First visit to Thorpeys. Let’s just say it’s traditional. Ultimately it’s all about the food & it definitely deliveries on that front. Generous portions & well cooked. Peas tasted particularly good, reminded me of my nans mushy peas… All in all, good job!

Walked in for a takeaway and walked straight out again. What an unkept and dirty place it is quite disgusting. It looks like months if not years of grim and muck everywhere!

My brother took me this place when I went to visit him and it's honestly the best fish and chips I've ever had! Great fish and freshly cooked to order, hence why you have to wait. Why some people complain about this is ridiculous, it's freshly cooked! Chips are brilliant and I live over 30 miles away and would happily travel to have fish, chips and peas as they're amazing. Try it out, you won't regret it (Unlike some of the moaners who've left reviews)

I’ve eaten many times now and every time the quality has been superb, so much so my brother will travel over 20 miles to join me as they are so tasty. Can’t believe some of the negative reviews they must be getting confused I’ve never had a problem with the fish or chips. Do people not realise it’s better to wait for each fish at least that way you know it’s freshly done and not over cooked and dry like other chip shops I’ve been to. Keep up the good work can’t wait to come back again.

More batter than fish, which was tasteless, chips were ok and the peas were nice, a lot of people were buying sausages, would not go again and advise to definitely avoid the fish.

I as we all do try and get our heads around all the different Covid rules. But this place just doesn’t get it. I and my family visited recently and after ordering we needed extra salt and vinegar - I was told that I couldn’t do it myself because it needs to be sanitised by the old lady that works there. But outside in total contrast hasn’t been swept properly in months - cigarette dimps lay all around as did thick dirt underfoot. The tables hadn’t not been cleaned nor had the seats , the weeds up the ramp were overgrown and used masks were strewn around the place. So to say the salt and vinegar needed to be sanitised when all that crap was outside is a joke. Oh and by the way - the tins of soda weren’t sanitised either.

We got 3 regular fish with chips on Tuesday 25 May at 6PM we were most disappointed the fish was tiny and was sitting in oil. We won't certainly never going back there.

I've been nipping into Thorpey's every now and again for a few years now. Usually their fish and chips are good. With some work in the north of the county this past couple of days I couldn't resist once again calling in for fish and chips! Yesterday it was really very good - today's food - again the fish and chips were excellent. The fish was beautiful, fresh lightly cooked with a light crisp batter - absolutely gorgeous! So very muchly enjoyed in these scary depressing times. I will be back as soon as I can!

Surprised at how good the Covid response was in this fish and chip shop, nearly all customers observing the regulations, makes the experience so much less stressful. Fish and chips and meat pudding nice. Would have been 5 stars except the wait at tea time is very long indeed. They seem to be permanently waiting for each fish to be cooked to order instead of having a bunch ready and the portions are surprisingly small .

January 2020 whilst passing Thorpey's, myself and few mates decided to call in and what a delight, superb food, hot, tasty and plentiful, we were 3 hungry fellas and after having Fish n Chips with a pot of tea made or day. Not particulr cheap, infact the price i would say is above the average, but needs must and intend calling in gain. During the terrible times we are living in, however, work needs to be done and travelling past Thorpey's many times, when it was a takeout only and sit in car eting a bag of chips, just puts a smile on day. When they were allowed to open the dining area, many times i called by and sat with either Fish n chips or Steak and Kidney pud with chips, curry sauce and a pot of tea. For me its an oasis in these gloomy times and will carry on eating at Thorpey's. To be fair, there has been the odd occasion before the dining area was opened, I found the chips not at there best, nut mostly they are spot on.

Was on our way back from Barton grange with family and thought we would grab something to eat on the way home ... the lady that greeted us was rude and looked like she couldn’t be bothered being there ... we don’t get out much cause of the local lockdowns so to be greeted by someone so rude was a shame! To top it of the chippy we got was awful the fish was soggy and chips under cooked ... very disappointed am to complain but would hate for anyone to waste there money! Needless to say we won’t be going again

On a drive out we passed this chippy and decided we fancied some food. We had a takeout and sat in the car and my goodness what a treat. You appreciate little things all the more when you have been deprived of them. They do have a cafe so you can eat in. Quite a popular place. Don't go on a Monday they are closed.

