eccleston Fish & Chip Restaurant, learning there was a long-term connection between the owner and Kay's....and without any doubt whatsoever it's clear that the high standards set by Kay's has been passed on and now available at Great Eccleston as they are absolutely terrific, we recommend them to anyone passing anywhere this beautiful Quant village...as the best best Chippy...

said all was ready drove home no large chips in the bag the chips with the sausage were soggy when I phoned bad customer services asked well what do you want to do about it . Gravy tastes of antiseptic would never go here again a few friends have said exactly the same also counted 27 flies in the ceiling and 4 landed on my face as I made the order

Although we have several fish and chip shops in our home town of Garstang, we still prefer to make the make the journey to the Great Eccleston Fish Bar for a meal that can't be beatenn - it is just GREAT!!

Arrived a few minutes before closing. Nobody served me and all still appeared busy. As with all fish and chip shops, I had to prompt a member of staff to order a fish. Was stood for 10 minutes before being served. By the time I was eventually asked my order, I also asked for a sausage and chips (as very aware these are in most takeaways readily available). I was very rudely told 'You can't have a sausage'. All they could offer was a pudding. I was in shock by the way I had been spoken to. So rude. No customer service. They scraped the last of the chips. £11 for fish, pudding and 2 pathetic portions of chips (small portion of scraps) peas and a curry sauce. Very disappointing.

I have loved fish and chips, from a fish and chip shop, since I was a little lad. While, over the years, across the UK, Ireland and Queensland Australia (latter consistently superb) I have tasted mediocre and poor fare, I have also been served some very good and truly excellent food from such shops. The Great Eccleston Fish Bar is in the very top of the my list for serving first class 'really tasty fish. We once lived quite near Great Eccleston and visited the fish shop every Friday for a very long time. A move to Scotland resulted in us being near a 'Chippy' which had won the 'Best In the UK' title and it was good, very good, but not as good as that the one in 'Great Ecc'.

Not been before , heard so much about it . I can honestly say it was delicious , the kids size fish was fab , would have done me . Staff looked after us , very good with the kids . Was a great experience, will definitely be returning .

First things first: this place is one of the best chip shops around. We've been on countless occasions for both take-out and to sit in and we are rarely disappointed (only once – my wife complained about the quality of her fish a couple of weeks ago).

Food was great.....unfortunately this was ruined by the atrocious treatment of staff by(I presume)the owner/manager. He spoke to them like an overbaring Headmaster..

The staff are welcoming and very friendly and efficient.The place was packed and a good warm atmosphere

Fish batter is lovely and crispy. More often than not freshly cooked. Have not visited the seating area but is always buisy which reflects the quality of the product

We love this place. Tonight we popped in for supper. It was 7:40pm. If you do not want people to eat inside after 7:30pm or whenever then say so..young team on tonight who all clearly want to go home at 8pm. You close at 8pm!! That means your must expect custom until then!! Put your phone's down and put your front of house faces on. It's a business if you want to survive please sort your team out. We felt terrible..watching for us to finish eating!!! Not good. We gave been customers for years. We will give you a wide berth until someone tells me things have improved. Sad as fish always fab.

I travel five miles and pass other chip shops to go to this one!!!! But am afraid their standards have slipped.....bought 2 small fish and chips, looking forward to their normally beautifully cooked fish, am afraid they were terrible....either they have changed their supplier or their batter....not good! And overpriced at 8.90 for 2 small fish and chips!!! Am afraid not worth the journey anymore. Won't be going again.

I have been to this chippy many times with my family and on every visit have received consistently high quality food, with organised professional staff who are always friendly and make sure our needs are attended to. The restaurant itself was very clean and I would highly recommended this excellent chippy!

We have been coming here for years always been good unfortunately after being seated waited a long time for orders to be taken ordered drinks a family of 4 like ourselfs came in after us had drinks and food and we got nothing waited 35 mins for a drink which didn't come food arrived 5 minutes later WRONG order we was sat facing the warmer where my husband's fish had been sat for 10 minutes so told them we didn't want it the restaurant staff need a big shake up youngsters running round like headless chickens it's a shame really as the food is always good really disappointed such a shame definitely takeout in future

We are regulars at the Grest Ecclestone Fish bar. It’s always consistently good. The fish is perfectly cooked every time and lightly battered and the chips are nice and fluffy.

