Avoid like a Covid Out Break, First impressions of the out side was what the Hell have we booked , its tired and outdated exterior greated us, As we walked in to the main entrance we were greeted with a closed reception desk with a closed blind and a smell I have never encountered before, and I've done a few jobs in my life. We made the decision to ask at the pub next door about our booking and to be fair the bar made was nice I can't falt her, she gave us the room key and told us where to go but they weren't serving food this night, thank God the local Indian restaurant got our custom. On inspection of the building it was as tired on the inside as it was on the outside. The floor was moving in places under the carpet. Fire door not closing on the landing and the fire escape door on our floor would need to be kicked open in the event of something happening. The room was clean but am glad am close to my partner as the toilet door in our room slid close and we had to put the TV up loud when It was in use. We never went for breakfast, so we could make a quick escape in the Morning. It's well over priced for what you get.

Staff friendly and the place was busy in the Cheers part of the hotel. We ordered soup and panini deal. Still trying to figure out what was in the sweet chilli beef panini!? Absolutely shocking looking monstrosity. Only wish I’d taken a picture now. Kids sausage hadn’t seen a bit of meat!! Although, the soup was good and the prawn cocktail basic but decent. Could do lots better as some of the dishes being brought out looked good. We bought wrong!! Still poor though.

Was here for an early supper in the Gordon Arms Hotel Lounge after being in the area for a day out. We arrived before our table booking so went next door to the bar and outside beer garden to wait - staff in bar were very helpful and advised us when table was ready in main hotel lounge. Food was excellent with a hearty portion in all 3 of my courses and at a great price. The Chef's cheesecake of the day was excellent and I would highly recommend. The Bar/Lounge area with some light background music was a nice atmosphere to enjoy our post meal coffees and chat. Staff were very helpful and polite.

It's really great to have a local that serves decent food but can be a little hit or miss. Make the best crispy fries if u ask for them but no guarantees. One way system due to covid restrictions (which is brilliant) but no slips for track and trace....had to ask. Also a large group of smokers gathered around the entrance is really off putting, especially as there's no other way in. Would have been very good if not for that!

Stopped past this morning for breakfast. Ordered the full English was clearly just heated up (badly) leftovers. Surprised they even had the audacity to send it out. Black pudding was like a hockey puck. Asked about money off due to the food being bad and found a whopping 80p deducted from the bill... but an extra £1 added for an egg, which was part of the FULL English breakfast. When enquired I got told some rubbish about it’s out through the till that way!? Would of preferred if the waitress was honest and just agreed the breakfast was rubbish instead of lying about it and then overcharging me for it.

We went for a Sunday meal at the Gordon arms and unfortunately it has fallen below its usual reasonable previous standards. Firstly the service was not great for a quiet Sunday lunchtime and the food was taking some time to arrive at the table. The main meals we ordered were ok, but the same dessert we both got had to be abandoned as something didn't seem right with it. This experience has now put us off returning again.

Been here a number of times now. The missus ordered the roast and for myself the mixed grill. The roast was lacking the boiled tatties (as said in the menu) and for the mixed grill, no fried egg (as said in the menu) I thought something was missing from the grill but only thought about it until later. Disappointed after having been going there for a number of years but need to sort out basic errors like that. For the money it puts you off dining out in a place that has historically been very good.

Veg well over cooked like mush. My husband had the roast of the day and he enjoyed this. Staff very friendly but very disorganized and they did not appear to know what they were doing. The 'restaurant' are a few tables squeezed around a bar in what feels like a corridor. We were advised to wait in the Cafe Bar until a table became free. That was quite an experience - the 'cafe bar' is a spit-and-sawdust affair with drunks wandering around the place, blaring music, pool table, and weird tattoed people snogging. We should have left at that point. To be taken to your table in the restaurant you have to go back out into the street and re-enter the main hotel door!?! Yet the waiter is able to go to and from both without the trip out into the rain - clearly here's something in the interconnecting corridor they don't want people to see.The meal felt like the chef had got himself a cookbook for Christmas and was having a go at things best left to professionals. The scallops bounced like wonderballs. The duck had so much fat on it, it must have been an easy kill as it was clearly incapable of flight. I suppose this sort of place survives because there's nowhere decent to eat in Huntly in the evenings.

As a former resident of huntly I know how hit and miss this place can be but the last visit took the biscuit. 6 of us entered a half empty restraunt just to be told they don't have room for us. I pointed to a table set for five and asked if they could set an extra place to be told that "wasn't possible" and maybe we should go next door to their cafe bar. Being fairly hungry we obliged as it was the only option we had. Let's just say we took one look and didn't eat and then wiped our feet on the way out and carried on the pub crawl..

