Food and service was fantastic, huge portions of great pub food. Rooms were nice too in a historic setting. Fabulous view out of the hotel and a really pretty village. All in all, amazing value for our stop over to play rugby!

Celebrating a birthday and was so disappointed by the food. I had the lasagne with chips. It was really poor quality food including reheated chips and a lasagne that tasted of nothing. I couldn't finish the meal. As this was paid other family members I felt I couldn't complain. We live locally but I certainly won't be going back there in a hurry.

Visited this evening and had an amazing experience. We were immediately welcomed and shown to our table. All staff were so helpful, friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and generous portion sizes. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and staff ensured we had drinks when needed. Only come here when on holiday but if I lived closer would certainly visit more. Thank you for a lovely evening. We will return next time on holiday here.

Very friendly staff. Excellent customer service. Knowledgeable housekeeper & Manager. We arrived late from our hike and the kitchen had been closed 10 minutes, however staff waited for us and arranged for ourselves to have an evening meal with no hesitation. Accommodation was clean and well equipped. Apartment built to high standard, top quality, ideal for small groups exceeded our needs.

This is one of the best pubs I have every been to. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and attentive. The pub was full but the service was still excellent nothing was missed. Would recommend the soup of the day and the curry of the day - all top quality. The only problem that we had was that were were too full for puddings. Would definitely go again even though it is 82.5 miles away. Furthermore for all the food that we had including drinks it only came to £48.25 - excellent. Will be recommending to all our friends.

Agggghh!! I am SO very sorry, I said I wasn't sure how this pub could be in the Top 10 Pubs, I take it all back this was ONLY based on the fact that my husband said how could it achieve such a prestigious award when it didn't serve real ales. It turns out that it DOES indeed usually have three ales on tap. When we came, a Wake was taking place that afternoon, so somehow we missed the real ales, we really should have asked! This pub /hotel is TRULY LOVELY! It's nestled in the heart of the stunning Welsh mountains, a beautiful green valley, you can hear the steam train puffing by, along with the sound of birdsong. It's a little oasis of peace and calm. We didn't go in the stunning big garden as we didn't want to disturb the mourners, I so wish that we had. I really hope my review didn't take off the shine of your well-deserved award and all of the hard work that had gone into making it such a delightful friendly place. We only came for a drink, Maentwrog is easily reached by bus from Porthmadog, but the hotel is perfectly placed for exploring the surrounding area, especially if you have a car. The Grapes, now we know it has real ale, 100% deserves to be in the Top 10, it really does! Good luck to you all and the welcoming attentive staff.

We were a group of four. Stunning views across the outdoor seating and along the estuary. Service friendly and efficient. Dissapointed no wine list but choice of three reds offered. Didn't have starters but enjoyed mains. My salmon was as good as ever. Were asked if we wanted desserts as plates for mains were collected - a little break would have been good. Desserts were okay. Four stars this time because of wine list but this is definitely one of our favourite and reliable local restaurants.

Brilliant location as a base for exploring North Wales. Staff are super friendly and helpful, and the food , well that’s just absolutely amazing, all home cooked , big portions and so flavoursome and perfectly presented. We stayed in the cottages on site and everything was easy going and private. The car park gets very busy at certain meal times as the place gets well used by the locals, but that’s a good sign. Absolutely no hesitation in recommending this place and would certainly stay again next time I’m in the area.

Stayed for 2 nights while we were doing the Go Below activity nearby (highly recommend btw) and the whole experience was fab. My best friend and I shared a King room which was a great size, overlooking the mountains and rear pub garden ( that looked so nice that I’ll be back to visit in the summer) and had dinner and breakfast in the pub. The food was quick to come out and really tasty, the full English was just as I would expect in a fantastic Welsh pub, the service was friendly and attentive and all the staff were super cute! Would recommend 🥰

After having many pleasant experiences in this establishment, I receive a rib eye steak cooked rare rather than medium rare as I requested, peas were cold , and the oven chips were overcooked to burnt , the best part of the meal was the vine tomatoes which in my opinion doesn’t justify a £25 price tag, I flagged up that a pint of lager was missing from my bill only to be presented three day’s later with an inflated tab, I would recommend that people pay as they go, or confirm beer prices, I did challenge the tab only to be told to he beer had gone up, this didn’t equate to the price increase, needless to say I will not be returning to this establishment , maybe it’s because I’m English??

The Grapes Hotel, husband and i had a fabulous stay, ended up staying just over 2 weeks. Rooms nice, clean, comfy everything you needed was there, if not just ask that simple . The food outstanding breakfast fab and so was the service every single time, had lunch on the odd afternoon again fab and the service, we dined every evening the food outstanding everything home cooked and again could not fault the service at all. The landlord and landlady are friendly, welcoming they have a beautiful hotel. The staff are a credit to them they have a good team working all together like a family . Each and everyone of them work hard but still have the time to stop and chat . The Sunday carvery is a definite must, need to book and reserve a table it gets soooo busy but it is worth it. The Grapes does get busy so I would recommend to book and reserve a table. Can’t thank all the staff enough, thank you Llinos , Andrew , Chloe , Paddy , Karen & Daniel Mr & Mrs Davies We highly recommend to visit this place. We stayed here for a weekend, clean tidy rooms - staff were all absolutely lovely. Food was delicious and vvvvvv well priced for the quality of the food. Drinks very reasonably priced too. Breakfast was delicious. The best priced stay we've had anywhere I'm a long time for the quality. And a lovely atmosphere with vv friendly locals. A hidden gem and we will be back and recommending. Ps. Keep up with the responses to the 'negative reviews' I do not understand for the price and quality how anyone could grumble - typical society today unable to speak directly to the business face to face to address any 'concerns' the customer is not always right ( normally actually wrong with to high expectations and entitlement )

