The Goose in Waltham Forest

Such a nice pub! Stephen and the whole team were so welcoming. I've been in customer services for 30+ years, and pride myself on giving the very best customer service. Well, I got exactly that here! The chicken burger and fries were delicious! I saw the head chef and shook his hand. My neighbour invited me for a pint at this pub that he's known for many years, and I was absolutely delighted It's open until midnight, and after 11 p.m., I noticed a lot of people coming in. I was amazed and delighted. As I say, 30+ years in customer services, and after a long shift, I get thirsty. Apparently I'm not alone. I was so pleased to see the place so full after 11, and the atmosphere was electric, with an excellent soundtrack of music. I drank more than I would have normally, precisely because of the atmosphere. It's such a nice pub! Directly opposite Walthamstow Central station. To Stephen and the whole team, I thank you, and I will see you again! Especially after an end of shift. I'll stay on the tube, two more stops passed mine, just to enjoy a very welcome pint, and cracking atmosphere. GO!

A male friend of mine and I were let in - our female friend was struggling to get her ID out of her wallet, so I went back to the door to check on her in case she didn’t have her ID and we had to leave. The “head bouncer” kicked us out because, as he said “I don’t like people standing behind me”. He was misogynistic when we expressed concern of her safety and being able to keep the group together - with his fragile ego, he told us to leave. It’s a shame, the place looked nice and we would have loved to have had a pint there. If that’s the welcome you get on a more than half empty bar, I’d be worried as a manager and the decisions you make as an employer.

Had a lovely afternoon in this down to earth pub. The range of cask beers is decent, the keg craft ales extensive and there's a well priced wine list. The manager (Agna?) and staff (Patryk) could not have been more helpful and the food was good and excellent value, with a range of veggie and vegan options. The screens are not to my taste, but it is easy to find a comfortable seat away from them. All round a good, no-frills, clean boozer.

Excellent prices, good variety of drinks. Plenty of tables inside and a big smoking area. Staff very approachable, seem like just genuinely nice people. I like their pies and fish and chips, as good as it gets with pub grub.

We were staying at the local Travelodge and were looking for somewhere to eat when we came across The Goose. Despite it being a Wednesday evening it was busy, which I always tend to take as a good sign for a venue. In fact we seemed to get the last table available. Once sat down we realised that we had to download the app which was a bit of a pain but once done was straight forward. I ordered the mixed grill and my wife the all day breakfast along with some drinks. The drinks arrived very quickly and to be honest the food wasn’t far behind. The food was really good and quite a large plateful. I’d certainly say we got our money’s worth. Staff were very pleasant and the place had a real good feel about it. It’s certainly somewhere I’d return to, if we’re back in the area again.

Popped in for a light lunch. Ordered a chicken and bacon baguette with chips and pot of tea. The baguette was aneimic looking, chewy and tasteless. A few bits of chicken and bacon, lettuce and tomatoes. No grated cheese as stated on menu. Chips luke warm. Food was poor quality and looked nothing like the picture on the menu. Very disappointed.

We visited this pub a couple of times on our London visit. Right next to tube and bus stations. The pub was old school traditional, with great friendly staff. The food was excellent and it had a wide choice of beers/wines/lagers. Thoroughly enjoyed our visits.

By far the best pub in walthamstow A well run pub clean and tidy with very friendly staff. A good menu and a really good place to watch live sport with plenty of screens. I fully recommend you give this pub a try

Had a long day travelling up from Cardiff , checked into the Travelodge and was looking for somewhere just to get a bite to eat.. We entered as a group of 4 straight from our room to the pub/restaurant. We were rudely turned away from the bar as we entered to order a drink as apparently people matching our description were causing trouble on the Highstreet . We explained we had just left the hotel and walked 20 yards across the street to get something to eat as we got a big day ahead of us tomorrow . A very rude barman told us to leave as he couldn’t serve us . Our company has a 12 month contract with travelodge across the road, with 40 employees who will definitely not be eating or handing our money over to them . Rude rude staff !! Please stay away from this business !!!!

What a shame we really enjoyed our drinks then decided to have some food we ordered the Fish&chips platter and Steak&ale pie,my Fish&chips came without the sausage no curry sauce or bread,I complained by time I came I had nothing left to put my curry sauce on the portion of fish&chips was the smallest I have ever seen the fish was about a quarter the size that I expected a disgrace and the chips was enough for a 4 year old.Pathetic do not order the FISH&CHIPS.