We visited the Gordon Arms for dinner on a Friday night. We hadn't made a reservation and were lucky to get a table, so I suggest making a reservation if you can! The menu offers a decent selection of dishes, and there are a few daily specials as well, including a curry of the day. Portions are a good size, and the food is well-cooked. I had the mixed grill, which was good value and enjoyable, apart from the sausages which were probably the cheapest available: it let the rest of the dish down, and I would have preferred one decent sausage to two of those (although I only ate one!). The restaurant is also a lounge bar. Although there are real ales available in the bar next door, there are just standard tap lagers and beers available in the lounge. Service is friendly and reasonably efficient. I'm not sure about a rating for the Gordon Arms, but I have plumped for Very Good because I think it is a bit above Average.

Got a table and placed our order for mains only , then we waited and waited and waited . Now if they were busy you would understand but there were only about 10 people in the place . When our meal did come the first thing the waitress did was to apologise for our wait , so even she was aware of the delay . Food was okay but nothing special . This hotel sort of needs an upgrade all over .

I have eaten here many times now usually quite a nice place to eat. However last Saturday I took my lovely girlfriend clair out for her tea. We were greeted nicely and ordered a bottle of wine then I ordered patte for my starter and we both ordered steak. By this time the couple next to us had left, then another couple sat down and ordered. After half an hour the couple who had just sat down received their meals. Now I'm not sure but I'm quite sure patte is in the fridge, salad can be thrown together quickly and the rests just toast so I thought I should have received this before the couple next to us received a main meal. Once the patte did arive it was nice and I enjoyed it. Not quite worth the wait tho. We ordered another bottle of wine while we waited for our steak. The steaks came with chips on the side. The chips were how would you say afa peely wally and when broken in half were still raw tatties inside. The steak cooked how I like it medium raw looked and tasted good but had obviously been sitting for a while as it was stone cold as was grilled tomato and my peas. I complained when asked if everything was okay to which the waitress said she would take my meal off the bill. Not the best experience here and if it hadn't been for the wine I'd have had a lot more to complain about. So in short food was terrible wine was good as was the service shame the chef let them down here

The main problem was the food - there was plenty of if and it would fill you up after a long day sight seeing, but it was uniformly bland and tasteless. I didn't stay in the hotel but I had a meal on the 13th of June and it was one of the worst meals I've had in any hotel! Two members of my family had a madras which they they didn't enjoy.. The chicken was dry and though. The rice was hard..and the nan was soggy! I had chicken fillets and if it weren't for a chilli dip the chicken was flavourless and dry. And as for pudding one of us had apple crumble. It was about 90% crumble before you got to the thin layer of apple at the bottom. We also got custard with it and it was extremely lumpy. We then went onto watch the chef in the open door to the kitchen. Which truly discusted us!! The hygiene was appalling. He cut butter on a raw meat chopping board!!! He then cut a bun on the same chopping board!! And then eventually used it to cut raw meat! There was a women with long hair also in the kitchen with no hair net! And then she kept fingering the food and then wasn't watching her hands. I have been here a good 4-5 times and never had any problem. A family member and I both have catering experience so know what to expect from a kitchen and this was most definetly not it! I won't come here anytime soon. And I will be contacting the food standards agency as soon as possible!

We had not been to the Gordon Arms for a year or so and dropped in for a quick lunch and were impressed by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the service. The lunchtime menu is essentially good quality traditional Scottish food. I had the roast beef which was plentiful, tender and tasty. The chips were also plentiful and of good quality. I would have liked a roast potato but apparently these are not part of the dish. Vegetables also very nicely prepared and plentiful. Vegetables are served separately which I think is far better than them being simply plonked on the plate as so many pubs do at lunch-time. Brenda's chicken was also tasty and nicely prepared. Starters and puddings were also very palatable and the price for three courses, soft drinks and coffee was very reasonable indeed. My only very minor reservation is that we sat by the only window in the front of the bar/restaurant and it has the sort of glass which is usually seen in a toilet. It would have been nice to be able to see out into the very attractive Square. The décor and seating inside the hotel are attractive and comfortable and I was puzzled as to why we weren't allowed to see out!Overall an excellent lunchtime dining experience which has made us think about trying the Gordon Arms for an evening meal in the near future. Recommended.