Back Again Lovely summers evening Benches in use now plenty room. Great fish and chips highly recommend Service with a smile

Fish and chips obviously Usual Chippy tea run for us lads. Out on mcy was bit damp So had to throw it down a bit Sharpish. Good fish and chips, Fish could been bit crispier and chips bit longer in the fryer do like a few crispy ones. But cheapish plenty parking no use of any tables at the moment so Sad.

we are lorry drivers on our way home South. stopped here for evening meal,lovely fish and chips.we had the haddock freshly cooked with a cup of tea .will be back.

Visited here following a hectic family removal. It had been many many years since I had visited a chippy for a takeaway and whilst the layout was familiar the cardboard boxes were an improvement on the old newspapers I remembered from the 70`s. Also the prices were more than I expected not falling far short of the Barn in Scorton - fish, chips and mushy peas for 4 came to around £28. I noted that our batch was freshly cooked ( mind you it wasn`t busy - apart from 2 customers eating in) and it took about 10 minutes for our order to arrive, neatly boxed and bagged.We were hungry and tucked into our meals with gusto once we got home. The fish was tasty in a crisp batter, the chips were ok and the portions were generous ( you do not need a portion of mushy peas each- one between 2 would have been more than enough!). Trouble was that about halfway through the batter and chips combined into a greasy pile no doubt due to the paper and cardboard in whch they were served not absorbing the excess oil. The result was we were all left feeling slightly queasy. Whilst I think that part of this was that we had all moved on from fish and chip takeaways I reflected that the use of newspaper to serve chips back in the day at least had the effect of absorbing the excess cooking oil which had somewhat spoiled our meal. Would I go there again? Probably - but it will not be for quite a long time - maybe another family eating emergency!

This was my first visit to Thorpey’s Fish and Chips Restaurant. There’s ample parking. The dining area is tired looking though and would benefit from modernising. The fish, freshly cooked, was over cooked and the chips were small like scraps. Tea was nice however. This place could be so much better. Wouldn’t rush back

Good hot food and plenty of it at reasonable prices. Great for us to stop off when visiting Blackpool from the West coast of Cumbria.

Having visited on numerous occasions for a bag of chips I have to say they are some of the best I’ve ever had! They seem to cook in small batches which means they are always fresh and the size chips are of varying sizes meaning some are quite crispy. The staff are always friendly and the restaurant always busy. We haven’t eaten in yet and are looking forward to tasting the fish!

Scrummy fish & chips, massive portion so great value for money. We ordered a large chips to share! Mushy peas were lovely too

For a simple and quick meal you can’t beat Thorpeys. No frills, but fish and chips as they should be and if you want a change try their home made cheese and onion pie - delicious. This is always the place my parents want to come when we visit them. Staff are friendly and customers clearly love this place....it is always busy.

Went for the light bite it was £9 50 the fish was over cooked the chips was scraps it was not worth the money I think it is the dearest chip shop around Garstang will definitely not be going back

Great quality and tasty. Ordered the fish bites and chips. Excellent curry sauce too. Bonus easy to park in car park and convenient location on A6. Will be back!

First time visit tonight great fish, well sized portion of fish, light crispy batter. Mushy peas were fine, chips were quite nice , although you were warned by a notice as you went in that the chips were being made with New potatoes and therefore may now be as crisp as you like. Although the fish was haddock and they do not serve cod and the waitress was abrupt in her manner when telling me that.

We had take away fish and chips - take away straight to the bin.

A wonderful meal with friendly staff, would recommend to anyone who likes Fish and Chips, always come here every holiday

An eat-in chippy is a fine thing when the fish and the chips are as completely excellent as they are at Thorpey's. If you're travelling north and you come off the M6 at Junction 33, turn left and you'll see it on your left three minutes along the A6.

Have stopped at this restaurant a few times. Friendly and helpful staff, good food and clean facilities. Would recommend.

Called here on our way back to caravan site in arnside. Asked the miserable waitress for the large fish & chips (fish & chips pease, bread & butter, tea.) 1 horrible slice of bread and cheap margarine. Then came the fish and chips the wife said we ordered large fish & chips (that is the large she replied) the wife said she wanted to get up and walk out and leave and reject them but I was starving.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our food from here. Good portion sizes. Delicious and decent prices.

Busy day working myself and wife and daughter fancied some chicken nuggets so driving past we decided to give a try.Shouldve checked trip advisor first.I think the animals in the farm over the road would have better food! The fish was greasy peas tasteless and the chips were by far the WORST I’ve ever eaten.skinny,reheated,recooked disgusting.If passing and hungry then jog on its poor,really poor.

Tried this place twice to give it a fair chance.Not very good, staff don,t seem to like strangers , and the place needs a good clean up.