This is an excellent, small, traditional fish and chip restaurant that we've visited several times; and we are not locals. What we like is the light crispy batter, the firm texture of the chips, a choice of 3 fish sizes (and chip quantities) and quality of the fish itself. They are probabiy the best fish and chips in Lancashire and therefore the world! We found the service to be friendly and attentive and (less traditionally) we enjoyed a glass of wine with the meal.

Been twice for sit in and takeout, enjoyed the food each time. Homemade pudding and gravy is our favourite. Poor service in restaurant unfortunately so would go for takeout.

Last Wednesday we visited this fish and chip shop,and "Boy" am I glad we did! The food was excellent, the service by lovely young people with a smile,the place itself very clean and tidy and didn't have to wait long for the food.

Had another visit here today and once again we thoroughly enjoyed the experience .

We have been meaning to call in here for a while now - but never seemed to be passing at the right time for us needing food. However having taken our old car out for a little run in the sunshine this week we were happy to see their attached restaurant was still open and had two portions of excellent fish and chips. Freshly cooked and served in a comfortable and clean restaurant area which seems to be well supported by the local community. My small portion was just right - and the piece of fish was a nice small but thick piece - not a tiny thin piece that I often receive, and the standard size portion was again very good. Up to now our favourite fish and chip fix has been Middle Chippy in Bispham, but the small portions on our last visit disappointed so this will probably be our new favourite now. Looking forward to our next visit

Quite simply the best fish and chips I have ever eaten. I would definitely visit again. Quick service and food was steaming hot, also the premises were very clean. A very good experience. Will definitely be recommending!

We called on a Tuesday evening, having earlier had a bad customer service experience (basically no service) at Thorpey's in Garstang. At the Fish Bar we were served quickly by the staff - ok they don't appear to be the happiest or most communicative waitresses in Lancashire. The Fish and chips were excellent - try the jumbo cod, it is huge, and they served a decent brew too. Well worth a visit in a lovely village setting.

If you’re hungry on a Friday night Up North there’s only one meal that will do. Keep your Holland’s pies, your Scouse Stew and even your Chicken Parmo, because Friday night is Chippy Tea Night!!

Not the best fish and chips. Its greasy and stodgy. They need to up their game. Better fish and chips in Thornton or Blackpool. The inside of the restaurant needs a refurbishment.

After a busy Monday, we decided to have a chippy tea but went to the Fish Bar at Great Eccleston to eat in. Two of our party had been before and recommended it. Although basic food it was served quickly and was excellent. We all had fish which was fresh and tasty and not with too much batter on it. The chips were soft and just like we remember home cooked chips before the introduction of oven chips or French fries.

Despite mixed reviews on here we had no complaints. Dining room a little spartan and staff a little miserable but on the whole felt it an ok dining experience. Had the haddock which was good and the chips were ok. Prices reasonable although a little dearer than other Fish and Chip places I have frequented. Would visit again and would recommend.

We have visited Great Eccleston Fish Bar for years - usually for takeaway. The fish, chips, peas and curry sauce are all highly recommended. Food is tasty and good quality ingredients are obviously used.

Time somebody called this super (WAS) business out---for months the chips have been terrible--soft-white- and not in any way nice--this weeks visit the last straw-the cornerstone of themenu--fish--was diabolical--the lot went into the bin--I always believed that this place was an inspiration for great fish and chips--someone has to put this place back on track

Here for lunch today and whilst good,we found the firm's other branch in Carlton superior.,We opted for Haddock regular chips and 1 bread and butter with lot of tea for 2.

We have been visiting for several years and haver had chips that have been generally fantastic, often some of the best we have ever had. However the chips can be hit and miss and the ones we had recently were simply too small. We have to go home and top up on sandwiches, crisps, ice cream to fill the gap! The gravy is normally excellent but again this seemed below par. We took someone who was sceptical about Gt. Eccleston to try to prove him wrong but we were unable to. Please give larger portions and improve the gravy to how it was in the past.

I used to visit this fish and chip restaurant regularly prior to moving to the village some 5 years ago. The staff are pleasant and cheerful and I usually 'eat in' on Friday night when a number of locals and visitors have the same idea.The standard is always high and I usually chose lightly battered hake (or large haddock), chips and mushy peas. The large haddock will be too much for some appetites but is no problem for me! As the Fish bar is licensed is also possible to order a wine or beer to have with your meal. Overall the food and surroundings are great.