Great place to meet up and ended up staying for longer then we thought, staff was cool aswell and door staff. Was busy but easy to get drink and dance with the DJ great night over all 👌 thank you

A week ago three of us where In Walthamstow. Visited the Goose early evening which was a pleasant and comfortable pub, drink prices reasonable and friendly staff, BUT, terrible food. One of our party was unwell that evening and the steak pie I had was soggy and tasted like it had been microwaved? served with chips and a tiny spoonful of peas and frankly only just about edible. We had a similar experience a few weeks earlier in the Golden Lion in Bexleyheath with the same pub chain. Staff are clearly not being managed or properly trained? Would pop in for again for a drink but not the food.

We went to watch football. Amazing experience, great service, food and drinks. Close to the underground station and the mall.

What a great night we had, really good atmosphere music was great accompanied by great service and friendly staff. If you’re looking for a great night out and stay local this is the place to be. Reasonable prices too!

I always go there to watch football. They have great deals on food and drinks. The food is typical pub food but it's very tasty and hot.

The managers and baristas are friends and welcoming, after faking orders our drinks came quickly, had a great Saturday night there.

Absent service, since our table was never cleaned up and I returned an empty glass at the desk. The food is 100% not prepared by them, since everything is evidently refrigerated and last but not least, the waitress were not that kind and gentle. In my humble opinion, one of, if not the, worst pub I've ever been it. Not a good way to spend my last night in London

Worst pub food ever! I spoke with the manager after our half-eaten meals and he graciously refunded. The bangers were ok but the mash which came with mine and my husband's meal is produced elsewhere and just reconstituted in the kitchen ie. Not nice soft fluffy mash as we all want but a coagulated hard lump on plate. My husband's pie was only half cooked. All the pastry on the outer edges was raw

Went for Sunday Roast, ordered hand carved pork, with golden roast pots , mash, rich red wine gravy. The chef clearly been to Iceland. All veg was undercooked as it was warm' the frozen roast pots were barely cooked and it was pork chops slapped on the plate with ordinary gravy no doubt Bisto. Really poorly cooked and not what they advertised.

Robert the deputy manager and Ade security guard were fantastic tonight at managing a difficult situation with a couple of customers . Their calm and professional approach and manner were very impressive. The atmosphere was not affected and everything was quickly resolved. I would come back to have a drink here again.

Came to the Goose to enjoy a pint on my day off, the lady at the entrance was very welcoming and made me feel very at ease, I was watching some football and decided to have a little snack before dinner, all good so far, when the food comes to the table I did asked for cutlery and the lady that was running the food just laughs at me! Uauuuuu disrespectful big time! She should never work with people ever again! I will come back because it’s a nice place but that lady really should have some manners in herself ! Worst pub I’ve ever been to. Stuck to the rules, came in with family and watched football. Spent lots of money including food and drinks for 6. Were told after the football that we had to leave because we were not going to be served any more alcohol. Nobody around us complained about noise, they hadn’t pre-warned us that we were causing too much noise (just a normal amount of noise for a Saturday football evening.). Were told from the tables around us that we were fine and hadn’t caused any trouble. Bar staff were lovely but afraid to contradict manager. Would never visit again.

Not easy to review because this place is so much better than Wetherspoons and not a lot more expensive. The manager was great and really helpful. We took our staff here for a leaving lunch. However looking at it objectively and even though inexpensive I cannot give 4 blobs/stars as food not up to that standard. However my staff enjoyed their meals.

We visited the pub quite a few times over the last few weeks following the death of our brother who lived locally.No problems at all in the past, great service and good ale.This morning, our party decided to have breakfast at the goose before we went our seperate ways. My brother ordered a breakfast followed my myself ordering two and my cousin (2) and my son. the first breakfast arrived quickly and my brother had finished his when our drinkls arrived. Our meals came after around 20 minutes and the last one only arrived when i was finishing mine. The poor guy serving was on his own and was having to do everything himself apart from cook the meals. There were around 12 people in there at 10.00 and we didnt leave until around 11.10. The food was good, but the drinks, apart from my tea were warm. No point complaining as the barman couldnt have coped and wouldhave had a meltdown if we had said something. Im hoping to be in the pub again in a few weeks and would like to see more staff on duty on opening time as one simplay cannot cope with doing orders and serving drinks.