Recent visit, ok food but very greasy. The whole place needs a deep clean, dirty cups, tea pots, tables and cutlery but most worringly the toilets have layers of mould right round the floor. When serving food the expectation is that cleanliness and hygiene are a priority.

Use to love this place came in October it was not very good smaller portions,tasteless fish lots of grease, re visited today thinking may have been a one off last time it was horrible same complaints as last time with less taste and much more grease don't know wheats happened but we shan't be back

Stopped off on a journey having never been here before. Convenient A6 location, easy parking. The staff were not what you would call friendly, there was no greeting, no smile or hello, just a 'go in and sit down' kind of attitude. Sat in a window seat and ordered our fish and chips as there is table service in the diner side. The food was OK - about 6/10. It was quick, hot and there was enough to fill us up. The place could do with smartening up a bit in many ways - staff could smile and say hello, and the diner could do with a deep clean, especially the windowsill areas. Maybe a couple of new pictures on the walls too (bin the seaside themed ones which are all faded and stained). I know it is just a basic chippy and that it serves a purpose,but I don't think we would go back here again.

You’d think years on that they’d learn how to cook decent fish and chips but NO, they’re still inedible!

This is my third visit after a long time. My choice chippy was closed so had no choice as we finished work and had three hour journey ahead.

We visited on a Friday lunch time with my parents. My dads favourite meal is fish and chips. Three of us got the fish and chips special, which is really good value, chips, really large fish, mushy peas, bread and butter and tea, for under a tenner. I had the homemade cheese and onion pie and small chips, wow! The cheese and onion pie is one of the best (apart from mums) i’ve had, the piece I had was very generous. The place was very clean and tidy, the staff were friendly and attentive. Made us feel welcome with a friendly hello when we entered the cafe. I would be happy to eat there again, my dad who’s eighty two has already made plans to call in again and he is fussy about his chips, so that’s how much he enjoyed his food!

Excellent service price reasonable excellent food. Very good service no time to wait for your food and very hot when you get it.

Used to be a little chef--still is--good stopover rest on busy A6--Fish and chips ok but NOT earth shattering-clean-tidy and yes useful been twice and same old same old

We called in whilst on the A6 on our way back from Lancaster. We found a table quickly and were served in a good timeframe. The chips where plentiful and my pepper steak pie was delicious. The battered sausage and fishcake also went down well. Staff friendly and prices good.

We had taken the kids to the winter wonderland at Guys Thatched Hamlet, so on the way home we decided to try Thorpeys, we had driver by so many times and it's always looked pretty busy so we thought we would give it a try.

Lovely fish and chips meal inside, but sadly (without malice) the service and attitude spoilt it all and left a bad feeling.

We called in here for tea and ordered fish and chips. The service was excellent as was the food. We had the smaller fish and chips but there was plenty of food including of course,bread ,butter and a cup of tea. Lovely traditional place.

Called at Thorpey’s for a treat for lunch on a family’s birthday. Staff are great and food is served quickly and is piping hot. Regular specials are on offer that include bread and butter, a must for chips, and a cup of tea or cold drink. Good food good service can’t recommend enough

I wrote a very rare bad review two years ago as their chips gave me indigestion and were horrible. Feeling in a forgiving mood, we visited again yesterday to give them another chance. (surely they wouldn't still be in business doling out the same stuff?) WRONG. Nothing had changed. The great British public are showing the blitz mentality and putting up with it. Go to Great Eccleston where the queues out the door speak for themselves.

Came here last year, we new we liked it, so came back. Just as good as before, good parking, nice staff, good cook, nice food, highly recommended.

We rarely write a bad review on TA, however, as Thorpey's has no email a/d, we feel compelled to on this occasion. We drove back from Scotland last Tuesday and planned to stop for the first time at Thorpey's. The restaurant wasn't busy so we took our seat and note that the cutlery was already on the table and that it was stained. We cleaned it without complaint and waited for the waitress to take our order (a mature lady with short dyed black hair). She looked but didn't acknowledge us whilst serving the next table, she returned twice more to our area and each time totally ignored us. After 20 minutes we got up and left the restaurant, which she didn't even acknowledge. As a family business, the owners should employ staff with the right customer service skills. We chose instead to pay our first visit to the Great Eccleston Fish Bar, where the staff, service and meal was excellent.