Have reviewed several times, and find it difficult to phrase my comments any differently to those used before. Excellent fish and chips; service with a smile; value for money. Can have wine with the meal. Unbeatable.

My husband and myself go to the Great Eccleston Fish Bar both on our own and with friends and always have an excellent meal of fish and chips. They are always tasty, well cooked, piping hot and delicious. Served with a good pot of tea, a very satisfying lunch or tea.

Quite simply, the best by far. Top class fish and chips, which can be enjoyed with a glass of wine - or non alcoholic drinks if preferred. Pleasant and efficient service. A testament to its popularity is the fact that at 5 pm, when it opens up for evening service, there's a queue outside the door - and there's often a queue later on, waiting for tables to become available. Don't need to say any more.

I went bought fish ,Chips peas , for me and my husband ,staff wasn't very friendly , noticed when I got home that there was a hair in my food ,rang up to be told just take it out ,very rude , nobody wears hats to stop hairs from reaching food , also touch food not best of chippy , and for the price I paid to get. Hand full of chips ,not worth it ,perfer to go extra mile for better service and nice staff

As an ex-pat, it has been 40+ years since I was in Gt Eccleston. The village is still quaint and interesting. We tried the 'chippy' on the basis of the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and we were not disappointed. The fish, Cod in this instance, was beautifully cooked with just the right amount of batter. The portion was huge; a complete side of fish. It was to die for. I haven't tasted chippy fish so fresh for decades. The chips had just the right amount of crunch which, when doused with vinegar, brought back so many memopries of 'chippy' dinners.

This is in my top 3 Fish and Chips ever. Golden cod with crispy chips and mushy peas. We had a takeaway but it was full inside - no wonder - what a great reputation this place has. Located on the main road in a picturesque village.

Lily white fish, very tasty and best I've had in the North West... would highly recommend. Set in a lovely village.

This is one of the jewels in Gt. Eccleston's crown. A great takeaway or eat in fish & chippy. Reasonably priced, the food is always hot and tasty. I can thoroughly recommend it if you're in the area and looking for something to eat.

We had the large Cod......Best ever fish and Chips.. will be making this a Regular!!!Chips were spot on!! And the Curry Sauce was Top class too!!

We visited here at 5pm, the place was packed out. Served pleasantly and fairly quickly, we chose cod (only available as a massive portion) chips, mushy peas with bread and butter......and cheese and onion pie with the same. Hollands pies are not my favourite, I find them all pastry but acceptable.

Whilst visiting family we visited this chip shop under their recommendations. I had the meat and potato pie which was to die for!!! Husband had the fish and chips and said they were lovely too. Chips slightly greasy but lovely all the same!!

This was the first time in my life that I have managed to eat all of my fish and chips as I usually give up half way through! This meal was too delicious to leave any! The gravy and curry sauces we had tasted homemade, absolutely yummy! We will definitely be visiting again.

From Wolverhampton, We were visiting family , stumbled across fish shop after miserable rainy day. We wanted take away- good job as restaurant was packed- good sign we thought and we weren't disappointed. We had haddock for adults and battered sausages for the children- all cooked fresh in front of us- friendly welcome and great take away food, we would recommend to anyone looking for what it is..... Sit down or take away. Damn good fish and chips (and pies/scampi). Fantastic batter and (sometimes) chips that you can only dream about (crisp on the outside, fluffy in the middle). If you want lemon on your scampi, take your own. This one is one of our favourite eateries.

Visit the restaurant fairly regularly, and did so again today! The food here is consistently perfect, by far the best fish and chips I've ever had, not to mention the amazing home made steak and kidney pudding, mushy peas and gravy which are all fantastic! Best enjoyed with a glass of Dandelion and Burdock :D

We visited the Great Eccleston Fish Restaurant to eat in which was really good as they were queueing out of the door on the take away side. We found a table straightaway (having said that it was the only one free), our order was taken almost immediately and the drinks were served quickly. The food followed shortly after, it was hot and very tasty. I would certainly go again.

The chippy is a excellent place to visit.The food in chippy is second to none.Staff are very friendly indeed.Rating from me is 12 out of 10 👍👍👍