We have eaten here many times . The food is usually very good and served in clean ,comfortable surroundings by polite and considerate staff. Portions are adequate and fair value for money, although prices are slowly creeping up.The menu does not change much though - although they do a "specials" board weekly ,these aren't very "special "as they are usually just things from the main menu with a different sauce.(E.G. Roast beef is on the menu and you can ask for a sauce accompaniment, and often they have it on the "specials" with one of the sauces!) The menu is re-printed twice a year I think, as the summer one is more suited to tourists/visitors looking for local produce (salmon, venison etc) and the winter more for locals and there have been some good dishes removed which was a disappointment. (Especially when they stopped doing steak and chicken sizzlers which were fabulous!)

The pub itself is tired...in desperate need of updating!Food was disappointing!! I have been several time just because there isn't much choice in Huntly but now I avoid the place! I had a toasty for lunch and it was burnt, the crisps on the side were stale!! How hard is it to not burn toast?!I had a curry for tea another time and it tasted like a micro meal :(The service how ever was good, friendly ect nothing special though.

My family and I have had bar suppers here several times. I agree that the hotel itself is somewhat 'tired' but the staff are always very pleasant and welcoming.Good, plain, simple food, which is well-priced and well-cooked. If you're looking for cordon-bleu, don't come here. If you want a hearty meal one evening, this is all that your require.

Had lunch with a friend at this hotel. Food wasn't anything special, I had baked potato with chilli and side salad. Potato was fine, but the chilli was very watery. I had requested a little grated cheese over the chilli and that was certainly what I got! Then when I paid the bill, I was shocked to find I had been charged an extra £1.50 for the little bit of cheese. Will definitely not eat here again. Staff were friendly and the kitchen which I could see from our table appeared very clean.

An Ok meal in an OK pub. Probably better than the other hotel in the square but that's about it.apparently there is a minimum character number for reviews - no more to say about the pubs so will just waffle on!!

Went there even after reading nor so good reviews - big mistake. At first made to feel like a nuisance as we wanted the table setting , then meal arrived , I had pie thar was far too salty , potatoes that quite simply where not cooked where really hard , and my wife's roast beef was swimming in far too much gravy. Do not go there !!!

Nice pub at the Gordon Arms. The staff is friendly and helpful. Specials are posted each night along with a menu with a good selection. Although reservations are not required, during busy times you may have difficulty getting a table without one.

Hotel smells of frying food, bedrooms and bathrooms are poor and whilst clean they are tired and smell damp. Restaurant and Bar lacks ambience and is basic.Staff are pleasant and try hard but are let down by the facilities and tired and poor decor all round.

We went twice, first time was ok, good lasagna, fish and chips and poached haddock - nice service. So we went back - and what a disaster! The head chef was in charge, but lasagna layered pasta with nothing in between, meatballs fifty percent bread and over salted, fish in batter reheated and greasy, 19th century chips. But the pate was ok. We complained and got a refund, but really, this is too bad!!!

I feel compelled to write a review for the Gordon Arms, sheerly because we will never forget it as the worst meal we have ever eaten out. We reserved weeks in advance for a large party of about 20. We were told we would need to give the hotel a list of what everyone wanted beforehand as it was such a large group. We naively assumed it was to check that they had the ingredients in. In actual fact, it was to pre-prepare the most mediocre food we have ever been served and then pop it in the microwave to warm in up once we got there. On the plus side, the food was so awful, it was almost comical and we had a riotous evening of laughter and photos lest we ever forget! I wouldn't give it a single star but as TripAdvisor won't let you do that, I've had to mark it as 1 star! How this place stays open is a mystery to us all.

When it takes less time for your food to arrive than it does to order it something is far wrong! Self service is great when it works. It does not work here 20 minutes standing in a queue to place my own order, the woman at the till was so slow and seemed to be completely unaware of the situation. Food was decent enough and arrived after 10 mins but the service, was terrible with dirty dishes everywhere, no condiments on the table and the place was very cold. Same story in the shop. Huge queue for the post office but no one serving the other till. Typical Inverurie food experience "that'll do" attitude that 99% of people are so used to they are now blind to it.

Had a nice overnight stay with my partner. I upgraded our room to a superior one but it looked out onto a wall which was a bit of a shame. I think the pool and spa facilities could be upgraded, I'd also seen the photo of the outdoor jacuzzi and was really excited to use it but was told you had to pay extra for it which was a bit gutted about. Really liked the bar area and staff were very good. Quite isolated if you don't have a car but hotel staff helped us get taxis. Would return if spa area was improved. But the grounds are beautiful and decor is lovely.