Gem of a place. Great food. Fish (giant), chips, peas, bread and butter and a cup of tea. Cant beat it. Friendly , smiling staff. Clean and comfortable. Nothing fancy but why would you want that if you're having fish 'n chips. Great little place, plenty of room and made to feel welcome and "at home". Great for take aways but also grteat to sit and eat it in comfort. Worth a look.

Nothing amazing, no complaints. This was once a Little Chef, now a chip shop which I guess is aimed at passing traffic heading North or to Blackpool. Suited to people who want to eat indoors rather than take away in the car, which is never a good idea. ;) The food was a little more expensive that I would pay in a typical chip shop, but that is acceptable as we can sit indoors.

Went here one afternoon, was quite bust got the fish and chip special came with bread n butter and cup of coffee, chips where nice and fresh, fish could. Of been a bit more crispy but was nice.

Generally good / very good, but the portions can be a bit too small. Last time there was room for another portion of chips in our chip carton!

We have visited Thorpeys several times and eaten in the cafe on every visit over the last five years, the fish and chips are excellent lovely plump large fresh fish and crispy chips with peas bread and butter and a pot of tea, who could ask for more!!

A great choice if you are happy with good old fashioned fish and chips! Very quick and helpful service. We would call again!

Returning from Blackpool to Scotland, we needed a quick tea without crowds. We had seen this old Little Chef building had been turned into a Fish and Chip shop/restaurant so gave it a try. The small portion special was more than we bargained for but the fish was well cooked and filled the plate. Chips were tasty and mushy peas in nice dishes. Bread and butter and a lovely pot of tea added to the excellent value. Staff were friendly and efficient. Setting clean and tidy.

Visited on the way home after a day out with the grandchildren. The haddock and chips were flakey and tasty - perfectly cooked - portions were very generous especially the kids. The place was extremely busy which speaks volumes but unfortunately makes the wait longer.

Mi marido había estado enfermo durante un par de días, no comer mucho, y sólo me apetecía pescado y patatas fritas. Fui a Thorpeys y ordenados, el personal era amable y eficiente y no tuve que esperar mucho tiempo. (aunque no estaba lleno). Cuando llegué a la casa de comidas, mi marido no podía comer, el pescado estaba hecha y para ser sincero no aspecto fresco. (el pescado tenía un ligero matiz de color rosa a blanco cremoso y no como debería ser). Las fichas simplemente no parecía apetitoso y sabor rancio. Mi marido son palabras exactas "sabía como me había comprado la última noche y calentado en el microondas", nunca había pescado y patatas fritas que mal nunca.

This has got to be one of the best fish and chips in the Northwest. We travel a fair distance off the M6 for our tea on the way home. Cooked to perfection and great value

Have eaten here a lot can't really fault it good all round but very disappointed to see snail trails on the carpet in the restaurant very off putting will struggle to eat in the restaurant again.

I really enjoyed my food from here was fast and hot. Chips wernt even soggy when i got home which is really good for a chippy

Stopped here again on way to Blackpool for new year,we both had the fish and chips.Lovely crispy batter,fish cooked to perfection and the chips just briliant.Never pass it now only wish it was a lot closer to home.

He estado en unas cuantas veces de Thorpey. A veces tienes que esperar un rato para la comida para venir a la mesa, otras veces es bastante rápido. Lo principal es que los peces son peces realmente fresco húmedo y las patatas fritas son real spuds, nada de eso cosas congeladas.

Called in late afternoon for a meal-cannot fault the fish and chips which were both good. Service was very efficient and the wait was very reasonable considering everything was freshly cooked to order.

Abrupt and miserable staff who didn't smile once during our visit. Children's meals nearly double the price for sitting in a canteen style 'restaurant'! Poor quality meal and very expensive, don't bother visiting.

Stopped at Thorpeys for lunch today again. As usual, great food, spotless surroundings and friendly service. Superb value for money....👍

We stopped here as we where passing,fish and chips,I had homemade cheese pie which is the best I have ever had,the chips are freshly cooked really caring friendly staff everywhere was really clean old fashioned chippy really great lunch

Restaurant was being run by young inexperienced people who appeared to be disinterested and was using the work experience to pass through uni or worse were just trapped in a dead end job.

Bad habits while making food ! Handling money and food without washing hands.... person who makes fish etc strokes his beard and you never know if you get battered beard hair !!!!! Not a nice thought ! Minging.