Visited after another venue in the area security was friendly the atmosphere felt good music good the locals friendly didnt get to try the food as the kitchen had closed bar staff friendly had a great night

Das Essen war gut, außer der Grill-Teller. Jeden Tag ein wechselndes Sparangebot, das durchaus zu empfehlen ist. Die schlechten Kritiken kann ich nicht nachvollziehen, da es wirklich weitaus schlimmere Pubs gibt. In einigen die wir besucht haben, waren sogar die Gläser dreckig, was gar nicht geht. Hier waren nur die Tische nass und auf Toilette roch es etwas streng. Ansonsten nettes Personal, leckeres Bier und das Essen war auch gut. Die Geschmäcker sind halt unterschiedlich. Went there for drinks, wanted also to eat something but staff advised that is to late and kitchen is already off. It was after 9 pm, so in my opinion it wasn't so late, also it was friday and really many people inside, but maybe that stick carefully to the rules when the kitchen working. We were waiting very long in a queue to order a drinks, finally somebody from staff served us. I'm not sure if I would visit this place again.

This pub was not exceptional but not bad. We had a good lunch while touring around. It's worth a try.

I was not impressed with this noisy bar. We experienced the tightest security I have ever had the misfortune to encounter to enter the bar. My son's bag had to be stored behind the bar as it contained some alcohol that we had bough earlier at very good craft breweries. It took for ever for him to retrieve the bag when we were leaving. The beer was so bad that one of our group abandoned his pint and bought another. Unpleasant and not to be recommended.

I live close to The Goose, it's by far the best pub to watch sport in. The fairly recent refurbishment has made it even better; there's not many spots you can be where you won't get a view of a screen. The bog standard beers they do (E.g Stella) are very reasonably priced, the craft beers on the back shelf taps are vastly over-priced for the surroundings you're enjoying them in. I normally drink tasty, hoppy IPA's like Punk IPA (which they do have on tap) but at the Goose I drink Stella.Staff are ok, I've never eaten there so I can't pass judgement on the food.Also has a small pub garden.

Went in last night for the England v Montenegro game with friends. Great beer, nice food and lovely staff! Will definitely be visiting again!

Popped in here after visiting friends in the area and what a complete transformation from what it was before. Gone are the rude staff, dirty surroundings, and awful food & service. Would recommend highly to anyone in the area.

I lived in Walthamstow for many years and so have used this place several times. Having just been back for my first visit in 5 years I won't be using this venue again. I went in on a Saturday lunchtime and ordered food. I was told it would be about a 30 minute wait but I had loads of time. 45 minutes later they finally produced an average plate of sausage and mash. This place has had the same problem for at least 10 years now and they should either staff the place properly or close down and make way for someone else. If you just want a quick beer in a dull drinking barn then this is the place for you. Otherwise, avoid it.

Good beer, lively pub with food available and ample seating to watch football games. Handy location not far from Stamford Bridge.

Cheap and smelly , only works to have fun if you are over 40 and an alcoholic. Although the setting is typical and could have potential, the people who join this pub have settled in. Sorry, but if you are looking for a fun time over a glass of spirits with friends in this area, look further.

We visited again today in search of a glass of wine and a light lunch. The barmaid hardly seemed to understand her own menus or pub geography and I had to explain which food and wine we wanted twice, with careful finger pointing. There were very few people there, so it certainly wasn't that she was under pressure.I just left my salmon kebab uneaten after two bites - it was cooked to dry extinction and the (undressed) salad was tired. The box of condiments included salt but no pepper and all the bottles were plastered with handwritten labels about expiry dates. Chicken and bacon was OK, no more. The landlady came and sat on the next table with her post lunch cup of coffee but neither she nor the barmaid ever came and asked why my food was untouched, even when they cleared away my husband's dish. I felt they knew things are not good and didn't want to hear it confirmed.They were friendly but it was a desperate tired sort of smiling, not the confidence or competence that comes with knowing your pub is a good one. Depressing. I predict closure or a change of ownership in the near future.

If you've arrived at Walthamstow Central in desperate need of a quick drink then this is a very convenient pub. It's spacious and well lit. But despite a recent facelift it still has a slightly "seedy" air. And if you want some food they may or may not be able to supply what's actually on their menu. It you can spare an extra 10 minutes travel time there are much nicer pubs in Walthamstow to spend a lunchtime or an evening.