Firstly we’d like to mention that we’ve read some of the responses from the owner/manager of The Grapes to other critical reviews, and would suggest that you read them too. We also look forward to the reply to our review. We stayed at The Grapes in Oct’ 23, having booked one of the ‘cottages’ for a week. When we arrived we went to the bar to check-in, all good so far. The lady who checked us in asked us what time we would like breakfast each morning, and as we were told breakfast was served until 9:30am we arranged for 9:15am. We were then shown to our ‘cottage’ – number 2. Upon entering the ‘cottage’ we were surprised at just how tiny it was, there was barely enough room in the bedroom to get around the bed, although it did manage to fit some cobwebs into the corners of the room! The bathroom was small, but did have a shower, toilet and tiny sink in it. It felt like it could do with a good ‘deep-clean’ and had a dent in the rear shower panel. Upstairs in the living room there’s an L-shaped sofa (bed), which has definitely seen better days, and isn’t comfortable. There’s some drawers for storage and a table with a tea/coffee tray. Be aware that this won’t be replenished during your stay! Again the room just had a ‘grubby’ and worn feeling about it. Also be aware that the sink in the bathroom is too small to actually fit the bottle they give you for water under the tap and the kettle just about fits if you work out the angle. We ate in the pubs restaurant on our first evening, having booked a table for 7:00pm. When we got there it was very busy and we had to wait for a while for our table, which we understood as the place was packed so we thought we’d be in for a treat with the food. Unfortunately we were very disappointed, when it eventually came it was average at best. The chips with the meal were of poor quality and dripping in grease and we both felt quite ill after eating our meals. Breakfast is advertised as ‘continental’ and a cooked option. We came down at our agreed time of 9:15 and were welcomed and asked if we would like tea/coffee by a pleasant lady. The continental part of the breakfast consists of toast, cereals, a few pieces of sad looking fruit, yoghurt pots and fruit juice – that really isn’t a continental breakfast. We both ordered a cooked option, scrambled eggs on toast for me and a ‘Full Welsh’ for my wife. The scrambled eggs were very salty and the mushrooms were ‘watery’, the bacon and beans both looked and tasted as though they’d been under a heat lamp too long. Overall, a disappointing start to the day. For the first 3 mornings we were at least able to get something to eat at the agreed time of 9:15am and were served by the same lady. On the Wednesday when we came through for breakfast at 9:15am we were met by another woman who, after asking if we were staying at the hotel firstly told us, quite rudely that the kitchen closed at 9:00am and we couldn’t have breakfast. We explained that we were expected for breakfast at 9:15am but she just repeated that the kitchen was closed, but said ‘you can have some toast’, not even an offer of a hot drink. By Thursday morning we had decided that due to the all our experiences at the hotel we couldn’t take it anymore and checked out two days early, when we took the keys to the same lady as on the Wednesday. She wasn’t interested in why we were leaving early and just shrugged her shoulders. In conclusion, there’s nothing to recommend staying at The Grapes hotel, or eating there. The ‘cottages’ aren’t cottages, they’re tiny, cramped, badly serviced and overall feel ‘a bit grubby’. The food offering is poor and doesn’t live up to it’s advertising. And the customer service is very hit and miss. There’s a lot of good hotels in this beautiful area to choose from, but this isn’t one of them.

Stayed here for one night as we were running in an event the next day. Arrived later than we’d hoped and called en route to see if they could accommodate us for food. They were fully booked but managed to squeeze us in. Food was delicious, service was quick and efficient despite the fact that the place was packed! We had two mains and a couple of pints for a very reasonable price. We then retired to our room which was one of the two ‘cottages’ in the hotel. It was actually a room over two floors at the back of the pub. It was clean and surprisingly quiet. We had a good nights sleep in a very comfortable bed. Didn’t use the upstairs living area but it was pleasant and cosy. Shower was excellent. Breakfast was served with a lovely view and there was plenty of choice. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed an evening meal in the restaurant very pleased we had booked well in advance. The food was casual dining, good portion sizes and well presented. For motorcyclists, the parking at the back of the hotel is a bit soft (very small pebbles/shingle) it might be OK with a sidestand extender plate. Awful experience. We arrived around 2 pm, and we asked what the soup was. We were told it was Parsnip and immediately ordered. The member of staff went to the kitchen to ask something and then came out to say they are no longer serving food. We found this odd given that she had just confirmed the soup with the kitchen, and the cafe is open until 4 pm. Fair enough if we were trying to order at 3.45pm, but this was at 2pm. We ordered coffees and welsh cakes, which took 20 minutes to come (cafe was empty, save for ourselves). The rude member of staff then slammed them on the table, didn't even take the items off the tray, and walked off. Never have I had such an awful customer service experience. Complete letdown to what is a lovely area.

A most welcoming local pub with an excellent chef who happily adapted starters into a main for me - veggie! Although menu catered for everyone. Mine hosts were so cheerful & hardworking - many could take a leaf out of their books! The place was absolutely buzzing with people of all ages - locals & holidaymakers having the time of their lives singing along to the live musician of the evening who sang everything from Beatles/John Denver to modern day...talented chap! We will definitely be back - next time we may stay if not during the summer months, perhaps for an Autumn/Spring walking holiday!

Just passed by doing some walking and asked if we could leave our car at the parking. The kindness of the reception was overwhelming. Need to come back. In addition to that the walk that ended at the campsite was beautiful.