Stopped for some chips ... Heated up and not at all nice ... freshly cooked we were told !!!!! We will not be returning

We called here today for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our haddock and chips.The haddock was delicious with a thin batter but lovely fish and the chips were well cooked.Tea or coffee and bread and butter alongside.A perfect economical lunch.wWe will certainly call again

Yo tenía una llevar pescado y patatas fritas que cuestan £5.30. hoy

Nos detuvimos aquí en el camino a casa una cena y realmente deseé no haber molestado. El pescado tenía todavía era nadar aunque en grasa pero por suerte las patatas estaban tomando la grasa por desgracia les hace incomible.

Fuimos a este pescado y patatas fritas. tienda recomendado Fue horrible, el peor pescado y patatas fritas, que he tenido. Las patatas fritas eran parte cocinada, y algunos eran recalentadas. Fue 30 minutos antes de la hora de cierre y aunque el pescado estaba siendo preparado, papas fritas podría haber hecho. No volveré

Hemos llamado de nuevo aquí y tenía una fabulosa para llevar siempre el pescado cocinado a la orden y son muy frescos y las patatas fritas para morirse.

Staff are excellent, I have had chips from here many times either as take away or sit down with kids, the chips use to be lovely big and fluffy but over the last year the chips have become hard and very bitty, took the kids there on Saturday and over half the chips were left due to being small hard bits, really sorry but for the price you charge (nearly £5) for a kids meal we wont be coming back.

Nos encontramos con este lugar por accidente, pero me alegro de haberlo hecho. No dudaríamos en llamar o recomendaría a cualquiera de la zona. Me había pescado y patatas fritas con pan y mantequilla y guisantes una taza de té por £8.75, que por lo que nos dieron era buena relación calidad-precio

The chips here are currently top notch - superb in every way. The parking is also great and the chips appear often to be made fresh. We stop as often as we can. This is one of our favourite chips shops.

Reasonable chips, nice peas, and tasty fish bites. All for £2.85. Pretty good value compared to some chippys I have visited. Not amazing chips. But okay. I've definitely had worse.

Lo que era una broma, que mal hace años, cuando era un pequeño chef, afortunadamente, cerrado y llegamos a este lugar!

Siempre nos pararla en nuestro camino a casa de Barton Grange centro de jardín, pero esta vez nos quedamos bastante decepcionados. Ambos nos ordenados pequeño 'especiales' y cuando llegamos nos inmediatamente me di cuenta de que las patatas fritas eran re-climatizada color marrón oscuro y muy pasada-así como estar mucho más pequeña de lo habitual. Parece que han prescindido de lo que le da una cuña de limón para su pescado y los guisantes blandos estaban medio cocido y difícil. Como una crítica anterior, no creo que volveremos por un tiempo hasta que leer mucho más positivos comentarios.

A good place to stop off & either sit in to eat or takeaway. Wasn't overly keen on the food but was in need of something to eat. There's toilets as well as a cash withdrawal machine (min of £50 I believe).

we were tired and hungry ,so were pleased to see this place on the journey home.Clean toilets ,reasonable price and portions .Im afraid the staff let it down as not a smile in sight !! still worth remembering if that way again.

Hemos estado nos quedaremos aquí durante años y recomendado a la familia y amigos. Normalmente fuera de este mundo. Sin embargo, hoy nos dejó un pescado poco desalentados genial pero chips no es bueno. parecía como refries algunas partes están muy oscuro pasada y no a la altura fue el mismo en cada comida. El servicio era positivos: como de costumbre. Un viaje para el baño en el camino me dejaron un poco aliento tras el insoportable olor a cloro. Por lo menos, demostró que se limpian y estaban limpias y estaban impecablemente

El novio y yo sólo en camino a casa de grange de Barron y nos había dicho varias veces lo que queríamos venir aquí y probarlo. Este día lo hicimos! Cuando entramos por la puerta nos dimos cuenta ninguno de nosotros había efectivo pero afortunadamente ... tienen un cajero automático dentro! peto!!

Hemos llamado a esta F & C cafe unas cuantas veces a lo largo de los años, ya que es amable y práctico, pero las dos últimas veces aunque el pescado era de primera clase las patatas fritas eran casi incomible. Nos dieron la impresión de estar mantienen calientes por las edades, eran marrón oscuro, floja y me dio indigestión para el resto del día. Esta vez lo mencionamos a la camarera que dijeron que habían tenido problemas para obtener buenas patatas - realmente? Si están escatimando en el componente principal que necesitan para reducir sus precios también. Esto ha sido como éste por un par de meses, así que no vamos a volver hasta que leí un informe data que han probado un poco más difícil.
