Great to see the Grange cafe open again. Tasty home made food whilst sitting in a peaceful tranquil walled garden- very relaxing & scones warm, straight out of the oven

Situated at the back of the library in a pleasant garden setting. Although a poor vegan menu the staff went out of their way to find something for me to eat. A lovely pot of tea and dogs welcome.

The Grange is an historical house and garden, linked with Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll, and contains the local museum, which has an exhibition about Burne-Jones (see his stained glass in St Margaret's church up the road). There are also displays of local history (the author of "National Velvet" lived here, and the story of the "Daddy long-legs" elevated tram platform that travelled from Brighton pier through the sea to Rottingdean is truly amazing! Ps at low tide from the East col of the marina you can still see the trackway running across the rocks in front of the undercliff walk). Food is served in the restored Gertrude Jekyll gardens; what could be lovelier than cucumber sandwiches and tea in the garden on a sunny day?

A disabled and wheelchair accessible sanctuary of tranquility ( disabled access door on the side of the library). I took my mum on a Sunday afternoon- we sat outside on the terrace in the spring sunshine surrounded by beautiful flowers and had a cup of tea and slice of homemade banana cake (gluten free). There is a snack/lunch menu too ie salads/quiches/jacket potatoes and sandwiches on the menu. Very friendly ladies and boy serving. We left round the side of the building and via the front garden admiring the flowers . Very child friendly too and different secluded sections of the garden.

One of those places that could spoil if it gets too popular! The Grange is in a central location, opposite the Plough, pub and the duck-pond. A former vicarage for a parson who was, by all accounts quite a character; parson, school teacher, benefactor to the poor, smuggler and various other guises his home is now a library, museum, art gallery and a delightful little cafe and restaurant. Expect nothing grand or outlandish The Grange does baked potatoes, sandwiches, home made soup, home made cakes, that kind of thing produced from a small kitchen with just two staff but this is served to you in a beautiful walled garden that is just a perfect setting for a light lunch or afternoon tea. Portions are old-fashionedly modest so this is not a place for a blow-out! And your refined old English lunches and tea come under constant threat from a marauding seagull who will eat anything, even your butter pat, foil and all, given half a chance....to the absolute delight of a small boy when we were there! Come and enjoy the museum and art gallery and stop off in this gentle spot for a little nourishment!

The Grange is an Art Gallery , library, gardens and restaurant. It is truly delightful with excellent changing exhibitions as well as a wonderful permanent display on Rottingdean, in particular on Rudyard Kipling who lived and wrote in the village.

We were fortunate in arriving on a quiet but sunny day so we had our pick of the tables. It's a great little oasis of calm amongst flowers doing their best in this exceptional hot summer weather.Drinks and food are delivered to your table and were great quality and excellent value too.

You’re spoilt for choice in Rottingdean when looking for somewhere to eat or drink, but there is really only one tea garden - and that’s at The Grange.

This tea garden, which is open from around Easter to Autumn, is a delightful spot. It is easy to visit Rottingdean and miss it - you need to walk through The Grange, which houses the library and small art gallery and out the back of it is a lovely garden in two parts. The work of Lutyens can be seen on the steps on the lower part and then through an arch to the lawned area. There is a small room for poor weather but this cafe is best visited to sit outdoors.

Our only regret with the Grange is that it's only open for 6 months a year - we're impatiently waiting for the spring opening right now! The women who run it are lovely, always welcoming. The cakes are to die for. Particular favourites: Victoria sandwich with fresh strawberries; apple cake; lemon drizzle; bakewell tart. The gardens are lovely to sit in and this complements a visit to the art gallery and library.

Brought an overseas colleague there. Cosy little place. Nice tea and scones. Had nice open fire on which was nice as it was a cold day.

Lovely staff although management didnt answer my email about cancellation which is disappointing. Cake was yummy, Tea was ok, don't get the choice of how much milk and such tiny cups. Cats being cats, do their own thing. Worth a visit if you're a cat lover.

We only popped in here for a quick cup of tea and added a couple of sausage rolls to go with them this morning. A friendly cafe, clean and very good pricing.

I went to the cafe today for lunch with my masters class which was a group size of 6. We ordered at the same time and was told likely be a 15-20 minuet wait and we went to see down. We understand it can take time for these things. However, 30 minuets go by and only 2 people have gotten their full English breakfasts and hot drinks. 15 mins go by and one more meal comes out. I went down to ask how much longer on the other meals and was told “soon” and that they didn’t actually have all the chips that ordered and had 2 refund 2 of 3 of the chips. This is after 45 minuets I remind you. Eventually one of us got a salad and cold oven cooked chips, leaving me and one other with no food. The final full English was told to us to be another 20 minuet wait so we had to refund it and get a sausage roll in replaced and was asked to pay the remainder which is fine but not something I would make someone do at the cafe I work at, especially waiting 45 mins and told it would be another 20mins. To top it all off, when I went down to ask if my salad could be put in a takeaway box as I have to go back to lecture, I was then told they lost the ticket and I would have to wait for another one. This is when I heard another customer say they felt bad as they ordered the same order after and got theirs first… I had to get a refund and this was after a whole hour of waiting. 45 mins to tell us they didn’t have what they ordered. 40 mins to tell us they had to start a new order for full English 1 hour to tell me they lost the ticket. I was given the reason to all of this was only one chef in the kitchen, on a Saturday any Laines worker will tell you that it is the busiest day of the week. I was given excuses not apologies. I understand bad things happen but this was appalling. Don’t go on weekends if you want service. That was my mistake.
